[[SelfDemonstratingArticle Welcome, new employee]], to Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental! This facility's highly advanced and rentable animatronics are boatloads better than those of any other pizza restaurant you've been to or heard of -- especially ones connected to all kinds of nasty rumors and urban legends. Everything we have here is state of the art, ready to thrill and entertain children young and old!

Now, this expensive machinery doesn't run itself, so we hired you as our new after-hours technician, which means you have the job of making sure everything runs like clockwork. Yeah, you'll be in tight, cramped spaces while you work, but you'll have full access to the entire facility to do your job; even the air vents are open if you ever need shortcuts. And it's not as if you'll be alone: the stars of our restaurant, the animatronics, will be keeping you company. ...oh, you've heard [[HostileAnimatronics those stories about the animatronics at]] [[Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddys1 that]] [[Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2 other]] [[Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3 pizza]] [[Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4 joint]]? Well, I assure you, we're nothing like them. Unlike that ''other place'', our animatronics are streamlined models with all the best circuitry money can buy. They'll never come after and try to seriously [=harm/maim=] you. But just so we're clear, Fazbear Ent- err, ''Circus Baby's'' is not responsible for any death or dismemberment that may happen while you're on the job; it says so in the contract you signed. Legal mumbo-jumbo, you know the deal.

This job is nothing a talented individual like yourself can't handle. Just stay alert, watch your fingers, keep the place running smooth, and we're sure the animatronics and you will get along just fine. [[SchmuckBait Trust us, it'll be a funtime!]]

''Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location'' is the fifth game in the ''Franchise/FiveNightsAtFreddys'' series by Creator/ScottCawthon, who eventually revealed it to be a new game in what was previously considered a finished series after the [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld spin-off RPG game]]. The game was released on October 7, 2016; [[https://youtu.be/Uw4-bZkxyKQ you can watch the trailer on YouTube]] and [[http://store.steampowered.com/app/506610/?snr=1_5_1100__1100 order it on Steam]]. And, [[TrollingCreator in typical Scott Cawthon fashion]], [[http://gamejolt.com/games/sister-location-ma/195478 you can download the troll game, passed off as the "mature version", for free]] at [=GameJolt=]. On December 1, 2016, a set of Custom Night modes was released as a free update.

In June 2017, Cawthon's site teased a sixth game to this series. On the very last day of said month, however, [[http://steamcommunity.com/games/506610/announcements/detail/1343611811951288957 said sequel was supposedly cancelled]] due to a lack of interest and a wish to "get back to what made game-making enjoyable in the first place". Unfortunately, [[https://www.reddit.com/r/fivenightsatfreddys/comments/6lwqgs/im_sorry/ recent events]] made it clear that this time he wasn't trolling.

Then in August 2017, Scott released [[https://www.reddit.com/r/fivenightsatfreddys/comments/6sflkw/megathread_for_the_bts_images/ several]] [[https://www.reddit.com/r/fivenightsatfreddys/comments/6udby3/the_freddy_files_spoiler_release_thread/ teasers]] that heavily suggest ''Five Nights at Freddy's 6'' has been UnCanceled, [[VideoGame/FreddyFazbearsPizzeriaSimulator before eventually releasing it]] as a surprise release in December of the same year.

----
!!There never was just one. [Trope, that is.]
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:#-C]]
* AbusiveParents: Michael's monologue at the end heavily implies that William Afton sent his son to [[spoiler:destroy]] the ''murderous'' animatronics stashed underground, resulting in Michael ultimately [[spoiler:getting scooped and reanimated.]]
* AIIsACrapshoot: It turns out that Handy the AI "Phone Guy" is completely malfunctional, to the point of giving the player wrong (and deadly) instructions, [[spoiler: mistaking two dead bodies as animatronics,]] [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and having an unstable keypad that can't even recognise your name]]. Then again, [[IncompetenceInc considering who developed him]], is it really surprising to know he doesn't work properly?
* AirVentPassageway: This is the only way access different parts of the facility. Also, in the Private Room, one of the methods Ennard tries to get into your room is through the vents. This is used again in the Custom Night, but by Bidybab only.
* AllOrNothing: [[spoiler:Forming Ennard and hiding inside a human meatsuit to escape unnoticed]] is the Circus Baby animatronics' ultimate gamble, with no second chance should they fail. They only have one night, one chance to pull this off. [[spoiler:[[TheBadGuyWins And,]] [[BadEnding unfortunately]]...]]
* AmbiguousEnding: The "fake" ending, which [[spoiler:has Michael survive Ennard and escape Circus Baby's Pizza World, only for Ennard to have come home with them and be crawling towards him as he ends an episode of ''The Immortal and the Restless''. Did Ennard manage to escape on its own? Did Michael somehow smuggle it out? Is Ennard still attempting to get Michael's skin, or are the two managing to live in harmony?]]
* AmbiguousSituation: It's not known if the two technicians you [[spoiler:find dead on night five hanged themselves, or if Ennard killed them and made their deaths look like suicides.]]
* AmbiguousTimePeriod: It's not quite clear when the game takes place. Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is said to be closed and Circus Baby's Pizza World stepped in to fill its void shortly after, but Freddy's has closed two or three times across the series. [[note]]Fredbear's Family Diner closed sometime between the fourth and second games, Freddy Fazbear's closed immediately after the second game to reopen in a new location, and Freddy's closes for good sometime in the 30 years between the first and third games.[[/note]] The TV in-between nights is even an old analog set. However, the animatronics seem exceptionally high-tech compared to even the Toy animatronics, and the set of unlockable blueprints has a copyright listing the year as "xxxx"...and, just to make things even worse, the Private Room, inexplicably, has access to a video feed of [[WhamShot the Child's bedroom from 4]].
* AndIMustScream:
** The animatronics all suffer this when they get scooped, having their insides torn out of them.
** Baby doesn't know why [[spoiler:she was compelled to kill a little girl that wanted her ice cream]] and she couldn't do a thing about it.
** If Ennard is to be believed and isn't spouting BlatantLies, [[spoiler:neither Eggs Benedict or the girl Baby killed can/will die once taken by the animatronics]]. It is later revealed by the Custom Night cutscenes... [[spoiler:[[WhamShot that it's]] '''[[WhamShot true]]''', as Eggs repossesses his own rotten corpse once Ennard abandons it]].
* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: The game's true ending has the protagonist killed by the [[spoiler:Scooper,]] and Ennard wears their [[spoiler:skin to escape]] the building. Come the last of the 'street' cutscenes from the Custom Night, and Ennard leaves the protagonist's [[spoiler:rotten husk, which is ''repossessed'' by the original owner]].
* {{Antepiece}}: Since moving around is a new thing in the main [=FNAF=] franchise, the first thing you do is crawl into a vent to get to the main office like area. This is to get you ready for Ballora's Gallery, which you have to crawl through and not make too much noise.
* AntiFrustrationFeatures: The Golden Freddy mode for the Custom Night was thought to be [[UnintentionallyUnwinnable impossible to beat]] by Scott, as the player didn't have enough power to last the night no matter what they did. [[http://steamcommunity.com/games/506610/announcements/detail/585862253595139292 Before adding a final cutscene acquired by clearing it, he increased the amount of power that mode had compared to the other modes]].
* ArcWords: "You Won't Die"
** [[spoiler: Spoken by Ennard in Baby's voice during the Office mini-game when they attempt to enter your Office, and again in the Secret Ending when Ennard leaps out of the protagonist's body. They lie seemingly dead on the sidewalk before those words are spoken and he gets up, alive.]]
** This gets a CallBack in VideoGame/UltimateCustomNight, when Scrap Baby says it in a death screen:
-->"You won't die… ''but you'll wish you could''."
* ArtificialStupidity: [[RunningGag Despite this series' long affair with this trope]], largely averted this time around. There are clear, in-universe explanations for why the animatronics don't just snap your neck when you come in arm's reach of a few of them. And if you find the secret [=FNAF1=] style room, Ennard ''will'' attack you from all sides, [[spoiler:as they are hellbent on getting you into the scooping room, even if they have to drag you there themselves]].
* AutoIncorrect: The elevator from the start of each night has a glitchy keypad that makes proper inputs impossible, so the system will try to auto-correct to what it thinks you meant to type. On the first night, it will auto-correct your name to "Eggs Benedict" regardless of what you try to enter, and the second night's request for you to hit a number (on a keypad with no numbers) to select a companion voice auto-corrects to "Angsty Teen" when that wasn't even one of the listed options. More amusingly, the keypad lacks the letter "B", but all of the auto-corrects except for the aforementioned Angsty Teen include a B.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: In the SoapWithinAShow, once you access the secret ending, it's clear that Clara and Vlad really do care about each other beneath their constant bickering.
* TheBadGuyWins: In the Real Ending, the animatronics succeed in killing you via the [[spoiler:Scooper]] and succeed in their plan to use your [[spoiler:skin to escape.]]
* BaitTheDog: Baby at first appears to help by giving you instructions on surviving night two. Then after night three, she locks you into a springlock suit to see if the technicians will find you, and nearly gets you killed.
* BeingWatched: For whatever reason, the management is watching the houses in the neighborhood it lies buried under. The neighborhood layout is seen on the power screen, with areas labeled "observatories" -- and if you enter the right code in the secret room, you get a security camera view of the home from ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4''.
* BittersweetEnding: In the "Real Ending", you get your insides scooped out of you by [[spoiler:Ennard]] so that they can escape from Circus Baby's Pizzeria. The Custom Night [[spoiler:expands on it: [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome the skin starts to rot]],]] and Ennard is forced to exit it and escape into the sewers. Surprisingly, the protagonist [[spoiler:''gets back up'', and is implied to be possessing their rotting hollowed out corpse.]] However, the Golden Freddy cutscene makes it very clear [[spoiler:that [[SequelHook things aren't quite over yet...]]]]
* BlackAndGrayMorality: The management at Circus Baby's is as bad as Freddy Fazbear's, if not ''worse,'' since Circus Baby's Pizza World has gone beyond the usual atrociously unsafe working conditions and apparently into ''actively trying to kill'' the protagonist. The "grey" comes in when it becomes clear that these animatronics are ''really'' not on the same page as the restaurant... [[spoiler:but that doesn't mean they're above sacrificing a new hire to escape]].
* BlatantLies:
** In ''[[SoapWithinAShow The Immortal and the Restless]]'', Vlad insists [[ChocolateBaby he is not the father of Clara's child]] despite the child sharing his blue skin and clearly displaying vampire powers and traits.
** Ennard says that the [[spoiler:Scooper]] will "only hurt for a moment", and that you won't die. As with everything it says, it's only a [[spoiler:ploy to get you to come out of the Private Room...until [[WhamEpisode the Custom Night cutscenes]] reveal that ''[[AndIMustScream it wasn't joking.]]'']]
* BreatherEpisode:
** You can breeze through Night 1 without the fear of being attacked by animatronics. Its sole function, other than for backstory purposes, is to prep you for the real challenge in Night 2, where you have to creep your way through Ballora Gallery.
** The SoapWithinAShow segments that take place between each night are hilariously silly (it is a soap opera about a cartoon vampire and his lover, after all) and provide some lighthearted release from the game's scarier moments.
* BrickJoke: The automated Phone Guy counterpart has a RunningGag of asking you to type the answer to a question (i.e. "What is your name") on a malfunctioning virtual keyboard, and then inputting the answer he believes you were trying to type (in this case, he autocorrects your name to "Eggs Benedict"). On the last night, he asks you which type of gift basket you would like to receive, and misinterprets your answer as "Exotic Butters". If you get the good ending, a basket of said butters can be seen sitting on top of the television.
* CallBack:
** Sister locations were mentioned as far back as ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2'', though this one may be a wholly separate one from the one Phone Guy mentioned there. Also, like the first game's advertisement shown at the beginning, this one's ends with "Not responsible for injury or dismemberment."
** There's a secret room in Night 5, and entering it results in you playing a revamped version of the original [=FNaF=] game, with doors, power meter, lights, cameras... hell, even the famous ''fan'' is there.
* CanonImmigrant:
** Funtime Foxy first appeared in ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld'', though was presented as a completed version of Mangle and not the very different animatronic she is here.
** Likewise, Lolbit also first appeared in ''World''. It can occasionally replace Ennard's mask in the Primary Control Module and is one of the animatronics attacking you in the Custom Night.
** Technically, Circus Baby's first appearance is in ''World'', albeit more as an EarlyBirdCameo than anything (you don't actually see her, unlike the above two).
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: Baby keeps you alive [[spoiler:long enough for Ennard to scoop out your innards.]]
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: The [[http://media.indiedb.com/cache/images/games/1/54/53231/thumb_620x2000/02.jpg Primary Control Module]] has a greenish yellow color to it, not unlike ''3'''s ColorMotif.
* ColorMotif: Much like ''3'' and ''4'', this game has two color motifs: blue, and... [[GreaterScopeVillain purple.]] [[spoiler:Considering who [[TheManBehindTheMan created these animatronics]], it's justified.]]
* ComeOutComeOutWhereverYouAre: At the beginning of every shift, Handy will lead you to check on the animatronics to see if they're in place... and if they aren't, to drive them out of hiding with a "controlled shock"; on Night Two, Handy says, "Oh Circus Baby, we aren't here to play hide and seek."
* ContinuingIsPainful: Each night is story-driven, in an episodic fashion as the plot unfolds. If you die during a night, you're forced right back to the beginning of that chapter.
* ContinuityCavalcade: The secret room on Night 5 has this for every game in the series.
** ''[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys1 FNAF 1]]'': Limited battery and a door on either side which can be closed.
** ''[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2 FNAF 2]]'': Three separate entrances, one of which is a vent.
** ''[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3 FNAF 3]]'': Only one animatronic after you, but has several different angles of attack and multiple jumpscares.
** ''[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4 FNAF 4]]'': A Fredbear plush can be seen on the desk wearing a purple hat and bowtie. Also, if you input "[[WildMassGuessing 1983]]" into the keypad, you get ''[[WhamShot footage of the Child's bedroom from the fourth game!]]'' [[spoiler:The ''Literature/FiveNightsAtFreddysFazbearFrights'' Tales from The Pizzaplex story "Dittophobia" reveals that the bedroom itself is actually another facility used for experiments with fear inside of Circus Baby's along with the implication that the Plushtrap hallway and a copy of Crying Child's house were as well.]]
** Also, [[spoiler:[[RunningGag you get fired again]] in the room's given ending, though your character's name is not given.]]
* ControllableHelplessness: At the end of Night 3, [[FissionMailed Funtime Foxy catches you]]. Night 4 begins with you inside a springlock suit, unable to move for the entire night. The only things you can do are try to keep the springlocks wound up, and wiggle to shake Minireenas off.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:D-L]]
* DarkerAndEdgier:
** Compared to the spin-off that came out beforehand, [[Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld FNaF World]], this game is ''clearly'' much darker right off the bat. And as the trailer shows, this could potentially be ''the'' darkest game in the series.
** The game itself shows that it most likely ''is''. [[spoiler:Two nameless technicians are killed and hung in plain sight on rafters, a child is ''murdered by Baby on-screen,'' and in the Bad Ending, the main character gets 'scooped' (i.e., ''disemboweled'') and Ennard, a BodyOfBodies made up of the rest of the animatronics, [[GenuineHumanHide wears his skin as a disguise]] to get out of the building. Oh, and Ennard doesn't leave the skin suit until it's rotted purple, and you get to watch it slowly decay in 8-bit 'glory'.]] If you have read ''The Silver Eyes'', you already know from the start that things are going to be bad when it is spelled out to you within the first minute that these things were designed by Mr. Afton. [[spoiler: He is Purple Guy.]]
* DeadlyEuphemism: Ice cream and "scooping" get used in deadly contexts an awful lot.
* DemotedToExtra: Baby headlines the restaurant while the Fazbear gang are pushed to the side, though at least Freddy and Foxy are still part of the main cast. Bonnie, meanwhile, is merely Funtime Freddy's handpuppet, and Chica isn't seen or mentioned in the game in any form at all.
* DidntThinkThisThrough:
** If Mr. Afton didn't mean to kill her, then he clearly did not think his plan of [[spoiler:creating animatronics to aid him with his SerialKiller shtick]] through very well.
** Baby doesn't consider after having Foxy ambush you that putting you, the only means of escape, into a deadly springlock suit, could kill you.
** Ennard doesn't seem to have a grasp of basic biology [[spoiler:if it thought it could pilot your corpse around indefinitely. Bodies ''do'' rot, after all, and the progression of the minigames in Custom Night shows the corpse's slow degradation (much to the horror of your neighbors) before Ennard finally bails on your now skeletal and purple corpse and scampers down a storm drain. [[WhamShot And then your body gets back up]].]]
* TheDissenterIsAlwaysRight: It's revealed near the end of the game that Ballora was [[spoiler:against the plan to scoop Eggs in order to use his body to escape the underground facility the animatronics were locked in, fearing it wouldn't work.]] Baby and the others completely ignore her, tricking the workers into [[spoiler:having Ballora scooped so they could all combined into Ennard. Once they do escape, however, it turns out that Ballora was right to worry as, while the plan works for a while, Eggs' body starts to rot and eventually rejects Ennard completely, forcing them into the sewers and making their lives even ''worse''.]]
* DoubleMeaningTitle:
** Ennard's little subtitle on his teaser. It's a reference to how [[spoiler:[[FusionDance it's a combination of all the animatronics]], [[GenuineHumanHide and how it plans to escape the restaurant.]]]]
** The meaning of ''Sister Location'' itself. Besides the obvious, [[spoiler:the game is about discovering the location (and fate) of Michael Afton's sister]].
* EasterEgg:
** You can press various things (including [[RunningGag various noses]]) in the elevator, the Primary Control Module, and Circus Gallery. In particular, the little red button on the down-right of the elevator will produce the exact sound that you'd normally get from [[OnceAnEpisode beeping Freddy's nose]] in the other games.
** Sometimes eyes peek at you from outside the Elevator. It seems to be Bidybab's.
** Ennard's mask in the Primary Control Module occasionally changes into [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld Lolbit's]].
** In Night 3, you can ignore [=HandUnit=]'s instruction for you to go to Funtime Auditorium and instead head to Circus Gallery. Crawl under the desk and move the door to the right, like you did to hinder Bidybab in Night 2. Wait for a while. [[spoiler: Baby will then tell you the story of how she snatched Mr. Afton's daughter.]]
** There's also a big CallBack and possibly a ''ludicrously'' important [[TheReveal Reveal]] involving one of the keypads you can find: entering 1983 in the keypad inside the Private Room will make the three TV screens [[WhamShot show images of various locations from]] ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4''. [[spoiler:"Dittophobia" reveals that this is because they are actually facilities inside of Circus Baby's as well which William used to experiment with the fear levels of his victims.]]
** A Bidybab rarely can be seen in the left elevator window and the Circus Control window. Similarly, a Minireena can rarely be seen in the Primary Control Module. Both can appear in the house in the end-of-night cutscenes. Minireena can also [[{{Pun}} pop]] out of the popcorn.
** There can randomly be a distorted voice calling out the numbers 1, 5, 7, or 8. Pitching up the voice reveals that it's Baby, however no meaning has been found behind these numbers. Interestingly, the numbers make a comeback in ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysARSpecialDelivery'' during 8-Bit Baby's attack, floating around her when she haywires.
* EatenAlive: [[spoiler:The fate of Mr. Afton's daughter when she finally got her much-desired alone time with her favorite animatronic out of the ones that her father made: Baby herself.]] It's shown onscreen in the mini-game if you go back to the start with the ice cream.
* ElaborateUndergroundBase: Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental is a fancy and high-tech animatronic warehouse that's deep enough below ground that one needs to use an elevator to access it.
* EtTuBrute: Baby acts wounded in the [[spoiler:fake ending when you don't listen to her and hole up in the secret room. Except by then, you know it's not Baby but rather Ennard, and Ennard wants your skin to escape]].
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** While Purple Guy/[[spoiler:Mr. Afton]] is scum that lured children to their death and designed robots that would lock a child inside them, even ''he'' didn't want [[spoiler:his daughter killed by them and kept warning her away from Baby. Supposedly. Either way, it [[LaserGuidedKarma didn't work]]]].
** Upper management likes to know where their employees are when they don't leave the building, and they explicitly say that they need to go home. [[spoiler:Probably because if the employees are staying past their shift in a terrible place, they're dead.]]
* EvilBrit: Mr. Afton, [[TheManBehindTheMan creator of the CBPW animatronics]] [[spoiler:and [[SerialKiller eleven-time child murderer]]]], has a slight British accent.
* EvilCounterpart: Handy to Phone Guy. While Phone Guy provides extremely useful information to keep the player alive during the first and second game, Handy's instructions lead to all of the animatronics gunning for you.
* EvilGloating: The player is forced to listen to [[spoiler:Ennard]]'s scheme in both endings. In the [[spoiler:real ending, Ennard breaks it into a long detailed explanation right before scooping Eggs]]. In the [[spoiler:fake ending, Ennard will explain it in small sentences and chunks as idle chatter while trying to break into the office]].
* ExactWords: At one point on Scottgames.com, Scott posted a screen that said "CANCELLED due to leaks." The grand opening of Circus Baby's Pizza World got cancelled because of gas leaks in the building. [[TrollingCreator Oh, you thought Scott was talking about the game?]]
* EyeDentityGiveaway: [[spoiler:When the player meets Circus Baby, she has bright green eyes as a notable part of her design. In the backstory scenes, however, her eyes are instead a bright blue, and it's Elizabeth Afton who has the green eyes. This is the evidence that, after scooping Elizabeth, the animatronic became possessed by the little girl.]]
* FacialHorror: Several of the animatronics can open up their face plates to expose their wiry endoskeletons.
* FailedASpotCheck: Handy doesn't notice [[spoiler:the two missing technicians, each hanging from a circus platform noose.]]
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Ennard will [[spoiler:get out]], no matter which ending.
* FalseReassurance: "The scooper only hurts for a moment."
* TheFarmerAndTheViper: Helping Circus Baby and the other Funtimes results in Michael getting [[spoiler:scooped]] for his troubles.
* FinalExamBoss: The hidden final encounter with Ennard is this for the ''entire series'' up to this point, with the doors/power conservation mechanic from the first game, the three points of entry from the second, the lone roaming animatronic with multiple attack patterns from the third, and the reliance on audio cues from the fourth.
* FissionMailed:
** Regardless of how well you play, Funtime Foxy ''will'' catch you at the end of Night 3, even playing a jumpscare. However, you are still alive, and instead you are put inside a springlock suit for Night 4.
** Earlier on the same night, the player ''will'' experience the JumpScare that is Funtime Freddy's face abruptly flying open... except for once, you're actually ''trying'' to open up his face, and that just means you're halfway through the night; for once, the local Freddy isn't trying to kill the protagonist. For now.
* FlowerMouth: Invoked with the Funtime animatronics. They were all built with their faces separated into segments that can move separately from each other. These shifting face plates can also split open all at once, revealing the creepy robotic face beneath. While InUniverse, this was done so the robots could be opened up for maintenance, out of universe, it makes for a terrifying NightmareFace.
* ForcedToWatch:
** On Night Four, before the playthrough starts, you're forced to watch two technicians scooping Ballora. She gets the equivalent of three heavy blows to the face and having her insides torn out.
** There is also [[spoiler:Baby, who was forced to watch herself lure in and kidnap/kill a little girl without being able to do anything about it]].
* FormulaBreakingEpisode: This game plays quite differently from the other ''FNAF'' games. For example, you're now able to move around and aren't seated to one spot every night. In fact, most of the game doesn't even have you watching the cameras, and it is actually YOU who goes to where most of the animatronics are instead of the other way around.
* FusionDance: Ennard is an amalgam of the endoskeletons of all the [[spoiler:other animatronics.]]
* GasLeakCoverup: The grand opening of Circus Baby's Pizza World got canceled due to some "gas leaks" in the building. [[spoiler:It's implied the actual cause is William's daughter getting killed by Baby.]]
* GoryDiscretionShot: You don't actually see Ballora, Foxy, or Baby getting shocked when you press the button.
* HopeSpot: It seems that on Night Five, you have to find two technicians that came to rescue you, which means you'll have some manpower to survive the nights. [[spoiler:You find each of their bodies on Ballora and Foxy's respective platforms, dangling from nooses.]]
* IJustWantToBeFree: The ultimate goal of the animatronics is to [[spoiler:escape]] the facility they're trapped in.
* JustFollowingOrders: Out of all the reasons [[spoiler:that Baby or Ennard could use to kill you, they know you were shocking Ballora, Foxy, and Baby because Handy told you to do so. They don't hold that bit against you while planning to scoop you]].
* LamarckWasRight: William Afton eventually dies in Springtrap and resurrects. Likewise, his son [[spoiler:Michael Afton resurrected after Ennard left his body.]]
* LuringInPrey: The Funtime animatronics were all designed to lure and capture children for [[BigBad William]]'s devious purposes. In [[https://64.media.tumblr.com/a2bcbaa98affdd517f4d0ace7356334e/tumblr_inline_oeu4vnM6qs1sxrlc6_1280.jpg his blueprints]], Funtime Freddy is even listed to have a feature for "Voice Mimic / Luring" and is depicted with a child in [[StomachOfHolding his torso compartment]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:M-P]]
* MadnessMantra:
** "Don't hold it against us."
** "Why didn't you trust me?" from the fake ending where you have to keep Ennard out.
** "You won't die."
* MeaningfulName: "Sister Location" isn't just another Freddy's franchise; it has predominately female animatronics, and even has two new humanoid leads. [[spoiler:It's also where Mr. Afton's daughter died, and this qualifies if you believe that the girl's room in ''Five Nights at Freddy's 4'' was hers, that the Child and his brother were her siblings, and that said brother is trying to find her in the location in the game]].
* MetaphoricallyTrue: If the minigames in the non-canon Custom Night are to be believed, [[spoiler:when Ennard tells Eggs (really Michael Afton) that he won't die, they aren't lying... after they burst free from his rotten corpse and leave to find another host, ''he gets back up.'']]
* MoodWhiplash:
** The game alternates between being scary and funny, particularly involving the auto-correct [[EpicFail epic fails]] at the beginning of each night and then immediately being thrown into a cramped, dark room with killer robots trying to rip you to pieces.
** In the Baby mini-game, which is light and cheerful, after getting the ice cream, you can go to the start. [[spoiler:A little girl approaches Baby, who offers her the ice cream. Baby's eyes then go blank, the screen turns dark, and Baby swallows the little girl with her stomach]].
* MultipleEndings: There's the Bad Ending aka the Real Ending, where [[LuredIntoATrap you go to]] [[SchmuckBait the scooping room]] [[spoiler:and get scooped by Ennard]], and there's the Good Ending aka the Fake Ending, where you go to the Private Room fend off Ennard a la old school ''Five Nights at Freddy's''[[spoiler:, go home to watch more TV, and witness Ennard hobbling into the room]].
* NeverHeardThatOneBefore: Vlad tells Clara in the soap opera that her "suck" joke isn't funny because he's heard it a million times before as a vampire.
* NeverTrustATrailer: The game's trailer depicts four of the animatronics (Ballora, Funtime Freddy, Funtime Foxy, and Circus Baby) together on one stage, but in the game, there's three different stages and none of the animatronics shown ever share the same stage (Funtime Foxy is on the Funtime Auditorium stage, Ballora is on stage at Ballora Gallery, and Circus Baby at Circus Gallery; Funtime Freddy never appears on a stage).
* NoOSHACompliance: At Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental, you'll be in cramped spaces, surrounded by active machinery, and your employers aren't responsible for any dismemberment or death you may undergo (and like Fazbear Entertainment, they make no effort to hide this; in fact, they go ''even further'' with it, approaching [[VideoGame/Portal2 Aperture Science]] levels of workplace unsafety). This is justified, given that the company's name is Afton Robotics, LLC. [[spoiler: If you have read ''The Silver Eyes'' novel, you've known from the start that Afton is the last name of [[SerialKiller Purple Guy.]]]]
* NostalgiaLevel: The [[TrueFinalBoss secret encounter with Ennard]] in the Private Room. Your goal here is to survive until 6 A.M., watching security cameras, closing doors, and managing limited power to fend off Ennard a la [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys1 the original game]].
* NumberedSequels: Averted for the first time in the series. Justified, with the likely intentional StealthPun.[[note]]Though it ''is'' called [=FNaF5=] [[http://i.imgur.com/WXFiJrN.png in the game files.]][[/note]]
* ObliviouslyEvil: If we take [[UnreliableExpositor Baby]] [[spoiler:or Ennard]] at her word, she doesn't seem to realize why the technician wouldn't want [[spoiler:to be scooped, even if he feels sympathy for the animatronics,]] and she doesn't know why [[spoiler:she lured a girl closer with ice cream, then ''brutally murdered her.'']]
* OfficiallyShortenedTitle: While the game is called "''Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location''" on Steam and in the credits, both the teasers and the title screen simply call it "''Sister Location''".
* OneWingedAngel: Ennard is basically this for the Circus Baby gang, being the final most dangerous enemy and [[spoiler:their [[FusionDance combined form]].]]
* OnlySaneMan: If we can believe Ennard, Ballora was the only animatronic who [[spoiler:opposed the plan to take Eggs Benedict as a human suit. Not out of morals — she is perfectly willing to kill you — but because she is afraid that it is not going to work]].
* PetTheDog:
** Upper management searches for you after Night Three. [[KickTheDog Now, this doesn't exactly end]] ''[[KickTheDog well]]'' for them... but... well, it's the thought that counts?
** Despite [[spoiler:getting fired]] in the Fake Ending, you still get the exotic butters.
* PragmaticVillainy:
** [[spoiler:Baby/Ennard]] keeps you alive long enough [[spoiler:to steal your body]].
** Upper management at Fazbear Corp notices when employees go missing because you can't dispose of a dead body if you can't find it. They also tell the employees to go home when their shift is done since [[spoiler:they won't be out of danger]].
* PrimalFear: Any time you have to walk through the animatronics' rooms, you're in an almost completely dark room with a KillerRobot which you can hear moving around you, trying to find you. The only way you can proceed forward is by exposing yourself to risk.
* PyrrhicVictory: For Ennard/the animatronics, at the very least. Through combining their [[spoiler:ripped-up parts]] and the murder of multiple people, they've finally escaped the pizzeria through the [[spoiler:skin of the protagonist.]] However, the skin starts to [[spoiler: rot and the neighbors start to get suspicious,]] so they're forced to escape into a sewer grate. Now they're back [[spoiler:underground,]] stuck as a mass of wires and metal.

[[folder:R-Z]]
* RedHerring:
** The trailer shows Baby's face glowing and opening, ostensibly her JumpScare since most trailers end with that. Except Baby never actually jumpscares you in the game, not counting Ennard. In fact, you never see her at all except when she's "scooped" or on posters. One theory is that it's how Baby looks when the technicians shock her.
** The game starts you with learning how to check for the animatronics and putting them back on their stages with a corrective shock. Simple, right? Wrong. These elements never come into play again beyond the first night (and briefly in the second night before everything goes to hell), as this game instead gives you a different unique task with each new night, rather than doing the same thing until six like every game before.
** You have the option to speed up your crawling through the vents and the Angsty Teen voice on Night 2 tells you that a body was found in the vents. In spite of all these ominous signs, you don't actually get attacked any time you're crawling through the vents.
* RetCanon: The game canonizes Purple Guy's last name, [[spoiler:Afton]]. However, his first name, [[spoiler:William]], does not get canonized until [[VideoGame/FreddyFazbearsPizzeriaSimulator the next game]]. Either way, both originated from the non-canon novel ''Literature/FiveNightsAtFreddysTheSilverEyes''.
* {{Retool}}: InUniverse. While Handy tries to make it sound like Freddy Fazbear's closure made way for the competition, the use of some of the same characters, and by the reveal in the Private Room that Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental is located very close to, or even right beneath Fredbear's Family Diner, make it appear that the company was just trying to rebrand itself to avoid its shady past.
* RevenantZombie: What [[spoiler: Eggs Benedict/Michael Afton]] ultimately becomes.
* RevisitingTheRoots: The premise of playing as an after-hours pizza joint employee returns (albeit you're a technician and not a security guard) after it was played with in ''Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3''[[labelnote:*]]where Freddy's is long gone and you play as a horror attraction night guard[[/labelnote]] and absent entirely in ''Videogame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4''. Reaches a whole new level when reaching the secret room on Night 5 puts you into a room that plays like an upgraded version of the very first game, complete with doors, cameras, and a power meter that drains when using any of your functions.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Michael's final monologue implies that, after Ennard leaves his [[spoiler:rotten, purple corpse]], he's gunning for his father that put him in the situation that caused his [[spoiler:transformation]] in the first place.
* RunningGag: Every time you're in the elevator, the AI asks you to type in something on a [[OminousVisualGlitch clearly malfunctioning]] keypad, and grossly misinterprets your futile attempts. HilarityEnsues.
* SchmuckBait: Invoked for how Baby was designed; [[spoiler:she keeps track of how many children there are in a room while performing. When there is only one, like a little girl she sees, her body makes ice cream to lure them closer. Then the robot is compelled to shove the child inside their stomach and hide them, with the noise from other kids and the robot's ostensibly soundproof stomach hiding the screams.]]
* SequelHook:
** The Custom Night cutscenes shows [[spoiler:Ennard escaping from the player's rotten body into the sewers. What happens to Ennard next is unknown, but if hidden dialogue in Scott's websites were anything to go by, the other animatronics aren't very happy with Baby and are trying to get rid of her...]]
** The very final cutscene, unlocked after beating Golden Freddy Mode on its hardest setting, shows that [[spoiler:Michael Afton, having re-possessed his own corpse, is out to find his old man; for what reason, we don't know. And the final shot is of [[WhamShot a very-much-intact Springtrap moving around in the burned-out ruins of Fazbear's Fright]]]].
* SkeleBot9000: The animatronics can separate their faceplates and reveal their robotic endoskeletons.
* SoapWithinAShow: After each night except in Night 3 and in Night 5's bad ending, your character gets to watch ''The Immortal and the Restless'', a cheesy soap opera about the human Clara, trying to convince ClassicalMovieVampire Vlad to support their son despite Vlad's claims the child isn't his. You even eat popcorn while watching.
* SoapOperaOrganScore: used in the above SoapWithinAShow (as a reference to both soap opera and vampire tropes), then gets a rare DarkReprise in the bad ending, transforming into an OminousPipeOrgan.
* SoundtrackDissonance:
** After putting on relaxing bongos in the elevator, Handy tells you that your paycheck is getting docked for lackluster performance.
** The Bad Ending ending plays the same tacky SoapOperaOrganScore from the game's SoapWithinAShow while [[spoiler:Ennard goes to [[ShowingOffTheNewBody look at itself in the mirror]] while wearing your flesh]]. In context, it comes across as an OminousPipeOrgan.
** As time goes on in the Custom Night Minigames, the music becomes less and less fitting [[spoiler:as it becomes readily apparent that Ennard [[DidntThinkThisThrough did not think wearing you like a skin suit through]] vis a vis the fact that corpses ''rot over time.'' Seeing the other people's reactions as Ennard continues to pilot you around like nothing is wrong despite the body's advanced necrosis while the chipper music plays is really off-putting.]]
* StaringDownCthulhu: A couple of puzzles involve you staying in the same room as Funtime Freddy for an extended period. You'll be looking at his ugly mug for a little while.
* SuddenlyVoiced: All the animatronics are now capable of speech, though this is [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld only the first]] ''[[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld canon]]'' [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysWorld game]] in which Freddy speaks. It's also the first time we hear [[spoiler:the Purple Guy (assuming he's "[[Literature/FiveNightsAtFreddysTheSilverEyes Mr. Afton]]")]] speak.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** Making it so [[spoiler:the robots themselves abduct and murder children]] isn't such a great idea, since even [[IncompetenceInc Fazbear Entertainment]] never allowed "faulty equipment" to work in the restaurant. That's probably why they [[spoiler:''removed Circus Baby immediately'' after she killed someone and never let her out again, Afton.]]
** The Custom Night cutscenes show us that [[spoiler:even though Ennard escaped with Eggs's skin as a disguise, some people noticed something wrong with him after a while, even ''before'' the rotting happened]].
** If the lines hidden in Scott's websites ([=ScottGames=] and [=FNAFWorld=]) are really between Baby and the other animatronics [[spoiler:while inside Ennard, then it shows that the other animatronics are rightfully ''pissed off'' that not only did Baby's plan not work, but it actually landed them in a worse position than before. This causes them to try to expel Baby from Ennard due to her crimes against them]].
* TokenGoodTeammate: Subverted with [[spoiler:Baby,]] who keeps you alive only to then kill you as [[spoiler:Ennard to take your body]].
* TortureAlwaysWorks: ZigZagged. You can shock Ballora and Foxy into getting onto their platforms, and in fact it's part of your job, but on Baby it's a NoSell.
* TwistEnding: In multiple layers. Firstly, the ending of the game proper has TheReveal that [[spoiler:the animatronics have combined their endoskeletons to form Ennard, who murders the protagonist]]. Then, the ending of the Custom Night cutscenes reveals that [[spoiler:the protagonist ''wasn't actually all the way dead'', survives Ennard vacating his remains, and returns to life as a literal purple guy]]. ''Then'' the very last cutscene of the game, unlocked only after beating [[HarderThanHard the hardest possible version]] of Custom Night, gives us the twist that [[spoiler:Springtrap/Mr. Afton survives the fire that ravaged Fazbear's Fright. Oh, and his son Michael is [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge coming to get him]]]].
* UnexpectedGameplayChange: Rather than having one set method of fending off animatronics that doesn't change save for increasing difficulty, every night has you do something completely different, culminating in a replica of [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys1 one of the original game's nights]] as you desperately try to hold off [[FinalBoss Ennard]] long enough to escape the building.
* UnreliableExpositor:
** Handy doesn't always register when an animatronic is not onstage intact or in good working order and his orders very nearly get you killed on nights two and three.
** Baby and [[spoiler:Ennard]] when you hear their tales, especially when on Night Five, Baby claims that she's guiding you to the Scooping Room so Ballora won't kill you, and even talks to Ballora in the dark. [[spoiler: Except Ballora and Baby were already scooped earlier in the day, meaning that you were alone with Ennard the whole time]].
* TheUnreveal: The map seen during Night 2 shows several rooms that are not explored during the game, such as the room next to Ballora's room, the room connected to Baby's room, and a room connected to the Private Room. If you look closely, however, they match the layout of the areas in ''Five Nights at Freddy's 4''. Specifically, the one next to Ballora's room is the corridor where you play the Plushtrap minigame; the one next to Baby's is Fredbear's Family Diner, the Child's house, and the road connecting them; and finally, the one next to the Private Room is the Child's bedroom, A.K.A. the primary setting of ''4''.
* WhamLine: The ''opening narration'' has one, revealing that the novels shouldn’t be taken as ''completely'' non-canon:
--> “With all due respect, those were not the design choices we were looking for, [[CanonImmigrant Mr. Afton]].
* WorldBuilding: The setting seems almost factory-like, so it's possible this is some kind of Freddy Fazbear's corporate facility. Whatever the case, the nominal restaurant chain has become very widespread, along with the curse associated with it.
* YourOtherLeft: On Night 3, the first step in dismantling Funtime Freddy is pressing a tiny button on his right cheek, followed by his left. Given the stress of the situation and the fact that you're facing him, it is very easy in the moment to press the wrong button.
