''[[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/ College Catastrophe]]'' was a lighthearted SliceOfLife comedic UsefulNotes/{{Furry|Fandom}} Webcomic about college students, inspired by ''Webcomic/TheClassMenagerie'' and ''Webcomic/TheSuburbanJungle''. It started with a single freshman enrolling to college and gradually expanded the main cast to seven. Unlike its inspirations, it neither plunged into the depths of angst and exploration of alternative sexuality, nor there was any CarnivoreConfusion. There was no overarching plot, just day-to-day antics. The comic was active in 2000-02, slowed to a halt in 2003, published a total of 5 strips in 2004-2008, but picked up the pace again in 2009. In 2010-11 the author was mainly redrawing and reposting old strips, focusing on his other comic, ''Webcomic/SwordsAndSausages''. He decided to end the comic with graduation in 2013, when he ran out of gags accumulated from his time in university.

''[[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/ Nine to Nine]]'' continues a year after the graduation. The cast now have day jobs, which happened to bring them all to the same city. They are joined by an artist tigress of the same age. Besides the characters no longer being students and having more money, but less free time, little has changed. If you don't count color and occasional censored nudity.

The main characters are:
* Jan (full name Jan Lion, a lion) -- computer science major, art minor, then a programmer. AuthorAvatar. Often ButtMonkey.
* Wolf (full name Wolfram Wolf, a wolf) -- physics major and computer science minor, then physics postgraduate student. Jan's former roommate in college. Aspires to be a GadgeteerGenius and a MadScientist, but isn't very good at it.
* Phil (a horse) -- music minor, then a gym coach and music teacher. Jan's and Wolf's next door neighbor in the dorm. StraightMan and BigGuy.
* Amber (a vixen) -- major unknown, later became a stewardess. Jan's girlfriend currently living with him.
* Shiera (a lioness) -- Japanese major, then an elementary school teacher. Phil's girlfriend living with him.
* Tor (a tiger) -- fine arts major, currently makes a fantasy web video series.
* Andrea (an arctic vixen) -- Tor's partner in filmmaking and girlfriend. {{Cloudcuckoolander}} and ShrinkingViolet.
* Jessie (a tigress) -- an artist and a biker with a crush on Tor. Unfortunately, Andrea doesn't want to share.

* BunglingInventor: Wolf. He's incredibly smart and knows his way around tech... but should he actually apply his intellect, the results are invariably destructive in some manner.
* CallBack:

* ADogNamedDog: Wolf not only has a SpeciesSurname, his first name is "Wolfram" as well, making him a wolf named Wolf twice over. [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2020-04-26 While]] his dad is named Wolfred and his sisters are Wolfina and Wolfelicia (they prefer Fina and Steph), but his mom is named [[OddNameOut Caitlyn]].

* DunceCap: [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2002-03-23 Amber has to wear one made out of a traffic cone after beating Jan.]]
* {{Expy}}: Early on, Jan and Wolf bear some semblance with Tony and Kevin from ''Webcomic/TheClassMenagerie''.
* FurnitureAssemblyGag: [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2014-06-22 Starting here.]] Wolf eventually manages to assemble it and even makes it shoot cushions, calling it "Transformers for adults". Then he made a [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2014-11-30 surprise]] for when oscillations of Jan and Amber resonate with the couch.
* FancyToiletAwe: Tor installs a bidet on the toilet in his and Andrea's new house, unfortunately Andrea discovers that their tap water is ice-cold when she tests it out.
* FurryReminder: The comic will occasionally bring up various AnimalStereotypes to comedic effect:
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2000-12-16 Canines are reputed to drink from toilets.]]
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2001-02-03 Dogs chase cats up trees.]] Even if it's a small wolf and a bigger lion.

** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2009-11-15 Strings for fiddle bows are made of horsehair.]] Though, Phil objects using his tail for that.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2014-06-15 Foxes pounce on their prey.]] Or boyfriends.

** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2018-02-18 Catnip intoxicates cats.]]
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2018-06-10 Cats chase laser pointers.]] Apparently, so do foxes, too.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2018-07-15 Canine snarling and biting enemy's clothes.]]
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/ama-99 Coyotes have a reputation.]]
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/ama-105 Black cats are bad luck.]] Or so everybody thinks.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2018-08-19 Cats like boxes.]] Which later leads to creation of [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2018-09-23 feline-only "nap boxes"]].
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2022-04-03 Cats enjoy climbing curtains]].
* GirlsHaveCooties: Wolf, despite being a grown adult, has a strange phobia of girls with cooties. His sisters might have [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2020-09-13 something to do with it]].
* GratuitousIambicPentameter: [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2019-07-07 Hexameter, even.]] Andrea translating squeaks of a rubber mouse, that psychoanalyzes Jessie. Earlier Jessie scared Andrea so much, she couldn't speak coherently and only squeaked herself. Then other girls join in.
* GridPuzzle: When Steph transforms into her werewolf form, she not only gets bigger and shaggier but also a thirst for solving Sudoku puzzles. Unfortunately, she also becomes dumber, which makes the aforementioned task harder.
* IAmNotShazam: InUniverse. A real life example that uninformed managers call professional users of Adobe Illustrator "illustrators" when they mean "graphic designers". [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2015-03-15 Jessie can do both, but she isn't good enough at graphic design.]]
* IdeaBulb: Invoked, [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2001-02-11 when Wolf gets a questionable idea]]:
-->THIS WAS A WARNING LIGHT, NOT AN IDEA BULB. RETREAT TO A SAFE AREA '''NOW'''!
* InnocentBystander: [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2019-08-04 Lika, the cat thrown out of bar together with partying girls.]] She joins them in their subsequent antics.
* IntelligibleUnintelligible:
** Andrea often just makes nervous "squeak" sounds thanks to trauma inflicted by Jessie, but others often act like she's saying something intelligible. At one point she has [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2020-01-26 a full conversation with another arctic fox in squeaks]], suggesting it might actually be a language.
** Subverted when [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2022-07-10 Steph orders pizza]] in werewolf form, the pizzeria has a standing order for if unintelligible noises come from their number.
* InterspeciesRomance: Everybody. By the start of ''Nine to Nine'' Jan is with Amber (lion-fox), Phil is with Shiera (horse-lion), Tor is with Andrea (tiger-arctic fox). Jessie is frustrated and horny and jumps at every opportunity regardless of species. Wolf turns out to be a quarter-coyote.
* TheJinx: Much of the humor is generated by various home appliances -- from doors and beds to clocks and microwaves -- not working right. Jan is the primary target. Even though, being a programmer, he's neither a WalkingTechbane, nor HopelessWithTech.
* MotivationOnAStick: [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2001-01-13 Jan, cookies and homework.]]
* NoCanOpener: [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2002-08-25 Phil tried dropping the can from the 4th floor window. It didn't work.]]
* NoOSHACompliance[=/=]TooDumbToLive: Things Wolf does for fun.
** As if melting copper on a dining table and splashing the metal around wasn't bad enough, he then tries to [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2001-02-24 clean it off with explosives.]]
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2001-11-10 Literally "having a blast"]] disregarding every cooking recipe, every lab safety regulation and [[TooDumbToLive common sense]]. For him [[ButForMeItWasTuesday it was Saturday]].
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: Wolf's sister Steph undergoes a transformation on [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2022-06-12 full moon nights with lunar eclipse]]. She becomes bigger, heavier, dumber, unable to speak, hungry, and with an obsessive-compulsive passion to solve [[GridPuzzle sudoku]] puzzles. The rest of her family is unaffected. [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2022-06-26 During the eclipse]] she temporarily turns back to normal. [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2022-07-17 Her bite does not infect the delivery people.]]
* PerpetualPoverty: More or less a running gag in ''College Catastrophe'', somewhat downplayed in the sequel. Students never have enough money for textbooks and supplies, prices in the university town are unreasonable, and everybody's looking for ways to get cheap or free food.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Andrea [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2019-07-07 calls Jessie out]] on her attempts to insert herself between her and Tor, with help from [[ConsultingMisterPuppet a rubber mouse]].
* ShoutOut:
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2003-10-12 Professor]] [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2009-09-27 Durham]] looks a lot like Tony Durham from ''Webcomic/TheClassMenagerie''. Although, Tony wanted to be a medic, not teach math/physics/electronics/whatever else Wolf fails.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2012-04-01 April Fools crossover]] with ''Webcomic/ChivalryAndKnavery''.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2017-10-01 Tor and Andrea were having fun with sleeping Jessie.]] Her reaction refers to many "scenes of indescribable carnage" in ''WebComic/TheSuburbanJungle''.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2019-09-01 Girls painted themselves]] as [[VideoGame/StarFoxAdventures Krystal Fox]] and [[VideoGame/{{Okami}} Ōkami Amaterasu]] while Phil is [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash]].
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2019-10-13 A wardrobe]] opens to ''Swords and Sausages'' just like in ''Literature/TheChroniclesOfNarnia''.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2019-10-27 Amber breaking attic floor]] to "Ceiling Cat" memes.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2019-11-03 Acorns]] mean [[WesternAnimation/IceAge Scrat]]. Who, finally, manages to [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2020-01-19 demolish]] the house.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2020-03-15 The Tetri-Con storyline]] to furry conventions.
** The webcomics ''Webcomic/SlackWyrm'', ''[[Webcomic/TheSuburbanJungle The Suburban Jungle: Rough Housing]]'', ''Webcomic/FauxPas'', ''Webcomic/{{Freefall}}'', ''Webcomic/TheWhiteboard'' and ''Webcomic/{{Curtailed}}'' [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2020-06-07 are selling their wares at that convention]].
** The non-human cast of ''Webcomic/TheFuzzyPrincess'' [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2022-03-20 visiting an IDEA store]].
** Russel and Reg from ''{{Webcomic/Transmission}}'' [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2022-07-10 deliver pizzas]].
** Shiera [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2024-04-21 becomes co-workers]] with ''Webcomic/LaurenIpsum''.
* ShowWithinAShow: ''Webcomic/SwordsAndSausages'' is a series of web videos Tor and Andrea are filming. Although, the comic is more like a perfect version of what they wish to make rather than what their budget allows.
* ShrunkInTheWash: Recurring theme in early strips of ''College Catastrophe''. Freshmen don't have that many clothes, and losing them to a dryer is never pleasant. Then, there's a [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2001-03-24 storyline]], when Jan got stuck in a suddenly small T-shirt. Thick lion's mane didn't help.
* SliceOfLife
* SpeciesSurname: Common, as evidenced from [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2009-09-15 this partial list]] of Wolf's classmates. Later Jan and Phil [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2014-05-25 discuss]] that if an elementary school teacher Shiera (lioness) marries Phil Horse, it would be confusing for kids to call her "Mrs. Horse".
* SquashedFlat: [[https://www.tigerknight.com/cc/2001-10-27 Jan by Phil trying to open a stuck door.]]

* VeryFalseAdvertising: Apartment hunting.
** [[https://www.tigerknight.com/99/2014-08-17 Including ceilings and walls in "surface area".]]
