[[WMG: Sonic.exe was just Kyle getting payback on Tom]]
So Kyle got fed up with his idiot friend Tom constantly borrowing money from him to buy the latest Sonic game and never paying him back, while also complaining nonstop to the former about how this new game “ruined Sonic” after having played it, only to then change his tune and lionize it while lamenting about the next one, when not singing the praises of his OC, Tommy the Hedgehog, Sonic’s super awesome long lost brother who can fly, teleport and has reality warping powers, and how SEGA is stupid for not making him canon, so Kyle worked hard and created this hacked game to get his revenge on Tom and hopefully kill the latter’s obsession with Sonic. He also planted that Sonic.exe doll while Tom was sleeping to make it extra convincing.

[[WMG:Sonic.exe is an alternate [[ComicBook/SonicTheComic Fleetway Super Sonic]].]]
A sadistic psychopath trapped in the form of the blue blur? Adding to the creepiness factor, Sonic.exe could originate from the infamous bad ending of Sonic 2 (8-bit), where [[MoralEventHorizon it's implied Dr. Robotnik killed Tails.]] If so, perhaps the extreme rage coupled with the Chaos Energy created Sonic.exe?
* But then Tails wouldn't be around for Sonic.exe to kill in the original story.
** That's because Sonic EXE recreated the universe so he could kill Tails. He's clearly powerful enough [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou to threaten Tom]], so it's not unlikely Sonic.exe has hacked the reality he's in, allowing him to kill Tails. He claims that [[AGodAmI "I AM GOD"]] is because he has absolute control over the world he's in. [[FridgeHorror This means that Tails]] [[FateWorseThanDeath can be brought back to kill over and over.]]
* Jossed; X is not Sonic and is, in fact, just [[ItMakesSenseInContext a really big fan of him.]]

[[WMG:Sonic.exe is actually [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI Kefka]].]]
If you read the story, it SPECIFICALLY describes Sonic.exe's laugh as Kefka's NoblewomansLaugh -- oddly specific, unless it was {{Foreshadowing}}. In fact, Sonic.exe is also pretty similar to Kefka [[FridgeBrilliance when you think about it]]: they're both FauxAffablyEvil, AxCrazy, and have [[AGodAmI pretty serious God Complexes]]. Perhaps after Kefka got his ass handed to him in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'', [[DemonicPossession his spirit hijacked the Sonic.exe disk]], [[BrainwashedAndCrazy and had Sonic]] [[FightingYourFriend murder his friends]] ForTheEvulz.

[[WMG:Maybe this is Kyle's elaborate prank to Tom]]
Kyle probably knew that Tom is gullible to believe just about anything and that he was a total coward. So what Kyle did was he stayed quiet and didn't speak to Tom for two weeks, got some of his buddies who know their way around making video games to cook up this "haunted" ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' computer game with all these stolen assets from other video games that would scare Tom like a kid watching ''Friday the 13th'', had someone else to make the bloodied stuffed demonic Sonic doll, and another person to pose as the mail man to ship the CD to his mailbox. Kyle, lurking somewhere around Tom's house, plays the waiting game until he finished the level with Dr. Robotnik, where he then sneaks in Tom's room like a ninja to plant the doll on his bed, took out a voice-changer so he'd sound demonic and screw with him at the last minute.
* This troper just has this to say- this might be the greatest reason the WMG pages on TV Tropes exist! That was incredible!
* In addition, Kyle might also be an immigrant from the ''Film/GodfreyHoNinjaMovies'' universe, explaining how Kyle was able to sneak in and sneak away so fast.
* Yes. YES! '''YES!'''

[[WMG:Sonic.exe was Robotnik's most powerful Sonic copy ever.]]
Robotnik came up with a reality warping sonic copy designed to overpower all of Sonic's friends in a way that makes fighting back literally impossible. Its abilities showed the ability to break the fourth wall and even kill humans outside of the game. Being a self-aware AI, it was quick to turn on its creator. For whatever reason, it killed Sonic's closest friends and archnemesis first, and waited until it was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIhbHu1D85U actually able to get on a Sega Genesis Cartridge To kill Sonic himself]], thus getting closer to validating its god complex.
* And the only person who could stop Sonic.exe... [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ke75rt2tF8 was Michael Rosen of all people]].

[[WMG:Sonic.exe is actually [[WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph Turbo]].]]
It's so obvious! Not only do they both have a big CheshireCatGrin, but just like Sonic.exe, Turbo [[spoiler:invades a kid-friendly game, disguises himself as a friendly character, and uses this form to deceive and hurt the other characters. They both also get TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou moments!]] Also, the Creepypasta borrows a ''lot'' of elements from other games. It would make sense considering that Turbo ''loves'' game-jumping.
[[WMG:The EldritchAbomination's name is "X" because whoever named him that was doing a half-assed attempt at a TakeThat to Anime/SonicX.]]

[[WMG:X is not merely taking Sonic's form, he is wearing Sonic's body.]]
The skin-suit way his sonic form is occasionally described as well as the leaking blood suggest it's no mere shapeshift. Either he possessed Sonic directly, or he claimed Sonic's mortal coil for himself after he died of other causes. [[MonsterFromBeyondTheVeil He may have even came about as a botched attempt to resurrect a long-dead Sonic in an alternate future.]]

[[WMG:X is being over the top on purpose.]]
The "Sega 666" and excessive use of blood black and red just seems lame and excessive. Except that's the point. That's his sense of humor, and of course being a powerful entity who can manipulate a game however he wants, he takes great amusement in how he can scare the shit out of his victims DESPITE how over the top and cheesy he's being.

[[WMG:X is actually the titular entity from Creator/StephenKing's Literature/{{It}}.]]
Think about it, just like X, It is a shapeshifting EldritchAbomination that takes on many different forms. (Most famously [[MonsterClown Pennywise the Dancing Clown]]) So it wouldn't be unlike It to appear as a demonic version of Sonic the Hedgehog. The Sonic.exe game may even be a manifestation of It itself.

[[WMG:The sequel Sally.exe is a spiritual remake of this Sonic video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10q8-y_6DC0]]

[[WMG:The name of X's dimension is [[Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker Exegol]].]]

[[WMG:Sonic.exe is a Sega CD 32X game]]
This would explain how it can be a hack of Sonic 1 but also have SNES music and "hyperrealistic" graphics.

[[WMG:X is actually the same X from [[Characters/BattleForDreamIslandHosts Battle for Dream Island]].]]
A quote from the actual creator: [[https://www.deviantart.com/masterggg/journal/Sonic-exe-finally-revealed-333606342 "Sonic.exe was created in the void, in a gap between dimensions, making him a non-existent outsider in our universe. This creature was born out of pure dark matter in this void, and at the time he had no real namesake nor did he have an actual describable body, it was only until he learned about OUR world that he actually started getting a body."]] That sounds a lot like a variable, doesn't it? X didn't have a name before he found the Latin alphabet. Besides, Sonic.exe drags people's souls into his twisted little world to play games forever, and X the cohost plays games in his little world with objects that have souls even though by any stretch of logic they really shouldn't.
* First of all, that's not even his actual creator, just a character in the ARG surrounding the story. Second of all, it has been confirmed by multiple people that the souls end up in Sonic characters, not household objects.

[[WMG:[[VideoGame/BanjoKazooie The Lord of Games]] created Sonic.exe.]]
In an in-character Q&A on Rare's official Facebook page, L.O.G. mentions that he has a tendency to create bad games whenever he has nightmares. If we're going off of the original creepypasta (with how questionable and over-the-top the game itself can be), L.O.G. may have created this infamous character based off of a nightmare he had about the Blue Blur.

To try and quote him: "He's probably terrorizing some poor Sonic fan out there, but there's nothing I can really do about it."

[[WMG: Sonic.exe is a [[Manga/TokyoGhoul ghoul]].]]
Just look at his eyes. Black sclera and red pupils are signs of ghouls. In Tokyo Ghoul universe these eyes are called «kakugan». Then, in this game we can't see how Sonic.exe kills his victims. So, we could imagine how Sonic.exe eats his victims's bodies. And maybe you know how Sonic.exe are looking very sharp? Sonic.exe could be a ghoul.

[[WMG: Sonic.exe is an alternate universe version of the Sonic from the infamous "Sonic High School" badfic after turning evil]]
It's already been shown in the story that Sonic was willing to do really bad things to people that he called friends (such as fantasizing about raping Amy in more than one ocassion, aiding Espio in aborting Knuckles Jr without Rouge's consent, leaving Amy and Rogue trapped inside of detention despite them being in a near-death state from starvation, beating Amy to an inch of her life after he thinks that she cheated on him (despite the fact that he himself cheated on her before), killing Vector, bullying Charmy for his homosexuality, beating up an autistic kid bcause he accidentally insulted him, etc). Maybe this takes place in a universe where after being ressurrected by the Ultra Chaos Emeralds by Shadow, he absorbed their power and transformed into an evil creature like [[ComicBook/SonicTheComic Fleetway Super Sonic]], but instead of turning into "Super Sonic but evil", he turned into Sonic.exe! Why does he have those reality warping powers? Because the Ultra Chaos Emeralds have the power to grant any possible wish, and since he pretty much had all of their power to himself, he used them to become a sadistic PhysicalGod, that explains why is he so childish.

[[WMG: Tom somehow knew the Sonic characters were real]]

One common complaint is why Tom is so worried about Sonic characters, over his own friend. The sequel reveals that they are real people drawn into the game.

Therefor Tom must have known about it, even if he did not realize it. Something must have made him realize on some level that the characters were genuine souls being tormented.
** Or maybe he simply couldn't tell fiction from reality and was accidentally right.

[[WMG: Tom is a family member of the protagonist of Fanfic/BloodWhistle]]
The two of them are extremely melodramatic about what's going on on a videogame and have pretty SkewedPriorities, except that while the guy from Blood Whistle was merely being '''way''' too dramatic (he committed suicide over A FUCKING ROM HACK for crying out loud), Tom was actually right about the in-game characters being living creatures.

[[WMG: X is a [[Franchise/{{Kirby}} Dark Matter]].]]
It's stated that he was born from a gap between worlds... in other words, a Void. And his true form is a dark cloud. Do the math.
* [[TakeThat It may be possible that he and]] [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3 Ze]][[VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards ro]] [[VideoGame/MegaManX are a]] BigBadDuumvirate, and Zero is a GreaterScopeVillain.

[[WMG: ASTRANOMICONX's new canon will have a lot of LampshadeHanging about the oddity of the story's events]]
In her twitter account, Astra confirmed that the new canon will be a HorrorComedy, and given how she herself has lampshaded the ridiculousness of the story, it wouldn't be too far-fetched.
* Semi-confirmed. The first part in the new canon, a fanmade "week" for VideoGame/FridayNightFunkin, portrays Xen as a goofy little guy with a bad temper who's not meant to be taken seriously. However, Astro recalled the week, declaring it non-canon and banishing her beast from ever appearing in the game again, so the horror-comedy angle may be scrapped.

[[WMG: Monika from VisualNovel/DokiDokiLiteratureClub! is Sonic.exe's creator seeking a revenge for the player who deleted the visual novel]]
After Tom was scarred by the visual novel, he decided to delete DDLC. Monika, heartbroken and mind-shattered, descending more and more into an extreme version of {{Yandere}} had enough and used first Tom's favourite video game character, Sonic (renaming 'sonic.chr' to 'sonic.exe'), then his friend Kyle, as hosts. Upon Tom being disturbed at the Sonic.exe game, Monika manifested herself within Sonic.exe himself and his plush form, she strikes right at him and when Monika finally got Tom all for herself, Tom... ''was no more...''

[[WMG: Ignoring Round 2, Tom [[AmbiguousSituation may have]] survived.]]
I'm honestly surprised nobody has picked up on this. At the start of the pasta, when Tom is talking about how the events of it changed his view on Sonic forever, he speaks about them as if they had occured a decent while ago. This would likely mean that Sonic.exe ''didn't'' immediately kill him after pulling up with the plushie, thus letting Tom survive, at the very least, long enough to write the story down.

As the WMG proper says, I fully understand that you need to completely ignore Round 2 for this, as it confirms that Tom did, in fact, die. But even then, I'm not fully convinced that JC had both stories thought out the moment he was writing the first.
* Actually, Round 2 reveals that X's victims don't really die at all, at least according to the morticians.
----
[[WMG: Tom is also a creepypasta monster]]
Tom is very powerful. He can recall the exact details of an image after seeing it for a single frame and tell that it ''was'', in fact, one frame exactly. He will go right in a game for hours on end without losing sight of his goal or enduring any physical discomfort. X couldn't even kill him physically, forcing them both into a Mandela-esque mind game, which at the very least proves a resistance to void attacks.
Tom also seems oddly disconnected from reality in his mental state. He casts his friend's well wishes aside in favor of a quick thrill with Sonic. He proceeds to bring the characters to their doom even when he realizes he gains nothing from it. He describes even mundane things such as the mailman delivering X to him in painstaking detail, as if he himself was unfamiliar with the process.
