* AssPull: In the original version, is suddenly revealed to be the leader of the Neo-Malthusians towards the end of the game with almost no foreshadowing aside from some digital wanted posters right at the start of Act 1, and whose backstory is only contained on said posters (assuming you can read the low-quality textures). Prophecy rectifies this by giving the character much more screen time in the first two acts and establishing them as the BigBad from the start.
* ClicheStorm: Lots of this game is taken wholesale from other games, Franchise/TombRaider and VideoGame/BioShock being the most obvious ones, and played straight.
* DancingBear: This game is mostly just remembered for its incredible and almost-realistic water physics.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: "I've got two balls, Kate, and neither of them are crystal."
* GeniusBonus: The terrorists call themselves the Malthusians, after English economist Thomas Robert Malthus, who is known for his theories about the dangers of populations growth."The power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man." -- Thomas Malthus, 'An essay on the principle of population'
--> "We also wanted to make our terrorists real; to stand for something, not just to be game cannon fodder. It's about treating gamers as intelligent, well-informed people." -- Pete Jones
* NarmCharm: Scoot's voice actor was replaced for the remake to be more generically appealing, but some players miss the quirkiness of the original performance.
* NightmareFuel: The premise. You are trapped belowdecks on a sinking ship full of trigger-happy gun-wielding terrorists while all kinds of electricity and oil (sometimes combined) are being spat out by the damaged vessel. Got that? Good. Now get moving, you've got a ship to save!
* ThatOneAttack: Do NOT stand out in the open when the grenades are flying.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: There are a lot of ideas in this backstory and setting which could have made either a great sci-fi RPG (if expanded) or a great action movie (if simplified and focused). Instead it's a confusing muddle of concepts that don't go anywhere and distract from what good points the game has.
