* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** It's pretty much written into the film whether Adam would have been corrupted with or without his foray into the stripping world. Brooke seems to think so anyway, but he probably wouldn't have had as much money if he wasn't stripping.
** Brooke and her attitude towards the stripping. On the one hand, it's hard not to see her as a prude who can be a little judgemental, especially since she looks down on Mike once she finds out he's a stripper. On the other, it seems as if she's more afraid of the potential bad influences it could have on her little brother, as the last straw for her is finding [[spoiler:Adam passed out in a puddle of his own vomit after taking some questionable pills]].
* AwardSnub: There was buzz about [[Creator/MatthewMcConaughey Matthew [=McConaughey=]]] getting a possible Best Supporting Actor nomination but it didn't amount to anything. ''Many'' were furious when he wasn't nominated.
* BestKnownForTheFanservice:
** Considering it's known as "that movie with a lot of male strippers" a la ''Film/TheFullMonty'', some viewers are surprised when they learn that there's actually more to the movie than just stripping. The strip club scenes make up about seventeen minutes of the film's two hour running time. Of course, the movie ''was'' heavily marketed around the {{Fanservice}} elements.
** A straighter example comes from Creator/OliviaMunn having a topless scene that lasts only about fifteen seconds.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Despite Creator/ChanningTatum and Creator/AlexPettyfer being the leads, most of the positive reception went to Matthew [=McConaughey=] for his spirited performance of Dallas.
* FetishRetardant: As there's a ''lot'' of stripping in this movie, at some points it can become uncomfortable to watch - especially as it's gradually shown how empty Mike's life actually is. The way the routines are so over-the-top that they're downright comedic also tends to make things feel a lot less sexy.
* FridgeBrilliance:
** If you watch one of the first dance montages, you can visibly see that Adam is out of sync with the rest of the dancers, doesn't put as much passion into the moves and frequently comes in too early or too late compared to the others. A good way of averting InformedAbility and showing Adam's inexperience.
** If you do the math and the film takes place the same year it was released (2012), Mike probably got into stripping around the time of or right before the 2008 recession. Which of course massively explains his obsession with gathering enough money before he can start his business.
* HarsherInHindsight: Adam and Mike's friendship deteriorating becomes harsher to watch with the knowledge that Alex Pettyfer and Channing Tatum didn't get along during filming, to the point that Pettyfer was dropped from the sequel.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Richie dances in a mini mart for a bored/depressed cashier in an attempt to make her smile. It works.
* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct:
** Alex Pettyfer had mainly become known either for MrFanservice roles in {{Chick Flick}}s or else numerous Young Adult adaptations that flopped. He impressed many with his portrayal of a CorruptTheCutie character who falls into hard-drinking and [[spoiler:eventually drug addiction]]. He's also appeared to have improved his FakeAmerican accent.
** None other than Creator/AnneHathaway claims she had this reaction to Matthew [=McConaughey=], and agreed enthusiastically with Christopher Nolan when he suggested casting him as the lead in ''{{Film/Interstellar}}''.
** For those who ignore the {{Fanservice}} aspect of his character, Channing Tatum shows that there's more to him than ''just'' that.
* HoYay: The men are all really close with each other, they frequently hug each other (often shirtless) and kiss each other affectionately on the head.
* HypeBacklash: Understandable, given the heaps of praise the movie received. The opposite appears to have inspired the positive reaction in the first place - many expecting an ExcusePlot and ninety minutes of beefcake and getting a well-acted SliceOfLife about strippers in addition to the {{Fanservice}}.
* LGBTFanbase: A movie about male strippers is bound to pick up a couple of gay male fans. It also helps that Creator/MattBomer, one of the actors in the film, is openly gay.
* MemeticMutation: The words 'Magic Mike' are now used whenever there's a male stripper around.
* PeripheryDemographic: The sequel, ''Magic Mike XXL'', has various dudes that enjoy it. In fact, WebVideo/ChrisStuckmann pointed out that he knew more dudes who liked that film about male strippers than females. Creator/ChanningTatum has actually said he pitched it as a BuddyPicture road movie in order to get more males to see it.
* QuestionableCasting: Many were left wondering why Wrestling/KevinNash of all people was in the movie. Especially given his knee problems meant that he couldn't do much of the dancing, and needed a special knee brace.[[note]]Channing Tatum and Stephen Soderbergh realized that the knee brace was perfect for Nash's character, since he was supposed to be someone who was stuck in stripping years past when he should have quit[[/note]]
** Creator/GabrielIglesias had a reaction like this when Creator/ChanningTatum asked him to play a role in a movie about male strippers. Turns out he wanted Iglesias to play a [=DJ=] in a part that was almost completely cut.
* TheWoobie: Although he's a cheerful guy, it's gradually revealed that Mike is quite a Woobie. He only got into stripping as a way to fund other projects he wants to do, but he struggles to get loans because his work history only deals in cash and thus, he's not seen as serious. At thirty years old, he wants to escape this world but doesn't seem to know how to. His little rant to Brooke shows just how vulnerable he really is.
