* AccidentallyCorrectWriting: The ''Film/XMenOriginsWolverine'' adds a soundtrack to Logan's UnflinchingWalk as Film Brain thinks the scene looks straight out of a cheesy '80s/early '90s action movie. [[http://www.indiewire.com/article/gavin-hood-x-men-origins-wolverine-eye-in-the-sky-20160308 Director]] Creator/GavinHood felt the second unit [[ExecutiveMeddling the studio forced on him]] was doing exactly that, so Mathew was right!
* BuryYourArt:
** Mathew [[https://twitter.com/FB_BMB/status/643007059735281665 has apologized]] for his comments about Creator/KateMicucci's appearance in his ''Film/WhenInRome'' review. When he finally uploaded the review up on Website/YouTube, he completely cut these jokes out.
** Similarly, he regrets the high number of YouAreFat jokes he made during [[Creator/StevenSeagal Seagal Month]], as while he thinks the obvious attempts to hide the actor’s weight are worthy of mockery, the personal attacks on Seagal went too far. The Website/YouTube re-uploads of the Seagal Month videos remove the meanest jabs.
** He's shown disdain towards his overly sarcastic performance during his 2013–2014 videos, going so far as to re-record his voice-overs with a more natural delivery when uploading his old videos to Website/YouTube.
* CreatorBacklash:
** His ''Film/TheFastAndTheFurious2001'' review, for three reasons: the material was dull, he doesn't feel he was that good, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and his hair was embarrassingly long]].
** As he says in his ''Film/Ultraviolet2006'' review, considers his infamous ''Film/{{Equilibrium}}'' review to be poorly-done in retrospect, saying that he still lacked experience at the time. Averted, however, with the actual criticisms he made of the film, which he still stands by 100%, no matter how controversial they may have been.
** He refers to his ''Film/TransformersRevengeOfTheFallen'' review as "rectifying an old mistake," referencing the favourable text review he wrote in 2009.
** In the comments section for his re-upload of the ''Film/{{Cobra}}'' review he admitted feeling that he had been far too lenient on the film's political messaging, and should ''really'' have torn it a new asshole over what could be seen as applauding police brutality and ignoring due process.
** Though he's grateful for the audience it gave him and the fellow content creators he met over the years, nowadays Mathew would thank people to ''not'' ask about his past involvement with Website/ChannelAwesome.
* DistancedFromCurrentEvents: Delayed the release of the ''Film/TwoThousandTwelve'' review in light of the March 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, as well as slightly editing the review and adding a disclaimer in relation to the events.
* DVDCommentary: He was one of the first reviewers to release a ''WebVideo/{{Kickassia}}'' commentary. He also released commentaries for some of his past episodes.
* MagnumOpusDissonance: While this remains Mathew's most well-known review series, he revealed after leaving Channel Awesome that ''WebVideo/{{Projector}}'' was much more the kind of show he wanted to do in the first place, but felt pressured into doing something more akin to the other review shows being done on the site when he joined. Tellingly, only one episode of this series was produced after his departure from Channel Awesome. [[note]]The ''Film/{{Stormbreaker}}'' review was released after his departure, but produced before it.[[/note]]
* RealSongThemeTune: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWX2ORLTuSw Ready to Roll]]" by Jet Black Stare. It was played epically on the piano by WebVideo/ToddInTheShadows for the opening of their joint review of ''Sunday School Musical'', and again in their crossover review of ''[[Film/AlvinAndTheChipmunks Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel]]''.
* ScheduleSlip: Bad Movie Beatdown episodes were produced on a reasonably regular basis until around 2015, when they started becoming far more infrequent, as Mathew focused increasingly on ''WebVideo/{{Projector}}''. After his last Bad Movie Beatdown review -- of ''[[Creator/StevenSeagal Code of Honor]]'', in November 2018 -- the show remained in limbo for the next four years, with Mathew dropping hints that he may return to it someday, but ultimately all but confirming its permanent discontinuation in 2022, citing the troubles dealing with [=YouTube's ContentID=] algorithms, a frivolous lawsuit he'd had to deal with, and the fact that he simply much preferred working on ''Projector''.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers:
** After Blip went down and Film Brain was forced to reupload his videos elsewhere, he changed the opening music "Ready to Roll" to a Mario Paint cover to avoid his videos being copyright-flagged.
** [[https://twitter.com/FB_BMB/status/1533941062653337606?s=20&t=t1RKL7DZPyRFKzDmE0XygQ In 2022]], Mathew noted that due to Website/YouTube's broken copyright system and an indie film studio threatening legal action against him, he made the decision to slow production on ''Bad Movie Beatdown'' in general.
* ThrowItIn: In the ''Wrong Side of Town'' review, he listed off two things as "First" and "B". According to his Twitter, he left it in because it was funny.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Mathew wanted to review the film ''Film/{{Torque}}'', but after finding out that the creators intended for the movie to be stupid and over the top, he decided not to.
** He initially wanted to do a Bad Movie Beatdown episode on ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice''. But following the suicide of Creator/ZackSnyder's daughter, Mathew thought that doing such a negative review would be in bad taste.
** He considered doing a Bad Movie Beatdown on ''Film/WeddingCrashers'' as a controversial episode, but decided against it, assuming it was a beloved film.
