-> '''Father:''' ''Son, are you studying in there?''\
'''Son:''' ''Yes, of course Father, I'm always studying! [Son begins typing "sexy boobs" into his computer's search bar while laughing maniacally] Yes! Yes! YES!''\
'''Father:''' ''[barging in while cocking shotgun] STUDYING, ARE YOU!?''\
'''Son:''' ''NO, '''STOOOO--'''''
-->--'''"Son, are you studying in there?"'''

Created by the Youtube channel of the same name, Bread Boys is a series of videos about the everyday lives of a father son pair of knights. The general routine of each video will have Son acting in a way Father disapproves of, which is usually him watching anime or indulging in other forms of Japanese media, leading to Father punishing his son in excessive ways, usually with a shotgun.

The first video of this format was the third video on the Bread Boys Youtube channel, titled "Son, have you been reading heresy?". Riding off the popularity of Crusade memes at the time, the video went viral, currently holding over 9,000,000 views. The success of this video lead to the Bread Boys channel releasing more videos starring these characters, eventually evolving into an entire series of still ongoing and highly popular Youtube videos. The skits also became more varied, with changes such as showing Son's face (or mask really), and introducing new characters. The channel can be found [[https://www.youtube.com/@BreadBoys here]].

!Son, have you been editing the Tropes page?:

* AbusiveParents: Father, naturally. And it's implied Father's Father was the same. Naturally, it's always PlayedForLaughs.
-->'''Father:''' [[ComicallyMissingThePoint I can abuse you and get paid]]?!\
'''Son:''' No...sh-\
'''Father:''' Let's get to filming early!\
'''Son:''' [[BigNo NO]]! (''gets dragged out of bed screaming'')
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Father manages to pause ''VideoGame/CounterStrike'' while Son is playing it, despite Counter-Strike being an ''online'' game that cannot be paused. When Son confronts him about it, Father admits he doesn't really know how he did it outside of just "hitting the pause button".
* TheAgeless: How the family's immortality works, in addition to [[ResurrectiveImmortality coming back to life after a short amount of time after being killed]]; they've been around since the Crusades, and they're all remarkably spry and youthful, considering. It seems that the immortality they were given actively suppresses their aging rather than simply stopping it at the point where they got their powers, since in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kscPElNjRds this video]], where they inexplicably lose them, [[NoImmortalInertia both Father and Son's age catch up to them in a matter of seconds]].
* AnimalLover: Uncle is one of these when it comes to cats, going as far as to care for them over his own family.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking:
** In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFC4Vr4Jing Son, I'm Ending Humanity]]", Father's reasons for ending humanity are his declining mental health, the delayed Third Coming of Christ, and the fact that baked beans on toast are still served in England.
** In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AV4kTQNiVM Son, You're Going to Hell]]", Father cites Son dropping chicken nuggets as the action that started the list contributing to Son's damnation.
* BadassCape: Father sports one of these in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mr-zE1n4PS0 Father, I Want A Rematch]]" and "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKqmtMQqEoA Father vs Uncle | REMATCH]]".
* BadassFamily: Despite being an incredibly dysfunctional family, the Bread Boys are still an incredibly powerful family of knights with RealityWarper powers. Considering that they once fought alongside each other in the Crusades, one can only imagine what they're capable of together.
* BadLiar: A running gag for Son.
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]] by Father when he tells Uncle that Cousin Richard is taking the ears off of cats, when in reality all he did was supposedly take over Jerusalem.
* BaritoneOfStrength / PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep / VoiceOfTheLegion: Father's Father has one of these.
* BeenThereShapedHistory: Father casually doing time warps led him to nonchalantly shoot Archduke Ferdinand and cause WWI.
* BerserkButton:
** It's easier to list off all the things that ''don't'' make Father angry, but his more notable buttons include:
*** Being Son or Cousin Richard.
*** Anime (or anything Japanese for that matter).
*** Furries.
*** Food that isn't bread (with the exception of chicken nuggets). He seems to be growing out of this, though.
*** Threatening Jerusalem.
** Hurting cats is one of these for Uncle.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Despite having eccentric mannerisms like eating dice and staring at animals on the TV, Uncle delivers a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to Father in the very first video he appears in.
* BewareTheQuietOnes:
** Uncle rarely speaks in the videos he appears in but as stated in the entry above, he is more than capable of giving Father and Son a run for their money.
** In spite of his quiet demeanor, Father's Father proves himself to be more powerful than both of his sons. His first words on the channel are "I'm proud of you son, you almost ''scratched'' me", to ''Uncle'' of all people.
* BigBrotherBully: The flashbacks in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKqmtMQqEoA Father vs Uncle | REMATCH]]" imply that Uncle is one to Father.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: The premise of the entire channel is this.
* BloodKnight:
** Father, judging by his habit of frequently killing Son and by the HeroicBSOD he enters when the Crusades are cancelled. It also helps that he's an actual knight.
** Uncle and Father's Father also qualify, albeit they are less vocal about these tendencies than Father.
* BrainBleach:
** After discovering the true meaning of NSFW in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QchqWDNhVS4 Son, What is NSFW?]]", Father immediately rushes out of Son's room and sprays his eyes with water.
** In "Son What's Rule 34?", Father decides to search up [[Rule34 'bread boys rule 34']] on the computer. Cue the following exchange 5 microseconds later.
-->'''Father:''' They turned you into a woman!\
'''Son:''' I told you not to look!\
''(Father collapses in the bathtub)''
* CainAndAbel: [[ZigzaggedTrope Zigzagged]] with Father and Uncle. While they have killed each other on multiple occasions in the past, it doesn't stop them from teaming up every now and then.
* CallBack: In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AV4kTQNiVM Son, You're Going to Hell]]", some of the reasons Father provides for why Son is being damned are his poisoning of the water supply in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaLsvQwJfH8 "Son, I'M DROWNING"]], dropping a can on Father's head in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGxmI_Yz668 "Son, Get Pranked"]], becoming a Discord moderator in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osdXEohEuds "Son, What's a Discord Mod?"]] and dropping chicken nuggets in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70Z0PuWji2M "Son, YOU DROPPED THE NUGGIES"]].
* CartwrightCurse: Almost every e-girl or vtuber Son interacts with is killed off by Father, with the only exceptions being Emma, who delivers a brutal TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to Son before leaving him forever, and the 'Discord kitten' in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kxSHY7IXU8 Son, What's a Discord Kitten?]]", who was presumably killed by Uncle.
* CaughtWithYourPantsDown: In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MriYw3C2r8 Son What's ERP]]", Father walks into Son's room to find him dry-humping a pillow while wearing a VR headset. Son pauses and turns towards Father, only to continue immediately after Father closes the door.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Father was originally depicted as being a [[TheComicallySerious Comically Serious]] KnightTemplarParent while Son was the loony rebel that just wants to have fun. Later episodes would establish that Father is often just as insane, if not moreso than Son is, with the latter having attempting to reign him in from committing schemes that are too harebrained even for him.
* ChekhovsGun: The Weapon Door and the can of beans it offers return in "Son vs Cousin Richard pt 3".
* CompanionCube: Father's shotgun.
* DeathIsCheap: Father and Son have died several times yet they always manage to come back unharmed.
* ADickInName: Cousin Richard fits this trope to a tee.
* DidntThinkThisThrough:
** In "Son, It's Not That Bad", Father decides to strap a bomb to Son's chest with a 1-minute countdown to defuse it as a way of mocking him. As the bomb gets closer to exploding, Son points out that if he lets the bomb explode it's not just going to kill him, but also will destroy the entire house with it. Cue a panicked Father desperately trying to push Son out the front door before it's too late. [[spoiler:He doesn't succeed.]]
** A similar scenario happens in "Bread Boys Training Program", where Father once again straps a bomb to Son's chest and attempts to make Son defuse it. Unfortunately, Father doesn't take into account that Son doesn't know how to defuse a real bomb (having only done so in ''VideoGame/CounterStrike'') or the fact that he himself is colorblind. [[spoiler:It ends with Father cutting the wrong wire and blowing up the house once again.]]
** In "VOTE FATHER 2024", Father attempts to run a campaign for President of the U.S. Even ignoring his horrific policy ideas (such as bringing back trial by combat to justify fighting your own neighbors), Son points out that Father isn't a natural citizen of the U.S (having been born in Rome in the 1500s and moved to the U.S sometime during World War I), meaning he legally doesn't qualify for office. [[ShootTheMessenger He doesn't take this realization well]].
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXgV9HOj73Q Why I Was Banned From REALITY]]", Father takes away Son's ability to speak and later [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin bans him from reality]]. Son's response as soon as he regains the ability to speak?
-->'''Son:''' Go [[PrecisionFStrike fuck]] yourself!
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** Father frequently 'kills' Son for a variety of mundane reasons ranging from watching anime to wearing socks with thongs.
** This trope also serves as the premise for "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGxmI_Yz668 Son, Get Pranked]]".
** Happens twice in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx8mPkdcD8k Father, I Have A New Friend]]": once when Son shoots Father 40 times over an argument about pasta and later when Father shoots Son's friend for [[ContinuityNod ordering Hawaiian pizza]].
* DraggedOffToHell: Son's fate in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AV4kTQNiVM Son, You're Going to Hell]]". Somewhat downplayed by Father commenting "he'll back in ten minutes".
* TheDreaded: Although the Bread Boys have this reputation as a whole, Father is particularly notable in that his mere presence is enough to not only make entire armies surrender, but to make ''every'' world leader sign a peace treaty.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness:
** Earlier videos had Father and Son speaking in faint aristocratic accents, an aspect that was mostly abandoned in favor of speaking with their normal {{No Indoor Voice}}s.
** In his first few appearances, the voice of Father's Father had very little or sometimes no modulation at all when he spoke. Later appearances have him speak with a very deep VoiceOfTheLegion.
* EnemyMine: Father teams up with Cousin Richard in "Richard, Where Are My Waifus" to get rid of the waifus in Son's 'homework' folder.
* FlashStep: Most major characters in the Bread Boys universe are capable of this (possibly due to their immortality).
* FreakyFridayFlip: Happens in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPUH2_4JZq4 Son, What if Time Went Diagonal?]]".
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Cousin Richard. Even Son can't stand his presence despite their common interest in anime. That being said, Son is more than capable of fulfilling this role in Richard's absence.
* GunNut: Father almost always has a shotgun with him, which he is quick to use on Son whenever he does something wrong.
* GuyInRealLife: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZpO91pgCxg Son, I Got Catfished]]" where Father's 'trainee' turns out to be an attractive anime girl.
* HellBentForLeather: Ever since [[TheBusCameBack his return]] in "Father, Cousin Richard Has Returned", Cousin Richard sports a hooded leather jacket in every video he appears in.
* HeroicBSOD: On the rare occasion that he doesn't react with UnstoppableRage, Father tends to lapse into this.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: The entire Bread Boys family (except for Cousin Richard) is this, especially Father.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Son's attempt at de-fanging Father by messing with his guns in "Bread Boys But Son Can't Die" so he can do whatever he wants actually ends up working to the point that Father becomes a emotional wreck. If only for a little while because later Son accidentally let slip that Father still have his powers, the likes of which he kills Son with a finger gun.
* HollywoodAtheist: Cousin Richard is one of the 'smug intellectual' variant in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toGqdgBMkKU Son, What's an Atheist?]]".
* HolyHandGrenade: The myriad of powers the Bread Boys family has are explicitly said in a few videos to have come from God himself.
* ImplacableMan: In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YRUtWi5uB4 Uncle Caught in 4k]]", Son decides to show Uncle a picture of a catgirl to convince him to like anime. Uncle responds by going on a murderous rampage spanning entire ''countries''.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Son uses a can of beans in his fight against Cousin Richard. [[InsaneTrollLogic And it works]].
* INeedToGoIronMyDog: In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXcbmUnutek Son, What Is A Simp]]'', once he remembers what the word "simp" really means (after Son called him one for his obsession with Biblical documentaries, then gave him a very "polite" definition of it when Father asked), he says that he "overfilled the fish tank" and that "it's probably drowning" before leaving the room... and then charging right back in for a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown on Son.
* IntimidatingRevenueService: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrcIwODEdFs One episode]] has Son taking all of the family's life savings to try to pay the IRS, out of fear of what the organization will do to them if he doesn't. Unfortunately, unlike a certain [[ComicBook/TheJoker Clown Prince of Crime]], Father is [[FearlessFool both crazy and fearless enough]] to take on the IRS, and resorts to burning the money in their backyard to prevent Son from paying them. The next episode has the group sending agents to try to apprehend the Boys in retaliation for Father not paying his taxes.
* KillItWithFire: Father and Son's reaction to the furry Father unknowingly ordered from Craigslist.
-->'''Son:''' THIS IS A FURRY.\
'''Father:''' Get the hammer and nails.\
''(cue the furry burning while nailed to a cross)''\
'''Father:''' This is God's work. Let's go home.\
'''Son:''' Indeed.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0R9dxj29OQ Son, Did I Ask?]]" reveals that Father enjoys testing Grandfather's patience just as much as Son enjoys testing Father's.
* LoserProtagonist: Son, namely because of his utter failure with women and his constant abuse at the hands of Father (although these characteristics are mostly PlayedForLaughs).
* MadnessMantra: PlayedForLaughs In "Bread Boys but Father is off his meds", where Father repeatedly says "I HATE THE ANTICHRIST" (most likely in reference to [[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/i-hate-the-antichrist this meme]]).
* MagicKnight: Everyone in the Bread Boys family is this, combining physical combat and weapon training with things like immortality (via both [[TheAgeless agelessness]] and [[ResurrectiveImmortality a refusal to stay dead]]) and the ability to FlashStep, among other things. What makes them just this, rather than ThePaladin (considering they get their powers from God), is that they're much too [[BigScrewedUpFamily dysfunctional]] and [[BloodKnight overzealous]] to truly be the latter archetype.
* MediationBackfire:
** The ending of "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFR4hRZAbu8 Father, Where is Uncle?]]" has Son attempt to calm down both Father and Uncle, only for the two to nod to each other and turn their guns on him.
** In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vImmfxeo2ro Father's Father Returns]]", Father and Son try to break up a staredown between Uncle and Father's Father, only for Grandfather to snap Father's neck and team up with Uncle to kill Son.
* MissingMom: It is unknown what happened to Son's mother. In "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McdWxvocK00 Father, where is mother?]]",Father says to Son that she took everything.
* MissingStepsPlan: In "Uncle, We Have a Problem", Father and Son devise a plan to investigate Uncle's activities, culminating in a shootout before Father knocks him out. After restraining Uncle with some rope, Father admits that he didn't actually think they'd get this far, and so didn't plan anything beyond taking Uncle down.
* MoodWhiplash: Immediately after killing Father in the first video he appears in, Uncle throws his gun away and greets Son with a nonchalant "Hey, I'm Uncle". Notably, this has so far been the ''only'' time Uncle has ever spoken on the channel
* NoIndoorVoice: Father and Son almost always shout when they speak. When the former becomes silent however, it's a good sign that [[TranquilFury shit is about to hit the fan]].
* NoJustNoReaction: Father has one of these in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsUVgnXV3Oc Father, She Rejected Me]]"
-->'''Father:''' I'm not even going to waste any ammo on you. Just wallow in your own sorrows.
* NoodleIncident: In "Son, I Hate the Internet", Father attempts to delete the Internet because he saw something on Reddit involving "a man and a drill".
* OmnicidalManiac: Father becomes one of these in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFC4Vr4Jing Son, I'm Ending Humanity]]".
* OnlySaneMan: Son's friend in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx8mPkdcD8k Father, I Have A New Friend]]" is the only one who is (understandably) freaked out about Father and Son's eccentric behaviour and highly dysfunctional relationship.
* PalsWithJesus: [[DefiedTrope Defied]] in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM5E6Bu9jJQ Son, I Hate Facebook]]" when Son mentions that Jesus hates Father's guts.
* PersonalitySwap / SwappedRoles: Happens in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IwIxHz2QU4 Bread Boys but the roles are reversed]]".
* ThePowerOfFriendship: [[ExploitedTrope Exploited]] by Cousin Richard in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpmdMrXMirM Bread Boys get annihilated by the power of friendship]]".
* PutOnABus:
** After the events of "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toGqdgBMkKU Son, What's an Atheist?]]", Cousin Richard mysteriously disappears from the Bread Boys without any in-universe explanation provided. [[TheBusCameBack He returns]] 9 months later in [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "Father, Cousin Richard Has Returned"]], though.
** Both Uncle and Father's Father have stopped making appearances in videos due to Father and Son having moved to a different house in 2022.
* TheQuietOne: Both Uncle and Father's Father rarely speak in their appearances, making them far menacing and/or TheComicallySerious depending on the situation. They do occasionally say things, with Uncle having a regular voice, while Father's Father has a VoiceOfTheLegion with slight reverb added to it.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Both Father and Son (and by extension the entire Bread Boys family) have been alive since the original Crusades began (around the 12th century).
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Son finds himself on the receiving end of one of these in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsUVgnXV3Oc Father, She Rejected Me]]":
-->'''Emma:''' You know what Father? You're right. Son, I don't get paid enough for this.\
'''Son:''' Listen, okay? I'm not paying you at all.\
'''Emma:''' I hope both the sides of your pillow are warm tonight. Every sock in your room stands up straight on its own and it grosses me out. No woman in their right mind would even want to talk to you. I hope you get sand in your eyes. I hope you stub your toe on every piece of furniture in the house, you utter gremlin piece of shit. You make me sick to my stomach. You smell like blue cheese. I bet you like white Gatorade, you greasy ass bitch. [[MoodWhiplash Now, I hope you have a great day]]. (''she hangs up'')
* ResurrectiveImmortality: The entire family is immortal in-universe. Considering that Son dying is the series' signature RunningGag, it's clearly of this caliber, along with TheAgeless.
* TheReveal: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdaeHzK7QGU This video]] reveals that Son's real name is Chadicus.
* SanityBall / CastFullOfCrazy : The entire series may as well be Father and Son playing a game of football with the SanityBall. It only gets zanier when the other members of the Bread Boys family are involved.
* ShowWithinAShow: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv43ATxq-P8 Bread Boys: The Sitcom]]", starring [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Father as Father and Son as Son]].
* SmugSuper: Unlike Father and Son, Cousin Richard's ResurrectiveImmortality is instantaneous. Richard, [[ADickInName being Richard]], takes every opportunity to rub this fact in the duo's face.
* TakeThat: The premise of "Son, What is Clickbait?" is a jab at clickbait YouTubers as a whole, with Father particularly namedropping WebVideo/MrBeast.
* TemptingFate: Happens frequently to Son, with a couple of notable instances:
** In "Son, What is Clickbait?":
-->'''Father:''' Hey guys! Today, I'm gonna make peace with my son!\
'''Son:''' Oh really?\
'''Father:''' [[ILied No]].\
''(Father proceeds to [[MoreDakka shoot Son repeatedly]])''
** An example involving ''Father'' of all people happens in "Son, Help Me Bury This Body":
-->'''Father:''' What're you gonna do, shoot-\
''(cue Father being shot by police mid-sentence)''
* TheSpeechless: Bob.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain:
** Son dies in almost every single video. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ-KU1USg7M This video]] showcases some of these deaths.
** Despite not dying nearly as often as Son, Father has died enough times to have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHxY7hq94gQ an entire video]] tallying his various deaths.
* TotallyRadical: Father's use of acronyms to be "HWTK (Hip With The Kids)" in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QchqWDNhVS4 Son, What is NSFW?]]" comes off as this.
* ToxicFriendInfluence: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0dDg9SK3XE This video]] implies that Son's love of anime got started with Cousin Richard, who it seems was already dabbling in "heresy" for longer than Son.
* TrademarkFavouriteFood:
** Bread is this for Father, to the point where the mere ''suggestion'' of eating anything else enrages him (except for chicken nuggets).
** According to Father, breadcrumbs are these for Son.
* TrainingFromHell: According to Son, nobody has survived Father's training except him because of his immortality.
* UnstoppableRage: Son decides to show Uncle a picture of a catgirl. Uncle responds by grabbing Father's gun, storming outside and going on a destructive rampage spanning entire countries in a matter of minutes.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Father and Son frequently bicker with each other but are more than prepared to stand up for each other.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: In "Richard, Where Are My Waifus":
-->'''Father:''' Thank you very much, Richard. \
'''Son:''' [[EtTuBrute You were in on this]]?\
'''Father:''' That's one less loose end.\
''(Father proceeds to shoot Richard in the head)''
* YoutuberApologyParody: The 'apology' Father gives Son in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG8QVGzDUlM Son, I'm Sorry]]" is this, with the first two lines even being lifted from Logan Paul's apology script.

----
-->[-Son, are you reading TheStinger in there? Unacceptable! ''(loads shotgun)'' -]
-->[-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA- -]
