* ActingForTwo: Both Kitty and Vana were voiced by Stephanie Beard in the ''Funpak'' shorts before both were given different actors for the 2010 series.
* AdoredByTheNetwork: The show seemed to be Creator/{{YTV}}'s favorite show throughout the early 2010's, with it getting many promotions and online games, as-well as airing quite often, it even got its own webpage unlike other shows on the network, and even after ending it still airs in reruns. It also currently airs on the Canadians feeds of both Creator/CartoonNetwork and Creator/DisneyXD, and previously Creator/{{Nickelodeon}}. That's '''4 channels''' in total.
** Creator/DisneyXD also loved the show in the Netherlands, it even got a whole marathon during the summer time.
* ChannelHop: In the US, Creator/CartoonNetwork only aired the first two seasons of the series during its 2011-2012 run on the channel, with Creator/{{Qubo}} airng the remaining last season five years later in 2017.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: There are some people who believe the show was from Creator/{{Teletoon}} when in fact the series was actually created by Creator/{{Nelvana}} for its then-rival Creator/{{YTV}}. This likely has to do with the fact it was one of several Canadian imports brought over stateside in the late 2000s/early 2010s alongside several Teletoon series and a few other YTV shows occasionally confused by non-Canadians as Teletoon series.
* CreatorsFavorite: Todd Kauffman considers Trevor Troublemeyer to be his favorite character.
* InvisibleAdvertising: Outside of the series premiere, Cartoon Network never advertised the series, the schedule and "coming up next" bumpers were the only way to know when new episodes were airing.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** The ''WesternAnimation/{{Funpak}}'' shorts had a few different voice actors than the TV series: Eric was voiced by Creator/PeterOldring instead of Miklos Perlous, Vana and Kitty [[ActingForTwo were both voiced by]] Creator/StephanieBeard instead of Creator/StephanieAnneMills and Creator/DeniseOliver respectvely, and Professor Pamplemoose was voiced by Alex Nussbaum instead of Creator/PatrickMcKenna. Funny enough, Alex Nussbaum worked on the full ''Sidekick'' series as one of the show's writers.
** In the Italian dub, during season 1 Eric was voiced by Creator/DavidePerino and Kitty by Creator/LauraLatini. In season 2 they were respectively recast with Creator/GabrielePatriarca and Creator/IlariaLatini. While it's unknown why the former happened, the latter was because of Laura Latini's death in the meantime.
* RoleReprise: When the ''Funpak'' shorts were picked up for a full series, Creator/ChristianPotenza (Trevor), Creator/ScottMcCord (Martin), Creator/RonRubin (Master XOX), and Creator/TonyDaniels (Maxum Brain) were the only actors from the shorts to reprise their roles for the series.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The series was initially treated fairly well by Cartoon Network despite getting mixed reception from viewers of the channel when it debuted in June 2011, as it was given a decent amount of airtime and promotion for over a year. In October 2012, however, it was abruptly taken off Cartoon Network's schedule with no explanation. Some viewers believe this was due to CN making room on their line-up to air programs celebrating the channel's 20th anniversary that month, but the series did not return to the network after the celebration was over, despite still having one more season to go. Even when the channel's ''WesternAnimation/CartoonPlanet'' block (previously dedicated exclusively to showing Cartoon Network's pre-2010 original programs) began to air reruns of fellow Creator/{{YTV}} cartoons ''WesternAnimation/AlmostNakedAnimals'' and ''WesternAnimation/ScaredySquirrel'' in 2013 (the year ''Sidekick'''s third and final season began premiering in the show's native country), it didn't air this show. However, the series would evenutally find new life on Creator/{{Qubo}} (partially owned by its creators, Creator/{{Nelvana}}), where all the season 3 episodes of ''Sidekick'' finally made their U.S. debuts when the series began broadcasting there in March 2017, with the channel continuing to air reruns of the show until July 2020.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Todd Kauffman has shared early concept art for the characters through [[http://neptoonstudios.blogspot.com/2005/11/sidekick-characters.html his blogs]] and [[https://www.instagram.com/p/CQUOn68jBMl/?utm_medium=tumblr social media]], revealing a number of design differences that were not present in the ''Funpak'' shorts.
** Maxum Man was originally named Mega Man, presumably changed to avoid confusion with the other, better-known VideoGame/MegaMan. Also, his chest emblem had two M's instead of just one and he had a narrower head shape.
** Early designs for Eric did not incorporate the so-called "Neptoon Skull" (the same stylized skull seen on Duncan's shirt in ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' and Corey's hat in ''WesternAnimation/{{Grojband}}''), with the character instead wearing a formal uniform similar to that of Kitty. He also had a much larger, rounder head, with a much longer, curvier nose.
** Trevor's dad originally wore glasses and had a white shirt instead of a blue one.
* WrittenByCastMember: Miklos Perlous, the voice of Eric, wrote at least two episodes (both in the last season) one of which was "[[GrandFinale Graduation Daze]]".
