* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: The animation is top notch. Those familiar with Creator/{{Nelvana}}'s work on ''WesternAnimation/TheZhuZhus'' series will be unsurprised by this series' expert use of Flash animation, and the monster designs allow them to go much more wild.
* BrokenBase:
** Generally speaking, among fans of the movies, this show has had pretty split reception. Some think the show is a worthy addition to the franchise, capturing the zany spirit of the films and adding plenty of neat new elements to the franchise. Others believe the show to be terrible, claiming it just doesn't work in 2D and finding it lacks the charm and cleverness of the movies.
** Within the series itself, the short musical numbers mid-episode have divided the fanbase with those that don't mind them and those that consider them too corny and cringeworthy.
* FanonDiscontinuity: Some people, even those who like the series, consider the series non-canon and instead treat it as a standalone entry.
* OlderThanTheyThink: This is far from Creator/{{Nelvana}}'s first adaptation of an American horror-comedy film! Those versed in the studio's history will be quite familiar with their ''WesternAnimation/{{Beetlejuice}}'' cartoon series.
* OnlyTheCreatorDoesItRight: Some fans of the movies are rather critical of the fact that Creator/GenndyTartakovsky, one of the most prominent crewmembers of the films along with being a major factor in the first film [[SavedFromDevelopmentHell getting made]] in the first place, has pretty much no involvement in regards to the TV series.
* TheScrappy: Absolutely no one likes Mavis' cousin Klaus, considering what an egotistical and ill-mannered braggart he is and how poorly he treats Mavis. Even InUniverse, he's the BlackSheep of the Dracula family.
* TakeThatScrappy:
** In "Drop the Needle", Klaus ends up stuck in his bat form and is used by Aunt Lydia to replace the broken needle on her record player, which is a most satisfactory comeuppance for all the crap he puts Mavis through.
** In "Gorytelling", Mavis [[BreakingTheFourthWall apologizes to the audience]] immediately after encouraging Klaus to sing.
