* AntiClimaxBoss:
** Shine. [[spoiler:For all the mystery around his true form, him being a small electronic sphere who gets defeated in 5 seconds by Spade Ace is very disappointing. He later gets tossed away by Iron Claw and vanishes from the plot despite clearly still being intact and functioning.]]
** Iron Claw as well. spoiler:He ends up going down like any other MonsterOfTheWeek. His reappearance in JAKQ Vs Gorenger does little to amend this, as he never gets a proper fight with either Sentai team in that movie and is instead beaten when Big One blows up his ship.
* AssPull: As a side effect of the Retool that happened halfway through, CRIME is revealed to be a front for aliens despite no foreshadowing beforehand.
* CompleteMonster:
** Boss Iron Claw is the leader of Criminal Organization CRIME and the codifier for awful bosses in the franchise, with the goal of reducing humanity to lawless savages. Under his rule, CRIME regularly commits mass murder, grand theft, and more solely for the sake of spreading his ideology. Anyone who fails him, regardless of rank, is sentenced to death, with Iron Claw personally executing many of the CRIME Bosses under him. When his master, an alien conqueror named Shine, demotes him in favor of Great King Icarus, Iron Claw jumps at the first opportunity to execute Icarus and take back his place, and when J.A.K.Q. exposes Shine as a powerless fraud, he immediately abandons him. Later resurfacing after his supposed demise, he enacts Operation UFO: nuking all the great powers of Earth and fleeing to space for a few years before subjugating the remnants of humanity.
** "Demon? Angel?! The Marvelous Flute-Playing Man": Hell's Angel is a member of CRIME whose silly demeanor and pacifism belie his depraved nature. A modern-day Pied Piper, Hell's Angel uses his flute to whisk away children and use them as slave labor for a cannon. When Goro Sakurai/Spade Ace finds them, Hell's Angel uses them as human shields until Sakurai seemingly saves the kids, only to find out Hell's Angel put explosive badges on them and is willing to use them as suicide bombers.
** "The Despot's Ambition!! Break it! The Death Camp": Führer Crocodile is an ally of CRIME out to rebuild the Nazis by kidnapping many of ISSIS's allies and families for forced labor camps where abuses and beatings are common. Having any escapees murdered, Führer Crocodile intends to create a poison gas that will be tested on the detainees before spreading to all Japan, with his dream being to restart UsefulNotes/TheHolocaust and build a brand new Reich.
* ContestedSequel: To Goranger. It's safe to say JAKQ was not as well received as its predecessor.
* FashionVictimVillain: Iron Claw. With his broccoli-shaped FunnyAfro, funny looking beard and sparkly silver poncho, it's safe to say you wouldn't get the impression of a ruthless mob boss just by looking at him.
* HarsherInHindsight: JAKQ is funded by an organization called ISSIS. One less "S" and it becomes REALLY uncomfortable.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** An extra Ranger that's colored white later joins the team as their new leader in the second season of the franchise. Are we talking about Sokichi Banba/Big One or Tommy Oliver/White Ranger?.
** As noted on the Trivia page, Spade Ace and Dia Jack were originally planned as the Blue and Red Rangers respectively, which would've also resulted in their roles being swapped but had their colors and roles switched in the final product. Take a wild guess what colors the Spade-themed Blade and Diamond-themed Garren from the aforementioned Series/KamenRiderBlade are.
* MemeticBadass: Big One is renowned for his charisma and numerous talents, both in and out of the show.
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: BIIIIIGGGG ONE!
* ReplacementScrappy: It might be hard to believe, but Big One. While the show was airing, he was actually considered something of a Scrappy, due to the fact that he made the series considerably LighterAndSofter, and because he replaced Commander Kujirai. Some even point to him as a principal cause of JAKQ being the only Franchise/SuperSentai to be canceled. Of course, the reason why he was introduced in the first place was because kids were avoiding JAKQ because it was getting too much DarkerAndEdgier for them. Nowadays, though.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Big One was originally disliked for making JAKQ LighterAndSofter, but nowadays is the most remembered part of it.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Eagle-eyed viewers may be able to spot one Creator/HiroyukiSanada as Katsuya in episode 9.
* ToughActToFollow: Series/HimitsuSentaiGoranger was hugely popular when it aired and to this day remains the longest-running Sentai series. JAKQ attempted to avert this by going with a more original and DarkerAndEdgier plot, but this only alienated children who were fans of Gorenger, leading to a Retool halfway through to make JAKQ more like its predecessor. This proved for naught and JAKQ, in contrast to Gorenger, would end up being the shortest official Sentai series.
* VindicatedByHistory: Back in the day, JAKQ started as too much DarkerAndEdgier than Goranger for the kiddies, and then when its tone and direction swerved, it lost what those who did enjoy it liked about it, ultimately pleasing no one and having its episode count slashed; its predecessor went 84 episodes while it went 35. Today? Pre-changes, it's the dark sentai that adult fans love, and post-changes, it's the Sentai that has you-know-who.
