* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler:[[NotSoHarmlessVillain Gohyan]][[note]]Also spelled Gohyaan and Gooyan[[/note]] initially just seems to be Akudaikahn's sly right-hand man that his other minions pick on. He starts to show his true colors when he takes Michiru and Kaoru back to Dark Fall while they're making their HeelFaceTurn, where they're seemingly killed. Gohyan later captures and tortures Flappy and Choppy for information. When the Pretty Cure defeat Akudaikahn, Gohyaan kills him and [[TheManBehindTheMan reveals he created Akudaikahn and Dark Fall]] to [[OmnicidalManiac destroy Earth and the Land of Fountains]], before turning the Earth into a wasteland. [[TimeAbyss Gohyan]] does all of this because he remembers the universe before it had any life and wants to return it to the silence it once was.]]
* EnsembleDarkHorse:
** Michiru and Kaoru. Most fans who enjoy this season cite them as the main reason.
** Kintolesky, amongst the Generals of Dark Fall, is also the most well-remembered and liked. Moerumba has a few fans as well.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** One of Saki's classmates and friends is named Yuko. Eight years later, [[Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure a character named Yuko becomes a Pretty Cure!]]
** Similarly, Saki has a sister named Minori. Fifteen years later, [[Anime/TropicalRougePrettyCure along comes a Cure named Minori!]].
* LesYay: [[HoYay/PrettyCure Enough for its own page.]]
* MemeticMolester: Or more precisely, Memetic Paedophile; in-series Saki's little sister Minori is the MoralityPet of Kaoru, whose protectiveness and affection then degraded into perverted jokes quickly in fanworks.
* MemeticMutation: [[Memes/PrettyCure See this page for examples.]]
* MoralEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Lord Akudaikahn condemning Michiru and Kaoru to a FateWorseThanDeath. Gohyaan got his when he captured and tortured Flappy and Choppi]].
* ReplacementScrappy: The most common complaint about this series. In just about every Precure poll, Saki and Mai rank amongst the lowest. Fortunately, [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap it didn't last long]] thanks to a combination of [[DivergentCharacterEvolution gaining their distinct personalities]] and getting their series VindicatedByHistory.
* ShockingMoments: A new key visual was released for the ''Anime/YesPrettyCure5'' distant sequel [[Anime/PowerOfHopePrecureFullBloom spinoff]], showing the adult appearances ''of this season's lead cures'', implying that it is not '''''just''''' a sequel to ''Yes!''
* TearJerker: Quite a few...[[spoiler: especially Michiru and Kaoru's "deaths" (two times!), and even an AlasPoorVillain moment for Kintolesky and Shitataare]].
* VindicatedByHistory: Back when this series first aired, it got quite a bit of backlash due to the lowered hand-to-hand combat elements compared to the previous series and feeling like too much of a retraux of the original. Nowadays, the series is seen with much more respect and is overall much more enjoyed, and it's given its due for introducing the now standard DarkMagicalGirl joining the heroines' side. The darker plot and the flight mechanics to mix the elements it introduced with some new hand-to-hand fights near the end may have something to do with it as well. It still has some detractors, though the hate is not as much or as volatile as it used to be.
