1	* AnimationAgeGhetto: Due to its cute graphics, the game has often been mistaken for a kids’ game, so much so that stores often put it in the kids’ section. It’s anything but.
2	* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The intro. Yes, the very first thing in the game is a [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment BLAM]].
3	* DiagnosedByTheAudience: It's never explained what exactly is wrong with Edna. Her hearing Harvey talk and being able to speak to portraits could point to schizophrenia, but the term is never used in-game, not even by the (alleged) psychiatrist in charge of the asylum.
4	* EnsembleDarkhorse: Drogglejug is arguably the most popular character, even though he is just some guy who guards Adrian’s cushion castle all day and [[PokemonSpeak can only say his own name]].
5	* HilariousInHindsight: The implication that Guybrush Threepwood was an inmate [[spoiler: With the ending of Return to Monkey Island implying that Monkey Island was entirely fictional]]
6	* JerkassWoobie: Edna. No doubt she bullied Alfred when she was a kid, but her behavior was common in children and had a chance of changing her ways when she grew up. It's easy to feel sorry for her after what Dr. Marcell has put her through for ten years. And after the last memory scene, she clearly is shocked and remorseful over [[spoiler:killing Alfred.]]
7	* QuirkyWork: This game is very weird, mixing a cartoonish style with lots of black comedy and otherwise very German humor that give it a charm of its own.
8	* TearJerker:
9	** No matter what choice you make, [[spoiler: neither of the endings conclude on a happy note for the main characters. If you choose Marcel, Harvey is killed and Edna is successfully MindRaped into becoming another Alfred. If you choose Harvey, history repeats as Edna knocks Doctor Marcel down the stairs just as she did to Alfred all those years ago. Afterwords, Edna is never heard from again, the narration ''subtly'' implying she may have [[DrivenToSuicide committed suicide]].]]
10	** Suggest Edna should cut more holes in her already broken parasol. If you do she breaks down in tears saying '''everything''' is broken.
11	** Edna visiting her father's grave.
12	* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: See AnimationAgeGhetto above.
13	** The first release got no age restriction in Germany. The designer was rather unhappy about this, since it meant that the game frequently ended up on the kiddie game shelves, despite the fact that its content and humor would be above the heads of most kids. For the Special Edition, developer's commentaries were recorded in which the developer swore a lot, said "fuck" a couple of times completely non-sequitur and names masturbating as an option to spend an afternoon. He succeeded: the Special Edition has an age 12 and above restriction.
14	* TheWoobie: Even if Alfred was all as much of a pest as Edna claims him to be ([[UnreliableNarrator even though we only ever hear her side of it which is based of the warped memory of when she was kid]]) with all the pranks and mean things she did you can't help but to feel somewhat sorry for him.
15	** Even more so as in ''VideoGame/EdnaAndHarveyHarveysNewEyes'' it was stated that Alfred was used to test Dr. Marcell's behavior correction treatment from early on.
