* AluminiumChristmasTrees: The [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_of_Wellington_(title) Wellington nobles]] are actually a real family.
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Some fans hate Sandybell because she can be too much of a pushover, especially in the first few episodes where she overlooks Charles's behaviour. She also has a tendency to be kind to people who are straight up {{Jerkass}}es.
** Kitty. Some fans appreciate her turn of heart and journey towards being a better person, but others prefer the LoveToHate route.
* BrokenBase: For Italian fans, it's which dub is better - the first Rai one or the Mediaset one. Many fans prefer the original Rai one and dislike the changes made by the Mediaset (for example, NeverSayDie, even though Rai allowed that one even if they also censored the series). They also made the change of having Music/CristinaDAvena sing the Italian theme song (instead of Le Mele Verdi), who is a base-breaking figure in her own right.
* CatharsisFactor:
** Anytime Sandybell tricks Charles and his GangOfBullies into falling flat on their faces.
** Alec slapping Kitty is hailed as one of the best moments in the show.
* CommonKnowledge:
** The dog's name is "Oliver", not "Tambour". Even sites like [=MyAnimeList=], to this day, make this mistake. This misconception stems from the fact that Tambour is his French-dub name and the anime was popular in France.
** ''Hello! Sandybell'' never had a manga. That doesn't stop [[Literature/ThePianistFromSyriaAMemoir actual, published]] novels from claiming otherwise.
* FanPreferredCouple: Alex/Kitty make up the vast majority of shipping fanfiction.
* FriendlyFandoms:
** In UsefulNotes/{{Cuba}}, many fans of ''Hello! Sandybell'' are also fans of ''Anime/VoltesV'' because they aired around the same time slots on the channel CubavisiĆ³n.
** Swedish fans of ''Hello! Sandybell'' tend to also be fans of other anime titles released in Sweden during the 80s since they were all dubbed by the same company, most notably ''Anime/{{Starzinger}}'' (which uses the exact same voice cast as ''Hello! Sandybell'') and ''Anime/GingaNagareboshiGin''. These three titles are sometimes cited as a trifecta of sorts among older Swedish anime fans, not dissimilar to how 00s' shounen fans had "[[Manga/OnePiece The]] [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Big]] [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Three]]".
** As a whole, fans of ''Hello! Sandybell'' are also fans of ''Manga/CandyCandy''.
* GatewaySeries: For many Europeans (notably Romanians and Swedes) into anime.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff/HelloSandybell Has it's own page]].
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Mark breaking off his ArrangedMarriage to Kitty. In the Swedish dub, their [[Creator/TomasBolme voice]] [[Creator/ElisabethNordkvist actors]] are married.
** [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ricky_6.png Ricky Kentle]] resembles a certain Italian plumber. His [[Franchise/SuperMario game]] wouldn't be released until four years later.
* MemeticMutation:
** Comparing Ricky to Mario because of his clothes.
** Because of Mark's VagueAge, some fans (particularly the Latin American fandom) call him [[PaedoHunt "a pedo"]] for his attraction to Sandybell. In Rayo Confuso's review of the series, he puts a PNG of Pedobear in the background to represent Mark. This becomes funny since in the show, the Countess says Mark is too young to get married.
** [[https://giphy.com/gifs/rayoconfuso-rayo-confuso-sandybell-yt75mD5A7QYDCNE5cB The infamous scene]] where Alec slaps Kitty, for CrossesTheLineTwice factor.
* {{Moe}}: Sandybell herself, with her kind and cheerful personality, i.e. absolutely adorable.
* NarmCharm: [[spoiler:The final scene of the anime. Linda and Mr. Ronwood sit inside the Sandybell Van, while Charles, Oliver and the neighborhood kids sit on top and Sandybell and Mark sit together. The van starts driving, and inexplicably, it's lifted off the ground and begins flying in mid air, and the camera pans to showing the van flying in front of the sun, before the words ''The End'' show up at the bottom of the screen.]]
* PeripheryDemographic: It's a show aimed at little girls, and is just as popular amongst boys for being very comfy. Helps that it knows how to veer into sweet and heartwarming territory without turning [[SweetnessAversion diabetic]].
* TheScrappy: Maggie, who is probably one of the most annoying crybabies in all of anime history.
* ShipSinking:
** [[spoiler: Alec admits to Mark that he can't view Sandybell romantically because she's more like a little sister to him.]]
** [[spoiler:Mark formally breaking off his engagement to Kitty, telling it to her face instead of leaving a letter like he did last time. And then Alec swoops in...]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Alec:''' Sometimes, when one love ends, it's better to look for another ''[wink]''.]]
* ShipToShipCombat: A subset of the fandom pairs Sandybell with Alec, preferring it to Sandybell/Mark. [[spoiler:They're not happy that Alec eventually ends up with Kitty.]]
* SpiritualSuccessor: Has one in ''Anime/AshitaNoNadja'' - both anime are about an innocent, cheery blonde haired blue eyed girl travelling all over Europe [[SearchingForTheLostRelative finding their long-lost family]] using nothing but an OrphansPlotTrinket, though ''Sandybell'' is more focused on the adventures made along the way.
* SugarWiki/SuperlativeDubbing: The Arabic dub. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxH0237K7kk Here's the theme song]], if you're interested.
* SugarWiki/SweetDreamsFuel: Who watched the show growing up and ''didn't'' wish for a kind CoolBigSis like Sandybell?
* ValuesDissonance: While it could be because of the show's traditional hand-drawn art style, the few black characters [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e_97.png resemble]] Vaudeville-era {{Blackface Style Caricature}}s.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: The latter half of the anime focuses on criminal gangs, kidnappings, murders, {{Dark And Troubled Past}}s and all sorts of harsh themes. Some of the content was so graphic that the Italian dub [[Bowdlerise/HelloSandybell cut it out]], but many other international dubs (such as the Hungarian, Latin American Spanish, French and Arabic) didn't. That being said, the GrayAndWhiteMorality displayed by most characters keep things from getting too dark and depressing.
* TheWoobie:
** Sandybell started off as a happy child, [[spoiler:but after her father died her life took a turn for the worse]]. To make matters crueller, Mark runs away from home at the same time. She's left with no friends (except Oliver) in London and repeatedly encounters dead ends in her search for her mother, but despite this, she's endlessly heroic and selfless. [[spoiler: Ultimately, it is Sandybell's [[SpannerInTheWorks drive for sacrifice]] that unintentionally leads her to her mother.]]
** Mark Wellington. [[spoiler:His parents die in a car accident (and it's even speculated if it was an accident, because a lot of signs point to them being DrivenToSuicide as a result of losing their wealth)]], he becomes homeless, and his once WideEyedIdealist nature is broken. He sorely misses Sandybell, who inspired him to be free-spirited no matter what, and constantly thinks of her as he sleeps on the streets.
