* AllAnimationIsDisney: The fact that the light novel was illustrated by that Yukiko Horiguchi makes the anime series easily mistaken as a production by Creator/KyotoAnimation, when it was animated by Creator/SilverLink
* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The series has a cliche-sounding FreakyFridayFlip premise that turned a lot of people off, especially if they read the official synopsis, which makes it sound like nothing but lewd situational comedy and toilet humor. But the body-swapping gimmick only lasts for 5 episodes, and things turn from silly to serious long before that.
* OvershadowedByControversy: Almost any discussion concerning Kokoro Connect will be about the infamous Creator/MitsuhiroIchiki prank incident. To put it simple, after viewers learned that Ichiki had been lied to and pranked into auditioning for a part that never existed, only to be made the PR manager for the series with requirements that could result in punishments like being electrocuted or humiliated, any good will fans had towards the show was ruined, and the series became known less for the quality of the show, and more for the treatment of Ichiki.
* PanderingToTheBase: Relating to the incident above, Ichiki finally voiced a character in the series' last episodes, but some of the audience see this as the production company's shallow attempt in mending their bad blood with the voice actor and half of the BrokenBase.
* Wangst: Inaba's confession about her trust issues in episode 4 comes off like something an emo teenager would write in their diary. Considering how little the rest of the cast seemed to care about her confession, the show portrays it as worrying over something pointless.
