* {{Adorkable}}:
** Undyne's blushy little face when she interacts with Alphys. She also has some of the most adorkable moments with Alphys.
** Betty and Kumu, of all characters, tend to have very sweet and endearing moments when in the company of each other and nobody else, with Kumu transforming into a tiny version of Betty just to keep the real one entertained. Betty also confides in Kumu that she finds Asriel cute as a flower. It helps that, despite the two technically being separate halves of one entity, Betty genuinely considers Kumu her only friend.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** It can be extremely difficult to determine just where Bête Noire stands as a character.
*** Is she just a sadistic and psychopathic mass murderer who made up an excuse for her FantasticRacism and love of slaughter and torture, [[ForTheEvulz meaning that she is nothing more than evil just for the sake of it?]] Or does she genuinely believe that she's a NecessaryEvil, saving the future of the world by deleting one race to protect the other, and that only those who side with the "enemy" race must die?
*** Does she want to put herself on top as ruler of planet Earth using her "excuse" to manipulate others, or is she genuinely scared of another human-monster war, one which could devastate the entire world, therefore leaving her with no other choice?
*** Furthermore, how much free will and individuality does Betty have, if any? Is she fully and willingly on board with her creator's master plan to commit genocide on all monsters, with no brain-hijacking or corruption done to her, or is she a TragicVillain and a ''victim'' of being BrainwashedAndCrazy ''for her entire life'' - i.e. forcibly implanted with a copy of Agate's own mindset, memories and personality? If this wasn't done to her, would she have been a good person and opposed Agate's orders? [[AndIMustScream Does this mean that she died as she lived - despised by all and forever unable to be free or become her own person?]]
*** Does Betty only have a copy of Agate's personality to call her own, or does she have a SplitPersonality as implied during her conversations with Kumu in supplementary material? Is that personality her true self, buried underneath all of Agate's evil?
** Agate:
*** After losing her first battle to Copper, was she intending to murder him and Amber from then on, even before reversing her soul trait? Alternatively, was she only trying to find a power that would let her beat him and allow her decree for monster kind (to stay underground for humanity's safety) to be carried out? If the latter is true, then it means that she ''didn't'' intend to become the horrible psychopath she was in her final few days, and [[AndIMustScream accidentally corrupted herself]] [[FridgeHorror irreversibly]] [[TragicVillain through reversing her trait and removing all positive emotions from herself.]]
*** Is she communicating with Betty from the afterlife as a spirit? Is she possessing Betty, who owns her soul? Is she actually Betty's dominant personality and the one in control for the most part? Evidence could be given towards her being able to take over in moments such as when Betty finds Agate's bones and begins freaking out before saying that she "can't die in this body" and that she'll save "(their) race".
* AngstAversion: Season 2 has a [[CharactersDroppingLikeFlies very long string of tragic (yet pointless) character deaths]], a ridiculously powerful OC villain [[CurbStompBattle who keeps thrashing the heroes]] through a combination of PlotArmor and VillainExitStageLeft, and a group of [[{{Wangst}} angsty]], [[DysfunctionJunction dysfunctional heroes]] who [[WeAreStrugglingTogether waste so much time arguing and bickering with each other]] that they can barely slow said villain down. While the heroes eventually do get it together and "Animsoity" finally begins giving unambiguous victories to the heroes, it can still be rough to sit through the first 7 episodes.
* AngstWhatAngst: While "Hope" does bring a happy end to the main cast's story, it glosses over the damage done from the whole situation in favor of concluding the main cast's character arcs and, outside of Grace mentioning it to Rave and Gaster and Papyrus talking about Sans, the numerous deaths go unacknowledged by the cast, which some felt made the ending feel a little ''too'' cheery all things considering.
* AntiClimaxBoss: Some felt this way about [[spoiler:HATE]] for the Season 2 finale, partly due to it only becoming a tangible threat to the heroes for that episode. [[spoiler:Chara is almost completely in control of the fight during the first 2 phases of HATE's physical form, blocking and countering its attacks while also baiting it into attacking to damage it more. Though things start to get dicey with phase 3, even with Asriel's help, the fight is basically over once Asriel becomes the God of Hyperdeath, and HATE is killed in 9 minutes, 2/3rds of the way through the finale, having accomplished nothing.]]
* AssPull: There are quite a few in Season 2, mostly due to some things being explained only through supplementary material:
** Jessica Grey owning a soul-powered energy gun that allows her to [[spoiler:nullify Sans's magic.]]
** Shortly after [[spoiler:Betty reveals her true colors]], Gaster reveals that he and Alphys have been working on a secret weapon called the Nullifier, which can destroy [[ExactWords any human or monster]], something that gets no foreshadowing until then and goes against Gaster seemingly only working on the CORE expansion in "My Sunshine".
** Gaster's power boosts [[spoiler:if either of his sons die]] are only explained explicitly outside of the animation and only subtly implied in it, which can lead to some confusion. [[spoiler:"Animosity" has Gaster utilize Polychromatism ''with'' Papyrus still alive by draining his magic, something that wasn't even stated ''outside'' of the animation.]]
** Betty's special attack [[spoiler:which is stealing the magic of her foes.]]
** Betty and Akumu [[spoiler:being artificial beings that are neither human nor monster, allowing them to shrug off the Nullifier's effects [[NoSell without a scratch]]]].
** Monsters suddenly being more physical because they ate human food which means [[spoiler:Undyne the Undying has no detrimental effects.]]
** Frisk being able to [[spoiler:increase their Level of Violence through cruel words and acts instead of killing, allowing them to get to LV 3 without killing anyone]].
** Some humans having [[spoiler:souls with more than 1 trait, something impossible in ''Undertale''.]]
** The reveal that a human sage can use [[BlackMagic forbidden magic]] to invert their soul trait, which is why [[spoiler:Betty exists in the first place]].
** Frisk having the ability to [[spoiler:erase/edit memories.]]
** Chara using his determination to [[spoiler:go back in time and create a new timeline, preventing an otherwise unwinnable situation]].
** Asriel [[spoiler:pulling a "but it refused" after getting fatally stabbed by HATE]] in "Hope". While WordOfGod did mention on Twitter that [[spoiler:his soul is the monster equivalent of a Determination Soul]], there's no real indication that this is the case in the animation or that he should be able to do this because of it, nevermind the fact that this act also lets him [[spoiler:come back [[CameBackStrong in his Hyperdeath form]]]].
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Betty: Some love her for her [[CreepyAwesome creepy evil powers]], [[TragicVillain tragic]] [[ObliviouslyEvil backstory]] and find her unique compared to the other popular villain OCs in the ''Undertale'' fandom (which are usually overpowered alternate versions of Chara and Sans), while others believe she should have been made a far clearer example of a TragicVillain and see her portrayal in-series as a one-dimensional HateSink FlatCharacter who is [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic too evil to feel sorry for]], coming off as [[ForTheEvulz evil for the sake of evil]], or being an overpowered recolor of Chara. Others still see her as a HateSink and [[LoveToHate love her for it]].
* BrokenBase:
** The CerebusSyndrome of Season 2. Some like it and the concept of the consequences of the original game still being addressed, others feel it's too much of a HappyEndingOverride and prefer the uplifting way the first season ended on.
** Jessica's HeelFaceTurn: Some were happy she could see the error of her ways and work toward her redemption, while others thought it was too rushed and forced that Jessica suddenly lost her hatred for monsters and forgave Asgore for killing her daughter.
** The ArtEvolution from the more cartoony style of Season 1 - Early Season 2 to the more Animesque style of "My Promise" onward. Those for it felt that the change in style was more fitting of the darker nature of the season and was an effect of Camilla having improved and refined her style as time went on. Others liked the old art style better, feeling the animesque style was either too overdone, too big a shift, or doesn't always fit the characters.
** Sans' treatment in Season 2, something inevitable given his popularity:
*** His death in "Dust", the second episode of the season. Many lamented that he was taken out so early in the season and so easily after having such a prominent role in the first season. Others thought his death was necessary as he was a StoryBreakerPower in himself and his death properly established the stakes. Others felt that he'd already had enough of a role in Season 1 and that his death would allow the rest of the cast to have their time in the spotlight.
*** [[spoiler:His resurrection in "Love: Part 2". The fans who had been pining for his return were naturally overjoyed that the ending opened up a chance for him to return and get in on the action. Those who were fine with his death were less than pleased that he was brought back [[LyingCreator after Camila previously said she wouldn't]] and felt that his resurrection greatly lowered the stakes.]]
*** [[spoiler:The WhamShot in "My Promise" showing that Sans was only LivingOnBorrowedTime, with the episode establishing he will die for real soon. Those happy with this felt that Sans was successfully restrained from being the StoryBreakerPower he usually is and reestablished the stakes by showing that his "resurrection" was merely a fluke. Others were upset at the prospect of Sans dying ''again'' after all the effort to get him back and were also disappointed that his return was merely [[PanderingToTheBase fanservice]] for the people who kept bugging Cami to revive him.]]
** Many of the deeper aspects of the Glitchtale lore only being told through WordOfGod statements and [[AllThereInTheManual supplementary material]], especially with Season 2 onward. Many see this as justified since it is nearly impossible to convey everything about the series within the animation, and that this way Camila can move the story along without having to waste time animating it. Others feel that not having this information portrayed in the animation makes things confusing in terms of character motivations (Betty) and lore (Gaster's powers, Determination, Asriel's rainbow soul, Prequel aspects in Season 2, etc.), especially when people are expected to know some of these things in order to understand parts of late-Season 2. There are others who point out that these supplementary comics and statements are not easy to find, as they are spread across Camila's twitter, tumblr, and amino pages. [[https://glitchtale.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page A new Glitchtale wiki]] was created in 2021 with the help of Camila herself, with making this information easier to find specifically in mind, lessening this somewhat.
* CatharsisFactor:
** Undyne the Undying thrashing Betty in "Love: Part 1", managing to inflict a CurbStompBattle on her even after she uses HATE to give herself a power boost.
** [[spoiler:Gaster ''annihilating'' Betty in "Animosity" after Sans death, subjecting her to an even more severe CurbStompBattle than the above before giving her the most horrifying, brutal, and well-deserved death in the whole series. That he is the one to kill her makes it even more so as he is arguably Betty's biggest victim.]]
* CreepyAwesome: Betty and Akumu are able to take on Gaster together with Betty forming Kumu into a ''pink scythe'', and the more souls absorbed by Akumu, the more Betty's hair turns pink with the power of Fear, giving her [[{{Expy}} massive similarities]] to the villain Goku Black from ''Anime/{{Dragon Ball Super}}'' or Marluxia from ''Franchise/KingdomHearts''. Ultimately, enough souls allows them to take over an enemy's magic attacks using "Rhabdophobia". Using Hate allows Betty to exponentially increase her power, and she can even use it to resurrect souls under her control. Finally, [[spoiler:her merged state with Kumu (her original form) allows her to use Kumu's shapeshifter abilities, turning her arms into weapons and setting the stage for her eventual OneWingedAngel transformation.]]
* CrossoverShipping: Betty often ends up finding love with X-Tale Chara from ''WebAnimation/{{Underverse}}''.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Ronan for being a NiceGuy, his interesting powers, and [[spoiler:for being a PapaWolf.]]
** Robin for her bravery.
** Cam for being one of the nicest kids in the series. [[spoiler:Him TakingTheBullet for his sister was a major TearJerker.]]
** Amber for being TheCutie and [[spoiler:having a heartbreakingly short life. Many fans tend to see her as a desperate spirit who only wants to be free to move on to the afterlife by having her body (Betty) be destroyed.]]
* EsotericHappyEnding: The improved True Pacifist Ending that Season 1 ends on. Sure, Asriel and Gaster are alive in this timeline, but the Amalgamates were killed before they could reunite with their families, who most likely never found out what happened to them.
* EvilIsCool: Bête Noire, the BadassAdorable [[spoiler:(not counting when she opens [[BodyHorror her horrifying mouth]] in her true form)]] capable of creating magical spears, blades, scythes, and giant arrows, as well as specializing in the power of illusion and turning enemies' attacks against them. She is easily one of the most well-known and popular characters in all of the ''Undertale'' fandom, and often gets drawn in fan art with the canon cast.
* FandomSpecificPlot: There are a surprising amount of fanfiction stories in the Glitchtale community exploring the idea of what would have happened in the Failed Timeline, leading to many people writing about what could have happened in that Timeline and what caused everything to fail.
* FriendlyFandoms: With ''WebAnimation/{{Underverse}}'' due to the similar tones.
* GeniusBonus: Betty's ultimate ability, "Rhabdophobia". A secondary definition for it is a fear of ''magic'', which explains why Gaster's magic shuts down after it activates.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Frisk smashing the RESET button at the end of Season 1, seemingly leaving the Underground behind for good and reaffirming his friendship and promise with Sans, becomes this when "Love: Part 1" has him reveal that he not only lied about the promise, but was looking for a way to RESET the entire time, putting Sans anger from Frisk suggesting resetting in "Dust" in a whole new light.
** You would expect something like Betty to come up as a good reason to RESET, or at the very least for Sans to have some knowledge about someone so dangerous. Disregarding that Betty is an OriginalCharacter, how was no one prepared for them? [[spoiler:It's because Frisk never let any of the timelines get far enough to encounter her; they were too enamored with the Underground and its wonders to let time go on. If they had let even one Pacifist timeline play out past the ending, they would have seen Betty coming. Instead, Frisk unwittingly trapped themselves in the present, glitched timeline that Betty is currently rampaging in, with all of the deaths being irreversible.]]
** Papyrus managing to free Sans from Betty and HATE's control, effectively bringing him back to life, becomes this when future episodes establish that it wasn't a permanent solution and that Sans will soon die anyway, [[spoiler:which finally comes to fruition in "Animosity".]]
** A meta-example consists of many fans positing (and in some cases demonstrating with fanvids) that if [[spoiler:Chara]] were ever to re-enter the scene, Betty would quickly cease to be a problem even before it was revealed she [[ElementalRockPaperScissors is massively weak to Determination]]. [[spoiler:This exact scenario is set up to happen as of ''My Promise'', but it came at a high price: because two Red Soul owners can't occupy the same timeline and with Frisk being a ticking glitch-bomb, they are forced to RetGone themselves and make Chara take their place in the timeline just so they have the chance to stop Betty and save Asriel. Worse yet, the gamble fails utterly in the first glitched timeline because even if Chara ''can'' obliterate Betty, they were defeated by Corrupted Asriel before they got the chance.]]
** This crosses over with HeartwarmingInHindsight. Camila answered an ask on her tumblr asking about the possibility of Sans coming back without a soul. She reasoned that "some people just die, and that's it. Chara never got a second chance to do things right on their life and died for one simple mistake. Frisk had hundreds of thousands of chances to do things right but the world kept giving him "second" chances." In "My Promise", [[spoiler: Frisk making the wrong choices over and over when the world keeps giving him "second" chances catches up with him and he ends up needing to sacrifice himself to save the world, while Chara finally gets a second chance to do things right on their life, taking Frisk's place in the timeline]].
* HilariousInHindsight: The many fan vids, fanarts, and theories detailing [[spoiler:the potential fight between Chara and Betty]] became this when [[spoiler:Gaster ended up killing Betty before Chara could properly fight her.]] Camila lampshaded this not long after the release of "Animosity".
* IKnewIt:
** It had previously been noted that, in every episode past Megalomaniac, [[spoiler:Frisk's name was on the save file, and that naming yourself Frisk in the game proper initiates Hard Mode, explaining why things have gotten so much worse for everyone since then. Sure enough, in "Love (Part 1)", it's revealed that the current timeline is a glitched Hard Mode that Frisk started in an attempt to get a different good ending than the usual True Pacifist one by exploiting the already-glitched timeline.]]
** There was also the theory going around that Betty was acting as the checksum (which basically checks if everything is normal and fixes it if it's not) of the Undertale universe, due to the game never being meant to go beyond the monsters leaving the Underground, as well as the fact that the game could come up with whatever backstory it needed to justify Betty's existence. Basically, Betty was the game's attempt to fix itself without the characters asking questions. [[http://camilaart.tumblr.com/post/159801988280/glitchtale-geonocide-continues-theory They were super close]], the only anomalies being that Betty is trying to fix conflicting-yet-coexisting values rather than try and stop the game from continuing too far past the True Pacifist ending, and Betty not being a pre-existing checksum but instead being a unique spawn due to the game being in Hard Mode (which is known for abnormal spawns compared to the main game).
** [[spoiler:Jessica Grey dying]] was called as far back as "Dust" due to [[spoiler:the magic nullifier cracking her soul and her condition getting worse in subsequent episodes]], leaving it a matter of ''when'' it would happen. "Game Over: Part 2" has it finally come to fruition.
* ItWasHisSled:
** [[spoiler:Betty was EvilAllAlong and]] is the BigBad of Season 2. TheReveal happened in "Dust", the second episode of the arc, and has become hard to hide now due to being one of the most popular [=OCs=] in the fandom.
** [[spoiler:Chara replacing Frisk]] in "My Promise" is also hard to hide as it shifts the role of TheHero.
* LoveToHate:
** [[spoiler:Bête Noire. Fans of the series understandably condemn her for her actions against monsterkind and while she claims to be a WellIntentionedExtremist trying to save humanity, she seems to have no qualms about killing humans to make herself stronger in order to do so... but she’s just so badass that people love her for it, and a number of fans have begun to feel [[CryForTheDevil sorry for her]] after learning the horrific method behind her creation and [[BrainwashedAndCrazy corruption]] at the hands of her creator (who is a genuine HateSink).]]
** [[spoiler:Even Agate herself gets this treatment, [[CainAndAbel due to the insane levels]] [[WouldHurtAChild that she will stoop to]] in order to “save” the world from another devastating war and destroy the next Determination user.]]
** [[spoiler:HATE, for being nothing less than a pure evil OmnicidalManiac and the most powerful and malevolent force in the entire series.]]
* MemeticMutation:
** What happened to the guy in that car?[[labelnote:Spoilers]]"My Sunshine" has Frisk save Betty by putting up a shield to stop a car from hitting them, leading to many jokes about what happened to the guy driving the car. The next episode, "Dust", reveals that [[spoiler:there was never a guy or a car. It was all an illusion.]][[/labelnote]]
** [=RIP=] Butterflies[[labelnote: Note]] Camila has a certain "habit" of killing off butterflies, starting in "Yet Darker" [[/labelnote]]
** [=RIP=] Gaster's mug.[[labelnote:Spoilers]]When Gaster realized [[spoiler: Sans has died]], he drops his "Bone Appetit" mug and it shatters. Some comments humorously mourn the mug instead of [[spoiler: Sans]]. [[spoiler: Amusingly enough, the mug is 'revived' (fixed by Papyrus) the same episode Sans is.]][[/labelnote]]
** Camila will kill everyone you love.[[labelnote:Note]]Starting with Season 2's "Dust", Camila became well known for killing off characters, most of them fan-favorites, in increasingly gut-wrenching ways. Because of this, many fans tell newcomers not to get too attached to any character, because indeed, Camila will kill everyone you love.[[/labelnote]]
** Chara Punches Everyone[[labelnote:Explanation / spoilers]]After the release of "My Promise", many fans started to associate Chara with punching people, "''For'' '''''JUSTICE'''''."[[/labelnote]]
** [[spoiler:[[RetGone Frisk]] [[TheFourthWallWontProtectYou who?]]]][[labelnote:Note]]Camilla's comment on "My Promise". After the comment was posted, it became common for people to ask who Frisk was whenever his name was brought up.[[/labelnote]]
** Contemplating Gaster.[[labelnote:Explanation]]Camila uploaded an [[https://www.nicepng.com/ourpic/u2t4w7r5e6y3i1e6_here-is-a-gaster-png-file-because-everyone/ extremely exploitable]] picture of Gaster. It's used in and out of context to hilarious effect. [[http://camilaart.tumblr.com/post/171752514685/artalertdoodles-contemplating-gaster-im-sad-that Some examples.]][[/labelnote]]
** See! Papyrus doesn't need to be edgy to be badass![[labelnote:Explanation]]After a lot of epic scenes involving Papyrus from Season 2, many people have taken to mocking Alternate Universes where Papyrus becomes a lot more edgy in order to be more useful or intimidating, Disbelief and Underfell being the most commonly made fun of. [[/labelnote]]
** Glitchtale: Infinity War[[labelnote:Spoilers]]Because [[Film/AvengersInfinityWar Infinity War]] had killed off half of the heroes featured in Marvel films, many have taken this chance to make drastic comparisons to the film and to Glitchtale. Let's not forget the numerous jokes and comparisons between [[spoiler:Timeline 1 Chara, and Frisk to Peter Parker's death.]][[/labelnote]]
** Grace is an [insert insulting term here].[[labelnote:Explanation]]After Rave's tragic backstory was revealed, a lot of Glitchtale fans took offense to how he was treated as a child, and as such memes spiraled out of control over who could insult Rave's mother, Grace, the most.[[/labelnote]]
** [[ViewersAreGoldfish Glitchtale Fans can't read]].[[labelnote:Spoilers]]Betty's death came as a surprise to everyone, and she even states in the Animation that she was dead, but due to HATE possessing her body and the very large shock factor from it, a lot of Glitchtale fans thought Betty was still alive until Camila had to confirm it herself multiple times, leading to this meme.[[/labelnote]]
** Glitchtale tier list[[labelnote:Explanation]]Following the release of "Animosity", tier lists on fans' favorite characters started exploding in popularity, with some lists being serious while others had joke characters at the top or Grace at the bottom in her own special tier.[[/labelnote]]
** Papyrus the [[spoiler:battery]][[labelnote:Spoilers]]Gaster draining Papyrus' magic while he was still alive led to many jokes that he was using Papyrus as a battery or only saw him as one. Camila herself got in on the joke too, saying that Papyrus had the most stamina out of the trio.[[/labelnote]]
** [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Neon Gaster Evangelion: End of Betty]][[labelnote:Explanation]] Gaster's utterly ''brutal'' maiming of Betty is creepily reminiscent of the Mass Production Evas maiming Asuka in End of Evangelion, between Gaster piercing through Betty similarly to how the Mp-Eva's stabbed Unit-02 and how we're treated to a [[SarcasmMode gorgeous]] image of Betty's corpse, which looks eerily similar to Asuka's. The main difference is that the sides are wrong.[[/labelnote]]
** "Who's there? Betty Was. Who's this? Betty Crust."[[labelnote:Explanation]] Multiple mishearings based off of the OminousLatinChanting found in the beginning of "Ascended", Gaster's fight theme vs. Betty in Animosity, have become increasingly popular amongst the Glitchtale community.[[/labelnote]]
** Boss Music Intensifies / Why Do I Hear Boss Music???[[labelnote:Spoilers]] After Asriel pulls a "But It Refused" on Hate in the Final Battle, the TriumphantReprise of "SAVE the World" from Undertale kicks in. The effect was not lost on viewers.[[/labelnote]]
* MoralEventHorizon:
** [[spoiler:Betty]] crosses it by orchestrating the entirety of "Dust" followed by [[spoiler:killing Sans.]]
** [[spoiler:Agate crossed it by killing Amber not only so she could break Copper's determination and make it easy to kill him, but also to revive Amber's body (without her soul) using her own empty soul, creating Betty and forcibly corrupting her into evil when she wakes up after the Barrier comes down.]]
* {{Narm}}:
** Some of the more dramatic moments can become unintentionally snicker-worthy thanks to the occasional typos and errors in the dialogue, especially the scene where Asriel [[spoiler:attacks Toriel while brainwashed by Betty and, while calling her out for abandoning the kingdom after he died, delivers the line "how hypocrite[sic] can you get?"]]
** The slow-mo shots that happen during fight scenes can come off as this as they bring the pacing down. "Hope" saw the most frequent use of them, which many thought made the final battle more underwhelming than it should've been.
* RootingForTheEmpire: Some fans openly root for Betty due to her being [[EvilIsCool a complete magical powerhouse with some amazing abilities]], not to mention the fact that fans often go through AngstAversion and are incredibly tired of [[WeAreStrugglingTogether the heroes ceaselessly bickering and ripping each other to shreds]], leading to the audience just hoping that Betty will end it all, even if it's just to shut them up.
* SelfFanservice: Betty [[SheIsAllGrownUp will often receive an]] AgeLift [[Really700YearsOld in terms of physical form]]. The same applies to her creator Agate, who does not require an AgeLift, as well as the original owner of her body, Amber. There is also numerous examples of fanart of Betty’s Deltarune counterpart, the Chaos Queen, who was featured in one of Camila’s speedpaints and is most definitely is this trope.
* ShockingMoments:
** The FinalBattle of Season 1: Asriel, the Absolute God of Hyperdeath, vs a HATE-fueled Chara. The two spend the fight throwing WaveMotionGun level attacks at each another.
** "[[WhamEpisode Dust]]". Papyrus is framed for an attack on humans, Jessica is revealed to have a device that can nullify magic and uses it on Sans, Sans and Frisk's friendship goes downhill when Frisk suggests attempting to Reset the timeline, [[spoiler:Betty is revealed to have been EvilAllAlong, [[HeroicSacrifice Sans dies]] [[TakingTheBullet protecting Asriel]], and the episode ends with Betty and Akumu doing ''[[NothingIsScarier something]]'' to Jessica.]]
*** Several other moments, thanks to the AnimationBump, show how ''very'' strong Sans is. Him stopping the girders from dropping on civilians ''leaves an impact crater in the concrete''. Him simply ''turning around quickly'' while he's in a TranquilFury creates small cracks in the floor. You can almost feel it when he pulls Frisk towards him so fast that it shakes the foundations of his house, and that's when he's '''''regaining''''' his strength.
** The battle between [[spoiler:Gaster and Betty]] in "Do or Die."
** The battle between [[spoiler:Undyne the Undying and Betty at the start of "LOVE: Part 1", which sees the borderline invincible Betty Noire get effortlessly stomped into the ground, even after receiving a power boost.]]
** In "Love: Part 1", [[spoiler: If Frisk [[TookALevelInJerkass taking a level in jerkass]] towards Asriel at the end doesn't qualify, them gaining a Level of Violence from it certainly does.]]
** In "Love: Part 2", [[spoiler: Frisk going from Lv.3 to Lv.19 upon seeing Asriel's soul get stolen. It's not just the increase but Lv.19 is as high as one could go and still conceivably show mercy.]] To counter Frisk, Betty and Akumu then [[spoiler:fill Sans' nearly-drained Soul with Hate to revive him and sic him on Frisk]].
** In "My Promise", [[spoiler:Frisk sacrifices themselves so that Chara can become the BigGood and the timeline becomes stable.]]
** While Game Over Part 1 didn't have anything shocking enough, Part 2 has one big development: [[spoiler:Jessica Gray sacrifices herself to save Gaster when the two of them are stuck under rubble.]]
** "Animosity" has [[spoiler:the heroes achieving an unambiguous victory on all three fronts. To add to this, Betty Noire finally meets her end at the hands of Gaster.]]
* TooCoolToLive: [[spoiler:Sans, who is shown to still be very strong when having his magic weakened, is killed off 2 episodes into Season 2. Even when he is revived, he is left stuck in a comatose state for a few more episodes before he finally wakes up at the end of "Game Over: Part 2", with him having a short lifeline before he dies again.]]
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** The school kids don't get a lot of focus. Cam [[spoiler:is killed]] in "Do or Die", the Patience girl vanishes after "Do or Die", Lily and Robin vanish after "Love: Part 1", the Perserverence boy only gets a short scene where Mettaton saves him from Betty and Zachary only gets his scene where he warns Undyne and Ronan about Kumuzilla. Hugo is the only one to get a good amount of focus by virtue of sharing screentime with his father Ronan. That they were all shown to have their own problems in supplementary material along with Camila teasing their possible importance only made their lack of focus in the end stick out more. [[spoiler:They ''do'' show up during the DistantFinale WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue of "Hope" as new members of the freshly-formed Determino Wizard Council alongside Chara and Asriel, but this doesn't help much.]]
** Some were not happy with WordOfGod's repeated statements of Amber having been [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal in the past (despite her body becoming Bête Noire) and that she wouldn't be involved in the present day storyline in any way, even as a spirit or a SplitPersonality of Betty]].
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** Some feel Jessica was more interesting as a TragicVillain and lament that she got a clear cut redemption arc so early in the Season. With her, Betty could've had the A.M.D on her side, not only making things more difficult for the heroes, but helping Betty reach her goal faster.
** Jessica could've used what happened to Alina and the other fallen children as a way to convince the human populace that monsters can't be trusted, making some humans actually root for Betty over the monsters and monster-loving humans.
** If no characters got resurrected, [[spoiler:imagine how heartbroken Asgore and Toriel would be once they learn they lost their precious son again... and how vengeful the loving parents would be at Betty for killing Asriel.]]
** Some felt that Asriel getting his soul stolen in "Love: Part 2" should've reverted him back to Flowey instead of killing him, as not only would this have lined up more with ''Undertale'' canon, but the truth of Asriel being Flowey could've greatly impacted the characters that didn't know this, especially Asgore and Toriel.
** Betty being a BrainwashedAndCrazy ObliviouslyEvil TragicVillain is completely unknown to the heroes, only revealed in supplementary material. It would've been interesting to see the heroes try to sympathize with a creature who lacks the ability to feel positive emotions (like Flowey) or make her own decisions without her creator or her memories maintaining control from within. Her potential death in the finale could've been a massive TearJerker and AlasPoorVillain moment as a result. [[spoiler:Instead, her death is portrayed extremely unsympathetically and is glossed over by having HATE hijacking her remains immediately after.]]
** Chara taking Asriel's HATE to have it become Animosity carried the implication that Chara would be in constant danger of being overtaken by it like with Betty if he used it too much. Some also thought that Chara trying to face their own hatred of humanity would have been both a solid way for this takeover to potentially happen and a better way for Chara to gain complete control over Animosity through overcoming said hatred. In the animation itself, Chara has no real trouble controlling Animosity outside the moment [[spoiler:Asriel is seemingly fatally stabbed by HATE]], and the differences Animosity brings end up being purely visual.
** Some felt that Asriel [[spoiler:actually dying]] in "Hope" could've made for an interesting and fitting conclusion to the darker Season 2, with many being interested in how [[spoiler:Chara could've saved the day alone or how he could've dealt with losing his brother and moving on.]]
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: Season 2 got hit with this hard over time. Early on, the heroes spend a huge amount of time [[WeUsedToBeFriends arguing and grinding each other into the dirt]]. Many people end up [[CharactersDroppingLikeFlies dying]], and the heroes' efforts to stop the BigBad all end up [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption failing spectacularly]] or are invalidated later on. It took until "Animosity", 8 episodes and nearly 4 real life years into the Season, for things to start really looking up.
* ToughActToFollow: Betty ended up ultimately being this. Throughout the series, she had been trouncing the heroes at nearly every turn, killing many people to achieve her goal and gave even the most powerful characters a tough time. [[spoiler:After her death, many were expecting HATE to be a complete nightmare comparatively due to it having been built up since "Love: Part 1", the heavy implication that it was far more powerful and dangerous than Betty and for having a more varied skillset on top of having gained Betty's powers. Unfortunately for HATE, it gets pitted against the most powerful members of the main cast and ends up losing most of its abilities once its physical form reaches phase 3. In the end, HATE ended up accomplishing next to nothing, having a total kill count of zero by the time it dies.]]
* UnnecessaryMakeover: Some felt that [[spoiler:HATE's physical form was more imposing and well-designed in its first two stages, especially the first, compared to its 3rd and final stage. The first two phases feel and act wild and animalistic, utilizing a wide array of powers in various ways. In comparison, the final form switches to one trait and weapon, Determination and a greatsword, and is completely humanoid]], which many thought looked more bland and underwhelming.
* UnexpectedCharacter:
** [[spoiler:Chara's return and subsequent promotion to TheHero]] in "My Promise" caught a few people off guard.
** [[spoiler:Muffet and Grilby pulling a BigDamnHeroes for Mettaton]] in "Game Over: Part 2" also took people off-guard considering until then, both characters had only made two short cameo appearances, with no indication they would show up again, let alone fight.
* UnintentionallySympathetic:
** In direct contrast with Betty being seen by some as UnintentionallyUnsympathetic, others see her in a completely different light and feel that [[WordOfGod Cami]] (who is adamant about openly ''hating'' her own OC and relishing in her demise) is demonizing a creature who is ''[[BrainwashedAndCrazy not]]'' [[BrainwashedAndCrazy in control of her actions]] and was created specifically by [[TheCorrupter Agate]] to be "Agate 2.0", meaning [[AndIMustScream she had no choice in what she became or in the sadistic crimes she committed.]] Those who point this out are also critical of Betty's backstory (not including "Glitchtale Origins") or sympathetic moments not being included in any of the animations, only on Tumblr or the wiki. It doesn't help that her death was '''beyond''' brutal in every sense of the word, and many admitted that they actually felt sorry for her upon seeing it, even if they didn't remotely sympathize with her before. WordOfGod states that Gaster paid her back with magnitudes more agony than she ever gave him throughout the entirety of their conflict, and some fans were not pleased that she was taking all the punishment rather than [[HateSink Agate, the only who truly deserved it,]] even if Agate technically was a part of her. There's also the fact that she was confirmed to have committed far less atrocities than Flowey had ([[EvenEvilHasStandards and would never dream of doing what he did when he had control over the timeline]]), [[RedemptionEqualsLife yet he achieved redemption as Asriel]] while she got obliterated.
** Even Agate has begun receiving this treatment, with some fans stating that [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation she may not have realized that reversing her trait would irreversibly remove all positive emotions and feelings from her,]] [[AndIMustScream meaning that every horrific action she and her vessel commit throughout the series was unintentional on her original personality’s part.]]
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic:
** Betty is regarded by some as [[HateSink too evil, sadistic and one-dimensional to sympathize with or feel sorry for]], despite her backstory indicating that she was corrupted upon her creation (stripped by Agate of all positive emotions that would allow her to empathize or show real kindness towards others) into being the demonic creature she is now. It doesn't help that none of these moments meant to display sympathy for her are shown in the animations. This also makes it difficult to believe that Betty is a WellIntentionedExtremist, making her look more like a NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist coming up with a terrible excuse to justify her love for slaughter and her FantasticRacism.
** Agate is an even bigger example. Take everything that is criticized about Betty and turn it up to eleven regarding her creator. According to WordOfGod, she was always overlooked and overshadowed in favor of her brother Copper, due to the latter possessing a Determination Soul. If she were to flawlessly perform a magic skill, whereas he would almost mess it up, he would still get way more attention. Her ideals (keep both races separated for the good of the world) conflicted with his (unite both races in eternal peace and rebuild society together). She lost a battle against Copper to decide the fate of the monsters. [[DisproportionateRetribution Her response]]? Search for a power that could surpass her brother, become the Wizard of Fear, throw all her positive qualities out the window, ''gleefully murder her innocent sister and brother'', and create a being who will use her own soul to live and draw upon the power of Hate to wipe out monsterkind. Oh, and inhabiting her creation's body as a spirit, ensuring that she will have no kindness or mercy, though considering she is a HateSink Agate being so unsympathetic might not have been unintentional.
