People who argue against the theory generally point to the timelines not gelling together - the couple announced their separation in September 2005, which, if the real-life break-up was actually influencing the writing, was early enough in the production of the third season that the show could have aborted the Brucas storylines immediately entering the second half of the season, instead of holding off until the beginning of the fourth season, with the brief Brucas romance ''precisely'' taking place in ''that said'' second half of the third season.

The script called for Lucas to simply repeat the sentence, but Creator/ChadMichaelMurray instead sang the line, which meant that the production had to pay to license the song.
