* ActorSharedBackground: As noted on the main page, the meerkat community seems to be AmbiguouslyJewish. Unsurprisingly, Ma and Uncle Max are voiced by Jewish actors (Creator/JulieKavner and Creator/JerryStiller, respectively).
* KidsMealToy: UsefulNotes/McDonalds sold plastic talking finger puppets of Timon, Pumbaa, Simba, Mufasa, Rafiki, and Ed in their Happy Meals. In Europe and Australia, the same set was used to promote the Special Edition release of the first movie, with the addition of Scar and Zazu.
* LimitedSpecialCollectorsUltimateEdition: This became Disney's first DTV "sequel" available in a 2-Disc DVD. Since the deleted scenes, two featurettes, and Creator/ Symone music video don't add up to much, the gamesan option to search for Hidden WesternAnimation/ Mouses in the movie, a "Virtual Safari" spoofing Ride/DisneyThemeParks attractions, a Series/WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire pastiche in which Meredith Vieira quizzes Timon and the player on all three Lion King movies, and a test on identifying cameoing Disney characters by their silhouettes. seem to take up the most disc space.
* TheOriginalDarrin: Shenzi and Banzai are once again voiced by Creator/WhoopiGoldberg and Cheech Marin after Creator/TressMacneille and Creator/RobPaulsen filled in for them in WesternAnimation/TimonAndPumbaa.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Creator/RowanAtkinson again declined to reprise his role as Zazu, due to contractual obligations with Film/JohnnyEnglish and Film/LoveActually. Edward Hibbert again replaces him.
** As 10 years had passed since the first film came out, Matt Weinberg replaces Creator/JonathanTaylorThomas as young Simba.
* TheOtherMarty: In the deleted opening sequence wherein Rafiki introduces the audience to the film, Creator/1952 provides the scratch audio for him, while Robert Guillaume still voices Rafiki for later recordings and the final film.
* RefittedForSequel:
** "That's All I Need" reuses the melody of "Warthog Rhapsody", the precursor to "Hakuna Matata".
** Some flatulence humor deleted from The Lion King found its way into this movie, such as Pumbaa's gas turning a lake into a jacuzzi, and Pumbaa's farts shooing the hyenas out of a cave.
** A minor example is Simba and Nala heading to a waterfall at the end of Can You Feel the Love Tonight, with implied GRatedSex. The shot was shortened in the final cut of the first movie to remove this, but in this movie the shot is restored to its original length as it pans to Timon and Pumbaa.
** The idea of Timon refusing to help Simba retake Pride Rock also originated in the first film and was reused for the story of this one.
** In addition to the above, there is a bit of back and forth dialogue between the duo and Nala before she leaves. In the late 1993 draft of the original film, Timon initially acts panicked about Simba's well-being before turning to AngerBornOfWorry, while here Timon acts a bit more selfish, leading to him and Pumbaa having a falling out.
* SequelGap: Nearly ten years after the original Lion King movie. Also, 1 ½ was released a little more than five years after WesternAnimation/TheLionKingIISimbasPride.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The film originally opened in Rafiki's tree as he spoke to the audience and introduced the premise of telling what Timon and Pumbaa were up to during the original film. It was deleted because it was deemed too grand and epic in contrast to the lighter tone of the film. It may have also been too similar to an episode of the Timon & Pumbaa series ("Once Upon A Timon") where Rafiki tells Timon's origin story to Zazu.
** Another rejected opening had Timon and Pumbaa in Rafiki's tree as they set up the premise by drawing on the tree, only to be chased out by an annoyed Rafiki.
** A deleted verse of "Diggah Tunnah" told the story of Fearless Buzz, a legendary meerkat hero who bravely stood up to the hyenas only to get killed and eaten when he was outnumbered by an entire pack of them.
** Timon's father was in the original script of the story, but his dialogue was eventually given off to Timon's mother and Uncle Max.
** Originally Timon and his parents would've led the entire colony out on the quest and would've attended Simba's presentation.
** Timon and Pumbaa would've nearly run into Mufasa during the scene in the original film where he scolds Simba.
