''My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Summertime Shorts'' is a short series set in the ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls'' world. They were released on Hasbro's official Website/YouTube channel and aired on Discovery Family throughout the summer of 2017 (except the last two).

The shorts are each between two to four minutes long and focus on SliceOfLife topics such as the moments leading up to the Fall Formal, Twilight doing science-y stuff, pep rallies, Monday mornings, and the girls' respective part-time jobs. They are divided between the "Canterlot Shorts" and Official {{Music Video}}s.

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hheuTZd8eWw "Make Up Shake Up"]] (Canterlot Short #1) – Rarity gets carried away while doing Applejack's makeup for the Fall Formal.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPmOz8l12Wk "A Photo Booth Story"]] (Canterlot Short #2) – Photo Finish has the girls do crazy stunts to liven up her picture-taking at the Formal.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLM4APNrzp0 "Raise This Roof"]] (Canterlot Short #3) – Applejack and Apple Bloom challenge Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo to a dance-off at the Formal.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-JPzj_la7c "Steps of Pep"]] (Canterlot Short #4) – Pinkie Pie recruits Fluttershy to help cheer on the teams at Canterlot High -- some of which need the encouragement a lot less than others.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gn_BYOTmqo "Epic Fails"]] (Canterlot Short #5) – The seven girls recall their most embarrassing moments.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLlzEeyQXJo "Mad Twience"]] (Music Video) – Twilight Sparkle works on a secret science project.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmhifH1Wx8k "Monday Blues"]] (Music Video) – Sunset Shimmer and Twilight try (and fail) to stay dry on a rainy trip to school.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xvadfuntmo "Pet Project"]] (Canterlot Short #6) – Fluttershy helps Sunset Shimmer pick out a pet of her very own.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0Xr7-sV3u8 "Subs Rock"]] (Canterlot Short #7) – Principal Celestia has a hard time juggling her regular duties with being a substitute teacher.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiebgcDjqw4 "Shake Things Up!"]] (Music Video) – Applejack gets creative mixing fruit shakes.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_TSxi90a04 "The Art of Friendship"]] (Canterlot Short #8) – Pinkie looks everywhere for inspiration on a school art project.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSNIfyw0Mhc "The Canterlot Movie Club"]] (Canterlot Short #9) – The CMC ([[MeaningfulRename Canterlot Movie Club]]) go on a mission to rescue Gummy and still make it to the ''Daring Do'' movie on time.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdJlDU1dKSM "Get the Show on the Road"]] (Music Video) – Before the Rainbooms can go on tour, they have to fix up a decrepit school bus found by Applejack and Big Macintosh.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0Yd-FUNs7s "Leaping Off the Page"]] (Canterlot Short #10) – Rainbow Dash's imagination runs away with her as she reads the latest ''JustForFun/DaringDo'' novel.
* "Coinky-Dink World" (Music Video) – Pinkie Pie tries to encourage romance between two bookworms while working at a '50s-themed diner.
* "Good Vibes" (Music Video) – A chain of good deeds brightens a bad day for the Rainbooms and their friends at the Canterlot Mall.

!!The Summertime Shorts provides examples of:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:General]]
* EpisodeTitleCard: Like the previous shorts linked to a movie, all of these shorts have unique, lavish title cards.
* SliceOfLife: Each episode being quite short and self-contained, they stir away from the usual supernatural shenanigans of the other shows in the series, focusing instead on cute slice-of-life moments with minimal teen drama.
* StorybookOpening: The first three Canterlot Shorts start with a Canterlot High yearbook opening to the first scene of the story. Fitting since those three shorts are happening in the past of the series, compared to the other shorts set in the "present".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Make Up Shake Up]]
* BitingTheHandHumor: Applejack's UncannyValleyMakeUp seems to be a TakeThat at the early EQG toys.
* FauxHorrific: Applejack's rather over-the-top reaction to Rarity's make-over includes WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises, a bit of PsychoStrings, and a threatening black and red background.
* {{Interquel}}: This short is set during the "This Is Our Big Night" sequence from the first film, where the girls are preparing for the Fall Formal.
* MakeoverMontage: Rarity partakes in one when making over Applejack.
* MidBattleTeaBreak: While Rarity is making over Applejack, she briefly stops to have a cup of tea.
* RedFilterOfDoom: The background becomes black with red, glowing stripes when Applejack sees Rarity's makeup work.
* StaggeredZoom: Applejack's reaction is accompanied with three successive close-ups to her horrified face.
* UncannyValleyMakeUp: A bit downplayed in that it's not '''that''' awful, but Applejack is seriously horrified at the results of Rarity's make-over.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:A Photo Booth Story]]
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Pixel Pizazz is present in this short, despite her formal debut being in ''Rainbow Rocks'' as she was nowhere to be seen in the original Fall Formal taking place in the first movie.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Pixel Pizazz takes the role (again) of Photo Finish's assistant, like in "[[WebAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsFriendshipGamesShorts Photo Finished]]". And she seems to have her hands full containing her friend's exuberance, notably narrowly catching the camera Photo Finish offhandedly tosses at the end of the photo shoot before it'd hit the floor.
* BlindShoulderToss: Photo Finish seems to have an habit of tossing things, as she does it first with a drink bottle, and then with ''her own camera'' (which is thankfully caught by Pixel Pizazz). You'd think a photographer like her would take better care of her equipment.
* GratuitousGerman: Photo Finish yells out a "nein" during a burst of {{rapid fire no}}s.
* {{Interquel}}: Takes place during the first film's Fall Formal, ostensibly before the final battle (note the girls aren't yet ponied up).
* MythologyGag: Rarity briefly dons a pair of large, shimmering butterfly wings that are almost set on fire, Ă  la "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E16SonicRainboom Sonic Rainboom]]" (once again, Rainbow Dash saves her just in time), and Princess Twilight and Pinkie dress up like the stereotypical depiction of Sherlock Holmes and Watson -- things that recall episodes of ''Friendship Is Magic''.
* RapidFireNo: When Photo Finish's boredom reaches its peak, she yells a string of "nos" in response to the rather bland picture of the Mane Six.
* ShoutOut: Rainbow Dash at one point briefly dons a mask that wouldn't look out of place in a {{tokusatsu}} show (such as ''Ultraman'').
* SuddenAnatomy: Fingernails aren't usually drawn in ''Equestria Girls'', but Photo Finish's thumbnail is visible when she holds the Crusaders' picture.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Raise This Roof]]
* CrazyPrepared: Pinkie has a trophy stashed just in case of sudden, epic dance-offs.
* DanceOff: One ensues between Applejack and Apple Bloom vs. Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo, although it quickly degenerates into just Applejack vs. Rainbow Dash, with Apple Bloom and Scootaloo pushed aside. [[spoiler:They join forces and upstage their sisters]].
* ADayInTheLimelight: It can be seen as this for both Apple Bloom and Scootaloo, despite them not having any dialog; they have a fairly large role alongside their sister and sister figure, respectively.
* {{Interquel}}: The last of the shorts to take place during events of the first film -- during the Fall Formal, of course.
* {{Hammerspace}}: As Pinkie Pie pulls a trophy out of nowhere, Twilight actually asks her where she stashed that.
* MythologyGag: Pinkie having a trophy just in case of epic dance-offs brings to mind a similar gag with Pony Pinkie Pie having secret emergency stashes of random things such as eyepatches in "It's About Time", in case of eyepatch (or whatever) emergency.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Steps of Pep]]
* AllCheeringAllTheTime: This episode has Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy cheering at random times.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mad Twience]]
* TheEighties:
** Both the plot and title are takes on the movie ''Film/WeirdScience''.
** The song is in the style of an '80s pop song (like early ''Music/{{Madonna}}'' or ''Music/DebbieGibson'').
** The title card is in the style of '80s sci-fi.
* BaitAndSwitch: At first it seems like Twilight might be building something -- possibly a robot -- modeled after her LoveInterest, Timber Spruce. She's actually building a robot puppy friend for Spike to play with.
* BlindShoulderToss: Twilight discards a non-functioning piece of equipment behind her back in frustration. Naturally, it starts blinking rapidly before exploding.
* EvilLaugh: On the title card, Twilight stands by a doorway while laughing maniacally (or so it seems; it's not animated).
* {{Homage}}: To ''Frankenstein'', what with the architecture of Twilight's house resembling Frankenstein's castle, Twilight's mad scientist outfit and Spike as TheIgor, Twilight creating a RobotDog brought to life with electricity, and the threatening thunderstorm going on while this happens. The story itself is a child-friendly AdaptationDistillation of ''Film/BrideOfFrankenstein'', with the robot dog in the role of the Bride.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: Between the visuals and some lines in the song, it's implied Twilight's crush on Timber Spruce tends to make her distracted at times.
-->'''Twilight Sparkle:''' ''[as a silhouette of Timber and Twilight appear together]'' Sometimes my thoughts are drifting faraway / Gotta pull them back, can't let get them go astray
* NonFatalExplosions: During the building montage, a discarded machinery piece explodes behind Twilight, but all it does is cover her labcoat in soot.
* RobotDog: Twilight is eventually revealed to be making a friend for Spike instead of a duplicate of Timber at the end of the song.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: On the title card, both Twilight's glasses and Spike's goggles reflect the light.
* ShipTease:
** Human Twilight has a picture of Timber Spruce on her desk and fantasizes about him at one point.
** Spike and the robot dog nuzzle at the end.
* ShoutOut:
** The title is a pun on the franchise [[http://www.madscience.org Mad Science]] and the title card artwork is based on their logo.
** The robot comes out of a pod looking like the teleporter from ''Film/{{The Fly|1986}}''.
* SpellingSong: "So P-E-R-F-E-C-T, let me solve this mystery."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Monday Blues]]
* CrazyPrepared:
** Twilight has two umbrellas on her person, which proves handy when the first one gets torn off her hands by the wind.
** Rarity is seen at her locker with a bag filled with all sorts of cosmetic appliances, such as a hair curler. She's too messy -- and too stressed -- for them to be of any help.
* CueTheRain: Sunset and Twilight stand at their respective houses' doorsteps, with Twilight taking note of how it's a very nice morning. Then it starts pouring just a few seconds later.
* CuteKitten: Amidst many obstacles, Sunset stops for a few seconds to pet a kitten laying in a cardboard box.
* IdiosyncraticWipes: A few original transitions are used according to the situation, like with screen wipes using Twilight's toothbrush, Twilight blowing her hair, Sunset's coffee cup, and Twilight's umbrella that was blown away by the wind earlier.
* ImpactSilhouette: Rainbow Dash leaves an imprint of her silhouette after impacting the lockers at SuperSpeed. She doesn't go through them, however.
* InterclassFriendship: The perspective switch between Sunset's and Twilight's respective morning routines at their homes shows that they have quite a contrast going on: Sunset has a cozy but smallish two-story home, sparsely furnished and with things such as a microwave oven and minifridge (with no proper stove really visible). Twilight's room is immense, and she lives in a BigFancyHouse befitting such a big fancy bedroom. Justified because Twilight most likely still lives with her parents, while Sunset, coming from Equestria, doesn't have parents in this dimension and has to pay for her flat while still going to school.
* MessyHair:
** Twilight and Sunset both wake up with severe bedhead, Sunset in particular having her hair going sideways. Twilight quickly fixes hers with a hairdryer and comb, while Sunset, already running late, doesn't even bother. The rain straightens hers out when she steps outside.
** When they get to school, they find Rarity with rollers still in her hair trying to fix her makeup, Fluttershy has a bird's nest in hers, and Pinkie Pie inverts it by having her usual puffy hair completely flat.
* NoodleIncident: The short focuses on Twilight's and Sunset's efforts to get to school in time during a particularly bad Monday morning. At the end, we get to see that the rest of the girls didn't have much better luck; in particular, how Fluttershy ended with a bird's nest -- with a live bird -- stuck in her hair and how Rarity ended as a literal crying mess is left to the imagination (though Rarity can be interpreted as having dried her hair from the rain and trying to restyle it).
* NotAMorningPerson: Sunset Shimmer, befitting her name. She oversleeps and ends running late to school while there's a thunderstorm going on.
* RingRingCRUNCH: Downplayed. Sunset slaps the snooze button on her alarm clock several times, and numerous cracks in the casing suggests she's rough with it on a regular basis.
* RoadsideWave: Twilight thinks she can stay dry from the rain thanks to her umbrella, but gets splashed by a roadside wave from the school bus. And then she misses said school bus.
* RuleOfFunny: Sunset falls ''waist deep'' in a puddle on the sidewalk, and in her next scene, gets chased by a ''poodle''.
* SplitScreen: The screen is split in two to show both Sunset and Twilight waking up, them exiting their houses, checking their phones for the time, and then arriving at school. The split recesses when they both reach the statue socle at the same time.
* TooFastToStop: Happens again to Rainbow Dash, as in ''Legend of Everfree'', when she's running late for school at super speed because of the rain, ending up slamming into the lockers at CHS.
* WhenItRainsItPours: Literally the first time in animated ''Equestria Girls'' media that it rains -- and it's a heavy rain that turns into a thunderstorm and keeps growing worse as time goes by. Poor Sunset Shimmer, Twilight, and implicitly the rest of the girls have to make their way through it.
* YourMakeupIsRunning: Poor Rarity is seen at school as an absolute mess -- and she's crying hysterically as she tries in vain to fix up her messy appearance.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pet Project]]
* CompanionCube: Pinkie's pet, Gummy the alligator, is just a stuffed toy.
* CompressedAdaptation: Fluttershy's role here is much shorter and less wacky than her pony counterpart singing "Find a Pet" in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E7MayTheBestPetWin May the Best Pet Win]]".
* CutenessProximity: Sunset has this reaction to all of her friends' pets, as well as Ray, the leopard gecko she eventually picks as her own pet.
* FluffyDryCat: Winona becomes suddenly fluffy after Fluttershy dries her off. The dog is a bit surprised, but it doesn't alter her mood much.
* LoveAtFirstSight: A non-romantic example occurs when Sunset Shimmer spots Ray, her leopard gecko pet. It comes complete with a big smile and a background of red hearts.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: Gummy is included in the pet photo shoot, even though he's [[CompanionCube just a stuffed toy]] in the ''Equestria Girls'' universe.
* UncattyResemblance: Briefly teased with the fish sharing Sunset Shimmer's hair color, but she doesn't choose it as a pet in the end.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Subs Rock]]
* ADayInTheLimelight: The short stars Principal Celestia.
* ExactWords: At the end of the short, Principal Celestia says there will be no further interruptions. She is right, because the class ends immediately after she says this.
* IrisOut: The short ends with a black iris closing on an exasperated Celestia.
* NoodleIncident: We only see the source of one of the interruptions (Rainbow Dash kicking a soccer ball). The cafeteria crisis appeared to be quite messy.
* RapidFireInterrupting: Every time Principal Celestia gets back to the classroom and attempts to begin her lesson, she's interrupted by yet another crisis that requires the school Principal.
* NewhartPhoneCall: The final interruption comes from the classroom's phone ringing. When Celestia picks it up, the other side of the conversation is unintelligible.
* SeriesContinuityError: The short is set after ''Friendship Games'' (since human Twilight Sparkle is a student at CHS), and yet the Wondercolt statue that was destroyed at the end of the movie is seen intact. Other shorts show the statue's socle still being empty.
* TwitchyEye: Principal Celestia gets more and more frustrated with each interruption, as seen by her eye twitch, but she never loses her composure.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Art of Friendship]]
* AnimalReactionShot: The three birds startled by Pinkie's birdie disguise have hilariously puzzled expressions.
* CoveredInGunge: When Pinkie finally figures out what she wants to paint, she starts spraying paint absolutely everywhere as she hurls comically oversized amounts of it at her canvas, drenching her classmates and even hitting other people's artwork. By the time she's done, Sunset has a thick layer of paint on her head and all over her clothes. Pinkie even gets a few globs on herself, and then gets some more when Sunset hugs her while still coated in paint.
-->'''Pinkie:''' Ta-da! I painted ''you'', Sunset!\
'''Sunset:''' Yes, Pinkie. Yes you did.
* EyeRecall: Pinkie experiences one when she is being struck with inspiration from Sunset's painting.
* LiteralMinded: After Sunset tells Pinkie that she must let the "creative juices" flow, Pinkie heads to the cafeteria to ask Granny Smith for said juices to drink.
-->'''Pinkie:''' Are you sure these are the creative juices?
* LotusPosition: Pinkie gets into this meditative pose in a tree in order to get some inspiration in nature.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Shake Things Up!]]
* FlairBartending: AJ shows her skills at drink-making (especially new recipes), as well as working with the drink cups.
* ShoutOut: To ''Cocktail''.
* StealthPun: As Applejack sings "Drop the beat now", she drops some chopped beets into a row of blenders. She also pauses at the beginning from cutting apples when picking up a beet... in other words, a beet causes a {{beat}}.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Epic Fails]]
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Rainbow Dash gets distracted at her job with a soccer ball the moment she gets her feet on it. This leads to trouble.
* ContinuityNod: Fluttershy's epic fail involves birds coming to "style" her hair; a less embarrassing version had happened in the first film during the "This Is Our Big Night" montage.
* DisneyCreaturesOfTheFarce: In the scene with Fluttershy's epic fail, she's visited by some birds who land on her and then mess with her hairstyle.
* DoomedSupermarketDisplay: Rainbow Dash's epic fail is dooming a soccer ball pyramid display at her job in a sporting goods store.
* DoubleTake: The CHS student passing by Fluttershy on a skateboard does a double-take at the sight of her failed hairdo. The distraction is enough to have him crash into a lamppost.
%%* EpicFail: The whole premise of the short, ''it's even in the title for crying out loud!''%% Still zero-context.
* MythologyGag: Twilight's epic fail greatly resembles the "Adventures at Canterlot High -- Sci-Twi's Lab" ''Equestria Girls Minis'' short, as both have more or less the same set-up: Twilight screws up a chemistry experiment for one reason or another and ends covered in a purple substance.
* NonVerbalMiscommunication: Sunset Shimmer does increasingly outrageous gestures to warn Rarity that she has a piece of lettuce stuck in her teeth. Rarity believes that Sunset is greeting her or being playful, and can only look bewildered as Sunset resorts to chewing one of the library's potted plants' leaves (this being Sunset's epic fail). Rarity still doesn't get it, leading to her own epic fail.
* NoodleIncident: The funny story Applejack is telling Pinkie Pie, where... '''something''' happened in the barn, causing Granny to rush outside hollering and Big Mac swatting lots of flies. It gets them both distracted long enough for their pies to burn in the oven, causing the fire sprinkler to go off.
* {{Slapstick}}: For the final epic fail, the girls all blunder on to a wet floor and collapse on top of each other, with sound effects straight out of ''Franchise/ScoobyDoo''. They laugh it off.
* YourMakeUpIsRunning: Not Rarity for once, but Pinkie Pie after getting drenched by a fire sprinkler.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Canterlot Movie Club]]
* CompanionCube: The plot -- the CMC look for Gummy, Pinkie's missing alligator plush doll -- starts because Pinkie brought Gummy to the movie theater to watch his favorite film together, but misplaces him while buying food. Pinkie is very distraught at having lost her friend, and the CMC take their task seriously.
* ContinuityNod: The CMC are at Canterlot Mall's movie theater to watch the latest ''Daring Do'' film -- whose production was saved by their big sisters and friends in "Movie Magic".
* ADayInTheLimelight: For the human counterparts of the Cutie Mark Crusaders -- although these girls are the eponymous "Canterlot Movie Club" instead.
* MeaningfulRename: Being from another dimension with no cutie marks means that "CMC", instead, stands for "Canterlot Movie Club".
* MundaneMadeAwesome: The CMC treat looking for a missing Gummy in the movie theater as an epic ''Daring Do'' level quest, and Scootaloo certainly takes the crane game to get him back seriously.
* RewatchBonus: InUniverse, the ''Daring Do'' film from "Movie Magic" apparently has so many that it still feels fresh for the CMC even after having watched it five times already (and they're going to watch it for a sixth!).
* ScaryFlashlightFace: Both Pinkie and Sweetie Belle indulge in this while discussing Gummy's whereabouts. In particular, that the CMC will save him from '''mortal peril'''.
* UnnecessaryCombatRoll: The CMC gratuitously rolls to move around the theater while looking for Gummy, ignoring the puzzled looks of the employees.
* VisibleOdor: The CMC even look through the theatre's garbage pail for Gummy, but they cringe away from the smell, which is figured by green fumes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Leaping Off the Page]]
* AdventurerOutfit: Rainbow Dash as Daring Do wear the usual safari shirt and pith helmet in the ImagineSpot. Although the bared midriff and short skirt don't look very fitting for traipsing in the jungle -- almost giving the feel that she had gone through an ActionDressRip or similar WardrobeMalfunction earlier in the story.
* ContinuityNod: A few in Rainbow Dash's bedroom.
** Her iconic electric blue guitar can be seen in the background.
** The picture from the pet photo shoot in "Pet Project" is taped to the wall behind her bed.
** The first picture Photo Finish took in "A Photo Booth Story" is framed and on her dresser, near her bed. Another pic from that short is taped on the wall besides her bed. There are at least two other pictures with the girls in their Fall Formal outfits, although it's hard to make out from what short/film/etc. they come from.
** She also has a picture of herself at the soccer match featured in "Steps of Pep".
* CrashingDreams: Rainbow Dash gets so wrapped up in the book she's reading that a honking car horn, her cell phone ringtone, and knocking on her door get integrated into the story.
* ImagineSpot: Basically the whole short takes place in this, with Rainbow Dash imagining herself in place of Daring Do while reading one of her adventures.
* RecycledSoundtrack: The music from the Stalwart Stallion opening scene of "[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsMagicalMovieNight Movie Magic]]" is reused during Rainbow Dash's ImagineSpot here.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Get the Show on the Road]]
* TheAllegedCar: The old bus Applejack finds for the Rainbooms to use as a tour bus is in a sorry state, covered in dents and scratches and filled with debris and old branches. It's a wonder it didn't fall apart until after Big Macintosh got it to Canterlot High.
* ATeamMontage: There are some aspects of this trope with the Rainbooms' work on the bus, notably each of them using their respective powers to fix it, and numerous close-ups on the reparation, along with SplitScreen.
* ContinuityNod: Rainbow Dash is seen wearing her "Dance Magic" outfit -- the improved version used in the music video -- while rapping.
* CoveredInGunge: As Applejack lifts the bus with her SuperStrength, Rainbow Dash works on the underside, causing an oil leak to spray on her head, covering it in black goo.
* {{Facepalm}}: A FunnyBackgroundEvent; Big Mac facepalms when the bus finally collapses.
* MundaneUtility: Most of the Rainbooms make use of their special powers in their efforts to repair the bus.
* MusicalChores: This short as the Rainbooms working to fix up an old school bus to use as a tour bus.
* MythologyGag: The family of raccoons that Fluttershy discovers under the bus' hood looks like the ones from "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS6E10TheSaddleRowReview The Saddle Row Review]]".
* RearingHorse: The repaired bus features a silver rearing horse as a hood ornament.
* SplitScreen: The screen is split in no less than nine panels to show the quick progress of the bus' fixing-up.
* AWildRapperAppears: In a similar vein to Pinkie Pie with the "Dance Magic" song, but with Rainbow Dash as the rapper.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Coinky-Dink World]]
* AllThereInTheScript: Merchandise identifies the MaltShop where Pinkie Pie works as "The Sweet Snacks Café".
* AscendedExtra: They aren't named nor given dialogue, but the focus of the short is Pinkie trying to hook up two teenagers -- who were last seen in ''Friendship Games'' as background Crystal Prep students. Naturally, they get to do a lot more than fill a crowd in this short.
* CallBack: Pinkie seems to be able to make sprinkles explode without even trying. ''Legend of Everfree'' introduced her "make sugar explode" power with sprinkles, which she weaponized. A burst of PowerIncontinence while handling sprinkles is what causes the two teens she's been playing matchmaker for to notice each other.
* CardiovascularLove: Plenty of {{Heart Symbol}}s are used in the short to illustrate its matchmaking theme. Notably, Pinkie sees the boy and girl framed by a glittering heart, before getting heart-shaped WingdingEyes.
* CommonalityConnection: The unnamed boy and girl finally catch each other's eye when they notice they're reading the same book.
* ContinuityNod: Pinkie Pie was shown as knowing how to skate in ''Friendship Games''. Turns out she works as a rollerskating waitress in a retro MaltShop.
* DanceOfRomance: An older couple can be seen dancing together by the jukebox, and Pinkie's first attempt at hooking up the two CP students involves getting them to dance together. They're both too timid to try. [[spoiler:At first. By the end of the short they share a dance together]]. Unlike most examples of the trope, the dance is fast-paced, what with this being a '50s style MaltShop.
* DoubleDate: Pinkie Delivers a milkshake with two straws (and only one other drink) to what appears to be this with what is possibly two same-sex couples; At the table is Lyra and Bon Bon opposite Wiz Kid and Curly Winds, two background humans. While the former two are well known fan pairing (with a few hints from the staff it might be true) the latter two have been shown to have grown quite close since the original movie.[[labelnote:Examples]] Curly steadies a ladder for Wiz in the first movie, and after that they have often appeared together in ambiguously romantic situations: They appear in the crowd in the battle between the Rainbooms and The Dazzlings with Curly having his arm around Wiz (and a staff member claiming them as "Their favorite couple" in the commentary). Lastly the deleted duet version of "What More Is Out There" shows them walking together hand in hand, while the final movie shows them sitting together during the CHS rally song[[/labelnote]] Here Curly is sitting watching Wiz talk with his chin resting on both hands while both are wearing nicer then normal outfits.
* FingerFraming: Pinkie frames between her fingers first the two teenagers, and then the elderly couple dancing, as she gets her first matchmaking idea.
* FlowersOfRomance: Pinkie's second brave attempt involves making it seem like the guy is giving flowers to the girl. It seems to work until the girl's allergies kick in.
* HandBehindHead: When the boy and the girl first bump into each other at the start of the short, the girl shyly rubs the back of her head.
* IrisOut: The closing iris is shaped like a heart, naturally.
* MaltShop: Where Pinkie Pie works, and thus where the short takes place. It has a jukebox, records hanging from the walls, serves hamburgers and milkshakes, and the waitresses have rollerskates. It seems very popular among modern-day teens, but it is to be noted that there are also a few middle-aged couples around.
* TheMatchmaker: The plot has Pinkie Pie plays matchmaker for two unnamed Crystal Prep students.
* OhCrap: Pinkie's face when she notices her sprinkles are explosive -- as they fall onto her giant ice cream. Oops.
* PowerIncontinence: Pinkie's third and final attempt to get them together involves creating a massive ice cream. Unfortunately, while adding the finishing touches -- that is, sprinkles -- she ends making it explode spectacularly. This is what leads to the two noticing they're reading the same book. Although it's rather worrying that Pinkie makes the sprinkles explode without her AmuletOfConcentratedAwesome.
* ShipperOnDeck: Pinkie Pie throughout the short tries to turn the pair of nerds into a couple.
* SneezeOfDoom: Of a sort; Pinkie presents the girl with flowers from a nearby vase -- while hiding to make her think the guy in the booth behind her is interested. The girl is flattered, goes to smell them... and sneezes hard enough to spill the vase, flowers and water and all, onto the oblivious boy.
* SweetheartSipping: A good chunk of the milkshakes served in the diner have two sipping straws, including one Pinkie delivers to a possible DoubleDate (along with only one other drink).

* AscendedExtra: Flash Sentry play a critical role in this short, as his NiceGuy tendencies is what kickstarts the chain of good deeds. And this is after getting [[DemotedToExtra demoted]] in the movies.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: Sunset ruffles Flash's hair to get his attention, before offering him lunch.
* AmicableExes: Sunset Shimmer shares her bento with her ex-boyfriend Flash Sentry.
* BlindShoulderToss: When Rainbow offers her new shoes, Sunset discards her broken sandal over her shoulder.
* DodgyToupee: Fluttershy's act of kindness towards Bulk Biceps is giving him a squirrel from her shelter, which quietly curls itself on his bald head, mimicking a gigantic toupee. He loves it.
* DoomedSupermarketDisplay: Rainbow Dash sets up a pyramid of shoe boxes at her job. Cue the CMC rushing by while carrying a canoe -- they hit the base of the pyramid and it starts to collapse. Luckily for Rainbow Dash, Rarity is at her own job nearby and throws a gem shield to stop it.
* KarmicJackpot: NiceGuy Flash Sentry takes the time to help Trixie, who he previously argued with during ''Rainbow Rocks'', and the chain of acts of kindness this created eventually works its way back to him when Sunset offers him lunch and is joined by the rest of her friends, even Twilight.
* MundaneUtility: Rainbow Dash uses her super speed to quickly set up a pyramid of shoe boxes at her job. Twilight uses her telekinesis to easily repair DJ Pon-3's turntable.
* NiceGuy: Everyone helping each other all started with Flash Sentry taking time to help Trixie.
* PetTheDog: Prior to ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsForgottenFriendship Forgotten Friendship]]'', Trixie's largest roles in the ''Equestria Girls'' franchise generally had her as an antagonist. Here, however, after being helped by Flash Sentry, she goes and helps Fluttershy find her missing bunny (by pulling it from her hat).
* PowerIncontinence: Pinkie suffers again from this, accidentally making a pair of cupcakes explosive when she trips at the mall. The cupcakes fall on Bulk Biceps' hat, literally blowing it away.
* PrematurelyBald: Poor Bulk Biceps -- implied to be a student roughly the girls' age -- hides the fact the top of his head is entirely bald (the back remains fairly long) with his baseball cap. When Pinkie accidentally and literally blows his cap away with a pair of explosive cupcakes, he's driven to tears.
* PullARabbitOutOfMyHat: Fluttershy puts up missing posters for her pet Angel Bunny. Trixie casually pulls Angel out of her hat and hands him over.
* ShipTease: Sunset sharing a sushi lunch with Flash can be seen this way via ThroughHisStomach but it could just as easily be a friendly gesture.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Flash Sentry's one good deed to Trixie ended up causing everyone to help someone else in some way, making everyone's day better.
* SmokeOut: Trixie pulls a smoke in to appear before Fluttershy. Unlike her previous attempts at using smoke, it works perfectly.
* ThrowTheDogABone: Flash Sentry opens the short looking rather miserable as he tosses a coin into Canterlot Mall's fountain -- and this is '''after''' [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsLegendOfEverfree struggling to get over the fact he probably will never see his crush again]], [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirlsFriendshipGames getting brushed off by the human counterpart of said crush]], [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls1 and breaking up with his then-girlfriend]], all in the span of a few months -- but his sole act of kindness (towards [[ItsAllAboutMe Trixie]] of all characters) during this moment of depression sets up a series of events that leads into Sunset noticing his emotional plight for the first time since ''Legend of Everfree'', prompting her to offer to eat lunch with him, after which the rest of her friends join them.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Continuing the ''Equestria Girls'' tradition, nobody bats an eye at Twilight, Rainbow Dash and Rarity blatantly using their superpowers in public. A lot of the patrons happen to be students from either CHS or CPA, but not everyone.
