* AccidentalInnuendo: The lighthouse scene on the roof. [[spoiler:When inquired on what she thinks of the lighthouse, Mila says she thought that it was bigger when seen from ground level, but now having seen it from up close, she now thinks that it is much smaller. This comment then causes Kyle to pop a wide smirk on his face, prompting Mila to ask if she said "something wrong". Kyle then dodges a potentially awkward conversation by saying that it's a funny coincidence, because he also thought the same thing as she did when he first saw it.]]
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: "Belief", which is composed by Tony in-game, is very touching and uplifting. Tony's theme "Shadowy Men" is also very catchy and hard to get out of your head.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Dylan Fitchar. Is he a helpful NiceGuy, or obnoxiously intrusive? Are his constant appearences welcome, or annoying? [[spoiler:Is his reveal as TheMole well-executed, or does it fail due to it being a CaptainObviousReveal?]]
* EvenBetterSequel: The plot is overall much more polished and better thought out than ''Hotel Dusk'''s. The puzzles are also harder in general, with less filler or brain-dead ones.
* FridgeHorror:
** In the several times Dylan approaches Kyle in the corridors and rooms (especially the ones where neither of them should be at all), the former is usually seen in a pose where he appears to be timidly hiding his right hand on one of his pockets, as if he was awkwardly trying to strike a conversation. [[spoiler:Turns out later that this pose is actually him reaching for a ''gun'', meaning that in all those times, he was ready to possibly murder Kyle in case he found anything that could compromise his cover.]]
** [[spoiler:Dylan in general, as he had access to every room in the building.]]
* HoYay: Kyle and Tony. [[spoiler: You can even make Kyle tell Tony it feels like a betrayal when the latter goes out with Betty on Christmas Eve.]]
* NightmareFuel:
** The 4th floor hallway certainly qualifies, with its music and the feeling that someone is following you, especially when [[spoiler:the lights go out in the later chapters]]. Made even worse by the fact that you can get stuck in there, leading to a GameOver.
** [[spoiler:Dylan's]] DeathGlare [[spoiler:when Kyle is examining Marie's ring with the former's magnifying glass. If you hadn't gotten the feeling that something is horribly wrong with him before, you WILL by this point.]]
** [[spoiler:Will White]] has an utterly unnerving talksprite that you only see ONCE in the whole game where he [[spoiler:gives a much too wide smile and admits it's much funner to watch Kyle do all the dirty work of solving the murder for him.]]
* StoicWoobie: Kyle and Marie.
-->'''Marie''': "I'm stronger than I look."
* ThatOnePuzzle: The puzzles are generally harder than in Hotel Dusk. Usually the solutions to the harder ones are hinted in the classified folders in the novels (which shouldn't be opened in order to get the epilogue). However the solutions to some of them are not revealed, such as:
** The roof puzzle. [[spoiler: Touching or blowing into the DS will only get Marie to tell Kyle off. In order to grab her the lid of the DS will have to be closed.]] The hard part is figuring out that there's actually a wrong timing for doing it. Doing it at the wrong time will result in a game over without any hint of what the right time is.
** The music box. [[spoiler: There's a key in the music box. To get it the player need to 1) Hold the shoulder button which changes based on how the DS is held and are told only by the letter in the music box, 2) Close the lid of the DS while the hollow part of the cylinder is in the front, and 3) tap the key with the stylus after opening the DS WHILE holding the shoulder button.]] Possibly hard because of the UnexpectedlyRealisticGameplay.
* TearJerker:
** Kyle's "confrontation" with Sidney has only one question. [[spoiler:"Do you still love your wife?"]]
** [[spoiler: The scene where Kyle returned to room 406 after his encounter with Mrs. Patrice on the roof can make one weepy-eyed. The whole pondering of what was his father's final view out of the window and what feelings his father was probably was experiencing was incredibly sad.]]
** [[spoiler: There's also Kyle's conversation with Frank about a chat the latter had with "Gregory"; the part Frank found the most memorable was that Gregory's son wanted to grow up to be a baseball player.]]
* TheWoobie: Lots of people but special mention goes to [[spoiler: Margaret]].
