* CreatorBacklash: Near the end of the series' run, the author was fairly open about the fact that he was a bit burnt out on investing so much of his time and effort into a series that (due to copyright issues) he could never really support himself on. Though as it turns out, [[https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bclev/8-bit-theater-20th-anniversary-book-wait-20-years-son-of-a he could manage to make some money off it]] by turning it into a script.
* {{Defictionalization}}:
** A comic mentions the [[http://www.nuklearpower.com/2008/04/24/episode-983-a-clear-goal/ Sardapedia]]. Once a wiki for ''8-Bit Theater'', and by extension all of Brian Clevinger's work, was made, of course it used that name and [[http://8bittheater.wikia.com/wiki/Castle that "castle" entry]].
** [[http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=36835 Real-life]] Sword Chucks.
* ScheduleSlip:
** Used to update every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 12:00 am without fail, but during the last few months of its run it updated those afternoons instead, or sometimes just skipped updates entirely.
** The epilogue took several weeks, due to its length and radically different art style.
* SerendipityWritesThePlot: Brian Clevinger entered an university class where he would write a 25-page comic. He made it a SpriteComic because he can't draw, and funny so he'd keep being interested in writing. And given his teacher barely saw his e-mail, Clevinger was putting it online. Soon he was getting many page hits, and was having fun writing, so the comic became his full-time job for a while.
* TrollingCreator: The author once accompanied a particular troll-riffic update with a newspost saying "My favourite joke is the one played on the reader."
