* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The opening action sequence where the Joes battle Cobra for the Art/StatueOfLiberty set against a hard hitting redux of the show's theme. For some it's practically JustHereForGodzilla.
* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Golobulus]] is the [[EvilOverlord ruler of Cobra-La]] and by far the most depraved villain to come from the original animated series. An ancient serpent entity who once lorded over Earth, Golobulus emerges from a deep hibernation thousands of years later to the sight of humanity having blossomed. Refusing to share the planet with anyone else and finding humans to be disgusting apes, Golobulus [[GreaterScopeVillain created the terrorist organization Cobra]] and [[TheManBehindTheMan installed Cobra Commander as his puppet]], using the group to commit a variety of atrocities against the human race in an attempt to exterminate or subjugate them. [[YouHaveFailedMe Tired of Commander's constant inept failures]], Golobulus painfully transforms the man into a snake, then reveals his plans to repeat a similar process on the entirety of humankind, reducing billions to submissive beasts for Golobulus to lord over. When the G.I. Joes attempt to thwart his plans, Golobulus sadistically brutalizes and tries to murder them all, bragging his intent to bathe in their blood before moving on to conquer all humans.
* FanDislikedExplanation: Very few people liked the Cobra-La explanation for Cobra's (and by extension Cobra Commander's) origin. Creator/LarryHama flatly refused to write a single word about Cobra-La in the comic book and gave the Commander a very different origin, the cartoon never mentioned Cobra-La again after the film, and future incarnations of ''Joe'' all had radically different concepts for Cobra's origins. The Hama case is particularly notable because while he disliked some of the sillier characters he had to work with, Cobra-La was one of the rare occasions he used his clout to outright refuse to write about something.
* FirstInstallmentWins: Several of the fans, who were detractors of the [[Film/GIJoeTheRiseOfCobra Live-action]] [[Film/GIJoeRetaliation films]], claimed that this film is the only true G.I. Joe movie. Part of this being that the only two canon vehicles that did get used, the SHARC and the Night Raven, had no resemblance to the 80's versions.
* HarsherInHindsight: [[spoiler: Duke's original death is this, when you discover he does die in ''Film/GIJoeRetaliation''.]]
* HilariousInHindsight: ''The Movie'' attempted to {{Retcon}} Cobra -- an {{Expy}} of the [[Creator/MarvelComics Marvel Universe's]] ComicBook/{{Hydra}} -- as originating from an AncientConspiracy serving a prehistoric civilization of EldritchAbomination {{Precursors}} straight out of the Franchise/CthulhuMythos. Decades later, the [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse MCU]] [[Series/AgentsOfShield retconned Hydra]] as originating from an [[Characters/MCUHYDRALeadership ancient cult that worshipped an ancient Cthulhu-type being]].
* MemeticMolester: Falcon's flirting is so rude by modern standards that he becomes offensive. It doesn’t help that Jinx clearly dislikes it and “Heather” is only playing along for sake of her mission.
* MemeticMutation:
** [[BrokenRecord "I was oonnnncccee a mannnnnnnn..."]]
** To a lesser extent: "COBRA, RETREAT! RETREAT!"
* {{Narm}}:
** Serpentor's battlecry of ''"Cobra-LALALALALALALALALA!"'' was probably supposed to be intimidating. It wasn't.
** Everything new character Big Lob says and does.
** The fact that the ruler of Cobra-La and GreaterScopeVillain for the entire series is named ''Golobulus''.
** After what was clearly meant to be Duke's dying words, the line "He's gone into a coma" straight afterwards is obviously haphazardly added in. It also causes later scenes, such as a fight scene where Serpentor specifically ''states'' that Duke died, to be quite narmy as well (though considering where he hit Duke, it's understandable that Serpentor would have little reason to think he was still alive). Quite egregious is the AlwaysWithYou ending where Falcon says to the stars "Thanks, big brother", despite the fact that the characters have already been told that Duke was awake.
** For many, the very idea that BigBadWannabe Cobra is now an evil ancient reptilian from the past.
* NarmCharm: The musical intro where the Joes take out Cobra on Liberty Island from blowing up the Statue of Liberty where the over-the-top action, the ridiculousness of Cobra's attack, and the cheesiness of the song ("Crashing through the sky, Comes a fearful cry: Cobraaaaa! (Cobraaaaaaaaa!) Cobraaaaaa! (Cobraaaaaaaaaaa!)") makes it looks like The War on Terror: The Musical. It's also beautifully animated, high tempo action, and a perfect distillation of the cartoon series in a single action sequence.
* SignatureScene:
** The opening sequence. G.I. Joe foils a Cobra attack on the Statue of Liberty, with almost every single character who had ever appeared on the show contributing. Throw in SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic and great moments like Duke punching Cobra Commander off the Statue.
** The part of the vine trap sequence where Quick Kick, Snake Eyes, and Lady Jaye fall victim may or may not skirt the line between FanService and FanDisservice.
* SpecialEffectFailure: You can see and hear one scene where a H.A.V.O.C. Duke was on shoot beams instead of shells at an unseen target. Also the movie has other Joe vehicle's and Chuckle's handgun make actual gun noises, sometimes. A Mauler is seen behind and to the left of Hawk's Snowcat in the tunnel, but is not seen exiting, not that it should have fit anyway.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Not all fans liked that the film turned the Cobra terrorists into a cell of ancient evil reptilians with a bunch of BodyHorror.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: The prehistory of reptilians, which in fact is similar to the snake people from the ''Franchise/CthulhuMythos''. And if that's not enough for you, then the film also adds a dose of BodyHorror.
* {{Woolseyism}}: The Japanese dub, in stark contrast with the original English version and basically every single western-language dubs, keeps Duke's death untouched and they didn't changed it to a coma like the original version.
