* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Nate's character when introduced in Season 2 is that he's a bookish, philosophical DeadpanSnarker who disdains tennis and got himself expelled from one tennis academy only to get stuck at another. He's also a glasses-wearing, skinny nerd. In Season 3, however, there had been a year-long filming hiatus at which point the actor had been playing adults and put on a lot more muscle. As a result, Nate's character in Season 3 is much more AwesomeEgo due to the actor's altered interpretation and physicality as well as the scripts making Nate a tennis player. There is one episode of CharacterCheck where Nate turns his back on tennis again, and it is his final episode.
* HamAndCheese: Between Squib and Rick's overracting, Bates' {{Freak Out}}s, Jesse's over-the-top Casanova act, and Sunny's borderline sociopathy, the show's ham factor was a major part of its appeal.
* HotterandSexier: Season 2 features a credits sequence that highlights Adena in a bikini and the formerly tomboyish Cody starts wearing sleeveless spaghetti strap tops instead of her Season 1 sweaters.
* ImplausibleHairColor: Cody's darkly reddish brown hair in the series premiere becomes increasingly pink as we move into Season 1 to the point of looking almost radioactive in how bright the red colour becomes due to a dye job (that doesn't reach the roots). At times, it becomes visually distracting. After the middle of the season, a subsequent dye job darkens the red colour. By the final episodes of Season 1, the red dye begins to fade out and revert back to dark reddish brown. In Season 2, Cody's hair has stabilized to a light reddish brown.
* TearJerker: The deaths of Megan and Sebastian, following the tragic [[TheCharacterDiedWithHim real life deaths of their actors]].
