Go To

* AccidentalAesop: You could make the reasonable argument that the reason the videos have thumbnails that have delicious looking food on them and misleading titles is because [=HowToBasic=] is really teaching us that you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** "How to Make a Thai Fish Curry", [[spoiler:which provides the first time he has actually cooked something successfully with no oddities. Too bad he went apeshit on it at the very end.]]
** "How to Make Crab Curry" is a sort of reprisal of the above video. Mr Basic manages to make the entire dish without having an episode, despite some ''very'' close calls. Then maxmoefoe walks in, picks up the finished curry, and throws it on the ground.
** In "How to Shave", he makes a cup of tea reasonably well ([[VisualPun apart from dipping the teabag into the water from in between his legs]] and spilling some of the tea while trying to stir it), but then promptly empties it down the toilet before continuing the video.
** In "How to Make Vegan Lasagna", Mr. Basic does his usual shtick by loading up his lasagna with "vegan" meats, until a lasagna sheet with a chicken breast on it falls to the floor. The chicken breast then proceeds to travel outside, lay eggs in the dirt, go back inside, take a shower, then return to the kitchen. Mr. Basic just picks it back up and continues the video like nothing happened.
* CatharsisFactor: Watch as a man destroys things with gusto, and revel with him in the destruction.
* EpilepticTrees: Ever since he did a crossover video with WebVideo/FilthyFrank, many people began to believe Mr. Basic is Dade, considering their similar stature and the screams sound eerily similar. Doesn't help Frank's actor Joji has jokingly played around saying Dade is Mr. Basic.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: "How to Make Cheeseburger Pizza": The first three quarters of the video is traditional "How to Basic" fare, with Mr. Basic assembling a "Cheeseburger Pizza," and then destroying it in epic fashion before putting a piece of the resulting monstrosity into a Pizza Hut pizza box. The last fourth of the video cuts to Mr. Basic walking down a city street, pizza box in hand, and stops near a homeless person sleeping on the sidewalk. Mr. Basic opens the box, [[spoiler:revealing a completely normal pizza with a cheeseburger sitting on top]], slides it over to the homeless person, and walks off.
* InTheStyleOf:
** Any vegan recipe video = Generic cooking channel
** "How To Perform 10 Magic Tricks With Eggs" = Life hack channel
* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: [[spoiler:Acting like a normal civilized person in "How to Make a Thai Fish Curry," then completely freaking out at the last part of the video.]]
** [[spoiler:"[[WhamEpisode Face Reveal]]". Of the dozens of [=YouTube=] celebrities who [[IAmSpartacus claim to be Mr. Basic]], it's probably safe to say none of them are really him.]]
* MemeticMutation: "[[ItsPersonal Eggs killed his parents]]" is the commonly accepted explanation among the fandom for why Mr. Basic spends so much time smashing every single egg that he can possibly get his hands on.
%%* NauseaFuel:
%%** "How to Tenderize Meat" is ''really'' hard to watch.
%%** "How To Make a [[WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants Krabby Patty]]". The "patty" he makes looks absolutely putrid by the end of it.
%%** "How To Shave" is absolutely ''vomit inducing.''
%%** "How to Stop Snoring" applies the usual destructive tendency of the series to a whole dead fish. It's....worrying.
%%** "How To Make KFC Chicken". BrainBleach may be required
%%** "How To Make Jelly Beans" Make sure you have a spare bag for puking into.
%%** "How to be Sexy" No, we do not mean "sexy" in a good way.
%%** "How to Announce You're Pregnant". Jesus Christ.
%%** "How to Morph Into a Chocolate Cake". That chocolate does ''not'' look appetizing.
%%** "How to Perfectly Butter Toast". Some of the most nauseating sounds on the channel
%%** "How to Remove the Tampon: Tons and tons of blood.
%%** To those with weak stomachs, pretty much ''any'' video involving food is this, really...
* PlayAlongMeme: It's guaranteed that whatever video you click on, the first couple dozen comments will be people [[BlatantLies thanking Mr. Basic for another informative how-to video or saying how great the tutorial worked for them]], to help further disguise the video's true content to unsuspecting rubes.
* {{Squick}}: [[PunctuatedForEmphasis Almost. Every. Single. Video.]] ''Especially'' the ones that involve preparing food. Special mention goes to "How to make a Krabby Patty"
* TearJerker:
** In "How To Cure Constipation". Those poor, poor eggs...
** The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMbF2kA5WAI&t=1m41s ending]] of "How To Stuff A Turkey", in which he [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone expresses genuine grief and remorse]] for [[spoiler:having killed the pregnant turkey.]]
** "How To Teach A Child To Walk." [[spoiler:The baby died.]]
** "How To Train a Cat" is one of Mr. Basic's most controversial episodes for this reason - he grabs his cat while it's lying down in a chair and affectionately snuggling his hand as he pats it and then it cuts to him doing...''something'' to it as it moans in pain and is promptly thrown at a tv. [[spoiler:Granted, the thrown object was a black bag with something heavy inside, but ''still''.]]
** "How to Make Subway Cookies" starts innocently enough, with Mr. Basic going through the process of making about a dozen cookies. Which then spontaneously burst into flames. Mr. Basic puts them out in a panic, whimpering sadly as he picks one of the burnt cookies up. After he manages to successfully bake the cookies by slamming a shovel down on some chickens filled with eggs, chocolate and mushed Subway sandwiches, they burst into flames ''again'', causing him to scream in frustration.
** "How To Make a Vegan Curry" sees Mr. Basic terrorized by eggs and meat [[ItMakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext trying to force him to add them to his vegan curry.]] Against all odds, he resists long enough to plate it and take one bite. [[spoiler:Then he loses to the temptation to smash an egg against the counter and his Curry vanishes, much to his dismay.]]
** "How To Prepare a Christmas Ham" is easily one of the most depressing videos [=HowToBasic=] has made. The video plays out as if the ham is Mr. Basic's own child, complete with sound effects. After the ham is "born", a montage plays out with Mr. Basic bathing the ham, putting on its diaper and onesie, brushing its nonexistent teeth, putting it to bed, feeding it, watching TV with it, teaching it the alphabet, tickling it, etc. It suddenly takes a heartbreaking turn when the ham is put on a bike and it slams into a wall. Mr. Basic fails to save its life, and the same montage clips play, this time set to a sad tune after the ham's "death". After that, the ham appears with "1 Like=1 Prayer" under it. It went from weirdly adorable to tearjerking in the blink of an eye. It's then followed by Mr. Basic cooking the ham and smashing it with a shovel, but still.
* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The scene in "How to Make Subway Cookies" where Mr. Basic slams a shovel down onto several chickens perfectly cuts from the moments before the impact to replace the chickens with cookies, in stark contrast to the series' usual haphazard cuts.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oryq_TdAyNI How to Make Eggs Benedict]] features a chicken body materialising, floating across the room, and disappearing in a puff of smoke thanks to wires and surprisingly good special effects.
