* AscendedFanfic: ''Jackass Forever'' adapts "Bee Bush", one of the copycat stunts from the ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' episode "[[Recap/FamilyGuyS7E5TheManwithTwoBrians The Man with Two Brians]]" (in which Knoxville briefly cameoed), as the new version of the Bee-kini.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: The Chinese releases loosely translate to ''Stupid Funny Show''.
* DevelopmentHell: Plans for a fourth ''Jackass'' film were announced in 2019, but its production was stalled in early 2020 due to the UsefulNotes/Covid19Pandemic. It was able to resume filming in December of that year, but it resulted in Steve-O and Knoxville having to get hospitalized for injuries, and a month later Margera announced that he wouldn't be in it due to his mental troubles and alcoholism (although one scene he already filmed made it to the final product). The film ultimately did complete shooting, however, and was subsequently officially titled ''Jackass Forever''.
* ExecutiveMeddling:
** After season one, MTV handed Knoxville and company a list of things that they were not allowed to do as far as content goes.
** When Sen. Joe Lieberman tried to get the show banned, MTV caved in almost immediately, pulling all reruns (which was in season two by that point) and forcing Knoxville to revise the show's warning so as to read it out loud to viewers. Lieberman's actions also squashed plans for a "Jackass: Too Hot for TV" video release.
** For reasons that should be incredibly obvious, MTV absolutely refused to air the part of the self defense sketch where Knoxville shoots a real bullet into his bulletproof vest while wearing it, and overruled them on putting it on the [=DVDs=], too.
* FollowTheLeader:
** ''Jackass'' spawned many shows in the same vein, including ''Crazy Monkey'', ''Dude, What Would Happen'' and ''Rad Girls''. Sometimes, MTV itself did this (with ''Dirty Sanchez'' and ''Rob Dyrdek's Ridiculousness''). Ironically, ''Jackass'' itself is derived at least in part by [=SuperDave=] Osborne, a [[TheParody parody]] of daredevil stuntmen like Evel Kneivel, played by comedian Creator/BobEinstein. Einstein himself didn't like the comparison, pointing out in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa-Otn02mtY this interview]] that his antics as Super Dave were almost impossible to emulate.
** In France, there's the film ''Film/TheElevenCommandments''.
* InMemoriam: ''Film/BadGrandpa'', ''Forever'', and ''4.5'' are all dedicated to Ryan Dunn, who had passed away in a fatal car accident on June 20, 2011.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The only full, uncut episode available on DVD is the hour-long Gumball Rally episode, only available on the bonus disc for a box set. All three seasons are only legally available via a series of "Best Of..." compilations (with volumes 2 and 3 having two releases, with the re-release featuring extra sketches) and a "Lost Tape" compilation, which has all the opening/ending sequences and the MIA sketches that didn't make the previous three [=DVDs=].
** Further adding to the mix, the season one "best of..." set was delayed for about 6 years due to feuding between the ''Jackass'' crew and MTV; while Knoxville and company have full control over content for the DVD releases, MTV outright refused to let them release season one on DVD due to their not wanting to let the gang wanting to release the ''Big Brother'' magazine sketches uncensored. Knoxville and company finally caved, meaning that you'll have to track down the original ''Big Brother'' magazine VHS tapes for the full version of the self-defense test sketch.
** In 2021, one Website/{{Reddit}}or created "The Ultimate Restored Definitive" (TURD) edition to [=GitHub=], a reconstruction of how the show originally aired, using better quality sources than the existing TV rips.
** As of April 1, 2022, all episodes of the ''Jackass'' series are available for streaming on Creator/ParamountPlus, including ''The Lost Tapes'', which are organized as a fourth season. Much of the copyrighted music is still replaced with public domain songs, however, due to licensing issues.
** ''Jackass: Too Hot for TV'', which got killed when Lieberman started making noise against the show. It actually became lost media for decades before a VHS-quality copy surfaced in 2021.
* OnSetInjury: The show is no stranger to injuries since it has the cast doing dangerous stunts under supervision. But some have been more serious then others, especially during the films. Examples include concussions, blood clots, fractured bones and ribs, nasty gashes from being pierced or gored, losing teeth and a lot of near-fatal misses. A lot of this portrayed directly on-screen after a stunt.
* PromotedFanboy: Most of the new recruits in ''Jackass Forever'' admitted either on-camera or in interviews to being fans of the original show when they were children.
* RoleEndingMisdemeanor: Bam Margera was let go from ''Jackass Forever'' at some point in 2020 or 2021 due to substance abuse issues. After being fired, Margera went through a meltdown on social media, which included bashing the producers and seeking funding to finance a competing movie. More seemed to go on behind the scenes, as Tremaine, who used to fight to keep him on, ended up filing a temporary restraining order. Margera still appeared in one scene that was shot before his firing.
* ShortLivedBigImpact: For as huge of a pop culture staple as it is, it's easy to forget the original series lasted ''less than a year''. With 3 short seasons (At 8 episodes a pop) running from October 2000 to August 2001.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** According to April Margera, when asked if they were able to get away with naming a tv show, “Jackass”, she was told that the original name was actually supposed to be “Asshole”, but they were told that they couldn’t name it that.
** When the idea for the show was first being considered, the original format of the show would have been more coherent, such as by having Knoxville host the show behind a desk or in front of a studio audience. However, once Spike Jonze was brought on as a producer, he suggested that it just have the same format as the Big Brother and CKY videos, where it simply just transitions from one clip to the next. However, the original idea for the format of showing clips in front of a studio audience would be reused for “Ridiculousness”.
** The first pitch for the show was for Creator/{{HBO}} instead of MTV. However, Jeff Tremaine mentioned that he pitched it to two older women who seemed taken aback by it, and said it was one of the most awkward meetings he ever had. Unsurprisingly, they said no.
** MTV (who owns the rights to the name ''Jackass'') seriously considered making a Season 4 with all-new cast members, and even put out a teaser promo in the 2002 VMA Awards. Thankfully, they refrained when the reaction to the news was extremely negative.
** Besides Rip Taylor, Tony Hawk, and Matt Hoffman, there were more celebrities lined up to appear in the first movie. However, most of them rejected the stunts they were presented with to the point that practically all of them dropped out. This was more or less remedied with each following movie, since each features more appearances from special guests, though many of them usually prefer to be spectators rather than participating in the stunt most of the time.
** Bam's uncle Don Vito (who appeared in ''Viva La Bam'') was to be in ''Jackass Number Two'' a great deal (you can see the original Lambo-tooth-pull in the trailer used against him), but a judge ordered all scenes relevant to him cut after being convicted of child molestation.
** The Terror Taxi very nearly got here — they nearly got stopped by police twice, and Jay Chandrasekhar kept going off the rails (the police were told about the skit, but they still set up a damn roadblock), and two bystanders called the cops.
*** They were also about to attach squibs to the fake dynamite to scare Ehren more, but the Fire Marshall told them they had to more or less ruin the prank.
** A tie-in soundtrack album was planned shortly after debut, but never came to be. The film soundtracks can be considered a sort of rectification, as they include a lot of the original music made for the TV series, such as the Party Boy theme and "If You're Gonna Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough".
** According to Steve-O, the original guest star of the "Off-road Tattoo" scene was gonna be [[Music/MotleyCrue Nikki Sixx]], but Nikki had to drop out at the last minute.
** The crew were planned to take part in a WWE storyline that would've culminated with a match against Wrestling/{{Umaga}} at ''Wrestling/{{SummerSlam}}'' in 2007, but dropped out due to the negative publicity surrounding the company following the Wrestling/ChrisBenoit double murder and suicide. However, the early stages of the storyline had already played out on ''Wrestling/WWERaw'', with Umaga attacking Pontius and Steve-O (who appeared as guest hosts), and early advertisements for the event depicted an enraged Umaga standing above the crew (minus the absent Bam Margera and Ryan Dunn) buried up to their necks on a tropical beach. However, the crew would give WWE a second go in early 2022 around the time of the release of ''Jackass Forever'', which included having Johnny Knoxville participate in the 2022 Men's Wrestling/RoyalRumble, and in turn getting into a meta feud with Wrestling/SamiZayn.
** Around the time the original MTV pilot was going to be produced, ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' offered Knoxville five-minute slots to air stunts as pre-recorded segments. However, as ''SNL'' specifically wanted just Knoxville without the rest of the cast, and he couldn't do both, Knoxville chose MTV.
