Context Trivia / DraculaUntold

Go To

* CompletelyDifferentTitle: In Japan, the film became ''Dracula Zero''.
* DeletedRole:
** The Master Vampire was never [[spoiler:revealed as the Roman Emperor Caligula]] as originally intended, nor was Creator/CharlieCox who was cast as [[spoiler:a young Caligula]] even in the final cut.
** Creator/SamanthaBarks was cast as the Baba Yaga, but also doesn't appear due to her scenes being deleted.
* ExecutiveMeddling: Several scenes were shoved in late in production, after Universal decided to hop on the bandwagon of shared universe films with their classic monster properties.
* FollowTheLeader: The film had to be hastily re-shot to include an ending setting the stage for a shared universe with the other Universal monsters similar to the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse. Of course, plans to tie this particular movie into that franchise have since fallen through.
* FranchiseKiller: The movie was originally going to be the start of a shared universe involving the various Universal monsters. The idea was scrapped when the overall reception wasn't to Universal's liking...Although their second attempt, ''The Mummy'', fared worse.
* IronyAsSheIsCast: The openly gay Luke Evans portraying Vlad the Impaler, who thought of homosexual sex as sinful and had all homosexuals in Wallachia [[CruelAndUnusualDeath boiled in oil]].
* MissingTrailerScene: The first trailer featured widely different footage that was absent from the final movie.
** Ingeras telling someone that his father was a great man and a hero, and that sometimes the world needs a monster.
** Dracula drinking the Master Vampire's blood from a cup instead of a broken skull like in the movie.
** Dracula in his "Lord Impaler" armor telling Cazan to "never forget who I am".
** A woman entering Dracula's tent and about to be bitten by him.
* TheOtherMarty: Director Gary Shore [[http://www.fangoria.com/new/exclusive-holidays-director-gary-shore-on-charlie-coxs-excised-dracula-untold-role/ has revealed]] that Creator/CharlieCox was originally cast as the Master Vampire, but all his scenes were reshot with Creator/CharlesDance when the movie underwent retooling to fit a cinematic universe. Cox does [[spoiler:resemble Caligula, who died young, much more]] compared to Dance, so it's understandable why that element was ultimately dropped.
* SavedFromDevelopmentHell: It's been tossed around in one form or another since 2007. Initially called ''Dracula Year Zero'', Creator/SamWorthington was set to star before {{development hell}} set in and the film restarted under a new name with a new lead. Creator/AlexProyas was originally lined up as director.
* StillbornFranchise: It's since been revealed the movie will in fact ''not'' be tying into the planned Universal Film/DarkUniverse, rendering the film this.
