* AmericansHateTingle: The novels and anime have a fair enough fanbase in Japan, but the anime is consistently rated low across English anime websites, there are no official translations for the novels, and reviews have been generally unfavourable. It's possible that this is due to the style of storytelling, which is very popular among mystery fans in Japan but not well tolerated in the west. Add to that a number of social issues that are dealt with in the show which do not resonate with a western audience and some viewers' misconception that Haruta and Chika would be a couple in the end, and you've got the reason [=HaruChika=] has almost no fans in the west.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Niji wo Ametara (trans.: If We Could Weave Rainbows), the anime's OP theme, as well as its ED theme Kuuso Triangle.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Haruta, due to his arrogant, know-it-all attitude and posturing for praise from Kusakabe. Viewers either hate him for it, finding him extremely annoying, or love him, finding his personality a refreshing change of pace from regular anime protagonists.
* FanNickname: The west liked to dub Haruta as "Sherlock Homo" whenever an investigation took place.
* FanPreferredCouple: Despite their mutual attraction towards Kusakabe-sensei, fans would rather see a romance blossom between Haruta and Chika thanks to their very good chemistry and interesting interactions with each other.
