* MarthDebutedInSmashBros:
** [[VideoGame/QuizNanairoDreams Saki Omokane]], a character who would've remained in [[http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/quiznanairo/quiznanairo.htm an obscure Japan-only trivia game]] had it not been for her appearance. She would later join the Vs. Series via ''VideoGame/TatsunokoVsCapcom''.
** Most fans had no clue who [[VideoGame/{{Cyberbots}} Jin or Devilotte]] were when they made their debut in this crossover.
* TheOtherDarrin: Jin is voiced by Creator/YujiUeda, taking over from Creator/ToruFuruya in ''VideoGame/{{Cyberbots}}''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** An [[OriginalGeneration original]] and [[JokeCharacter intentionally underpowered]] character, Tomichin (a parody of designer Atsushi Tomita), was originally planned as one of the Assist Partners, but couldn't make it into the game. This was likely due to Tomichin being an {{Expy}} of [[Series/SesameStreet Bert]], which could've resulted in Capcom getting a lawsuit from Creator/SesameWorkshop.
** Iron Man was slated to be a part of the roster, but rights issues prevented his inclusion much like ''VideoGame/MarvelSuperHeroesVsStreetFighter''. War Machine was selected to take his place as a PaletteSwap, and Iron Man would not rejoin the series until ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom2''.
** Ravel the Elf from ''VideoGame/TheKingOfDragons'' was considered as a Special Partner, and [[https://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=2041&image=9 got as far as the concept art stage,]] but was cut because the art director felt he was making a game not tailored to his preferences. Lancelot from ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheRound'' was also considered.
** Comicbook/{{Galactus}} was considered for the final boss, but Marvel denied Capcom permission to use the character because they felt he was too powerful to be defeated in a simple physical confrontation. 13 years later, Marvel relented as Galactus appears as the final boss in ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3''.
** Comicbook/HowardTheDuck and Comicbook/SheHulk were considered for the roster, but Tomita shot them down because he thought their comedic nature would clash with the tone of the game. Employees from Capcom USA apparently also weren't hot on Howard appearing, due to the colossal failure of [[Film/HowardTheDuck his movie]]. Instead, they suggested ComicBook/SpiderHam. Like Galactus, She-Hulk made the cut for ''Marvel vs. Capcom 3''.
