* DiagnosedByTheAudience: The most the movie says about Jody is that she's "troubled" but her wild mood swings and erratic, often violent behavior suggest something far more severe.
* FridgeLogic:
** So Stratton - an industrialist and potential political candidate - doesn't have a single assistant or confidante he can call to get rid of Jody discreetly, before he finds out who she really was? That doesn't sound like a very good business or political leader.
** Jody's plan to {{blackmail}} Stratton is kind of stupid if one thinks about it. She intends to accuse him of raping her... yeah, but who would the authorities be more likely to believe: a respected local politician with lots of character witnesses... or a wanted violent fugitive with a record of mental instability and a history of nearly compulsive lying? One could argue that the accusation alone could damage his reputation, but with no evidence or other victims to back her up, chances are the case wouldn't have even made it to court in the first place. If anything, "Local Politician Apprehends Dangerous Fugitive" would make a great headline to propel Stratton into the Senate. This is especially true given the movie was made in TheSixties, long before the era of [=#MeToo=] when such reports began to be taken more seriously. Ultimately, it doesn't matter because Stratton is just far too much of a wimp to take the risk.
* JerkassWoobie: For all the trouble she causes, it's also easy to feel sorry for Jody. Her mood swings may be played for drama, but it's clear she's a troubled girl in great need of help.
* TearJerker: Stratton learning Jody has died after covering for him and ensuring his career and family won't be scandalized.
