Context Trivia / Elektra

Go To

* BoxOfficeBomb: Budget, $43 million. Box office, $24,409,722 (domestic), $56,681,556 (worldwide). The only Marvel films that grossed lower than this film are ''Film/ManThing'', ''Film/PunisherWarZone'' and ''Film/TheNewMutants''.
* ChristmasRushed: The film was rushed into production and release. Producer Avi Arad admitted it was a mistake to do so.
* ContractualObligationProject: Creator/JenniferGarner only did the movie due to contractual obligations from ''Film/Daredevil2003''.
* CreatorBacklash: Creator/JenniferGarner revealed that she felt that the movie was awful, according to Creator/MichaelVartan. He said that she told him that she only did the movie because it was in her contract thanks to ''Film/Daredevil2003''.
* CreatorKiller: The film killed the cinematic career of director Rob Bowman, whose credits past this point are on TV.
* DeletedRole: Creator/BenAffleck filmed a scene as Matt Murdock, but it was cut for unknown reasons.
* DeletedScene:
** A lot of the deleted scenes on the Director's Cut reveal Elektra's backstory from her childhood.
** Also one where she has a rather steamy dream involving her ex, [[ComicBook/{{Daredevil}} Matt Murdock.]]
* ExecutiveMeddling: The original cut was rated R but had to be toned down due to contractual obligations.
* FranchiseKiller: ''Film/Daredevil2003'' put it on life support, and ''Elektra'' put a firm-sai-into-the-gut into the franchise, for lack of a better analogy. The rights reverted back to Marvel within 7 years and they negated the continuity of the movies.
* GenreKiller: Along with ''Film/Catwoman2004'', ''Elektra'' made female superhero movies toxic for a decade. ''Film/WonderWoman2017'' would be the next major attempt, and was a major hit that finally breathed life into the genre.
* HeyItsThatPlace: The boat house is the same one from ''Film/FiftyShadesOfGrey''.
* LyingCreator: Promotional materials claimed that the film had ties to the ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'', as they were more popular than the ''Daredevil'' film. They only mentioned it as actually being only a ''Daredevil'' spin-off a week before its release. Amusingly, Elektra ultimately ''would'' getting involved in the ''X-Men'' franchise by appearing in ''Film/DeadpoolAndWolverine'', a whopping 19 years after this film's release.
* MissingTrailerScene: Trailers and TV spots show a ring of energy spreading out from the maze in the final action scenes. It does not show up in the final film.
* OnSetInjury: While filming the sai/sword fight, Creator/JenniferGarner accidentally got her knuckles sliced by Creator/WillYunLee. She got her knuckles patched up, and when she and Lee resumed, he subsequently sliced her again in the exact same spot.
* PreviewPiggybacking: Screenings of the film came with the first trailer of ''Film/FantasticFour2005''.
* StarDerailingRole: This film did some damage to Jennifer Garner's career, not helping matters was ''Series/{{Alias}}'' ending around the same time. She found herself in supporting roles and very few leading parts, and those that she did headline were not big enough hits to change her momentum. While she's had some well-received roles, she has yet to regain the former prominence she had.
* UncreditedRole: Creator/JasonIsaacs as De Marco in the first scenes. Also TheCameo.
* YouSoundFamiliar: In the French dub, Creator/BorisRehlinger voiced both Bullseye in ''Film/{{Daredevil|2003}}'' and [=McCabe=] here.
