Go To

* ActorShipping:
** Played up several times by various combinations of [[HoYay male]] Team Snob members, particularly Brad/Dave and Dave/Brian. This is in spite of the fact that, as of November 2017, '''every''' member of Team Snob is married.
** Naturally, the comments tend to be very supportive of the two real-life pairings within Team Snob, Brad/Laura and Sarah/Dave (three if you count Brian/Leddie) as well.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: Episodes with Irving often tended to feature him saying something horribly offensive and the other guy reacting angrily. This gradually became less common starting in 2014 as Irving became a more serious reviewer (well, as "serious" as the rest of Team Snob, anyway).
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Jake was one for "Team Snob", even getting to co-host the 2011 worst movies list. In the truest expression of this trope, Lloyd the cat ends up sitting on the lap for the review.
** With her (ultimately short-lived) return to ''Midnight Screenings'' in the review of the ''Poltergeist'' remake, Jillian became this. Notably, a huge number of fans came to her defense when Brad and Sarah vocally disagreed with her opinion of ''Film/JurassicWorld'', although many others (including Team Snob) feel this was an example of an AbuseMistake.
** Brad's fantastic chemistry with Rob Walker led to a sort-of spin-off series - ''Brad Ruins Rob's Day''.
* FanNickname:
** "The ____ and ____ Show" ("Brad and Sarah," "Brian and Irving," "Brad and Dave," etc.), referring to the varying dynamics that result from different reviewer pairings.
** [[Memes/{{Pokemon}} "A wild ____ appears!"]] whenever someone sits up or chips in from the backseat.
* GrowingTheBeard:
** While the series was good before, it could be argued that either the ''Mr. Popper's Penguins'' or ''The Smurfs'' videos could be seen as turning points.
** The ''Film/TwelveYearsASlave'' review marked a major milestone as one of the show's most serious and analytical reviews. Though it didn't exactly set a new precedent (most episodes since have still been very comedic in tone), it did help shift the show away from sketch-type humor (e.g. "racist" Irving, ''Twilight''-girl Jillian, "Slaver Brian" jokes), which was phased out over the next year in favor of a more casually analytical review format. The shift was cemented with the firing of Jake (who had kept up the "Angry Jake" persona to the end) in March 2015.
** When the car format returned in late September 2019. Also Doug started appearing in more videos not long after this starting with the ''Film/MaleficentMistressOfEvil'' review.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Jake's reaction to ''Film/ThatsMyBoy'' makes you wonder exactly what the "beating up someone who was threatening a child" incident was that made him miss ''Film/Zookeeper2011''.
** Whenever Brad and his friends are eagerly anticipating a movie to watch only for the film to either be disappointing or flat-out horrible.
** Brad's now-deleted video on his struggle with depression [[FridgeBrilliance explains very well why he took the haphazard treatment of mental issues in ''Moms' Night Out'' so personally]].
** In the ''Loqueesha'' review, Laura says that she’s known people who are suicidal. At the end of the ''Friday Night Movies'' review of ''Film/AnnabelleComesHome'', ''The Dead Don’t Die'' and ''Film/Yesterday2019'', Laura reveals that her father committed suicide.
** Jake in the Worst Movies of 2011 list said when speaking of ''[[Film/AlvinAndTheChipmunks Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked]]'' that "It's a good thing I didn't have a gun in the theater because I would have shot myself."
** Brad getting kicked out of the house by Jillian for bashing ''Literature/TheTwilightSaga'' is now pretty awkward to watch after Brad announced that he and Jillian have separated.
** Many Brad and Jake videos, particularly the ''Nothing!'' video, that showcase the two of them at the height of their friendship and simply having fun together, laughing and talking. Knowing [[EtTuBrute their future]] adds no shortage of uncomfortable feelings to these moments of happiness. The entire ''Film/MrPoppersPenguins'' review in particular became this after Brad revealed that Jake had wholesale lied about the couple's activities in the back row, which explains why Jerrid had no idea what Jake was talking about. Brad's claim that Jake is a pathological liar also puts any story he told about himself (that wasn't corroborated by another member of Team Snob) into question, some of which have been cited in Funny Moments and Awesome Moments pages.
** Related to the previous point, this also applies to other videos Brad did with people that he suffered dramatic falling-outs with, including Violet (his girlfriend who broke up with him via text message; in fact, a Midnight Screening featuring them both was released just days before Brad announced their break-up), Creator/{{Allison|Pregler}} (who burned bridges with him after the 2018 Channel Awesome controversy), and [[Creator/LewisLovhaug Lewis]] in the ''Film/PowerRangers2017'' video (who sided with Allison).
*** The text-dumping is particularly harsh in regard to the review for ''Film/PaperTowns'', where Brad had done an extended bit about being dumped over an unfunny text -- filmed during his relationship with Violet, no less.
** Brad and Dave were looking forward to ''Hillary's America'', saying they were looking forward to [[SoBadItsGood a comedy]] that week. When they saw it, they found it so bad, [[TooSpicyForYogSothoth they left the theater about halfway through]].
* HeartwarmingInHindsight:
** Whenever they're dreading an upcoming movie only for them to actually enjoy it.
** In the ''WesternAnimation/IceAgeContinentalDrift'' review with Jake, Brad mentions that his mother is a lesbian. [[FridgeBrilliance Suddenly, his anger at the homophobia in ''Rock: It's Your Decision'' takes on a whole new light.]]
* HilariousInHindsight:
** When Jake was talking about the trailers in the ''WesternAnimation/CloudyWithAChanceOfMeatballs2'' and ''WesternAnimation/FreeBirds'' videos, he was not happy with the trailers for ''WesternAnimation/Frozen2013'', saying it "looks really fucking stupid" and going on tangents about how much he wasn't looking forward to seeing it. Watching these comments after his review of the film (in which he and Brad end up calling it the best kids movie of 2013) makes the rants even funnier.
** In the review of ''Film/GreenLantern2011'', the crew criticize Creator/RyanReynolds and Creator/BlakeLively for having no chemistry. The two married a year later.
** In the review of ''Film/GodsNotDead'', Brad jokes that the actor who didn't stand up during the climactic scene must have gotten stuck in his seat. According to Website/{{IMDB}}, ''[[http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2528814/goofs that's exactly what happened]]''.
*** Also in the same review, Brad jokes that as bad as the film was, at least Kirk Cameron wasn't in it. Later in the year, he ate his words after having had to see ''Saving Christmas'', which turned out to be even WORSE than ''God's Not Dead''.
** Brad and Ryan mention in the ''Film/{{Ted 2}}'' review that having Ted go to court over whether or not he could legally be considered a "person" seemed pretty dated, and it would have made more sense topically if the case had been over whether or not he and his girlfriend could get married (mirroring the same-sex marriage debate in America). Just a few hours after the review was filmed and a couple of hours before it was uploaded to the site, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obergefell_v._Hodges Obergefell v. Hodges]]'' that gays and lesbians had the legal right to marry (and have their marriages be recognized) in every U.S. state.
** In the ''[[Film/Neighbors2014 Neighbors]]'' review, Allison and Brad said that they thought that the characters played by Zac Efron and Dave Franco would [[spoiler:turn out to be gay. In ''Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising'', Dave Franco's character turns out to be gay, but Zac Efron’s character does not.]]
** In the ''Film/{{Vacation}}'' review, Brad jokes about walking out of the movie and says that he's never done so. Less than a year later, he walked out of ''Hillary's America''.
** In the ''[[Creator/TylerPerry Boo! A Madea Halloween]]'' review, Brad and Brian speculate that the recent spate of MonsterClown sightings was ViralMarketing for the film in question. Over the next year, conspiracy theories that [[Film/It2017 a different film]] was responsible for the clowns became so widespread the producers had to formally deny it.
** In the ''Film/{{No Good Deed|2014}}'' review, they talk about the trailer for ''Addicted'', and Brian jokingly calls it ''Fifty Shades of Black''. A real movie with that title came out in 2016.
** Similarly to the above example, in the review for ''Film/TheBookOfHenry'', Brian compares Henry's behavior to that of the protagonist of a theoretical inverted version of ''Film/{{Big}}'', titled ''Small''. Less than two years later, a real film with that premise, titled ''Film/{{Little|2019}}'', was released, though the main character was a businesswoman rather than the male stockbroker Brian postulated.
** In the ''Film/AmericanMade'' review, Sarah talks about the trailer for ''Film/FatherFigures'', and she says that the characters played by Creator/OwenWilson and Creator/EdHelms [[spoiler:will turn out to be twins]], and that turned out to be the case.
** The review of ''Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesOutOfTheShadows'' starts with Brad and Allison discussing what WebVideo/{{Phelous}} thought of the movie [[note]]this video was uploaded only a few minutes after Phelous' own vlog about ''Out of the Shadows''[[/note]]. Allison thinks he'd hate it. Brad brings up the possibility of him thinking it was SoOkayItsAverage , which Allison said she'd find shocking if that were the case. Guess which of the two was correct.
** In the review of ''Film/FreeStateOfJones'', Sarah and Brian talk about the trailer for ''Film/BadMoms'', and Brian says, "I really don't look forward to when it's just year after year of, like, ''Bad Moms 3: Vegas or Bust''." At the end of ''A Bad Moms Christmas'', [[spoiler:the moms’ moms go to Vegas.]] (Also it has been confirmed that there will be a third Bad Moms movie called ''Bad Moms’ Moms'' and the actresses who played the moms’ moms will reprise their roles.)
** In the review for a rerelease of ''Film/{{The Fast and the Furious|2001}}'', Sarah and Brad discuss the franchise's DeathIsCheap tendencies and Sarah speculates that [[spoiler:Han, who died in ''[[Film/TheFastAndTheFuriousTokyoDrift Tokyo Drift]]'',]] could still be brought back despite the implausibility of survival. Come the trailer for ''Film/{{F9}}''...[[note]]Even better, Sarah notes the primary reason [[spoiler:Han]] might not be brought back is due to the character being a CreatorsPet for Creator/JustinLin, who had left the franchise. ''F9'' marked Lin's return to the series, and thus [[spoiler:Han's]].[[/note]]
* HoYay:
** In the review of ''Film/TheInternship'', not all of Jake's face is in frame, and Dave says to Jake, "Show them that beautiful face, buddy" and touches Jake's hair.
** Brian and Dave hugging each other in the review of ''Film/TheNightBefore''.
** ''Film/TheSmurfs2'' review has Brad, Jake and Irving [[ItMakesSenseInContext all shirtless]] for a good chunk of the video. The HomoeroticSubtext is {{Lampshaded|Trope}} by them.
** Brad and Dave have such a great... ahem, ''rapport'' in their videos together, that, when Dave wasn't available to do ''God's Not Dead 3'',[[note]]Brad and Dave tend to do Christian films, including the previous two ''God's Not Dead'' films.[[/note]] some commenters jokingly complained about his replacement not having the same sexual tension with Brad in the video. Keep in mind that said replacement was Laura, ''Brad's wife.'' Brad even lampshades this himself in their review for ''One Nation Under God''.
** Deliberately invoked in the second ''Film/{{Let There Be Light|2017}}'' video, with Brian lovingly scratching Dave's beard.
** Brad and Doug see ''Film/FantasyIsland2020'' on Valentine's Day.
* JustHereForGodzilla: {{Lampshaded|Trope}} in Brian and Dave's review of ''Film/GirlsTrip'', when they state that Brad has been in more episodes due to the fact the episodes with him get more views.
-->'''Brian:''' [[SelfDeprecation I don't even watch the [videos] I'm in]]; just him.
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: It's pretty subtle, but a lot of the episodes start off with one of them laughing.
* ReplacementScrappy: While most fans were supportive of Laura joining Team Snob, many saw her as this due to the timing of her being more prominently featured in the reviews with husband Brad while regulars Brian, Sarah, and others suddenly made fewer appearances (Brian confirming that he left Team Snob for personal reasons makes this claim all the more damning.)
** To be fair, much of the claim stems from Laura’s uneasiness on camera [[EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference during her earlier appearances in the videos,]] [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap which has improved ever since.]]
* SeasonalRot: At a certain point, most of the reviews stopped having spoilers which, although obviously good for people who don’t want the movie spoiled, limits how much they can talk about the movie. Also some time after Brad and Laura moved to Chicago, the videos have been mostly just been Brad and Jerrid. Laura hasn't been seen since the ''WesternAnimation/{{Soul}}'' review, [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome with no explanation given for her absence.]]
* TestosteroneBrigade:
** Sarah and Jillian have quite a few male fans, although their opinions are generally just as respected as everybody else's.
** Laura becoming a visible participant of the videos was also very well-received by male fans.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The show has gone through different formats. The car format ended in April 2019 and returned in late September 2019. After the ''Series/TigerKing'' review, posted in March 2020, Brad, due to the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic, started reviewing things by himself in his house. Some reviews since then were done in the car format. The show went back to its original format, although it was mostly just Brad and Jerrid in the videos, but several reviews after that were done in the post-''Tiger King'' review format. The review for ''WesternAnimation/PAWPatrolTheMovie'' was done in the original format. It that review, Brad explains that he only needs to talk about some movies for a few minutes, but ''PAW Patrol: The Movie'' needed more time devoted to talking about it. Now reviews of new movies are done in the "Brad at home" format, and the Midnight Screenings format isn’t done very often, and when it is, it’s for three old movies, and it’s only Brad and Jerrid reviewing them.
* UnexpectedCharacter:
** The first two ''Maze Runner'' movies were with Brian. The third had Brad with... his wife Laura, until then known as 'Off-Screen Laura' given that whenever she also went to the movie, she hid herself in the backseat.
** And again with Laura in the review for the third ''God's Not Dead'' film, a series that Brad and Dave usually handle. (Dave was unavailable at the time.)
* TheWoobie:
** Back in the day, some considered Jake this... considering the movies he had to go see in Summer 2011. Then in 2012, he had to see an Creator/AdamSandler movie. Post-March 2015, however, most fans stopped considering him this.
** Brad in the ''Film/EndlessLove'' review, due to how angry he was (more than he was at ''Film/AGoodDayToDieHard'' and ''Film/TransformersDarkOfTheMoon'').
** Dave got this from viewers after ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice''. Poor guy just seems so broken and angry after that movie that it's no wonder he did the review with his then-fiancé Sarah beside him. He goes through the same thing after seeing ''Film/ShowDogs'', being despondent and speaking with a quiet tone through the review for the movie.
