Context Trivia / DetectivePikachu

Go To

* FandomNod:
** Early in the game, Detective Pikachu is pelted with hot dogs by some mischevious Aipom. He remarks that it's a good hot dog, but there's too much ketchup on it-- a nod to the anime's Pikachu, whose love for ketchup became enough of a meme that one anime ending was dedicated to it years later.
** Detective Pikachu's desire to impress human women might be a nod at the franchise's PeripheryDemographic, many of whom were first drawn to Pokémon by how cute the monsters are (and whom are prone to buying tons of merch of Pikachu wearing different cute outfits).
** At one point Detective Pikachu meets up with another regular Pikachu, who is implied to be Ash's Pikachu. Detective Pikachu then tells it before it leaves that it'll "be the very best like no one ever was".
* NoDubForYou: Like with ''VideoGame/PokkenTournament'' with Nia, while the game text is available in eight of the languages that the main games can be played in (all except for Korean), voice acting is only available in English or Japanese. While not unusual for a Japanese video game, this is an odd case for the heavily internationalized ''Pokémon'' franchise, given that for ''Pokémon'' projects with voice acting: a) [=TPCi=] usually dubs them for each local audience, and b) they usually neglect the Japanese original outside of Japan itself.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** If you classify Mewtwo as a version of the same character that appeared in ''Anime/PokemonTheFirstMovie'' and ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'', it's on its third voice actors in English and Japanese (Creator/ChristopherCoreySmith and Creator/ToruFuruya).
** In ''Returns'', Koichi Yamadera and Yuto Uemura take over from Toru Okawa and Yuma Uchida as Detective Pikachu and Tim Goodman in the Japanese version.
* SavedFromDevelopmentHell:
** Initially [[http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/NHK_documentary_reveals_new_games_in_development revealed in October 2013]], there was no news on the video game's development until ''January 2016'' (over two years since the game's original showcasing), when the announcement blind-sided many fans who had dismissed the game as potential {{Vaporware}}. The English release took another two years to come out in March 20''18''.
** [[ProductionLeadTime The kind of Pokémon that appear in the game is also an indication of this]], as from the beginning of the game to the ending of Chapter 3 only has the first six generations of Pokémon with a heavy emphasis on Gen 6 monsters (the newest ones at the time of the game's conception)[[note]]Fletchling, Furfrou, Diggersby, Noibat, Noivern, Floette, Fennekin, Phantump, Trevenant and Klefki.[[/note]]. Chapter 4 onward showcases Pokémon from ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' [[note]]Although not as many, as only Litten, Stufful, Mimikyu, Alolan Rattata and Brionne make an appearance this time[[/note]].
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: When the game was announced there was mention of a blue Pikachu character being important. The game contains no such Pikachu.
* YouLookFamiliar: This isn't the first time Creator/KaijiTang has voiced a detective in the ''Pokémon'' franchise. He previously voiced Looker in ''WebAnimation/PokemonGenerations''.
