No Mercy was an annual Wrestling/WWE pay-per-view event that was first held as an international event in May 16, 1999, and became an annual event in October 17, 1999. It was held every October until 2009. From 2003 to 2006, No Mercy became exclusive to the SmackDown brand. Following Wrestling/WrestleMania in 2007, it became tri-branded.

In 2009, No Mercy was discontinued and was replaced by Wrestling/HellInACell. After the second Brand Extension, No Mercy returned in October 2016 as a [=SmackDown=] pay-per-view, and became a Raw-exclusive pay-per-view the following year. However, in 2018, it was discontinued again as WWE reduced the amount of yearly [=PPV=]s held after they had ended the production of brand-exclusive [=PPV=]s following [=WrestleMania=] 34.

In 2023, No Mercy would be revived as an NXT}} NXT-exclusive event.

After that, Orton then burned the casket, which made it seem he won the overall feud until Undertaker's return a month later at Wrestling/SurvivorSeries.
* TheBusCameBack: Twice. The PPV event was brought back in 2016 after the second brand extension, only to be discontinued again after the 2017 event, and revived again for NXT in 2023.
* TheChewToy: Wrestling/TheUndertaker has lost six matches in this event(seven if you count the international event, though he wasn't pinned) (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008) and has only won one in 2001.
* EvilVersusEvil: The 2023 event from NXT has Bron Breakker and Wrestling/BaronCorbin, who are both heels. Though Corbin receives a babyface heat.

* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Wrestling/TheUndertaker challenged Wrestling/BrockLesnar to a Biker Chain match at No Mercy '03, but was defeated by him, though that was partially due to Wrestling/VinceMcMahon's interference.
* KillItWithFire: In the Casket match in the 2005 event, Wrestling/RandyOrton and Bob Orton locked Undertaker in the casket and hit it numerous times with an axe. They then poured gasoline on the casket and lit it on fire.
* LoserLeavesTown: The 2003 event featured the "I Quit" match between Vince and Stephanie [=McMahon=], which included two stipulations that really gave the "I Quit" match a whole new meaning: if Stephanie loses, she resigns as GM of Smackdown; if Vince loses, he has to resign as chairman of WWE.

* SquashMatch: Wrestling/BobbyLashley made his PPV debut flattening Simon Dean at the 2005 event, in a mere 1:56.
