1	* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Troy Denning's treatment of Luke Skywalker has been controversial. It was less noticeable in his previous books, but still present. Basically, Luke is TheChessmaster who plays the Sith against one another while plotting schemes within schemes. Although, in ''Conviction'', written by a different author, Luke continues to behave this way, [[NotSoDifferentRemark with Vestara saying that he's not much different]].
2	** Is Saba actually a good heroine or a crazed KnightTemplar?
3	** Kenth Hamner is either a boot-licking toady or a man caught between two extremes.
4	** When Ben discovers Vestara's letters, is his behavior justified by anger, or borderline abusive?
5	** Given that "Zilaash Kul" is later revealed in ''Mercy Kill'' to be [[spoiler: an undercover Jesmin Tainer]], how hard did she actually try to capture Valin and Seff?
6	* AssPull: The plot twist in the final book that Abeloth is the Mother of the Mortis Gods, ''WesternAnimation/TheCloneWars'' having aired the Mortis arc before the book's release. There's no foreshadowing or anything that hinted this and it seems more like a half-assed way to connect two eras that have never had any past connections before.
7	* BrokenBase: This series divided fans. It introduced plenty of fascinating ideas into the mythos that also promised to tie into ''WesternAnimation/TheCloneWars''. The Lost Tribe of the Sith in particular were seen as an intriguing look at a different type of Sith Order. However, fans were very critical about other aspects, namely the characterization of most of the Jedi characters, the Abeloth character and the attempts to turn Daala into a credible threat. On the other hand, the series is at least considered superior to ''Literature/LegacyOfTheForce'', [[DamnedByFaintPraise though many probably wouldn't call that a big feat]].
8	* DracoInLeatherPants: Most, if not the entire Lost Tribe of the Sith.
9	* FanNickname: Ever since a certain [[http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/story/FOTJ_Ascension_Excerpt_On_SWcom_139020.asp excerpt from ''Ascension'']] was released, Gavar Khai has been called "Space [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=girv250p0jrqnjre7xo8ffqb Fabio]]".
10	* FanPreferredCouple: Ben/Vestara.
11	* FridgeLogic: After [[spoiler: Daala gets removed from her post via a coup]], Wynn has a conversation with Saba. Wynn says that Daala is "honorable". Daala, who sent Mandalorians to bully the Jedi and other people, and did not even try to moderate their monstrous behavior or punish them for it. Daala, who was cracking under pressure and was having hissy fits over the slightest mistakes. Wynn happens to have been a member of the New Republic, and he ought to have heard about Daala's actions with committing genocide. He had even seen Daala's behavior for himself. Where does he come off saying that she's honorable?
12	* JustHereForGodzilla: Many readers unimpressed with Admiral Daala's role and how the Jedi are portrayed are still interested in the Lost Tribe of the Sith and how so many characters and locations from the pre-''Literature/NewJediOrder'' ''Legends'' media (the people of Nam Chorios, Maarek Stele, the Dathomiri Nightsisters clans, the Fallanasi, etc.) reappear after long absences and get respectful and interesting portrayals.
13	* MoralEventHorizon: Go [[MoralEventHorizon/StarWars here]].
14	* ParanoiaFuel: An in-'verse example, as in, "Which Jedi is going to flip out next?"
15	** The effect of Force Psychosis: ''everyone'' becomes a enemy for the victim.
16	** You could have droches inside of you and you would never know until it's too late.
17	* {{Squick}}: Try imagining [[spoiler:Taalon, who is slowly turning into an EldritchAbomination, suckling on one of Abeloth's tentacles like a puppy]] because unfortunately for the readers' sanity, that actually happens.
18	* StrawmanHasAPoint: [[spoiler:Daala's fears about Jedi entitlement take on a new light after the Order's decision to enact a coup in the face of other potential options to gain their rights and curtail her excess such as using mounting public disapproval and political scandals to easily impeach her.]]
19	* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: Most felt that ''Fate of the Jedi'' was at least this in comparison to the more poorly received Literature/LegacyOfTheForce.
20	* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: With several books giving some focus to disparate groups of Force users with unusual abilities whose cultures and goals have been shaped by actions of the Jedi and/or the Rebel Alliance in the past several decades, it can be a shame that Endor never reappears. The Ewoks have an unusual brand of tribal magic that could have been explored and have old ties with Luke. ''The Essential Atlas'' says that, while still relatively isolated, Endor does have some trading posts, and tourist businesses get involved with it after the First Galactic Civil War. It would also have been interesting to see other Endor species like the Wisties, Jindas, Yuzzums, Phologs, Tulaghs, and AlwaysChaoticEvil Duloks, Sanyassan Marauders, and Goraxes adapt to a changed Endor for better or worse.
