* BigBrotherIsWatching: Whoever approves the comments replaces crude ones with snark. From [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1650 Page 1650]]:
-->'''Typical Reader''': HEY GUYS LET'S MAKE CREEPY SEXUAL JOKES ABOUT 14 YEAR OLDS\
'''Gordon''': I am a kiddy fiddler.\
'''stefan_san''': I am a child molester.\
'''mrs anderson''': I am a pedophile.\
'''deena''': I am a filthy nonce.\
'''Watch''': I don't understand how the comment system works, perhaps because I am a simpleton.
%% * ColbertBump: Thanks to Creator/NeilGaiman.
* DVDCommentary: Tom started a series of videos with comments on each chapter of the comic. You can find the first one [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9oF6ogesUA&list=UUqtG2TZZWm-iKJq2-Vzm4Jg here]].
* MilestoneCelebration: Zig-Zagged-- while chapter 50 does reveal a little more about the transfer students from the Woods it ends very abruptly during a mundane situation (Annie realizes she's interrupting Paz and Kat's reunion at the end of the summer and goes to check on Rey). Chapter 51, however, was not only published during the comic's 10th anniversary, but [[spoiler: opens with Anthony Carver suddenly appearing as one of Annie's teachers and ''everybody'' gossiping about it while Annie just sits in shock]].
* ReclusiveArtist: Tom Siddell is known for being very private about his personal life. All we know for sure about him is that he lives in Birmingham, used to have a job as a graphic artist at an undisclosed video game company, and is married to [[Webcomic/MonsterPulse Magnolia Porter]].
* ScheduleSlip: Not the webcomic itself -- Tom has maintained a 30-page StripBuffer since day one -- but both published volumes didn't hit shelves until months after they were scheduled to come out. The delay of ''Orientation'' was bad enough that Tom thought Archaia was defaulting on the publishing contract.
* SeriesHiatus: Several times, each one lasting at least two weeks, and coinciding with the end of each book.
** The first was after the end of ''Chapter 14: The Fangs of Summertime''. In the timespan between this chapter and ''Chapter 15: Red Returns'', bonus material and guest comics filled that void.
** The second hiatus occurred after ''Chapter 22: Ties'', and this time it was the {{omake}} ''Webcomic/CityFace''.
** The third hiatus happened after ''Chapter 31: Fire Spike'', and, like the second time, featured ''City Face 2''.
** The fourth hiatus happened after ''Chapter 41: Changes'', and featured in-universe cartoons about City Face, ostensibly drawn by some of the comic's main characters.
** The fifth hiatus occurred after ''Chapter 49: The Torn Sea'', and featured ''City Face's Book of Birds'', a "handy reference for the beginner and expert bird watcher" that is nothing of the sort.
** The sixth hiatus followed the [[spoiler: CliffHanger ending]] of ''Chapter 59: Jeanne'', this time featuring a City Face themed activity booklet.
* TeasingCreator: Tom Siddell has been riding on the unexpected plot twists that seem to be the complete opposite of which the readers where hoping. Examples? Nearly every author comment is a sarcastic response about the comic. Every time something happens, he says [[AuthorCatchphrase "Mystery Solved!"]] [[ShipSinking MANY ships have been burned]], as exemplified by [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=928 this strip.]] There's basically a ''TakeThat'' directed to [[FanHater those specific readers]] in EVERY CHAPTER.
** Chapter 40 is essentially a long, drawn-out series of scenes continuously depicting Jones throughout the ages, getting progressively longer and longer, without actually explaining ''what'' Jones is, culminating with [[spoiler: Jones being present at the formation of the planet]]. At the end, Jones finally tells Annie that she [[spoiler: doesn't even know what she is]], with Tom's comment being, [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=1115 well....]]
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: According to [[WordOfGod Tom's Formspring]], Zimmy (a.k.a. Zeta) and Gamma were originally to star in a comic idea known as ''Alphabet Soup'' (hence their names). It was also mentioned that Zimmy was around before even that and used to look quite different. Also, Tom considered naming Annie [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imogen_%28Shakespeare%29 Imogen]] before his idea for ''Gunnerkrigg Court'' consolidated in his mind.
** He's mentioned later on that he might still want to do the comic about Zimmy and Gamma as a spin-off prequel of ''Gunnerkrigg Court'', some day.
*** After receiving a considerable amount of steady donations of Patreon, he has promised to make this comic reality in the near future.
* WordOfGod: Tom Siddell frequently posts on the forum or ShoutBox to clear up confusion or give background info. There's an [[http://gunnerkrigg.wikia.com/wiki/Word_of_Tom article]] in the GC Wiki for an index of such information. He also has a [[http://www.formspring.me/gunnerkrigg Formspring account]] where he answers questions about the story, and a [[http://twitter.com/#!/gunnerkrigg Twitter account]]. Somebody built a handy search engine of the 3000+ questions he answered, which can be found [[http://chrysoprax.org/gunnerkrigg/ here]].
