* BetterOnDVD:
** The first two series only have 12 twenty minute episodes each, making it possible to binge watch Season 1, where the impact of Jenna's not-suicide, and then Season 2 with the fallout from her discovery of who wrote the letter. The two series could be watched quite leisurely over the course of a weekend.
** Seasons 3 & 4 are 20 episodes each with at least one double episode and Season 5 is 24. That change drags the pacing of the show's storylines, making them harder to watch in a single sitting. Season 3 also has a radical change in Jenna's behaviour, which can be hard to watch for viewers who were used to seeing her as a good person trying to be better.
%%* ClicheStorm: While some may say that the show is better than it sounds, others see it as just another teen show.
* CrackPairing: "Once Upon a Blog" features several AU's where these exist, mainly [[HoYay Matty/Jake]] and Matty/Ming.
* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Sadie's boyfriend Austin. He ends up having to state outright to Sadie that he has issues with recognition of social cues and repeatedly asks her very specific questions that most people would pick up on without issue.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Season 5, Episode 10: After dragging it out since last season's finale, [[spoiler:Jenna and Matty FINALLY confessing their feelings for each other and sharing a kiss.]]
%%* HollywoodHomely: Jenna and Tamara somehow have had difficulty attracting guys.
* HollywoodPudgy: Sadie is horribly self-conscious about her weight, and it is treated as somewhat of an AchillesHeel for her, but she is proportioned very similar to real world young women.
* SeasonalRot: Most viewers believe this happened in either Season 3, or Season 4.
** In Season 3 when Colin was introduced, Jenna ended up cheating on Matty with him, getting addicted to alcohol and drugs, and alienating her friends, family and got Val fired, then went blamed Colin for what she'd done.
** Season 4 saw creator Lauren Iungerich quit the show and the existing writing staff either quit as well or were fired due to the network wanting a fresh start, the show being retooled into a much more melodramatic, unrealistic high school soap opera with the introduction of Amber, and Ming being written off the show as her actress decided to also quit the show.
* TearJerker:
** When Jenna sees Matty kissing another girl in the hot tub. Then one season later when [[spoiler:Jake sees Jenna and Matty kissing in her bed.]] The look on their faces in both scenarios gets you.
** Jenna finding out who wrote the letter.
** Jenna singing the lullaby to her mom can definitely count as one of the (if not the) biggest tearjerking moments in the series thus far.
** Sadie crying to her mom about how self-conscious she is about her weight.
* TheWoobie: It's hard not to feel bad for Lacey after [[spoiler:the whole school reads Jenna's blog and starts to call her nonstop with hostile words]].
