* AccidentallyCorrectWriting: General Lunaris and Lieutenant Penumbra consistently insist that the Moon is a planet, calling it the "planet Moon". While this is generally not accepted as true, there is a genuine argument to be made that the Earth-Moon system should be considered a binary planet, primarily due to the Moon being disproportionately massive in comparison to its parent body.[[labelnote:Elaboration]]The Moon is large enough to be spherical under its own gravitational influence, its diameter is about 1/4 of Earth's, and its mass is 1.23% of Earth's. In comparison, Ganymede, the largest moon in the Solar System, has only 0.0078% the mass of Jupiter. Additionally, the center of gravity between the Earth and Moon is about 3/4 of Earth's radius out from its center, making the Earth noticeably wobble around it as the Moon orbits, and the Sun's gravitational effect on the Moon is more than twice that of Earth.[[/labelnote]]
* ActingForTwo: In general if there is an incidental or minor male character, expect them to usually be voiced by Creator/KeithFerguson (who also voices Glomgold) or Eric Bauza (who voices the Beagle Boys) while if there is an incidental or minor female character in the first two seasons, expect the voice to be Kari Wahlgren.
** Jane, the Funzo's Fun Zone waitress that Webby was talking to, was also voiced by Toks Olagundoye, who voices Mrs. Beakley.
** Creator/ChrisDiamantopoulos voices Storkules, [[WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck Drake Mallard]], and Donald when he's doing the voice of his CompanionCube watermelon that sounds like WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse.
** April Winchell voices both Black Heron and Zenith
** In the French dub, Jean-Claude Donda voices Scrooge, Launchpad, and Ludwig Von Drake.
** In the Mexican Spanish dub, Arturo Mercado reprises both Scrooge [=McDuck=] and WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck.
* ActorSharedBackground: Frank Angones [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/175418349616/hello-frank-sorry-if-this-seems-a-little-bit-out revealed]] that they attempted to mostly cast international characters with actors of their respective ethnicity. For example:
** Creator/DavidTennant is Scottish, just like Scrooge himself, making him the first actual Scot to voice the character.
** Gizmoduck becomes Latino, taking inspiration from his voice actor Creator/LinManuelMiranda. To emphasize this, his name has been changed from Fenton Crackshell to Fenton Crackshell-''Cabrera''. The same thing was done for Gosalyn, voiced by Creator/StephanieBeatriz, although her name is kept the same as it was originally.
** Every member of the [=McDuck=] family that's been voiced so far is voiced by a Scottish actor: Creator/GrahamMcTavish voices Fergus [=McDuck=], Ashley Jensen voices Downey [=McDuck=], and Creator/MichelleGomez voices Matilda [=McDuck=].
** Toad Liu Hai, a Chinese spirit, is voiced by Creator/BDWong.
** Bassem Youssef, who provides the voice of Toth-Ra, is Egyptian in real life.
** In "The Spear of Selene!", Zeus, Selene and Storkules are voiced by actors Michael Chiklis, Nia Vardalos and Creator/ChrisDiamantopoulos, who are of Greek descent.
** Don Karnage, a Hispanic pirate, is voiced by Mexican actor Jaime Camil. His ethnicity was not explicit in ''WesternAnimation/TaleSpin'' (where Creator/{{Jim Cummings|1952}} voiced him with JustAStupidAccent), but he has the Spanish "Don" prefix in his name.
** D'jinn, a Middle Eastern warrior, is voiced by Omid Abtahi, an Iranian born actor.
** Dr. Akita, a Japanese [[ADogNamedDog Akita dog]], is voiced by Japanese actor Creator/CaryHiroyukiTagawa. Similarly, Inspector Tezuka, who appears in [[Recap/DuckTales2017S3E6AstroBoyd the same episode]], is voiced by Japanese-American actress Creator/TamlynTomita.
** Jormungandr, a Nordic serpent wrestler, is voiced by Norwegian actor Creator/KristoferHivju.
** One of the few examples of this ''not'' being the case is American Creator/CoreyBurton as Ludwig Von Drake, who is Austrian.
** Though the Three Caballeros' home countries aren't mentioned in this show, the canonically Brazilian Jose Carioca is played by Brazilian-American Bernardo de Paula. To a lesser degree, Mexican Panchito is played by Puerto Rican-Spanish-American Arturo Del Puerto, keeping with the Hispanic representation.
* AdoredByTheNetwork:
** It was renewed for a second season ''before the first season even premiered''. Disney seemed to have a lot of faith in this series' success, perhaps rightly so. After all, the Ducks have a large built-in fanbase, and they have always been one of Disney's major moneymakers.
** The show's first episode aired every hour for the entirety of its August 12th premiere. The following Monday, it was put on Website/YouTube where anyone [[NoExportForYou in the US]] can see it, even if they don't have Creator/DisneyXD in their cable package.
** [[http://www.animationmagazine.net/tv/lin-manuel-miranda-to-make-ducktales-debut-may-11/?doing_wp_cron=1523651895.4235520362854003906250 Ever since]] the announcement that it would move to the [[Creator/DisneyChannel main channel]] in May, the network has been crazy in how it's been treated, from a Ducktales: Treasure Hunt Live event, to a Duck Week starting May 6, and new episodes in ''primetime'' every Friday that month, among other things. They even reuploaded the [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=1408s&v=XcOWOLX1z14 pilot movie]] to the Disney Channel [=YouTube=] page. ''That's dedication.''
** On September 21, 2018, [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n6UXdh6E5Lg the show]] was renewed for a third season even though season 2 ''didn't premiere yet''.
** From June 10 to June 14, 2019, the show had a [[https://twitter.com/DisneySchedules/status/1137830274337845250 huge marathon]], with '''243''' airings, only stopping for ''Anime/BeybladeBurst'' and ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries''.
** In general, ''[=DuckTales=]'' received tons of love from both Disney Channel ''and'' Disney XD. That is, until it got screwed as mentioned below.
** During the week of March 8-15, 2021, Disney XD aired a week long marathon of the series leading up to the series finale.
** Like the series premiere, the series finale aired for ''24 hours nonstop'' on the night of its premiere. Add that with the podcast "This Duckburg Life", and the adoration may not be going away any time soon.
** The show would also receive an art book that came out on November 8, 2022 and has an EPCOT attraction set to be released later that year, so the adoration still hasn't faded even a year after the show's conclusion.
** In 2024, the shows' versions of Scrooge, the triplets, Webby, Gyro, Flintheart, Della, Lena and several places and items such as [=McDuck=] Manor and the Lucky Dime were all included as cards in Disney Lorcana.
* AwesomeDearBoy: [[https://tvline.com/2021/03/15/ducktales-series-finale-gargoyles-moment-explained-keith-david-manny/ According to Frank Angones]], [[spoiler:Creator/KeithDavid]] was very excited to voice [[spoiler:Manny, aka the series version of [[WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}} Goliath]]]], specifically because it meant [[spoiler:he would get to help keep the spirit of Goliath alive]].
* ChannelHop: In May 2018, the show [[https://mobile.twitter.com/DisneyTVA/status/983736479561154560 moved]] to Disney Channel.
** In 2020, [[https://screenrant.com/ducktales-season-3-premiere-date-characters/amp/?__twitter_impression=true premieres]] moved back to Disney XD. The [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/626457479853785088/because-of-how-the-pandemic-extended-the-hiatus reason]] for this was because the crew wanted to better ensure that episodes would be aired in order without the bomb format.
* ChildrenVoicingChildren:
** BOYD was first voiced by 15 year old Nicolas Cantu before being replaced by 13 year old Noah Baird.
** In the Hungarian dub, Huey, Dewey and Louie are voiced by child actors. In the Mexican Spanish dub, Dewey is voiced by a teenager (Jose Luis Piedra).
%%* CreatorBacklash:
%%** A downplayed case but Creator/TonyAnselmo, isn't too fond of ''WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017'' due to the writers apparently making it harder to understand Donald due to having too much dialogue and having recordings sped up 20% in season 1 though said problem was rectified in seasons 2 and 3 when the dialogue was no longer sped up and shortened down to a more reasonable rate to make it easier to understand and he has made peace with the show enough to list it on his Instagram bio.
* CreatorCameo:
** Dialogue director Creator/SamRiegel voices Tenderfeet/Gavin in "The Other Bin of Scrooge [=McDuck=]!", as well as various minor roles across the series.
** In "The Duck Knight Returns!", one of the background characters attending the Jim Starling signing is a ducksona of series creator Frank Angones.
* CreatorsFavorite:
** Frank Angones has joked that an easy way to get him to approve of a pitch is to include Manny, the Headless Man-Horse.
** Matt Youngberg's favorite antagonist is Zeus.
** Storyboard artist Samantha King's favorite character is Penumbra.
* CreatorsOddball: This is Creator/MattYoungberg's first series he co-created that isn't a [[WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated superhero]] [[WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse action cartoon]] for Creator/CartoonNetwork.
* CreatorsPest:
** Why was Doofus chosen to become Louie's {{foil}} in "Day of the Only Child!"? [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/175407142356/so-doofus-gulps-he-oh-man-he-sure-is-super Because he was the one character on the original show that the crew disliked.]]
-->"I did a deep dive on the internet to make sure that there wasn’t some passionate 'Cult of Doofus' fandom that would be devastated by a change to their favorite character in all of fiction. I literally only found a couple of drawings of him falling down and kissing a hamburger."
** Samantha King, a storyboard artist, evidently dislikes Mark Beaks and Bubba according to [[https://twitter.com/samanthacking/status/1172634342096400384?s=21 comics]] about her storyboard experience on the series (but admitted that Bubba grew on her later on).
* CrossDressingVoices:
** The young Donald was originally voiced by the late Russi Taylor in "Last Christmas" and then by Creator/CristinaValenzuela.
** Creator/JeffBennett provides the vocal effects for all of the Rescue Rangers in "Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!", most notably Gadget, who is female.
** In the European Spanish dub, Huey, Dewey and Louie are voiced by the same woman (Isacha Mengibar), returning from the original series. Averted in most other languages, including English, where they all have male voice actors.
** In the Polish dub, Ma Beagle is voiced by a male (Krzysztof Cybinski).
* TheDanza:
** Jim Starling, the in-universe actor that plays Darkwing Duck, is voiced by Jim Cummings.
** Donald‘s perfectly intelligible voice is provided by [[Creator/DonCheadle Don[ald] Cheadle]].
** John Hodgeman as John D. Rockerduck.
* DawsonCasting: The triplets and Webby are all preteens, but are voiced by actors who are actually in their 30's-40's.
* DisownedAdaptation: Creator/DonRosa is reportedly not fond of the show and has largely tried to distance himself from it, feeling it has no similarity to [[https://twitter.com/fourhman/status/911679205221466114 the comics whatsoever]]. Despite this, when told by a fan that his name was featured in a then-recent episode in 2018, [[https://ducktalks.com/2018/05/30/megacon-tales-part-2-don-rosa/ he smiled at the reference]].
* ExecutiveMeddling:
** Disney XD execs severely messed with the episode order to make Season 1 as front-loaded with episodes focusing on the nephews and Webby as the show's reasonably tight continuity would allow (and also apparently to air episodes prominently featuring monsters and/or [[spoiler:Magica [=DeSpell=]]] before Halloween). This led to Scrooge being absent for two consecutive episodes, and Huey not getting any focus until episode 5 since his actual focus episode had been pushed back several months. Donald gets hit the worst by this; the Disney XD airing order almost makes him the occasional guest character he was on the original show.
** Frank [[https://mobile.twitter.com/FrankAngones/status/1198133239786790913 says]] that there were difficulties in getting "The Golden Lagoon of White Agony Plains!" approved, saying the network was "antsy" about an episode where the nephews had little-to-no involvement, but the episode was largely unaltered.
** Despite showing some major steps forward in allowing LGBT representation on its animated shows the same year with ''WesternAnimation/TheOwlHouse'', and even letting Violet's parents be two men, Disney refused to have Penumbra be explicitly shown to be homosexual in Season 3 beyond a pointedly delivered line that she's not interested in "Earth males."
* ExiledFromContinuity:
** Frank Angones (one of the co-producers), upon being asked about WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse's chances of showing up in the series, [[http://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/155311728751/why-cant-you-have-mickey-in-duck-tales said]] that Mickey is "way above [his] pay grade", and that two stories involving/mentioning the character he wrote were vetoed, leaving it unlikely he's going to show up. This isn't anything unusual for Disney, as they've always been protective of the character. Goofy, however, seems to be fine, due to Spoonerville, Goofy's home town in ''WesternAnimation/GoofTroop'', being mentioned in the very first episode, and Goofy appearing in Season 3. It is worth noting it's not uncommon for Goofy to have appeared in media centered on Donald Duck.
** Also ''WesternAnimation/MightyDucksTheAnimatedSeries'' (which wasn't in the Disney Ducks universe at all)- [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/164315388921/since-you-mentioned-in-st-canard-cape-suzette they wanted to reference them somehow]], but they're "trickier for legal reasons" (possibly stemming from the fact that the now-Anaheim Ducks still use Wildwing Flashblade (leader of the cartoon Ducks) as their mascot). However, one of the Beagle Boys is seen wearing a Mighty Duck mask, whilst attempting to rob a bank, in ''Who is Gizmoduck?!''.
** Francisco Angones [[https://mobile.twitter.com/FrankAngones/status/1249006377436983296 revealed]] that the cast of ''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'' were off-limits, due to other people [[Film/ChipNDaleRescueRangers developing]] [[WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleParkLife projects that wanted to utilize the characters]]. By Season 3, "[[Recap/DuckTales2017S3E3DoubleODuckInYouOnlyCrashTwice Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!]]" featured them, but the full-on origin story wasn't planned; it was initially ''only'' going to be Gadget, who was [[LawyerFriendlyCameo left unnamed]] in the concept period so the crew wouldn't get in trouble, but the crew were given the go-ahead to use all of the Rangers once Disney found out what they were up to.
** Daisy is a complicated case. The writers made it clear that if they are to include her, they will have to tread carefully and make her more than just Donald's [[SatelliteLoveInterest love interest]] or even [[DistaffCounterpart female counterpart]]. She eventually made her first appearance in the season 3 episode "[[Recap/DuckTales2017S3E5LouiesEleven Louie's Eleven!]]" with Angones confirming Daisy will be appearing in more episodes.
* FakeAmerican:
** The Beagle Boys' voice actor, Eric Bauza, was born in Canada, though it's still downplayed since he lives in Los Angeles and a Canadian accent is quite American-sounding.
** British actress Jameela Jamil uses an American accent for Gandra Dee.
* FakeBrit: [[spoiler:Duckworth]] and Mrs. Beakley are respectively voiced by David Kaye and Toks Olagundoye, the former being Canadian-American and the latter being Nigerian (though Toks spent a portion of her life in England and picked up a very convincing English accent there.)
* FakeScot:
** Averted with Scrooge and his father, who are played by the very Scottish Creator/DavidTennant and Creator/GrahamMcTavish respectively.
** Played straight with Flintheart Glomgold whose voice actor Creator/KeithFerguson is American. [[spoiler:Glomgold is also revealed to be a FakeScot in-universe as well, since he's actually a South African putting on a Scottish persona to emulate Scrooge.]]
* FlipFlopOfGod: Frank Angones initially stated that Bradford wasn't responsible for the Spear of Selene incident and that was all of Della's doing, which only his doing was stopping Scrooge from almost depleting his money bin. However, during the series finale, Bradford outright admits to Scrooge that he told Della about the Spear of Selene, stating that he "broke him once before". It comes down to ExactWords - [[spoiler:Bradford didn't actively sabotage the rocket himself, as it was a freak accident that caused Della to be lost, but he certainly did ''hope'' she would be lost in space.]]
* FollowTheLeader: The reboot was announced while ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'' (Disney's other insanely popular show about siblings going on fantastical adventures with their greedy great uncle [[spoiler:and searching for a long lost relative]]) was halfway through its final season and it puts a lot more focus on adventure and mystery than the 1987 show did. A more justified example than most, as a sizable chunk of ''Gravity Falls''' staff is now working for this series.
* HeAlsoDid:
** The co-creator, Creator/FranciscoAngones, is also known his work on ''WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder'' and ''Series/AustinAndAlly''.
** The series features several Disney veteran voice actors in voice roles:
*** Tony Anselmo, Tress [=MacNeille=], Bill Farmer, Corey Burton, Jim Cummings, and Michael Bell reprise their roles as Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Ludwig von Drake/Dale/Zipper (latter two in the series finale), Negaduck, and Quackerjack respectively.
*** Creator/KateMicucci ([[WesternAnimation/MiloMurphysLaw Sara Murphy]], [[WesternAnimation/{{Motorcity}} Julie Kane]]) voices Webby.
*** Creator/BenSchwartz and Creator/JimRash ([[WesternAnimation/RandyCunninghamNinthGradeNinja Randy Cunningham and Principal Slimovitz]]) voice Dewey and Gyro respectively.
*** Creator/KeithFerguson, Creator/JackMcBrayer, Creator/TomKenny, Creator/AprilWinchell, and Creator/NoelWells ([[WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder Lord Hater, Wander, Commander Peepers, Sylvia, and Lord Dominator]]) voice Glomgold/Megavolt, Ghost of Christmas Past, Fethry Duck, Black Heron/Zenith, and June respectively.
*** Creator/KariWahlgren, Creator/DeeBradleyBaker, and Creator/AllisonJanney ([[WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb Suzy, Perry the Platypus, and Charlene Doofenshmirtz]]) voice Roxanne Featherly, Bubba Duck, and Goldie respectively.
*** Paul F. Tompkins, Creator/ClancyBrown, and James Monroe Iglehart ([[WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}} Shorty, King Frederic and Lance Strongbow]]) voice Gladstone, Frankenstein, and Taurus Bulba respectively.
*** Creator/SusanneBlakeslee ([[Franchise/KingdomHearts Maleficent]]) voices Miss Quackfaster.
*** Creator/ChrisDiamantopoulos ([[WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013 Mickey Mouse]]) voice Darkwing Duck and Storkules.
*** Creator/GreyDeLisle, Creator/NiaVardalos, Creator/JaimeCamil, Creator/FredTatasciore, and Creator/AmySedaris ([[WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil Queen Moon/Jackie Lynn Thomas, Angie Diaz, Globgor, Buff Frog, and Mina Loveberry]]) voice Mann, Selene, Don Karnage, Chaddybis, and Pepper respectively.
*** Creator/KimberlyBrooks ([[WesternAnimation/DocMcstuffins Maisha [=McStuffins=]]], [[WesternAnimation/TheOwlHouse Skara]]) voices Peg Leg Meg.
*** Creator/RussiTaylor (WesternAnimation/MinnieMouse) voices Young Donald.
*** Creator/JenniferHale ([[WesternAnimation/CinderellaIIDreamsComeTrue Cinderella]]) voices Gabby [=McStabberson=].
*** Creator/JasonMarsden and Creator/RobPaulsen ([[WesternAnimation/AGoofyMovie Max Goof and PJ]]) voice Hack Smashnikov and Gibbous respectively.
*** Creator/JeffBennett, Creator/CreeSummer and Creator/KeithDavid ([[WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}} Brooklyn, Hyena, and Goliath]]) voice King Honestus, Amunet, and Manny respectively.
*** Abby Ryder Fortson and Creator/DonCheadle ([[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse Cassie Lang and James Rhodes]]) voice Jennifer and Donald's normal voice from the Barksian Modulator respectively.
*** Creator/StephenRoot ([[WesternAnimation/GravityFalls Bud Gleeful]], [[WesternAnimation/FindingNemo Bubbles]]) voices JW Guidebook.
*** Creator/BDWong ([[WesternAnimation/{{Mulan}} Li Shang]]) voices Toad Liu Hai.
*** Sam Riegel and Creator/LauraBailey from ''WebVideo/CriticalRole'' voice various minor characters in the series, and will be familiar to anyone who enjoys shows like ''Manga/FruitsBasket'' and ''WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003''. Riegel also served as dialogue director for the series.
* HeyItsThatSound: The spinning noise from when Dewey dances as the end of Woo-oo! is the same one used in ''VideoGame/CrashBandicootNSaneTrilogy''.
** Additionally, the sound Donald makes while climbing the bag-a-tell machine in "The House of the Lucky Gander!" sounds very similar to the one used for the Warp Star in the ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' series.
** The poofing sound produced when a monstrous Mark Beaks swallows Fenton's electrical paddleball and messes up his hair is the same one used in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker''. In that game, it is used to depict something being spat out, such as postboxes rejecting mail.
** The growling noises used by Fenris, Hecka's wolf partner in ''The Rumble for Ragnarok!'' are the same ones that Bob the bulldog uses in ''WesternAnimation/OggyAndTheCockroaches''.
* {{Improv}}: When writing Glomgolds' schemes, [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/628833259103666176/is-writing-glomgolds-complicated-plans-difficult the writers have a rule]]: "First Idea, Only Idea!" and doesn't go back and rewrites, just build on what was said before.
* IWantYouToMeetAnOldFriendOfMine:
** Certain actors from ''WesternAnimation/BojackHorseman'' have come together again on this show Ben Schwartz (Rutabaga as Dewey), Paget Brewster (Paige Sinclair as Della), Paul F. Thompkins (Mr. Peanutbutter as Gladstone), Margo Martindale (Margo as Ma Beagle), Kimiko Glenn (Stefani as Lena), Stephanie Beatriz (Gina Cazador as Gosalyn), Jaime Camil (Jorge Chavez as Don Karnage), Amy Sedaris (Princess Carolyn as Pepper), and Lin Manuel Miranda (Crackerjack as Gizmoduck).
*** Speaking of Ben Schwartz, he's meeting up with his ''WesternAnimation/RandyCunninghamNinthGradeNinja'' co-star Danny Pudi, where the former played the title character and the latter played Levander Hart.
** Bobby Moynihan (Louie) and Kate Miccuci (Webby) are once again working together again after ''WesternAnimation/NatureCat'', with the former as Hal and the latter as Daisy.
** Danny Pudi (Huey), Jim Rash (Gyro), Paget Brewster (Della), John Hodgman (Rockerduck), Giancarlo Esposito (Phantom Blot), Chris Diamantopoulos (Storkules and Darkwing Duck), and Keith David ([[spoiler:Manny]]) are working on the same series again after starring in ''Series/{{Community}}''.
** Don Cheadle providing Donald's "normal" voice with the modulator reunites him with his ''Series/HouseOfLies'' co-star Ben Schwartz (Dewey).
** Tony Anselmo (Donald) is also reunited with Chris Diamantopoulos (Storkules, Drake Mallard, and the melon) after working together in ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013''.
** "The Lost Harp of Mervana" reunites Ben Schwartz (Dewey) with his ''Series/ParksAndRecreation'' co-star Retta (Harp).
** "Friendship Hates Magic" has Libe Barer (Violet) and Kate Micucci meet up again after ''WesternAnimation/TheSpongeBobMovieSpongeOutOfWater'' and ''Literature/StarDarlings''. [[note]] In the former, Kate voices a popsicle when Plankton goes inside [=SpongeBob=]'s mind while Libe was in the ADR Loop Group. In the latter, Libe voices Sage while Kate voices Cassie, though in the series finale, Libe voices both of them. [[/note]]
** Paget Brewster (Sadie Doyle as Della), Paul F. Tompkins (Jib Janeen and Frank Doyle as Gladstone), and Mark Evan Jackson (Sparks Nevada as the Buzzards) are reunited after working together on ''Podcast/TheThrillingAdventureHour''.
** Getting Creator/MichelleGomez in as Uncle Scrooge's sister is a clever way to make Whovians scream with glee.[[note]]Michelle played Missy, a GenderSwapped reincarnation of The Doctor's nemesis The Master, and David Tennant played the titular Doctor, in Series/DoctorWho[[/note]]
** When they announced that Creator/CatherineTate was set to voice Magica [=DeSpell=], [[AndThereWasMuchRejoicing There Was Much Rejoicing]] by the Whovians.
** "The Last Adventure!" reunites Noel Wells (as June) and Ben Schwartz who were previously in Netflix's ''Happy Anniversary''.
*** It also reunited Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome (as May) who were Garfunkel and Oates.
* LineToGod: Story Editor and Co-Producer Frank Angones frequently answers questions on [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/ his blog]], typically about why certain characters were changed.
* LyingCreator:
** Frank Angones once answered to a question that Lena is one year older than Webby. Considering TheReveal in "The Shadow War!", this is obviously not true, though he possibly could have meant that she was ''depicted'' as one year older.
** Frank Angones also claimed that Flintheart Glomgold is Scottish, which is only MetaphoricallyTrue: [[spoiler:Duke Baloney is South African, and only the Glomgold persona he created for himself to get his revenge on Scrooge is Scottish.]]
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: This is Darkwing Duck's first appearance on television in Hungary, as [[WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck his series]] was never released there ([[https://moly.hu/konyvek/walt-disney-hihetetlen-kuldetes only a picture book]] in 1998).
* MethodActing: Creator/DonCheadle jokes about doing this for his role as Donald Duck, saying that he [[YouAreWhoYouEat ate only duck meat]] and did not wear pants for an entire month.
* MilestoneCelebration: For both the original series' 30th Anniversary and the 70th anniversary of the comics.
* MissingTrailerScene: Played with. Almost all of the scenes from the first trailer are very skillfully edited scenes from the very first episode, with dialogue changed or rearranged to completely obscure the context.
** Some of the animation, such as how Huey, Dewey & Louie act in the car, appears to have some changes between the trailer and pilot.
* NeverTrustATrailer: Combined with SerendipityWritesThePlot, in her appearances in Season 2 Magica was initially mistakenly colored the green she appears at full power rather than a depowered white, and the crew took the opportunity to put some of those shots into the ads to build up the hype for her return.
* NoExportForYou: The pilot episode is available to watch on Disney XD and Disney Channel's official WebSite/YouTube channels, only if you live in the US.
* NonSingingVoice: [[https://d23.com/how-ducktales-composer-made-sure-donald-duck-hit-all-the-right-notes/ Donald's singing]] in "Louie's Eleven", when seen from Daisy's perspective, was done by series composer Dominic Lewis rather than Tony Anselmo.
* TheOriginalDarrin:
** After being replaced by Daniel Ross on ''WesternAnimation/MickeyAndTheRoadsterRacers'', this show has Donald once again voiced by Creator/TonyAnselmo.
** A partial example occurs with the Rescue Rangers where after initially being replaced by Jeff Bennett (though he only provided vocal effects) for their first appearance in "Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!", Corey Burton would return to voice Dale and Zipper for the Rescue Rangers' brief speaking line in "The Last Adventure!"
** In the Polish dub, Webby is voiced again by Magdalena Krylik, her voice actress from second Polish dub of the original ''WesternAnimation/{{DuckTales|1987}}''.
* TheOtherDarrin: Barring Donald and Von Drake, the series replaced the entire cast from the original, though it wound up becoming necessary to recast Scrooge anyway after Creator/AlanYoung died in May 2016; in December of the same year, it was announced that Creator/DavidTennant would play Uncle Scrooge.
** The announcement for the cast came a week after the ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013'' episode "Duck The Halls", the first episode where John Kassir voiced Scrooge after Alan Young's death. In essence, David replaces him as well for this series.
** Some of the actors from the 2013 video game who replaced those from the original series that died didn't reprise their roles here. For example, despite Eric Bauza being in both projects, he does not reprise the role of Gizmoduck, and instead voices the Beagle Boys.
** For the ''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'' TV show featured at the beginning of "Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System!", Megavolt is voiced by Keith Ferguson instead of Dan Castellaneta (though the impression was so good that virtually no one noticed). Jim Cummings and Michael Bell still voice Darkwing Duck and Quackerjack though.
*** Liquidator in that episode was voiced by Creator/CoreyBurton, replacing Jack Angel from the original Darkwing Duck series. Burton was originally supposed to reprise the role in "Let's Get Dangerous", but Creator/KeithFerguson took over the role instead.
*** For his brief appearence in "Friendship Hates Magic", Paddywhack is voiced by Jim Cummings instead of Creator/PhilHartman due to the latter's passing in 1998.
** Jim Cummings does not provide the voice of [[WesternAnimation/TaleSpin Don Karnage]], with Jaime Camil taking over the role. Justified when Agones later revealed that this show's Don Karnage [[https://twitter.com/FrankAngones/status/1368770944240615424 was not the original]], and that the original's fate was planned to be revealed in an untold follow-up story.
** Panchito and Jose, rather than being voiced by Creator/CarlosAlazraqui and Creator/RobPaulsen (who voiced them on ''WesternAnimation/HouseOfMouse'' and ''WesternAnimation/MickeyAndTheRoadsterRacers'') or Jaime Camil and Creator/EricBauza (who voice them on ''WesternAnimation/LegendOfTheThreeCaballeros''), are instead voiced by Bernardo De Paula and Arturo Del Puerto.
** Played with in regards to Darkwing Duck. [[spoiler:Jim Cummings does play Jim Starling, the original Darkwing Duck. However, he does ''not'' voice this universe's incarnation of Drake Mallard, who is voiced instead by Chris Diamantopoulos. Drake Mallard becomes the new Darkwing at the end. However, Starling ends up becoming Negaduck, meaning that Cummings is technically reprising his role as the latter.]]
** The Funzo mascot was voiced by Creator/JasonMarsden during his appearance in early season 1. When he reappeared more in season 2, he was voiced by Creator/EricBauza.
** The Phantom Blot is now voiced by Giancarlo Esposito, replacing Creator/FrankWelker, who voiced him in the original ''[=DuckTales=]'' series, and Creator/JohnOHurley, who voiced him in ''Mickey Mouse Works'' and ''WesternAnimation/HouseOfMouse''.
** For the episode "Louie's Eleven", Sam Riegel voices both Hack and Slash, unlike in the pilot, where Jason Marsden voiced the former.
** Noah Baird replaces Nicolas Cantu as Boyd starting in "Astro BOYD".
** Creator/JamesMonroeIglehart replaces Creator/TimCurry as Taurus Bulba. Likewise, Creator/StephanieBeatriz replaces the late Creator/ChristineCavanaugh as Gosalyn.
** In "Last Christmas", which aired in December 2018, young Donald was voiced by Russi Taylor. Due to her death in July 2019, the role was recast with Creator/CristinaValenzuela starting with "The First Adventure".
** For the Rescue Rangers' appearance in "Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!" their vocal effects are provided by Creator/JeffBennett instead of their original actors. Partially averted in "The Last Adventure!" where Creator/CoreyBurton provides the voice for Dale and Zipper, who were voiced by him in the original series, although he also voices Chip and Monterey Jack instead of Creator/TressMacNeille and Creator/PeterCullen or Creator/{{Jim Cummings|1952}} respectively. Additionally, Creator/AprilWinchell voices Gadget instead of Creator/TressMacNeille despite Tress returning as Daisy in the episode.
** In the Italian dub, the Drake Mallard Darkwing Duck had three different voices in the show's run. Creator/AlessandroTiberi voiced him in his debut episode, in the season 2 finale he was voiced by Oliviero Dinelli (the same voice actor as the original series Darkwing, who already voices the Jim Starling Darkwing in this series) and in season 3 he was replaced again with George Castiglia.
* OutOfOrder: [[https://dragonsareawesome123.tumblr.com/post/165922816509/so-disney-xds-airing-the-ducktales-episodes-out#notes?ref_url=https://s9e.gniithub.io/iframe/tumblr.min.html#_=_ As revealed here]], the episodes are not being aired in the order they were written in. For example the third episode should have been a Huey ep, but it was moved to December. Why? [[https://twitter.com/FrankAngones/status/913424471964377088 Because it has snow in it.]][[note]]Though it later turned out the episode does take place during Christmas, even if the holiday is only briefly referenced.[[/note]]
** WordOfGod confirmed that regardless of production order, the airing order is the exact flow of events.
** Of course, when Disney+ got the producers's intentions wrong for the episodes, [[https://www.denofgeek.com/us/tv/284419/ducktales-watch-order-new-series Frank Agones went ahead and gave information that even season 2 got a little shuffled around]].
* PermanentPlaceholder: "All I Do Is Win" was originally added to a certain scene in "The 87 Cent Solution!" as [[https://twitter.com/LadieFantastic/status/1126640837465501697 a joke among the crew]], but it fit so well they decided to get the rights to use it in the episode proper.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Creator/CatherineTate is best known for her comedic roles, so who excepted her to play Magica [=DeSpell=] as a 100% deadly serious character. It gets averted in the episode "Jaw$", where she acts a lot more hammy and LaughablyEvil, but no less dangerous.
** Creator/JasonMarsden voiced Funzo the mascot [[spoiler:aka the Phantom Blot]] in "Daytrip of Doom!". Interesting because his probably [[WesternAnimation/AGoofyMovie most famous and notable Disney role]] had strong dislike in mascots.
** Jack [=McBrayer=], known for voicing {{Nice Guy}} roles like [[WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder Wander]] and [[WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph Fix-it Felix]], voices the [[CrazyJealousGuy semi-antagonistic]] Ghost of Christmas Past in "Last Christmas!".
** Julie Bowen, often cast as [[WesternAnimation/TangledTheSeries a]] [[Film/HappyGilmore down-to-earth]] [[Series/{{Lost}} love interest]] [[Series/ModernFamily to wackier guys]], plays the xenophobic villain Penumbra. Then it circles back to much more familiar territory as she has a HeelFaceTurn and ShipTease with Launchpad. However, storyboarder Sam King confirmed Penumbra is a lesbian, so it circles right back to PlayingAgainstType.
** Creator/CristinaValenzuela, who's usually known for voicing [[NiceGuy nice]] or [[ActionGirl heroic]] [[TheHero female leads]], voices young Donald during his grunge days in "The First Adventure."
* PredecessorCastingGag:
** In "Last Christmas!", a TimeTravel episode, the child version of Donald Duck is voiced by Creator/RussiTaylor, who voiced Donald's nephews in the original ''WesternAnimation/{{DuckTales|1987}}'' (and in a [[WesternAnimation/MickeysOnceUponAChristmas number]] [[WesternAnimation/MickeysTwiceUponAChristmas of]] [[VideoGame/MickeysSpeedwayUSA other]] [[VideoGame/DuckTales works]]). Sadly, when she passed away in 2019 before Young Donald's planned second appearance in "The First Adventure!", the role was recast.
** Played with. Jim Starling, an actor known InUniverse for playing Darkwing Duck on television, is played by [[Creator/JimCummings1952 Jim Cummings]], the original Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck from the ''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'' cartoon. In "The Duck Knight Returns!", [[spoiler:this universe's Drake Mallard is revealed to be an AscendedFanboy of Starling's Darkwing, TakingUpTheMantle of Darkwing first in a DarkerAndEdgier reboot of the InUniverse series, and then as an actual superhero, more in the vein of the real world series. ]]
* ProductionPosse:
** Many people who worked on ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'' and ''WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder'' have moved onto this series.
** Fred Tatasciore, Kimiko Glenn, Keith Ferguson, Jennifer Hale, Kate Micucci, Russi Taylor, Tress [=MacNeille=], Keone Young, Carlos Alazraqui, Clancy Brown, Grey Griffin, Jim Cummings, Kari Wahlgren, and Robin Atkin Downes worked with voice director Sam Riegel on ''WesternAnimation/SofiaTheFirst''.
** Corey Burton, David Kaye, Tom Kenny, Tara Strong, Kate Micucci, Dee Bradley Baker, and Cree Summer meet up again after ''WesternAnimation/TransformersAnimated'', ''WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse'', and ''WesternAnimation/AvengersAssemble'', with Matt Youngberg in charge of the former two.
* PromotedFanboy:
** Essentially ''everyone''. Frank Angones says that nearly all members of the cast practically ''begged'' him to work on the show. David Tennant even joked that he should be paying them to let him play Scrooge, and Ben Schwartz (who, it must be noted, had [[VideoGame/DuckTales the Moon Theme]] as his ringtone for ''years'') was the one who organized the sing-along video.
** On the other side of the spectrum, [[https://mobile.twitter.com/FrankAngones/status/1127056792700067840 Francisco Angones]] is a big fan of Creator/RobPaulsen and his work, and was glad to have him in the series.
* RealLifeRelative:
** Doofus Drake's parents are voiced by Creator/YuriLowenthal and Creator/TaraPlatt, who are married in real life.
** In the French dub, Jean-Claude Donda is the voice actor for Scrooge, Launchpad, and Ludwig Von Drake, while his daughter, Camille Donda, is the voice actress for Webby. Also, Creator/VincentRopion is the voice of Gyro, while his wife, Delphine Braillon, is the voice of Della.
** In the Polish dub, Scrooge is voiced by Marek Robaczewski. His father, Eugeniusz Robaczewski was the first Polish voice actor of Scrooge, including first Polish dub of the original ''WesternAnimation/{{DuckTales|1987}}''.
** In the Norwegian dub, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are voiced by the Maurstad brothers (Scott, Aslak and Stinius, respectively). Their mother Mari Maurstad (also the official Norwegian voice of Daisy) did the voices of all three in the orginal ''WesternAnimation/{{DuckTales|1987}}'' and their other appearance before with ''WesternAnimation/QuackPack'' [[TheOtherDarrin being maybe the only exception before this]].
** In the Brazilian dub, Fenton/Gizmoduck is voiced by Raphael Rossatto, and his father, Ricardo Rossatto, is the voice of Zeus.
* RealPlaceBackground: The Von Drake Doomsday Vault in "Raiders of the Doomsday Vault!" is based on the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Longyearbyen, Norway.
* RecastAsARegular: In the Brazilian dub, Hélio Ribeiro, who voiced Launchpad's father Ripcord [=McQuack=] and other one-shot characters and extras in the original series, now voices the main character, Scrooge [=McDuck=].
* RecursiveAdaptation: Just like with the original show, it has been announced that this series is getting its own ComicBookAdaptation, which originally came from the comics to begin with.
* RefittedForSequel:
** An episode involving Donald meeting Jose and Panchito again was considered for season 1, but was scrapped. Season 2's fourth episode, "The Town Where Everyone was Nice!", includes them proper.
** Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera was supposed to show up intermittently in Season 1 before his name would be [[CanonCharacterAllAlong revealed]] in "Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System!", but this subplot had to be cut to keep focus on establishing the cast, and because it ate up too much time. The crew [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/188113416226/im-bored-can-you-tell-us-something-interesting repurposed]] the twist for Season 2 in "The Duck Knight Returns!", [[spoiler:where the actor playing Darkwing Duck is revealed to be Drake Mallard]].
** The Rescue Rangers were planned to be referenced fairly early on, but were [[ExiledFromContinuity barred from appearing]] due to other projects starring the characters being developed. By Season 3, the Rescue Rangers were approved to show up in "Double-O-Duck in You Only Crash Twice!", albeit primarily [[LawyerFriendlyCameo unvoiced and unnamed]] aside from a MythologyGag.
** The Season 1 episode "The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!" was planned to feature an {{homage}} to ''Film/DieHard'', with a fight between Donald Duck and Falcon Graves (which is why Graves resembles [[Creator/AlanRickman Hans Gruber]]). While this scene was ultimately cut, a similar fight happens in the Season 3 episode "Louie's Eleven!", complete with Donald yelling "Yippie-ka-yay, Mister Falcon".
* RemakeCameo: In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, the original voices of the nephews (Carmem Sheila (Huey), Marisa Leal (Dewey) and Miriam Ficher (Louie)) return as Downy [=McDuck=], Selene, and Amunet, respectively. Coincidentally, Selene only interacts with Dewey in her first appearance.
** Also Hércules Franco, who voiced Fenton/Gizmoduck, returns as Black Arts Beagle.
** In the Mexican Spanish dub, Angela Villanueva, the original voice of Mrs. Beakley, plays the unnamed nanny in the pilot episode.
** Jim Cummings, who voices Jim Starling [[spoiler:aka Negaduck]], voiced El Capitan in the original series pilot.
** Russi Taylor (the original voice for Webby and the triplets) came back to voice Young Donald in "Last Christmas!"
** Rob Paulsen, who voiced Gladstone Gander in the original cartoon, voices one of the Moonlanders in Season 2. He makes a reappearance in the third season.
** Tress [=MacNeille=], who respectively voiced Circe and both Queen Griselda and Swanwhite in the original series episodes "Home Sweet Homer" and "Maid of the Myth," reprises her role as Daisy Duck.
* RoleReprise:
** The only actors from the original series to reprise their roles are Creator/TonyAnselmo as Donald and Creator/CoreyBurton as Ludwig Von Drake (and they both play a much bigger role than they did in the original). This may or may not have to do with the fact that a lot of the original talent is sadly no longer available...
** The beginning of "Beware The B.U.D.D.Y. System", which establishes ''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'' as an in-universe TV show, has Creator/{{Jim Cummings|1952}} and Creator/MichaelBell reprise the roles of Darkwing Duck and Quackerjack. This is averted with Megavolt, who's voiced by Creator/KeithFerguson instead of Creator/DanCastellaneta. [[spoiler:At the end of "The Duck Knight Returns", Jim Starling, the original actor to play Darkwing Duck in this series, becomes Negaduck, who Jim Cummings also voiced in the original series, while this show's version of Drake Mallard (voiced by Chris Diamantopolous) becomes the new Darkwing Duck like Drake Mallard in the original series.]]
** Played with in "Moonvasion!" [[spoiler:Donald's been stuck on a desert island after crashing his ship in "Whatever Happened to Donald Duck?!", and has been kept company by a melon with WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse ears that he carved a face into a la [[Film/CastAway Wilson]]. Donald's voice for the melon is provided by Chris Diamantopoulos, who voices Mickey in the ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013'' shorts.]]
** Creator/BillFarmer and Creator/TressMacNeille reprise their long-standing roles as Goofy and Daisy.
** In Castilian Spanish, most of the cast from the original series returned: Creator/IsachaMengibar as the triplets, Ivan Muelas as Launchpad, Sandra Jara as Webby, Celia Ballester as Mrs. Beakley, and even the same translator (Kenneth Post) and studio (Abaira changed its name to Soundub, and later SDI). Scrooge is instead voiced by Jose Escobosa, as Carlos Revilla had died in 2000.
** In the French dub, Creator/AlexisTomassian (Dewey) and Creator/DonaldReignoux (Louie) reprise their roles from ''WesternAnimation/QuackPack''. Also returning is Jean-Claude Donda as Launchpad [=McQuack=].
** In the Mexican Spanish dub, Creator/ArturoMercado reprises his roles as Scrooge, Ludwig Von Drake and WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck from the very original series. Also returning are Francisco Colmenero as Glomgold and Moises Palacios as Gyro.
** The Hungarian dub keeps Péter Pálfai as Scrooge and Titanilla Bogdányi as Webby, both from season 4.
** The Swedish dub has the voice actors of Donald, Mrs. Beakley, Glomgold [[note]]his second voice actor to be precise - the character was frequently replaced in the Swedish dub[[/note]] and Duckworth all reprise their roles from the [[WesternAnimation/DuckTales1987 original show]]. Creator/AndersOjebo also reprises his role as WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck.
** The Norwegian dub has the voice actors for Scrooge, Beakley, Gyro, Ma Beagle, Big Time, Bouncer, Magica, Daisy, and Darkwing Duck reprise their roles. Launchpad is a special case; in the "Meet Launchpad" web short, he was voiced by his original voice actor Harald Mæle (who also voices Scrooge in both incarnations), but in the series proper he's voiced by Anders Bye.
* SameVoiceTheirEntireLife: Even Della and Glomgold's child selves are still voiced by Paget Brewster and Keith Ferguson respectively.
* ScienceMarchesOn: Bubba and Tootsie for their appearances in "Timephoon!" have both been recharacterized and redesigned to better correspond with modern theories about Neanderthals and dinosaurs. [[spoiler:The former being reimagined as an ancestor of the [=McDucks=] brings to mind new genetic studies that most non-African modern humans are partially of Neanderthal ancestry, due to Neanderthals and ''Homo sapiens'' having mated in the past.]] Also, the ''Tyrannosaurus'' skeletons seen in "Louie's Eleven!" are in the bird-like horizontal posture as per modern understanding (and immortalized by ''Franchise/JurassicPark'' released years after the original ''[=DuckTales=]''), rather than the outdated tripodal one seen in the ''Tyrannosaurus'' in the original show.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The show falls into this territory from time to time despite its popularity, as evidenced by the ExecutiveMeddling and SeriesHiatus entries above and below. Additionally, some people felt like it suddenly moving back from Disney Channel to Disney XD made it much less accessible for a bigger audience, with many people not even having any idea about episodes airing (though that was more due to the crew wanting episodes aired in the consistent proper order rather than the show itself being unsuccessful).
** As of 2020, it was not renewed for a fourth season ahead of the third season's premiere unlike the others, which questions the fate of the show despite the fact it has a ''World Showcase Adventure'' yet to open.
** On December 1, 2020, Drew Taylor [[https://twitter.com/DrewTailored/status/1333966411916398592 confirmed on his Twitter]] that the third season will be the end of the show. The final episodes will roll out in early 2021. On the plus side, the entire crew was well aware this could happen and were able to construct the entire season from the start as a conclusion to the story.
* SeriesHiatus:
** In the US, the hiatus lasted roughly 5 months from December 2, 2017 to May 1, 2018, due to the channel hop to Disney Channel. However in Scandinavia, the hiatus ended three and a half months later on March 21.
** To make matters worse, Season 2 went on hiatus after the Christmas episode, which lasted for 3 months and aired one episode, before going back on hiatus until May again. And after two weeks where new episodes were aired Monday through Friday it was put on hiatus ''again'' this time until September!
** A little over a week before the season 2 finale, [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/187657533546/hey-frank-how-long-will-the-hiatus-be-this/amp?__twitter_impression=true Francisco Angones]] revealed that this is all part of Disney Channel's new binge watching strategy, where there have to be at least 8-10 episodes ready to be released all at once instead of just 1-2. Season 3 didn't come out until ''early April 2020''.
** After the seventh episode of Season 3, the show went on a four month hiatus from May to September with the COVID-19 pandemic being the reason for the hiatus being longer than intended.
* ShortRunInPeru:
** "The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!" aired on Disney XD Canada on October 14, 2017, a week ahead of its American release date of October 21, but in line with its original release date before "The House of the Lucky Gander!" was moved ahead.
** Beginning March 21, 2018 new episodes began airing in Scandinavia, while the series remained on hiatus in the U.S. until May 1, 2018.
* ShownTheirWork: in relation to UsefulNotes/{{Scotland}}:
** In "Moonvasion!" Scrooge paraphrases the Scottish proverb "Twelve Highlanders and a bagpipe make a rebellion."
** In "The Fight For Castle [=McDuck=]!" the [=McDucks=]' dinner includes black pudding, a kind of blood sausuage made from the leftovers of a slaughtered pig out of [[ThriftyScot Scottish frugality]], and they use the Scots term "tatties" to describe potatoes.
* ShrugOfGod: When asked what type of bird Gabby [=McStabberson=] was, Frank Angones responded "Is 'Grace Jones' a type of bird?"
* TeasingCreator:
** Frank Angones, whenever directly asked about Darkwing Duck's chances of showing up, would quote his MadLibsCatchphrase, and then say "[[BlatantLies Never heard of him.]]" He was later confirmed to be showing up at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con.
** Frank Angones also revealed that Duckworth appears in the intro sequence, but not any more details. Fan speculation has gone wild. [[spoiler:"[=McMystery=] at [=McDuck=] [=McManor=]!" finally reveals the truth: he is the skull-headed ghost that scares the children.]]
** Darkwing Duck is introduced as a character in an [[ShowWithinAShow in-universe tv show]], played by an in-universe actor named Jim Starling. In real life, a fan asked if that meant a Gosalyn also existed. Frank Angones's response was "[[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/175418405076/if-theres-a-darkwing-does-that-mean-theres-a Darkwing without Gosalyn is not Darkwing.]]" Fans thought that meant Gosalyn would be appearing eventually. [[spoiler:As it turned out, there was no Gosalyn in the in-universe TV show, and therefore that Darkwing was never the real Darkwing. In fact, Jim Starling becomes ''Negaduck''. (Gosalyn ''does'' eventually appear, but alongside the ''real'' Darkwing Duck, Drake Mallard.)]]
** In the weeks leading up to the second season finale, Frank Angones teased that [[TonightSomeoneDies a character would be killed off before the season was over]], and that said character was on the Season 3 poster from that year's San Diego Comic Con. EpilepticTrees ensued, with Penumbra being seen as the most likely candidate. [[spoiler:The "death" was that of a Mickey Mouse-shaped (and voiced) CompanionCube watermelon, which was unceremoniously eaten by Gladstone and Fethry, as well as two of Gyro's clones, one of whom may or not have been the real Gyro.]]
* TechnicalAdvisor: To accurately portray [[spoiler:Della Duck]] as an amputee in terms of design and movement, Jack Richmond and Tonya Osborne-Simpson of the Amputee Coalition were tapped as consultants.
* ThrowItIn: [[https://mobile.twitter.com/frankangones/status/1202857560757288960 Fethry Duck's]] blue krill song in "The Depths Of Cousin Fethry" was improvised by Creator/TomKenny.
** For "Woo-oo!", Dewey singing his own adventure music in Atlantis was in the script, but it didn't have a melody planned ahead of time. Ben Schwartz just made it up on the spot while recording his dialogue.
* TimeShiftedActor: "Last Christmas" had a young Donald voiced by Russi Taylor instead of Tony Anselmo, even though she was ironically ''older'' than him. Later on, after she passed away, the role did go to a younger actor, Creator/CristinaValenzuela.
* {{Tuckerisation}}: To two of their greatest contributors.
** The thing that made Donald speak in a normal voice was named the "Barksian voice modulator", named after comic book writer Creator/CarlBarks, whose Donald Duck character was always perfectly understandable in his dialogue-cloud.
** The thing that made gravity go sideways and upway in a episode was named "The Rosa Stones", named after Creator/DonRosa who once wrote a story where Magica cursed Scrooge and Donald to fall sideways.
** Zan Owlson is named after Suzanna Olson, who served as the show's producer for 46 episodes.
* WordOfGay:
** In "They Put a Moonlander on the Earth!", Penumbra says she's not interested in dating an "Earth male". Storyboard artist Sam King later confirmed Penny is meant to be a lesbian.
** After the show ended, Sam King herself thought every character, except Lunaris, was [[https://twitter.com/SamanthaCKing/status/1372365544326713349 "LGBTQIA+ in some shape or form"]].
* WordOfGod:
** [[https://suspendersofdisbelief.tumblr.com/post/170367889606/could-we-have-a-webby-x-louie-episode-that-would Frank Angones confirmed in advance]] that there would be no romance between Webby or any of the triplets because he didn't want to verify a ship and shut down another one in the process, as well as the fact that the show is about family, with only a few aspects being about romantic relationships. Of course, this hasn't stopped people from shipping Dewey/Webby. In hindsight, the primary reason for this is likely that [[spoiler:Webby is biologically related to the triplets via cloning.]]
** [[https://twitter.com/FrankAngones/status/1000854494291243009 Duckworth's]] LastWords were "Very good, sir." Takes on a darker context when the GrandFinale all but states that [[spoiler:Bradford had Duckworth murdered, meaning Duckworth’s death was likely extremely sudden and he neither saw it coming nor did he know the culprit given he never brings it up to Scrooge.]]
** Dewey and Louie are members of the Junior Woodchucks too. They're just not as enthusiastic about the organization as Huey is.
** Creator/DonRosa's ''ComicBook/TheLifeAndTimesOfScroogeMcDuck'' is ''required reading'' for new crew members.
* WriteWhoYouKnow: Matilda owning an emu farm is something that Madison Bateman [[https://twitter.com/madisonbateman/status/1331040146179858433 based]] on her high school theater teacher's husband, who was known for crazy, get rich quick schemes.
