* BaseBreakingCharacter: Chani, Brick's love interest. Some find her funny, others find her tedious and irritating and only adding to Brick's {{Flanderization}}.
* BetterOnDVD: [[https://www.huffpost.com/entry/anchorman-2-super-sized-r-rated-version-review_n_4876317 Several]] [[https://grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/three-versions-anchorman-2/ reviewers]] feel this way regarding the [[ReCut "Super-Sized" cut]] (which did briefly play in theaters) compared to the theatrical and unrated editions. This version replaces nearly all the dialogue with alternate takes and includes "763 new jokes" - meaning if you disliked the humor in the theatrical cut, the Super-Sized version might prove much funnier for you. Plus, many of the more criticized elements of the theatrical version, such as Brick's {{Flanderization}}, are downplayed significantly in this version.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Mack Tannen shows up as the final combatant in the newsteam battle, and transforms into a "Were Hyena" due to the early moon. He completely disappears after this and isn't even shown taking part in the battle itself, with his transformation mainly being an excuse for Music/KanyeWest to make a joke about ''Music/MichaelJacksonsThriller''.
* BrokenBase: The end fight scene. While it was pretty much mandatory after the memorable fight scene in the first movie, some felt that this one went on far too long and got far too ridiculous to be funny.
* ContestedSequel: While the film has received a positive response from critics (its score on Website/RottenTomatoes is even higher than the original), fans have split into three camps: It's not as good as the original and is a victim of {{Sequelitis}}, a worthy sequel that is still good even though the original is a ToughActToFollow or the rare group that finds it an EvenBetterSequel.
* EpilepticTrees: A popular theory states that Brick is actually a time traveler unstuck in time.
* EndingFatigue: The big news team battle, which happened at the midpoint of the original film, is the climax of this one and goes on for nearly twice as long, which feels especially arbitrary after Ron has already completed his character arc by quitting GNN. The film then has a second climax with Brick and Chani's wedding, where Ron is attacked by Doby, before the film finally ends.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** The ghost of Stonewall Jackson bit seems rather in bad taste considering the backlash against anything relating to the Confederacy in recent years.
** Champ's restaurant, which serves fried bats as "chicken of the cave", hits quite differently post-2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic allegedly began from the consumption of bat meat in China.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Creator/PaulRudd can harness the power of the Film/{{Black Panther|2018}}.
** Many fans noted that three of the rival news anchors in the final fight scene were played by past members of Franchise/{{Batman}}'s RoguesGallery, (Creator/JimCarrey as [[Film/BatmanForever Riddler]], Creator/LiamNeeson and Creator/MarionCotillard as [[Film/TheDarkKnightTrilogy Ra's and Talia al Ghul]]). Creator/WillSmith also appears in this scene, and would later go on to play the Batman villain [[Film/SuicideSquad2016 Deadshot]].
** In the extended edition the news team sing a song about what they would do if they were gay for a day. Brick describes he would be Spider-Man and [[Film/AntMan1 Brian]] is the only one to point that out.
* MoralEventHorizon: Jack Lime crosses it when he causes Ron Burgundy to trip while he's ice skating causing Ron to go blind.
* OneSceneWonder: Numerous during the big final battle but special mention goes to [[spoiler: the ghost of Stonewall Jackson as played by Creator/JohnCReilly.]]
* RetroactiveRecognition: A very odd one: There's a second-long shot of a cab driver after Ron and Linda leave her family's house. The cab driver would later go on to play the Killer in ''Film/TooManyCooks''.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Brian Fantana and Champ Kind aren't given nearly as much screen time as they are in the first film, especially compared to Brick.
* TrailerJokeDecay: The green screen joke gets this. As does the slo-mo Winnebago crash.
