* BillingDisplacement: Katherine [=McNamara=] is given prominent billing – possibly due to her role in ''{{Series/Shadowhunters}}''. She only appears in the first few scenes and does not reappear until the end. Nathalie Emmanuel and Jacob Loftland are also billed high, yet have ten minutes of screen time.
* DirectedByCastMember: In the Latin Spanish dub, Creator/JoseAntonioMacias was the ADR Director and the station chief's voice actor.
* EnforcedMethodActing: [[spoiler: When Thomas is reading Newt's letter in the ending scene, Creator/ThomasBrodieSangster was sitting just off camera. He read the letter aloud to help get a genuine reaction out of Dylan O'Brien]].
* MilestoneCelebration: The film was released exactly two months after James Dashner's 45th birthday.
* NoStuntDouble: Kaya Scodelario performed her own stunts for the film.
* OnSetInjury: Creator/DylanOBrien nearly lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while filming an action scene. This left him several injuries including brain trauma, and forced the production to be shut down for six months.
* RealLifeRelative: In the Latin Spanish dub, Alejandro Orozco reprised his role as Gally and his older brother Luis Fernando voiced Thomas in the first trailer.
* RealLifeWritesTheHairstyle: Brenda's hair is longer than it was in the previous film because Rosa Salazar had grown it out for ''Film/AlitaBattleAngel''. Ironically it's now closer to the book's description of her hair.
* RealitySubtext: Creator/ThomasBrodieSangster wrote Newt's letter on his own.
* ReleaseDateChange: The film was scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017, but Fox delayed it several times until they finally settled on a January 26, 2018 release date because of Creator/DylanOBrien's head injury while filming.
* ThrowItIn: The shot that Dylan O'Brien injured himself doing – jumping from the window of a moving car to the WCKD train – is used in the film. Dylan gave his approval for it to be used, saying "I would be more heartbroken than if it just went to waste."
* TroubledProduction: Creator/DylanOBrien suffered a serious head injury while filming on location in Vancouver on March 14, 2016, four days after principal photography commenced. Production was originally scheduled to resume on May 9, 2016 after O'Brien recovered, with principal photography completing on July 26. Once Fox realized the seriousness of O'Brien's injuries, however, production was shut down indefinitely on April 29, 2016. Production would resume on March 6, 2017.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Producers considered [[DividedForAdaptation splitting the book into two films]], as had been done with ''{{Film/Twilight}}'', ''Film/TheHungerGames'', and ''Film/HarryPotter''. After the lukewarm receptions to the Part Ones of the former two and the flopping of ''The Divergent Series: Allegiant'' (intended to be a Part One for the ''{{Literature/Divergent}}'' finale) they went with just one film.
