* AbandonShipping: Many fans respectfully did this with Satch/Hana after the real Satchell Drakes came out as gay, with many presuming it was the reason his route was largely platonic.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: In Jirard's route, it's hard to tell if Wallid actually knew [[spoiler:the Princess Pumpernickel he was giving Hana was a fake]]. On one hand, when he learns the truth, he seems genuinely surprised, and while he tried to insist [[spoiler:it was real]], he didn't seem nervous or desperate in doing so, making it seem like he truly believed it. On the other hand, [[spoiler:he was strangely secretive about where he got it when giving it to Hana, despite his later explanation being simply that a fan sent it to him, and he ''was'' still trying to blackmail Hana with it]]. The later added completionist bonus does clear this up a bit.
** Shane's ex, [[spoiler:Emily,]] is prone to this, as is the effect she had on Shane. [[spoiler:Some interpret her relationship with Shane as having been unhealthy and possibly even abusive, citing that Shane's wariness of Hana's pink hair is eerily reminiscent of a PTSD trigger. Others think he doesn't hate her, and that the relationship falling apart had more to do with the circumstances surrounding it.]] The game doesn't help, with Shane expressing entirely different opinions on her depending on the ending.
* AudienceAlienatingPremise: It a dating sim based on real people, though fictionlised. That alone would be enough to ward some people off, but with the [=ProJared=] scandal tainting it in an awkward light, many who once loved the game have disowned it, with it [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrFDhMV9VnQ being argued]] that the game was ''always'' destined to age poorly. Even after the controversy cooled down, and many have come to defend [=ProJared=] since then, the game remains difficult to talk about without at least mentioning the controversy.
** Aging the game even worse is Jirard, aka the Completionist, undergoing his own accusations of his Open Hand Foundation not donating any of the money to dementia research like they said they would. The drama remains unresolved at the time of writing, but it certainly didn't help the game's already damaged reputation.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The Jacques route is ''extremely'' bizarre, and takes a harsh shift in tone from the rest of the game. [[spoiler:Especially the bad end, in which Hana threatens suicide by jumping from a window and is dragged away from the school screaming into a van.]]
** The post credits scene after Satch's route is pretty weird. [[spoiler:As revenge for letting her and Hana take the fall for the Boots' disappearance, Mai dresses Caddy up in a Kappa costume and has him declare that he is a bad kappa while holding a dog shaming-esque sign.]]
** The Joshualina scene is this as well. The origins of the wig are never explained, and the character never shows up again, even in the Continue route.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Shane and Luke are very popular among the fans, with a good few even asking for a modded Luke route.
** Mai isn't even one of the guys and she is a fan favorite. Either you love her because she is the best friend ever or wish she had a route too.
* FanPreferredCouple: Hana/Mai is really popular as fans pick up on LesYay and ShipTease between the two and really wish Mai was a GayOption.
* HarsherInHindsight: The [=ProJared=] route became this after the scandal that allegedly claimed the actual Jared had an affair with [[WebVideo/GameGrumps Holly Conrad]], who Hana strongly resembles. What's more, one scene in Jared's in-game route depicts him giving Hana {{gonk}}y glamour shots of himself, which unintentionally paralleled the actual Jared exchanging nude photographs with Holly during said alleged affair. %%As per the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgment, let's leave it at that for Jared's privacy.
* HoYay: The guys are occasionally prone to this. One big example would be Jared referring to Satch as his "husband" during the Super Stomp Sisters tournament in Chapter One. He even continues to blatantly flirt with him afterwards.
** Nick and Josh are also subject to some of this, by virtue of being ThoseTwoGuys, even in the Continue route. [[spoiler:Even when they're fighting over Hana, they seem more focused on arguing with each other than earning her affection, making some fans wonder why they didn't just [[PairTheSpares get together instead]].]]
* [[LgbtFanbase LGBT+ Fanbase]]: Likely due to several featured Youtubers being gay, and thus having LGBT+ followings in the first place. Mai's WordOfGay and several allusions to the school being queer-friendly certainly helped as well.
* LesYay: If Mai didn't have a crush on Jared anyone would think she is madly in love with Hana. She hugs Hana all the time, makes a pillow fort for her, keeps complimenting her, and even nuzzles her. ''All that before chapter 2''. Even after you start dating a guy she will still be on Hana, like teaching her how to kiss and immediately asking if she wants to "practice". Many players were surprised to discover she isn't a GayOption.
* MoralEventHorizon: Mimi Santos is always an AlphaBitch, but in Jon's worst ending she reveals [[spoiler: that she let the secret about Jacques to the entire school, causing Jon to angrily break up with Hana. Mimi just gloats while Hana breaks down crying.]] That's just ''low''.
** Hana ''herself'' goes through this in a few worst ends, in particular [[spoiler:Continue's, where she rats out Caddy for having guns ''during Paul's campaign speech, in front of the entire school''.]]
* NightmareFuel: Good God, Jacques's route. Jacques's route turns [[spoiler:Hana from a sweet girl into a literal sociopath, and watching the descent into madness while hopelessly trying to push her away from her terrible decisions is one part frustrating, many parts terrifying. This is cemented by the usage of some VERY jarring and uncanny expressions that she wears whenever Jacques is involved, all of which are not seen on any other route.]]
* OneSceneWonder: Joshualina. She appears in one scene in Act 1 and is only alluded to a few other times, but fans have field day speculating about her.
* OvershadowedByControversy: As noted under AudienceAlienatingPremise, in the years following this game's release, some of the [=YouTubers=] who appeared in this game got caught up in their own controversies, which had the side-effect of hurting this game's reputation. As such, it's difficult to talk about this game without at least bringing up those controversies, even if you don't wish to make it the focus of your review.
* SpiritualAdaptation: A short haired, bespectacled girl (one who lived in poverty beforehand) becomes a student at a prestigious school, is in constant contact (and holds the affections of) the resident popular club of pretty boys, and one of said pretty boys [[spoiler: has a DarkAndTroubledPast surrounding family]]. It's basically an Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub game. Also, to a slightly lesser extent (since Hana needs glasses, and Makino doesn't), it's a ''Manga/BoysOverFlowers'' game.
* TearJerker: The bad endings. Jon's worst ending stands out.
