* AbilityOverAppearance: Creator/JamesMarsters as Zamasu was initially viewed by some as unfitting, or just sounds older than you'd expect Zamasu to sound, since he sounds nothing like Creator/ShinichiroMiki, Zamasu's Japanese actor, who gave a great performance in the original version and gave what some felt to be a ToughActToFollow performance. Luckily, Marsters was able to impress most of the skeptics, as his performance steadily got much better after starting off good already. People were reportedly in awe of Marsters' screams in the last episodes of the Funimation dub broadcast.
* ActingForTwo:
** In general, Goku and Goku Black share the same voice actor/actress in all the dubs.
** Masako Nozawa voices Goku, Gohan, Goten, and Goku Black in the Japanese version.
** Vegeta and Copy Vegeta share a voice actor ([[AvertedTrope Except]] in the Japanese, Polish and [[CastingGag Funimation English]] dubs).
** Sean Schemmel still voices Goku and King Kai. He would then go on to voice Goku Black after he first did the role in ''Xenoverse 2''.
** Chris Sabat still voices Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, and Shenron as always in the English dub. Which in turn [[CastingGag gave us this gem]].
--->'''Vegeta:''' You're a bad actor, you know that?\
'''Piccolo:''' Says you!
** Takeshi Kusao voices both Kid Trunks and Future Trunks, and they talk to each other in several scenes the Future Trunks Arc.
*** Similar situation with Maksymilian Michasiów in the Polish dub.
** Creator/RyuseiNakao voices Frieza and Frost, with both characters meeting in episode 96, which is before the Tournament of Power starts.
*** Kept in the Polish dub, with Waldemar Barwiński voicing both of them.
** Creator/DaisukeKishio plays more than six characters, as he voices the young and gentle Cabba, the jovial God of Destruction Liquiir, Universe 10 fighter Mechiōpu, Nigrisshii, Bollarator, and the OneSceneWonder of Mosco[[spoiler:'s true identity, Mule]].
* ActorAllusion: In the English dub, Creator/MatthewMercer plays Hit, the mercenary from Universe 7 who has a weaker TimeStandsStill than his ''other'' famous role, [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Jotaro Kujo]], but making up by being far more stronger and versatile. In the Tournament of Power, he faces off against Jiren, played by Creator/PatrickSeitz who ''also'' plays DIO Brando in ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure''. The result? [[spoiler:DIO breaks through Jotaro's time barrier and utterly ''humiliates'' him before eliminating him.]]
* AdoredByTheNetwork: Despite completing its run, the series is still frequently shown on Creator/AdultSwim's Saturday night lineup - usually a full hour kicking off the regular Adult Swim block, ''in addition to'' a regular rerun slot on Toonami. In 2018, the show briefly was given a 8PM weeknight slot, something that hadn't happened to any anime series in ''nearly a decade''.
* AmateurCast: [[AllStarCast As opposed to]] the original Japanese and English dub, in the Polish dub, bunch of voice actors hadn't typical acting training at that time, while most of people working as voice actors in the Polish dubbing industry are somehow required to have it, excluding children. Many of them were former or still active fandubbers. The most notable examples include Karol Gajos (Son Gohan, Hermilla), Marta Czarkowska (Chiaotzu, Dende, Pan, Marcarita), Oliwia Dymowska (Puar, Fish Oracle, Maki), Agnieszka Wiśniewska (Android 18, Marron, both Zen'os, Marron, Bulla), Dariusz Kosmowski (Daishinkan, Rabanra, Borareta, younger Kuririn), Jakub Kisiel (Ea, Agu), Dagmara Niemiec (Arale Norimaki), Patryk Kasper (Pirozhki, Shisami, Auta Magetta, Giin, Hyssop, Roselle) and Paweł Wojtaszek (Monaka, Murisam, Za Pricco, Panchia).
* AnimeFirst: It's in a unique position in regards to production. The series was conceived as being specifically television, though technically the manga version predates the TV version by a few weeks, with the BroadStrokes of the story written by ''Franchise/DragonBall'' creator Creator/AkiraToriyama. The manga version is drawn by "Creator/{{Toyotaro}}", who also did the ''Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission'' and ''Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF'' manga), and it is based on Toriyama's same story outline with a closer level of supervision from Toriyama himself (to the point of occasionally drawing pages for reference and rewriting sections, mostly jokes), plus Toyotaro's own twists, but the anime is considered the main product. That said, [[http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/dragon-ball-super-manga-vol-1-tori-toyo-interview-web-version/ the anime bases its storyboard composition off the manga]], even though the anime versions of some events come out first, and Toriyama says the manga should "keep [the animators] on track", complicating things.
* ApprovalOfGod: Toriyama only provides a broad plot outline and relatively little supervision (more in the manga than the anime, but still), meaning Toei and PromotedFanboy Toyataro have to come up with a lot of stuff on their own. However Toriyama has stated many times that he's happy with both products.
** [[http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/dragon-ball-super-manga-vol-1-tori-toyo-interview-web-version/ He has singled out the manga for praise]], noting that it's probably the closest to his own art style, more than the show.
* AscendedFanon:
** A common fan theory about why Goku never used the Kaioken with his Super Saiyan forms was because it was far too stressful for anyone to handle. This turned out to be true. Old Kai explained that the Kaioken is extremely stressful on the body and Super Saiyan is already a strain. Combining both together is suicide.
** Fans started calling the newest form of Super Saiyan "Super Saiyan Blue" because "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" is too much of a mouthful. The term is now being used in the show and manga adaptation, specifically because characters {{lampshade|Hanging}} that "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" is too much of a mouthful!
** The term "Omni-King" was coined by Jake Schutz (a.k.a. Herms) of ''[[Website/DaizenshuuEX Kanzenshuu]]'', one of the most trusted translators in the fandom, to call Zen'o-sama. The term is a fairly direct translation of 全王 (Zen'ou), but the English dub by Funimation started to use the term.
---> '''Todd Blankenship:''' I see it as a catchy but still fairly direct translation of 全王/Zen'ou, so I don't know how much credit I deserve for "coining" it. It's not like I pulled it out of thin air or something. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy.
** Any fan debates regarding Brian Drummond Vs. Christopher Sabat as Vegeta have been taken to their logical conclusion, with Drummond voicing Copy-Vegeta in the dub.
** The concept of an interdimensional fighting tournament had already been done in the ''WebComic/DragonBallMultiverse'' web comic.
** Not to mention the numerous "Goku goes evil/alternate evil Goku" fanfics out there. Now there's an official one, Goku Black.
* AwesomeDearBoy: James Marsters apparently voiced Zamasu for free, and underwent a pseudonym so the SAG union wouldn't be involved just so he could play the character in the English dub, specifically as an apology and redemption for playing Piccolo in ''Film/DragonballEvolution''. He did a very good job, despite some early growing pains getting used to dubbing anime and voicing the character that he quickly got over.
* BadExportForYou: As of July 2019, the series began broadcasting in the UsefulNotes/UnitedKingdom on POP at 7PM on weekdays. However, Pop aired a pre-watershed version of the Funimation dub with swearing removed. This is the edited version of the dub confirmed by Chris Sabat to have been made for other markets.
* BeamMeUpScotty: [[https://imgur.com/a/mTYpc Goku looking at his hand and internally thinking "So this is the power of Ultra Instinct?"]] In reality, at that particular shot, Goku remains silent, and only speaks after Kefla taunts him.
* {{Blooper}}: Despite the fact that energy based flight techniques were disabled in the Tournament of power, on multiple occasions, characters can be seen flying or floating, most notably Jiren when he just floats while meditating after defeating [[TimeMaster Hit]].
* CashCowFranchise: ''Dragon Ball'' has always been big, especially since its revival in 2008. However, thanks to ''Super'', ''Dragon Ball'' is now Toei's biggest franchise followed by ''Manga/OnePiece'' internationally. In Japan, it's a close number two to ''One Piece'' - which ain't too bad for a series that had previously been taking a ''two-decade break''.
* TheCastShowoff: At the end of the Battle of Gods Saga, Sean Schemmel does a near-perfect impression of Christopher Sabat's Vegeta when referencing [[UnstoppableRage the "My Bulma" scene]]. He did the same thing in the movie version of the scene several years earlier.
* CelebrityVoiceActor:
** In the Polish dub:
*** Oolong was voiced by You Tube personality Martin Stankiewicz and some additional voices were provided by rapper Michał Witak alias Numer Raz.
*** The cast also includes some recognisable television and theater actors, like Sebastian Perdek (Son Goku), Jakub Wieczorek (Mr. Satan), Michał Sitarski (Pilaf), Waldemar Barwiński (Freeza, Frost), Tomasz Borkowski (Ginyu), Krzysztof Szczepaniak (Geppuman, Referee, Cae, Damon), Marcin Przybylski (Barry Khan), Paweł Ciołkosz (Basil, Catopesra), Przemysław Stippa (Quitela), Robert Jarociński (Casserale) and Sławomir Pacek (Vermoud).
** In English: James Marsters as Zamasu.
* CharacterOutlivesActor:
** Creator/JoseLavat, the narrator for the Latin American Spanish dub, passed away on May 16, 2018. As such, he was replaced by Rubén Moya for the final part of the series.
** Master Roshi's Hungarian voice actor Ferenc Végh passed away on April 2, 2019, midway through the dubbing production of the series' second half, with his final episodes being released posthumously.
** Kid Trunks' Italian voice actress Monica Bonetto died on April 20, 2017, midway through episode 45.
* CoversAlwaysLie: A female angel named Makkora was seen in promotional material from Toyotaro, but she was apparently rejected to be part of the story and hasn't featured in ''Super'' at all.
* CreatorBacklash: Creator/AkiraToriyama has complained about the ''Super'' anime adaptation according to the 30th Anniversary Collection Book. What exactly were his complaints are vague, but most fans think it was the animation and production issues from the God of Destruction Beerus through Universe 6 arcs.
* CreatorsApathy: ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'' director Tetsuya Nagamine, during an interview, was quite critical of Toei Animation's direction of ''Super'' before ''Broly'', calling them out for their indiference over the series.
--> [[https://twitter.com/Deem939/status/1104143663280676864 Nagamine frankly said that before Broly, Toei didn’t put any effort to do anything to help the quality of Super, just saying “do your best” to the staff.]]
* CreatorsFavorite:
** Toshio Yoshitaka, one of the anime writers has stated to have fallen in love with both Caulifla and Kale, the Saiyan women of Universe 6.
** In an interview with Salón del Manga, Hiroyuki Sakurada, the producer for Dragon Ball Super, admitted to liking Android 17 a lot and feeling he didn't have many fights to show his potential, resulting in 17 receiving a lot of focus in the arc, having his newfound power hyped by Goku and the participants/spectators in the tournament at every opportunity, getting to eliminate [[spoiler: a bulk of U2 fighters and U4]], playing a big part on the [[spoiler: defeat of Anilaza and Toppo,]] and culminating in [[spoiler:him winning the entire tournament and making the wish that saved all of the Dragon Ball multiverse.]]
** Is heavily implied that the God of Destruction Liquiir is a personal favorite of the creative staff, as he is [[MinorMajorCharacter a rather minor character]] yet he receives a lot of focus from both the anime and manga. [[EnsembleDarkhorse The fans don't mind.]]
* CrossDressingVoices:
** In all languages, Zeno and his future counterpart are voiced by women, matching his young, childish appearance.
** In the English dub, Meli Grant voices the male Quitela.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: During the Universal Survival Arc, there has been a lot of magazines promoting the saga, but a lot of the information presented was either downright wrong, or changed by Toei Animation during the process.
** Originally, one magazine got the powers of Bergamo and Lavenda from Universe 9 wrong.
* DevelopmentGag: Toriyama's original design of Beerus's planet for ''Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF'' had an Eiffel Tower-like structure at the center instead of a giant tree. This design would be used in the ''Dragon Ball Super'' manga for Arak's planet.
* DirectedByCastMember:
** Once again, Creator/EduardoGarza is directing the Latin American Spanish dub.
** Chris Sabat is, once again, directing the Funimation English dub.
** Attila Bartucz, voice of Gregory since the ''Z'' days, is directing the Hungarian dub. He also voices Cae and random extras.
** Dariusz Kosmowski, who directed the Polish dub, also voiced Daishinkan, Rabanra, Borareta, young Kuririn and some additional characters.
* DuelingDubs:
** Keeping in line with ''Dragon Ball''[='s=] prolific history with this trope, two English dubs are being produced for the show. One is done by Creator/{{Funimation}} (who have previously handled almost all the other ''Dragon Ball'' shows and movies in the United States) for its official American release. The other, made specifically for the show's broadcast on Creator/ToonamiAsia, is being done by Creator/BangZoomEntertainment.
** Lampshaded, inverted, subverted and parodied by Copy Vegeta in the Funimation dub, who is voiced by the original Ocean Group dub's Vegeta, Creator/BrianDrummond. Normally, you don't '''''literally''''' have two different dubs' versions of a character get into an actual canon fight!
[[/folder]]

[[folder: F-L]]
* FandomNod: In the manga, Goten calls Super Saiyan God "Super Saiyan Red" when it first appears, before Trunks corrects him. "Super Saiyan Red" was a common nickname used by the fandom to refer to the Super Saiyan God transformation after it first appeared on ''Battle of Gods''.
* FlipFlopOfGod: Many fans were confused and worried over a set of episode 94-98 spoilers revealed on message board site [=2chan=], which seemed to throw the Tournament Survival arc on its head again. (spoilers on notes) [[note]]Frieza betraying Universe 7 for Universe 4; a new tenth member for Universe 7 as a result; a new rule for the Tournament of Power; and Jiren convincing the other universes to destroy Goku and Universe 7.[[/note]] One person asked one of the animators on Twitter, who seemed to both confirm and deny these spoilers, with at least one commentator feeling that this was Toei being a TrollingCreator (in the same vein as the ''Anime/SuitePrettyCure'' SixthRanger trolling). Ultimately, the animator's comment turned out to be correct, being right in some cases and not in others. [[note]]Frieza ''did'' try to betray Universe 7, but it was for Universe 9 instead of Universe 4, and ultimately too much time was taken before he dropped the offer (and hence he remained Universe 7's tenth member); the new stated rule is that if all of a Universe's fighters are dropped out, that Universe (with all inhabitants save the Angel) is immediately erased, though this was evident from the beginning; a team was made, but of only Universe 9's members ''and'' by the Trio de Dangers rather than Jiren, and even then was specifically focused on Goku.[[/note]]
* InMemoriam:
** Due to the untimely death of Creator/HiromiTsuru (Bulma's original seiyuu) from aortic dissection, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJfuaZjuwbg a memorial of her was aired]] after the broadcast of Episode 116 of ''Dragon Ball Super'' in Japan.
** When the series was aired in Italy for the first time, Episode 1 was introduced by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q7U4s_YgHU a small tribute]] for Creator/PaoloTorrisi, Goku's original voice actor who died ages before, while also introducing Creator/ClaudioMoneta as [[TheOtherDarrin Goku's new voice]] by comparing their respective Kamehameha yellings in a "passing the torch" way.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: As with ''Franchise/OnePiece'', ''Manga/{{Kochikame}}'', and ''Manga/ChibiMarukoChan'', ''Dragon Ball Super's'' segments on Fuji TV's ''FNS 27-Hour Japan's History'' special has not been released on home video.

* TheOriginalDarrin:
** In the English dub:
*** After being replaced by Daman Mills for the last few episodes of the Golden Frieza Saga and the initial airings of the Tournament of Power episodes, Chris Ayres rerecorded Frieza's dialogue for the Tournament of Power episodes for the home media release.
*** Creator/ColleenClinkenbeard replaced Meredith [=McCoy=] as Android 18 on ''Anime/DragonBallZKai''. For ''Super'', [=McCoy=] reprised her role.
** In the Italian dub:
*** Pilaf is once again voiced by Creator/MassimilianoLotti, who was replaced by Sergio Romanò in the second half of the original series.
*** During ''Anime/DragonBallGT'', Android 17 was recast from Creator/PatrizioPrata to Creator/GabrieleCalindri. Prata reprised the role for ''Super''.
*** Chaotzu was originally voiced by Creator/FedericaValenti in the first series, only to be replaced by Creator/LaraParmiani in ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' and by Creator/GiovannaPapandrea for the dubs of the movies. Valenti came back on the role in the dub of ''Super''.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** In the Japanese version:
*** Shin'ichiro Ota again takes over the role of Kibito-shin from Creator/YujiMitsuya, as he also did for ''Anime/DragonBallGT''. (Mitsuya had reprised his role for both ''Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods'' and ''Anime/DragonBallZKai'', which makes his absence somewhat surprising.)
*** Creator/JojiYanami originally returned to reprise his roles as Kaio and the narrator, but 11 episodes in, he was replaced with Naoki Tatsuta in both roles, due to medical reasons. [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-09-25/naoki-tatsuta-temporarily-replaces-jouji-yanami-as-kaio-narrator-in-dragon-ball-super-anime/.93369 It was originally announced as a temporary recast]], but ended up becoming permanent, as he hasn't returned to voice acting since then, and eventually passed away by the end of 2021. Ryōichi Tanaka also replaced Yanami as the voice of Dr. Brief.
*** Ken Uo takes over as Master Karin in Episode 48 from Creator/IchiroNagai, who passed away two years earlier of a heart attack and whose final appearances in ''Anime/DragonBallZKai'' aired posthumously.
*** After Creator/HiromiTsuru, the voice of Bulma, died in November 2017, Toei recast the role with Creator/AyaHisakawa of ''Sailor Moon'' fame; while episode 96 of ''Super'' was the last to air in Tsuru's lifetime, Creator/ToshioFurukawa confirmed on Twitter that episode 128 will be the final one to feature recorded performances from her.
** In the English dub:
*** Creator/AlexisTipton takes over as the voice of Kid Trunks from Creator/LauraBailey due to the latter being mostly in union-only projects years after moving to Los Angeles. The result, unlike most of the ''Kai'' recastings, however, is one that pretty much everyone can agree is nearly flawless, as Tipton replicates Bailey's voice for Trunks with a good amount of accuracy. FridgeLogic applies in this situation though, as she makes him sound slightly older, but seeing as the series takes place several years after the defeat of Buu, but before Trunks' voice would change completely, it makes sense.
*** In June of 2017, Chris Ayres had to check himself into the hospital due to suffering from COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and emphysema, which will require major surgery to replace his lungs, thus resulting in him taking a long break from voice acting. Luckily, they have a good soundalike to fill in the role, Daman Mills, who started voicing Frieza in the last several minutes of episode 26 and will most likely be taking over the role from him for Frieza's future appearances from the show and video games. Ayres was able to reprise Frieza for the ''Broly'' movie, whereas Mills handles the main series for the remaining episodes in the Tournament of Power arc.
*** In the English dub of ''VideoGame/DragonBallXenoverse2'', Hit was voiced by Aaron Roberts. As of the dub of the Champa Arc, he's voiced by Creator/MatthewMercer.
*** Beginning with episode 89, Creator/BryanMassey has once again replaced Bradford Jackson as the voice of Oolong, after Jackson returned to the role in 2014.
** In the Italian dub:
*** Goku's original voice actor, Creator/PaoloTorrisi, died in 2005 of complications from biliary obstruction, so the casting director decided to replace him with Creator/ClaudioMoneta (who had previously voiced Zarbon and Cooler). Also, Beerus and most of the movie characters have different voices because of the change of cities (Rome to Milan).
*** Frieza's original voice actor, Gianfranco Gamba, died in 2004, so he was replaced by Creator/FedericoZanandrea.
*** In April 2017, Creator/MonicaBonetto, who voiced Kid Trunks, died after a short illness. She was replaced by Creator/PatriziaMottola starting from midway through episode 47. Also, Gotenks, who up to this point talked in Trunks's voice[[note]]In the Italian dub, rather than having both voice actors in unison, fusions speak with the voice of the character the result looks more like: Gotenks has Trunks's voice and Vegetto and Gogeta have Goku's voice... [[InconsistentDub except in the movies, where they have the two voices in unison like in the original version]][[/note]], is now voiced by Creator/JacopoCalatroni.
*** While Mottola was [[CrossDressingVoices the voice of Gregory in the original series]], here she was replaced by the male Stefano Dallavalle.
*** Creator/AlbertoOlivero, Piccolo's original voice actor, reprised the role for the first 27 episodes, then he retired and was replaced by Creator/LucaGhignone. Ghignone also replaced Maurizio Scattorin as the elder Supreme Kai during the Tournament of Power.
*** Champa was voiced by Matteo Zanotti in his earlier appearances, but when the 6/7 Universe Tournament arc began he was replaced by Matteo Brusamonti.
*** Vados was originally voiced by Creator/DeboraMagnaghi, who also voices Android 18. Since Italian fans don't like [[ActingForTwo when the same voice actor does more than one character in the same show]], in the Universe Survival Arc she was replaced by Creator/JolandaGranato.
** Some character voices in the Latin American Spanish dub have been changed, like it happened during ''Anime/DragonBallZKai: The Final Chapters''.
*** Mister Satan is no longer voiced by Ricardo Brust due to Toei preferring Bardo Miranda, Satan's voice actor in ''Kai'', and Majin Buu isn't voiced by Mario Sauret since he retired in 2013 after voicing him for ''Battle of Gods'', and was replaced by Marcos Patiño, Buu's voice actor in ''Kai: The Final Chapters''.
*** Despite Creator/IrwinDaayan returning to reprise his role as Dende in ''Kai: The Final Chapters'', he didn't reprise his role in ''Super'' for unknown reasons; Javier Olguín, his actor for ''[[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods Battle of Gods]]'', replaced him.
*** Old Kai's original voice actor, Enrique Mederos, died in April 2004 of a hepatitis infection, and was replaced by Ernesto Lezama (Oolong).
*** Master Roshi's original voice actor, Jesús Colín, also died in May 2011, and was replaced by Miguel Ángel Sanromán, his actor for ''[[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods Battle of Gods]]'' and ''[[Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF Resurrection 'F']]''.
*** Android 18 is an interesting example. She was voiced by Cristina Camargo in the original ''Z'', [[RoleReprise who returned]] for ''[[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods Battle of Gods]]'' and ''[[Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF Resurrection 'F']]''. However, in ''Super'', she is voiced by her ''Anime/DragonBallZBioBroly'' and ''Kai: The Final Chapters'' actress, Mónica Villaseñor.
*** Kibito's voice actor, José Luis Castañeda, had already retired from dubbing in 2010, so he was replaced by Creator/HumbertoSolorzano, who had played Kibito in ''Kai: The Final Chapters''.
*** Future Trunks's original voice actor, Sergio Bonilla, reprised his role for the Future Trunks arc, but he was changed for his last appearance in episode 67 by Víctor Ruiz for unknown reasons. Even Creator/EduardoGarza, the dub's director, was puzzled by this, as he was out of the country at the time.
*** Due to Creator/JoseLavat's death in May 2018, the narrator is voiced by Rubén Moya for the second half of ''Super'', cementing him as the ''de facto'' voice actor for the role.
** The European Spanish dub started a new era thanks to ''Super'' thanks to some changes in some of its major characters:
*** ''Super'' was the introduction to Pablo Domínguez as the new voice of Goku. He's the 5th Spaniard actor to lend his voice to the character in his adult form. This movement was on Toei's request, but it was quite controversial among Spanish fans for a number of reasons. Primarily, the fact that Goku's longest running voice actor in Spain, Jose Antonio Gavira, was still willing to take the role[[note]]He voiced the character from the second half of the Frieza saga up until right before the Cell Games, and most importantly, in all of the ''Dragon Ball Z'' movies, including ''Battle of Gods'' and ''Resurrection F''. Because of this, his voice has the biggest nostalgia value out of the 5 voices... even though most agree he was actually the weakest actor, since he's actually NOT a proffesional voice actor, but rather a radio journalist who took voice acting as a side job in the early 90s[[/note]]. And also, Dominguez's voice sounds quite younger than his predecessors. However, after voicing the character in all the 133 episodes and the ''Broly'' movie, Dominguez has cemented himself as Goku's new voice from here on out. He even managed to do something that many people thought impossible: not only did he manage to win most Spaniard fans over, he also managed to ''earn the honest respect of a significant number of Latin American fans''. The main reason for this is that Dominguez, albeit his performance is not free from criticism[[note]]Some accuse him of sounding a bit over-restrained in Goku's more down-to-earth and even purely comedic moments[[/note]], he excels at one thing that almost all of his precessors struggled with: his screams are genuinely amazing. Many think that, if he irons out his flaws in other areas, he will easily become Goku's definitive Spaniard voice.
*** A less fortunate case was Vegeta's voice. Alberto Hidalgo, Vegeta's classic Spaniard voice actor[[note]]He also voiced the Elder Kai, the Sea Turtle and Bubbles[[/note]], reprised the role at first, but in 2017 he decided to retire from voice acting as a whole. Thus, starting with the Goku Black arc, Vegeta is now voiced by Paco Prieto, a much younger actor. However, unlike Dominguez with Goku, he hasn't been able to win fans over. Not helping the fact that, unlike Goku, who had had multiple voice actors throughtout the series, Vegeta was always consistently voiced by the same actor from almost the beginning. Not only that, Hidalgo's voice sounds pretty unique, and perfectly suited for the character, which made him easily THE most iconic voice of the European Spanish dub. So much that Prieto tried to imitate Hidalgo's voice in the first few episodes to an extent, just to drop it almost immediately after realizing it wasn't working.
*** Future Trunks also received a new voice actor: Bernabé Rico. The reason for this being that the character's most classic voice actor, Luis Fernando Rios, is voicing Piccolo now[[note]]Or rather, again. Rios was actually Piccolo's first Spaniard voice, but he was substituted by Antonio Inchausti in the Frieza saga. Hence why he took Future Trunks instead. However, since Inchausti sadly passed away in the early 2000s, Rio reprised Piccolo from that moment on[[/note]], and he prefered to let the role to a younger actor.
** In the Hungarian dub:
*** Péter Bozsó and Gábor Csőre declined to return as Vegeta and Gohan, so Roland Czető and Bence Penke took up the roles, respectively. Other newcomers include Bence Berkes as Krillin (his main actor in ''DB'' and ''DBZ'', Zoltán Breyer died in 2009), Róbert Harcsik as Yamcha (replacing Péter Forgács), Csongor Szalay as Oolong (replacing Gábor Melis), Dániel Hamvas as Bubbles (replacing Péter R. Kárpáti), Lilla Hermann as Mai (replacing Ági Kökényessy), Zsolt Gyurin as Frieza (replacing Lajos Cs. Németh), Attila Bodrogi as Ginyu (replacing Nándor Holl), Adrienn Pekár as Pan (replacing Anikó Haffner), Tibor Pásztor as Android 17 (replacing Rodrigo Crespo), Gábor Seder as Puar (replacing numerous actors) and unannounced voice talents replacing Chiaotzu and Dende. Péter Beregi returns as King Kai (replacing his ''GT'' replacement, Gábor Forgács). Confusingly, Goten's VA, Judit Koltai replaced Péter Szokol as Gotenks, even though Szokol reprised ''his'' main role of Trunks.
*** Some characters retain their ''GT'' voices: Ferenc Végh as Roshi (Tibor Kenderesi passed away in 2011), Lajos Csuha as Mr. Satan (having replaced István Imre), István Fazekas as Buu (Csaba Csík mostly quit voice acting), Erika F. Nagy as Android 18 (Claudia Liptai hated ''DBZ'', and is too busy and expensive), Endre Botár as Old Kai (György Vizy died in 2004), Victor Posta as Kibito Kai (Pál Sztarenki retired from voice acting) and Máté Endrédi as the narrator (having replaced András Bordi).
*** Characters to change voice actors within ''Super'''s dub include Beerus (János Bordás quit midway into the final arc, Attila Szatmári took over), Buu (twice; his original actor returned after a while), King Kai (Péter Albert took over when Péter Beregi quit due to scheduling issues), Gotenks (voiced by both actors instead of one or the other due to fan complaints), Roshi (whose actor passed away before completing the dub, Péter Albert inherited this role too), Gowasu (László Bartók replacing Zoltán Várday), Marron (Kira Kobela replacing Bori Csuha), Magetta (Gábor Sótonyi - Gábor Beratin - Gábor Kossuth), Helles (Ilona Molnár - Réka Laurinyecz), Shen Long (Róbert Bolla - Attila Szatmári), Dende (Miklós Horváth - Zoltán Renácz, his ''GT'' voice) Kibito (Victor Posta - Páter Barbinek, his ''Z'' voice), and Chichi (Zsuzsa Rácz temporarily filling in for Tünde Törtei). Sorbet, Champa and Vados had temporary voices for their first appearance, before the director settled on a more suitable casting. Puar also went through multiple voices and even genders before the dub decided to make the character a male, dubbed by Gábor Seder.
** In the Polish dub:
*** Although two of the Dragon Ball movies (''Anime/DragonBallZFusionReborn'' and ''Anime/DragonBallZWrathOfTheDragon'') were dubbed in early 00s, Polish dub of ''Super'' introduced mostly new cast, with only few old actors (and none of them was reprising their old roles).
*** Leszek Filipowicz voiced Dr. Brief in episode 33, only to be replaced by Wojciech Żołądkowicz for the rest of the series.
* PlayingAgainstType: Rina Kitagawa, whose more well-known role is the heavily pacifistic Yuuko Omori/Cure Honey of ''Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure'', plays the HotBlooded Brianne de Chateau.
** On a similar note, Creator/PatrickSeitz, who normally voices characters who are HotBlooded, voices Jiren, who is a case of TheStoic.
** Creator/JustinBriner, who generally plays WideEyedIdealist, EndearinglyDorky guys voices [[TimeShiftedActor a young]] Prince Vegeta, the TropeCodifier of StockShonenRival characters.
* TheOtherMarty: Chris Ayres became this to Daman Mills for the home media release of the Tournament of Power episodes in the English dub.
* PosthumousCredit:
** Despite Creator/HiromiTsuru passing away on November 15, 2017 at the age of 57 of an aortic dissection, she still managed to complete all of her lines as Bulma.
** Creator/UnshoIshizuka who voiced Mister Satan among others passed away due to esophagus cancer. However, he finished all of his lines months in advance.
* PromotedFanboy:
** Creator/{{Toyotaro}}, the artist behind the manga adaptation of ''Super'' and ''VideoGame/DragonBallHeroes'', used to work on his own doujinshi of ''Webcomic/{{Dragon Ball AF|Toyble}}'', a fan-made sequel to ''Anime/DragonBallGT''. As of the Universal Survival Arc he collaborated with Toriyama to desgin the remaining [[http://i.imgur.com/xtEuVls.jpg Gods of Destruction]] According to an interview, he considers ''Dragon Ball'' his life.
** Creator/IanSinclair, the English voice of Whis, watched ''Dragon Ball'' during ''Z'''s glory days on Toonami. His glee of being part of ''Super'' while it was being broadcast on the same block [[https://twitter.com/iantweeting/status/794586438692118528 is quite clear.]]
** Arturo Castañeda, the Latin American Spanish voice of Whis, was actually the one who convinced his father, Creator/MarioCastaneda, to take up the role of Adult Goku back in 1997 [[SoMyKidsCanWatch because he wanted his Dad to be Goku]], and has tweeted screenshots of Goku from ''Super'' with the hashtag [=#MiPapaEsGoku=] ("My Dad is Goku"), so it's safe to say that he qualifies.
** Like in ''Xenoverse'' and ''[=FighterZ=]'', James Marsters, after having become a ConvertedFanboy, voices Zamasu in the English Dub.
** Vegeta's new Hungarian VA, Roland Czető used to watch ''Z'' and at first couldn't believe who he was cast as, fearing a backlash from fans. Ironically, this is a stark contrast to the previous actor, who never concealed his dislike/disinterest regarding the franchise and fanbase.
** Nathan Sharp ([=NateWantsToBattle=]) has done a couple of fan-made Dragon Ball music covers in the past on his Youtube page. When it came to dubbing the Universe Survival Arc's main theme, "Limit Break x Survivor", Funimation [[https://twitter.com/NateWantsToBtl/status/1033552695431319552 picked him up to do it]].
** After voicing Cooler and Dr. Gero for ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'', [[https://twitter.com/ChrisGuerreroVA/status/1035274236624097280 Chris Guerrero became the English voice of Lavender]] in ''Super''.
** Much like the previous entries, Creator/DawnMBennett grew up loving Dragon Ball during their youth, and even voiced a one-off role (Fairy C) during ''Super's'' early days. That being said, she also ''really'' likes ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk for the same amount of time. Once the Universe Survival Saga dub rolled around, she managed to snag up Kale, a role that combined both her interests into one.
** Many of the people working on the Polish dub suit this trope, especially those raised in 90s and being old/young enough to watch ''Dragon Ball'', ''Z'' and ''GT'' during the biggest hype in Poland.
** Dorina Móricz, the translator for the Hungarian dub, is a promoted fangirl.
* QuietlyCancelled: The Bang Zoom! dub had been taking so long to get their Universe 6 Saga dub out that it's speculated by many, including their voice actress for 18 and Vados, Tamara Ryan, to have been quietly cancelled. This now seems to be the case, as Toonami Asia, one of the primary networks airing and funding the dub, is seemingly ending broadcast, thus leaving the future of the dub in doubt.
* RealLifeRelative:
** In the Latin American Spanish dub, two of Creator/JoseLuisOrozco's children have supporting roles in the Universe Survival Saga. Luis Fernando Orozco voices Ea, while Andrea Orozco voices Caulifla. Oddly enough, it doubles as a CastingGag for Luis Fernando, since he previously voiced Future Trunks in the first 98 episodes of ''Anime/DragonBallZKai''.
** In the Polish dub, the younger version of Yurin in episode 90 was voiced by Joanna Wiśniewska, sister of Agnieszka Wiśniewska, who voiced Android 18, Marron, Bulla and both Zen'os.
** The Hungarian dub features three Czető family members: Roland as Vegeta, his younger brother Ádám as Cabba and their sister Zsanett as Kale.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Voice acting, in this case. Creator/JojiYanami is nearly 85 years old as of his work on ''Super'', and that's not an age at which you can strain your voice anymore, in most cases. As a result, his inflections for King Kai are mainly monotone, no matter what the animation has him reacting to. Eventually, he was replaced by Naoki Tatsuta.
* RecastAsARegular: Some of the fighters from the Tournament of Power voiced Time Patrollers from the [[VideoGame/DragonballXenoverse Xenoverse]] games, such as Creator/NobuyukiHiyama (Barry Kahn and Prum), Creator/MasumiAsano (Cocoa, Helles and Lilibeu), Creator/YukaKomatsu and Creator/ElizabethMaxwell (Caulifla), Creator/RyokoShiraishi (Sanka Ku), Jiro Saito (Gril), Creator/CaitlinGlass (Vados).
* ReferencedBy:
** Jiren, Caulifla, and Hit were the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TqDIziZ6yo topic of an episode]] of ''Artists Draw Characters (That They've Never Seen)'' of the ''The Drawfree Channel''.
** Yusuke Murata, the artist behind ''Webcomic/OnePunchMan'', did some fan work of characters from ''Dragon Ball'' which includes Beerus, Whis, Vados, and Zen-Oh with his bodyguards with a touch of his style.
** Not exactly referenced, but more like copied. An indian cartoon named ''Chota Bhem team'' [[https://twitter.com/UchihaEdgelord/status/979026386701766656 took the designs from Basil and Champa]] for two of their characters.
* RefittedForSequel: Could be unintentional, but the original idea for ''Anime/DragonBallGT'' was to be an interquel to ''Dragon Ball Z'', set between the final battle of the Majin Buu arc and the series' DistantFinale, before that one turned into a full-on SequelSeries instead. At the very least, the basic idea survived into this installment.
* RoleReprise:
** Incidentally, Creator/WendeeLee reprises her role of Bulma in the Bang Zoom dub, having played her before in the Harmony Gold dub of ''Manga/DragonBall'' back in 1989.
** Almost all of the Latin American Spanish voice actors from the original series reprise their roles in the dub of ''Super'', as they had done previously on ''Kai: The Final Chapters'' (after the first 98 episodes of ''Kai'' replaced them). In addition, [[Creator/JoseLuisOrozco José Luis Orozco]] and Arturo Castañeda reprise their respective roles as Beerus and Whis from the ''Battle of Gods'' and ''Resurrection [='F'=]'' movies in that dub.
** With a few exceptions, most of the original cast from the Italian dub came back, with the most amusing one being Massimiliano Lotti being back as Pilaf after being replaced by Sergio Romanò midway throught the original series.
** While not his ''actual'' role, Brian Drummond, the original English-language voice of Vegeta in the Ocean dub, returns to voice Copy Vegeta for [=FUNimation=].
** A number of actors returned for the Hungarian dub. Most notably, Péter Beregi as King Kai, who quit the role at the tail-end of ''DBZ'' in 1999 (though he also quit ''Super'' after a few episodes); István Wohlmuth as Tien, who has retired from voice acting around 2007; and Judit Koltai as Goten, who rarely gets dubbing roles and can still do the voice.

* StuntCasting: The casting of Brian Drummond as Copy Vegeta was a stroke of brilliance on Sabat's part, as it allowed old 90s Ocean fans to hear the original English Vegeta's voice again, as well as hear him side-by-side with the current English voice of the character. English fans also have said that the short filler arc was elevated by Drummond's casting as Copy Vegeta adding some much-needed enjoyment to the episodes. Drummond has also, jokingly, tweeted in response to a fan that if Ocean were to ever dub ''Super'', he'd personally see to it that Sabat would get cast and flown up to Canada so they could reverse the roles for that dub, which Sabat isn't against.
* ThrowItIn: Chris Sabat described Sean Schemmel's lines as Goku faking a punch from Mr. Satan as "[[https://twitter.com/VoiceOfVegeta/status/856363753314627584 one of the most funny outtakes-become-actual-takes I have experienced]]".
* TrollingCreator:
** Creator/AkiraToriyama was this as far back as ''Dragon Ball''. When he got requests not to kill off certain characters or to draw his characters more round, he would kill off that character and purposely drew with more angles. He would even go as far as to kill characters just because they were popular. Several decades later, this hasn't changed. In the Champa Saga, Buu and Monaka were hyped as part of the U7 team. Buu didn't even fight since he failed the test and Monaka [[spoiler:turned out to be a JokeCharacter]]. Frost was also billed as a GoodCounterpart to Frieza before it's revealed [[spoiler:that he's a BitchInSheepsClothing]]. For the Future Trunks Saga, [[spoiler:Vegito returned and Future Trunks got the kill on Fusion Zamasu]]. Then it all got turned around when [[spoiler:Vegito got an one-hour time-limit and Fusion Zamasu returned and killed everyone in Trunks' time before Future Zen'o nuked the rest]]. For the Universal Survival Saga, we got a diverse ten person team with many forgotten characters. This got turned on its head when [[spoiler:Buu fell asleep, [[RunningGag yet again]], and they had ''Frieza'' replace him]].
** The synopsis for the final episode, as shown in various Japanese publications, proclaimed that [[spoiler:Goku was going to be ringed out by Jiren, only to have everyone realize that they missed someone -- Frieza, who would begin his assault on Jiren.]] Episode 130 proved this was not the case at all: [[spoiler:Frieza actually ''saves'' Goku from getting ringed out and Frieza is joined by a surprisingly alive Android 17, with the final episode being a three-on-one match.]]
* TroubledProduction: The anime was rushed into production following the massive success of ''Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’'' and was scheduled to replace the "at the time" still ongoing ''Dragon Ball Z Kai'' after that finished its run on Fuji TV at the very end of June 2015. Problem: this gave the production staff a mere two and a half months to prepare episodes when generally anime requires at least six to have a stable production schedule. Not helped by the fact that much of Toei's animators already had their hands full on their countless other anime, therefore ''Super'' did not have the necessary amount of animators needed to properly deal with its short production cycle and within 5 episodes the production infamously collapsed leading to the few animators on the series having to rush their work in order to meet the incredibly tight deadlines. Toei would desperately attempt to mitigate ''Super'''s production troubles over the remainder of its nearly three-year run, mostly getting it together by the final arc, the Universal Survival Saga.
* UnfinishedDub: The English dub by Creator/BangZoomEntertainment for Creator/ToonamiAsia, which only got partway through the Universe 6 arc before going silent. Its fate was confirmed when Toonami Asia, who was funding the dub, was shutdown around 2018.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: See WhatCouldHaveBeen/DragonBall.
* WordOfGod:
** V-Jump released a "[[http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/v-jump-january-2017-dragon-ball-super-rivals-super-biographies/ Rival Danger Scale]]" to show how Goku's various rivals were a threat to him, with a score out of twelve given. Although these scores themselves are not necessarily a statement on a characters' power level as much as the threat they pose to Goku's life, the flavor text does confirm a few things. Golden Frieza is still a threat to Super Saiyan Blue even at the time of the Future Trunks Saga, when this issue was released, and that Fused Zamasu cannot be approached by any of the other fighters.
** Toriyama got the idea for Goku Black from the "evil copies of the hero" such as [[Series/{{Ultraman}} Fake Man]], [[Series/KamenRiderSkyrider Fake Kamen Rider]], with the name "Black" coming from ''Series/KamenRiderBlack''.
** Trunks training to become a Supreme Kai disciple and Vegeta going Super Saiyan God in the manga were Creator/{{Toyotaro}}'s ideas. Many twists in the saga were also his idea, but they don't go into further specifics.
** From the same interview as above, the original draft of the Future Trunks arc originally lacked Vegito, who was added into the arc by Toyotaro to meet fans expectations, further implications of this being that the potara's new time limit having always been intended for Fused Zamasu. In addition the original draft of the arc had the final battle be between Goku and Fused Zamasu, a detail that made it into the manga, but the anime ends the arc with a bout between Future Trunks and Fused Zamasu.
** An [[http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/dragon-ball-official-site-the-artisans-who-made-the-universe-survival-arc/ interview]] with Producer Satoru Takami and Series Director Ryōta Nakamura shed some light about the Tournament of Power saga development.
*** Toppo, Jiren and Dyspo designs were created by Toriyama. The anime staff wanted to give Jiren a personality similar to the one that ended up being Toppo's, but Toriyama declined, stating that Jiren is a "stoic character with a tragic backstory", which is why they gave that personality to Toppo. Dyspo's personality was decided based on his voice actor, and the rest of the Pride Troopers were later made by Toei.
*** Ribrianne was designed by Toriyama, but her magical girl schtick and her base form were anime ideas. This presumably also applies to Kakunsa and Rozie.
*** Kale and Caulifla weren't in the original draft. Kale was created by the anime staff thanks to Broly's popularity, and after her creation, Toriyama created Caulifla.
*** The order and manner of eliminations was decided by Toriyama, this includes Krillin's and Piccolo's infamous ones. However, Android 18 and Ribrianne's fight for their different ideas of love weren't in the draft.
* WritingByTheSeatOfYourPants: The Universal Survival Saga was this for the parties involved. Toriyama had a vague outline for a tournament rumble involving 80-something fighters, but there were only 4 new character designs from his part alongside the established 15 designs from Universe 7 and 6. However, the anime staff had to improvise the personalities of the new characters (the three designs becoming a superhero team called the Pride Troopers; Dyspo's cocky personality was based on his voice actor, Creator/BinShimada, who had previously voiced Broly; Toppo's LargeHam personality was originally meant for Jiren, but Toriyama refused the idea; and Ribrianne being a magical girl parody was Toei idea, due to having broadcast magical girl anime before), and to help create many of the new characters (creating many of the new characters, including the other 7 Pride Troopers; with Kale being an idea of Toei based on Broly's popularity, with Toriyama approving of this and creating Caulifla as a pair). The anime staff had to create a more complex story than the last arcs, give a personality to the new characters, recruit the members of the Universe 7 team (including Android 17 and Frieza), and also to follow the original outline, with the order of eliminations, and some small touches from their part (like Frieza giving energy to Goku as a CallBack and Ribrianne being eliminated by 18 over ThePowerOfLove). By comparison, Toyotaro's manga version is closer to the outline, but adapting the designs created by Toei Animation for the side characters.
* WriteWhatYouKnow: Toshio Yoshitaka, who wrote the BaseballEpisode (Ep 70), is a Baseball aficionado in real life.
* WordOfSaintPaul: Toshio Yoshitaka, one of the writers for the anime, has some beliefs that aren't confirmed by either Toriyama or Toyotaro.
** Toshio believes Android 17 is equal in power to Gohan during the Universe Survival Arc. Likewise, both of them are stronger than Frost, who is stronger than Piccolo.
** When a fan asked him if Dyspo was related in some way to Beerus and Champa, he suggested they could be from the same race, but wasn't entirely sure. Apparently, Toriyama wasn't either, according to the anime director.
* YouSoundFamiliar:
** Creator/DaisukeKishio plays more than six characters in this series (Cabba, Liquiir, Universe 10 fighter Mechiōpu, Nigrisshii, Bollarator, and Mosco[[spoiler:'s true identity, Mule]]) after previously voicing Jeice in ''Kai'' (replacing the late Kazumi Tanaka).
** The short-lived Bang Zoom dub features a few actors that had previously worked on the short-lived Harmony Gold of ''Dragon Ball'' from 1989. Aside from Wendee Lee reprising Bulma, it also has Creator/MichaelMcConnohie as King Kai and King Vegeta (he was the narrator and Major Bongo in the HG dub) and Creator/SteveKramer as Old Kai (he was Shenron and Pansy's father in the HG dub). This dub also has Creator/LexLang as Goku, who had voiced Gohan in the ''Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout'' video game.
