!! The band:
* ApprovalOfGod: Adam has praised Julien Baker's {{cover version}} of "Accident Prone" from ''Dear You''.
* PromotedFanboy: They were big fans of Music/SteveAlbini and his work long before working with him themselves on ''24 Hour Revenge Therapy''.

!! The film:
* ActorInspiredElement: Creator/RoseMcGowan already had a tattoo and the filmmakers initially planned to cover it up, but ultimately left it in to give Courtney more of an edge.
* BillingDisplacement: Although all three on the poster are major characters, Creator/JudyGreer is not on it, despite arguably being the protagonist as well as the narrator, and being more important than Creator/JulieBenz.
* CastTheRunnerUp: Creator/RebeccaGayheart auditioned for both Fran and Marcie before getting cast as Julie.
* CreatorKiller: Darren Stein's directing career was badly impacted, after this film failed in its initial release with a negative reception and box office performance. Though it was reevaluated more positively recently, he since has found it difficult getting a project made. Stein's last directed a film in 2013 with ''Film/{{GBF}}''
* DawsonCasting: The four female main characters were well in their twenties when filming took place. This was intentionally done by the Director as an homage to films like ''Film/{{Grease}}'' and ''Film/Carrie1976'' where teens are played by actors who are clearly far too old.
* EnforcedMethodActing: For the scene where Courtney slams Vylette against the bathroom mirror, Darren Stein told Judy Greer to blow smoke in Rose [=McGowan=]'s face. Rose didn't know this would happen, and so the bit where she takes the cigarette away from Judy and tosses it on the floor was improvised (as she didn't like the smoke).
* MidDevelopmentGenreShift: Darren Stein initially wrote this to be a horror film, but then he realized halfway through that what he was writing was a dark comedy.
* NoBudget: Just made for $3.5 million.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Charlotte Ayanna was starring in ''Film/TheRageCarrie2'' the same year playing a scheming AlphaBitch. Here, her character Liz was actually a LovableAlphaBitch.
** Rose [=McGowan=] mildly. She usually played disaffected characters, rather than a high school mean girl.
* StuntCasting: Rose [=McGowan=]'s casting was a condition for getting the film financed by Columbia Tri-Star.
* WagTheDirector:
** Courtney's metallic hair bands at the prom came about because Rose [=McGowan=] saw Rebecca Gayheart leaving the hair and makeup trailer with her hair done in flowers, and that provoked her competitive streak. She supposedly went in and demanded that she have a more impressive hairstyle.
** Rose also hated the "life's a bitch, then you die" line and tried to get it cut. When she was ordered to say it, she delivered it with DullSurprise in the hopes they wouldn't use it. Her blase delivery ended up making the line more famous.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/RachaelLeighCook auditioned for the role of Julie, reading the scene where the three girls discover Liz is dead.
** A graphic sex scene between Courtney and Marilyn Manson's character had to be cut down to avoid an NC-17 rating.
** Rose [=McGowan=] supposedly wanted to play Fern/Vylette but Darren Stein refused.
