* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDGjufjzjf8 first level's theme]] is very catchy, and will get you ready for some non-stop shooting.
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCfKvDDz18E second level's theme]] has a very upbeat vibe, perfect for an underwater level.
* BreatherBoss: The fourth boss, Zorzamoth the ice mammoth, is possibly the easiest in the game. If you duck, it will never attack you, it will instead bounce around. The boomerang tusks also aren't very hard to avoid.
* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: The remake has received criticism for not adding anything new, with the only new things gameplay-wise being difficulty settings and some rebalanced difficulty.
* PolishedPort: The PC, Platform/PlayStation4 and Platform/XboxOne versions of the remake adds several options that the initial Platform/NintendoSwitch release lacks, such as having faster loading screens and giving you the options of being able to play with the classic music, changing the filter of the screen to emulate an arcade, and letting you see concept artwork of the remake and reading the comic inside the game.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** Having only one hitpoint, a deceptively big hitbox for a player character and losing lives so easily can frustrate many players, even though it can eventually be worked around.
** The remake has caught some flak for not including any sort of save function[[note]]The original game had this too, but it was an arcade game, justifying this.[[/note]], meaning you have to beat the entire game in one sitting. That said, the game can be beaten in about 30 minutes, making it slightly less of an issue than you would think.
* ThatOneBoss: Bashtar. Considering he is a deity, it should not be surprising, but he can cover his weak point (his beating heart) with his hands, his patterns are a bit erratic and he can use his feet to limit your movements. And that can get to the point you ''can't dodge'', leading to cheap deaths.
* TheWoobie:
** Toki, since failing to rescue Miho not only results in, according to the [[Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem NES]] version, him being cursed to remain an ape forever, but, according to the arcade version, Miho will be ''killed''.
** Miho, as she's imprisoned by Vookimedlo and will be ''killed'' should Toki fail to rescue her. In the remake's comic, it's stated that Miho will be sacrificed in one of Vookimedlo's experiments to bring Bashtar back to his original form.
