!!Trivia tropes for the series as a whole:
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Anime and Meta]]
* BoxOfficeBomb: The movie ''Sweets Dance Princess''. [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-08-19/japanese-box-office-august-11-12 It debuted at no.14 in the box office, grossing only US$355,395 on 106 screens from August 11–12]], [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-08-26/japanese-box-office-august-18-19 and fell from the list a week later]]. As a result, it became a StillbornFranchise.
* CashCowFranchise: In Japan, anyway. The franchise started as plush toys and has spawned an anime with over 300 episodes, a movie, and a few {{licensed game}}s, among other adaptations and pieces of merchandise.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: An April 6, 2011 blog post from Sanrio's American branch ("Hello Kitty Blog") called Sapphie ("Sapphire") a "rabbit" instead of a dog/puppy.
* InvisibleAdvertising: How the franchise is treated by Sanrio's American branch. When Sanrio decided to finally release Jewelpet merchandise in the United States to numerous Sanrio Boutique stores for a limited time, they only announced it on their "Hello Kitty Blog" on April 6th, 2011 and April 8th, 2016 and gave the Jewelpet franchise zero advertisement to their other social media accounts and websites.
* LateExportForYou: Certain seasons took a while to get released in certain countries.
** ''Twinkle'' premiered in 2010 in Japan. Its first Indonesian airing occured in 2014.
** ''Kira Deco!'' premiered in 2012 in Japan and 2014 in Portugal.
** The final season, ''Magical Change'', started its Japanese run in 2015 but didn't get televised in Hong Kong until 2019.
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: Ruby, Garnet and Sapphie showed up in a 2011 ''Franchise/HelloKitty'' Nintendo DS game [[https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51tGnQuhjkL.jpg called "Loving Life with Hello Kitty & Friends"]], making their one and only American debut despite the franchise being barred there.
* NoExportForYou: The anime and the toys were not released in the States due to similarity issues with ''VideoGame/{{Webkinz}}''; both Sanrio and Sega could get sued for it. [[note]]And even if that problem didn't exist, America wouldn't even think of licensing child-oriented, MagicalGirl shows.[[/note]] But it's released in much of Europe and Asia.
** Not even Sanrio's American Branch acknowledge the existence of the Franchise, due to being a joint venture project with Sega Japan. And of course, bringing the series to the US would mean getting Sega of America involved and a lot of licensing issues be resolved first.
** Sanrio America did acknowledge the existence of the franchise at least three times in the past. Once was back [[http://www.hellokitty.com/hellokittyblog/buzz/jewelpets/ in 2011]] [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160609164635/http://www.hellokitty.com/hellokittyblog/?page=156 and 2016]] [[note]] According to the blog post from April 8th, 2011. They sold a free Jewelpet file folder along with other Jewelpet merch for a limited time at select "Sanrio Boutique" stores across America. [[/note]] that was on there official "Hello Kitty Blog" which includes a brief character description for the main Jewelpets. The second is in the 2011 Nintendo DS game "Loving Life With Hello Kitty & Friends" [[https://cdn02.nintendo-europe.com/media/images/10_share_images/games_15/nintendo_ds_22/SI_NDS_LovingLifeWithHelloKittyAndFriends_image1600w.jpg which features Ruby, Garnet, and Sapphie]] alongside other Sanrio characters. However Sanrio America these days only bring up the franchise once a blue moon and most Americans who heard about the franchise are ones who have access to the Internet (Especially if they are Anime/Manga fans). And in the early half of TheNewTens, some Sanrio gift shops sold merchandises from the franchise like bags and pens with the characters on them.
** And even then some parts of Asia aren't getting it - you'll be hard-pressed to find ''Jewelpet anything'' in Malaysia, short of visiting the Sanrio Hello Kitty Town theme park in South Malaysia, near the Singapore border, and even then the selections are very limited. Even the Sanrio Gift Gate stores that are springing up in malls around the country are lacking ''Jewelpet'' merch. Comparatively, ''Jewelpet'' stuff is abundant in Singapore and Thailand, Malaysia's immediate neighbors. This is very strange as Malaysian TV stations typically have no qualms with airing MagicalGirl TV shows.
** The toys made it to Brazil. The same can't be said of the anime.
** France so far hasn't moved past ''Twinkle'' (though they got the movie on DVD). Ditto Taiwan and Saudi Arabia.
** Italy, Russia, the Czech Republic, the Philippines and possibly Greece stuck to the first season.
** South Korea didn't get ''Happiness'' for some reason, but it got ''Lady''.
* OfficialFanSubmittedContent: Certain Jewelpets are the result of character design contests held by Sanrio during the airing of the anime. One of the major Jewelpets, Labra the labradorite polar bear, was the winner of the original 2009 series' contest.
* ReleaseDateChange: The [[UsefulNotes/CoronavirusDisease2019Pandemic COVID-19 pandemic]] forced Sanrio to delay the short film ''Jewelpet Attack Travel!'' from its original intended release date of February 7th, 2020. Fortunately, it gets a direct-to-DVD release as part of the Blu-ray release of ''Anime/JewelpetSunshine'' on July 27, 2022.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: Another reason why Sanrio's American branch rarely brings up any of the characters from the Jewelpet franchise compared to Japan (such as live appearances at Sanrio Puroland and Harmonyland, and prominent on their Japanese site) is due to being a co-creation with Sega (via Sega Toys). However, Sega's American and Japanese branch are infamous for not getting along. [[LoopholeAbuse That didn't stop Sanrio's American branch from acknowledging the Jewelpet series at least three times in the past.]] [[note]] The Jewelpets was first mentioned in [[http://www.hellokitty.com/hellokittyblog/buzz/jewelpets/ in 2011]] and [[https://web.archive.org/web/20160609164635/http://www.hellokitty.com/hellokittyblog/?page=156 2016]] that was on there official "Hello Kitty Blog" which includes a brief character description for the main Jewelpets (Ruby, Garnet, Sapphie, Labra, and Peridot). The second is the 2011 Nintendo DS game "Loving Life With Hello Kitty & Friends" which features Ruby, Garnet, and Sapphie alongside other Sanrio characters. And in the early half of Main/TheNewTens, some Sanrio gift shops sold merchandises from the franchise like bags and pens with the characters on them. [[/note]] The same can be said for the ''Rilu Rilu Fairilu'' franchise, Sanrio's second character franchise that was co-created with Sega Toys.
* TheShelfOfMovieLanguishment: The aforementioned ''Jewelpet Attack Travel'' movie. No word has been heard of it since it was pushed back.
* ToylessToylineCharacter: The original webgurumi plushes never finished the original Jewelpet lineup. Ryl, Tata, Topaz, Amelie and Brownie prototypes were shown at a toy fair but it is unknown if they had any sort of release while Kris, Yuku, Io, Nephrite, Lapis, Nyx and Alex were excluded completely.
** The later Jewelpets Granite and Coal also did not get any sort of toys at all.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: During the pitching for the first series, Ruby was meant to be a polite and tidy character. Then Sanrio and Sega decided to alter her personality to become scatterbrained and naughty, which is reflected by the jewel she is based on.

[[folder:Voice Acting]]
* ActingForTwo: Natural result of having too many characters. For sanity's sake and to save space, we'll list just a few examples - Creator/JunkoTakeuchi voices 4 characters, Creator/JunFukuyama voices 3, Creator/AkiToyosaki voices 4, Creator/AyaHirano voices 5 and Creator/MiyukiSawashiro voices 6.
* ChildrenVoicingChildren: 7-year-old Princess Mana is voiced by the 2004-born Creator/ManaAshida. ''Sweets Dance Princess'' came out in 2012.
* CrossDressingVoices:
** Among Jewelpets, there's Tour, Nephrite, Titana, Chite, Rald, Kohaku, Yuku, Tata, Kris, Io, Alex and Brownie.
** The Sweetspets Park, [=DonaDona=], Kaco and Coron.
* TheDanza: MAKO voices the Sweetspet Maco.
** From TheMovie, Princess Mana is voiced by Mana Ashida
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Jewelina is voiced by a different actress in every season.
** Sango is voiced by Rei Sakai in the first season and by Creator/AiShimizu from ''Twinkle'' onwards.
** Luna is voiced by Creator/RumiShishido for the first six seasons and by misono in ''Magical Change''.
** Aqua is voiced by Yakkun Sakurazuka in the first two seasons and by Kosuke Okano from ''Sunshine'' onwards.
** Milky is an odd one; voiced by Keiko Utsumi in the first season, Creator/AyanaTaketatsu took over for ''Twinkle'', but then it reverted to Keiko Utsumi in ''Sunshine'' and she continued voicing her in following seasons.
** Rin is voiced by Mayu Hayakawa from the first season to ''Kira Deco'' and by Akari Harashima in ''Happiness''. She has no speaking lines in ''Lady'' or ''Magical Change''.
* PopCultureUrbanLegends: IMDB has several listings for English dubs of the shows that were produced in Canada, as well as one of the movie, on several filmographies of Canadian actors, including Creator/ShannonChanKent as Garnet. They are likely fake, as there's no evidence proving their existence.
* RoleReprise: In ''Jewelpet Attack Travel'', Creator/TakeshiKusao and Creator/KazukiYao reprised their roles as [[Anime/NGKnightLamune40 Baba Lamune and Da Cider]] respectively [[note]] Listed as "Train Conductor" and "Driver" respectively [[/note]]
* WomanOfAThousandVoices: Every protagonist in the Portuguese dub is voiced by the same actress, Solange Santos (who also voices [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Twilight Sparkle]]). That doesn't sound like anything special by itself, but then you compare Akari and Kanon, who couldn't be more opposite if they tried, and you can't help but be impressed.
