----
* CreatorsFavorite: Akira Ifukube considered ''Godzilla vs. Destoroyah'' to be his best work as a composer.
* DeletedScene: An unfinished scene that was filmed shows that Destoroyah was to have the ability to [[ChestBlaster fire an energy beam from the floral pattern on his chest]] known as the "[[WaveMotionGun Wave-Motion Ray]]". He was to fire it at least once during the final battle, but it was cut relatively late into production. The complete footage exists, but without the beam itself edited in, as this would have been done in post.
* TheOtherDarrin: Masahiro Takashima takes over the part of the returning Sho Kuroki from his brother Masanobu, who played him in ''Film/GodzillaVsBiollante''.
* RoleReprise: Momoko Kochi returns as Emiko Yamane for the first time since ''Film/Godzilla1954''. Despite Akira Takarada being still-living at this time, his character, Ogata, is never seen or mentioned, implying that he died sometime after the events of 1954.
* SwanSong:
** The film was Momoko Kochi's final performance as Emiko Yamane, as well as her final role.
** It was also the 12th and final ''Godzilla'' film to be composed by Akira Ifukube.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The original story was Godzilla fighting the ghost of the original Godzilla, but the idea was scrapped due to the last two films featuring Godzilla impostors as antagonists. So instead, they used elements of the [[Film/Godzilla1954 original film]] and made out a monster born from the very weapon that killed the first Godzilla. Anguirus was originally to be a part of this scrapped idea as a guest character. The Ghost Godzilla idea was later revisited in ''Film/GodzillaMothraKingGhidorahGiantMonstersAllOutAttack''.
** Godzilla fighting a prophesized BeastOfTheApocalypse was another plot considered, with an upgraded [[Film/VaranTheUnbelievable Varan]] and the repeatedly rejected Bagan being considered for the role.
** Another idea that ultimately morphed into this movie was an idea known as "''Godzilla vs. Barubaroi''," a film in which Godzilla (who was instead dying from cancer) and Junior were to fight a shape-shifting monster known as ''Barubaroi''. The best way to describe this idea was what if Godzilla fought [[Film/TheThing1982 the Thing]] (and no, [[Film/MothraVsGodzilla not that Thing...]]) Anguirus was also considered for this version of the film, as one of Barubaroi's victims.
** Junior's resurrection was originally a [[TheStinger stinger]], but Toho felt no one would see the scene by the time the film was over. So it was put as a final scene.
** Originally, the plan for the series following this film was to take a break and let the American series run. Then, Toho would resume making new films in 2005. Of course, the 1998 remake happened, and since interest in the series in Japan was still quite high (with the remake helping to bolster this interest, controversy aside), Toho - having continued to make Tokusatsu films in the form of the ''Rebirth of Mothra'' trilogy - made it so that Godzilla's break ended after only four years with ''Film/Godzilla2000''.
* YouLookFamiliar: Saburo Shinoda previously played Professor Fukazawa in ''Film/GodzillaAndMothraTheBattleForEarth''; here he plays Secretary Kunitomo. The Heisei Godzilla movies generally did a better job avoiding the reuse of actors compared to the Showa movies, but this case was a last minute recast because the actor slated to play Kunitomo was hospitalized shortly after filming started.
