Go To

* BreakupBreakout: After leaving Pure Prairie League.
* ChartDisplacement: Perhaps the most extreme example out there. "Go Rest High on That Mountain" is by far his most famous song, but he has had '''''thirty-two''''' songs peak higher (twenty-eight solo releases and four featured credits, counting the MassiveMultiplayerCrossover "Forever Country"). Also, his highest Hot 100 entry is "House of Love", a duet with wife Music/AmyGrant that has been quickly forgotten.
* CreatorCouple: Twice. First with Janis Oliver (one-half of 80s country duo Sweethearts of the Rodeo), then with Christian singer Music/AmyGrant.
* HeAlsoDid: Gill has had a handful of outside songwriting cuts. The most prominent is "Here We Are", a 1991 hit for Music/{{Alabama}}, but another example was "You Just Get One", which was cut by both Ty Herndon and Jeff Wood. Gill sang harmony vocals on Herndon's version, and played guitar and mandolin on Wood's verison. He also has an incredibly high number of guest backing vocal credits.
* InMemoriam: "Pretty Little Adriana" is this to Adriane Dickerson, a 12-year-old girl who was shot to death in the parking lot of a Nashville supermarket in 1995.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: In the early 1980s, Gill turned down an offer to join Music/DireStraits.
