Context Trivia / BatmanArkhamKnight

Go To

* ActingForTwo:
** Just like in ''City'', Creator/KevinConroy voices both Batman and his evil double Hush.
** Creator/TroyBaker returns to voice Two-Face, and also portrays the Arkham Knight.
* {{Blooper}}: Due to the way the challenge mode character selector was implemented (quickly in a patch), the predator mode enemy chatter can make some mistakes, such as mentioning the "Bat" even if you are not playing as him, and sometimes even the wrong gender pronouns. This is rare, however.
* CelebrityVoiceActor: Not rampantly so, but more so than previous games. Namely, Creator/AshleyGreene and Creator/JonathanBanks both make their video game debut, both being more known as TV/movie actors.
* DescendedCreator: Everyone in Pauli's diner except the culprit who releases the fear-toxin is based on one of the game's creators. Yes, Rocksteady's staff got their kicks by ''[[DeathByCameo massacring themselves]]'' in the game's opening encounter.
* LyingCreator:
** Played straight with [[spoiler: the Arkham Knight's identity. Rocksteady has said throughout the time leading to the release that the Arkham Knight was a completely original character. In reality, his true identity is Jason "Robin II/Red Hood II" Todd under a never-before-seen identity.]]
** Inverted with [[spoiler: The Joker's KilledOffForReal status]]. Despite WordOfGod confirming it several times, [[CassandraTruth absolutely no one believed them. It turned out to be true.]] [[spoiler: The Joker does appear in the game, but as a malicious SpiritAdvisor, and not in a physical form.]]
* NoDubForYou: Averted for the Japanese dub of this game, as it will be the first game of the Arkham series featuring one.
* TheOriginalDarrin: Not only did Creator/KevinConroy return as Batman, but so did Creator/SteveBlum as Killer Croc after the character was voiced by Creator/KharyPayton in ''Origins'' and [[spoiler:Creator/MarkHamill came back as the Joker.]] Likewise after ''WesternAnimation/BatmanAssaultOnArkham'' saw the characters recast with Creator/JenniferHale, Matthew Grey Gulber, and Creator/HyndenWalch in the respective roles, ''Knight'' sees the return of Creator/TasiaValenza as Poison Ivy, Creator/WallyWingert as the Riddler, and a version with Creator/TaraStrong as Harley.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Creator/JohnNoble replaces Dino Andrade as the Scarecrow.
** Gordon has been recast yet again, this time with Creator/JonathanBanks taking on the role.
** Instead of Creator/KimberlyBrooks or Kelsey Lansdowne, Creator/AshleyGreene voices Barbara Gordon.
** Scott Porter replaces Creator/TroyBaker and Creator/JoshKeaton (who voiced Dick Grayson as Robin in ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamOrigins'') as Nightwing.
** Robin/Tim Drake is being voiced by Creator/MatthewMercer instead of Creator/TroyBaker.
** In the Brazilian dub, along with many new actors because the dub went from Usefulnotes/RioDeJaneiro to Usefulnotes/SaoPaulo, the Riddler was changed - and amusingly, not only is Duda Ribeiro the cousin of the ''Origins'' Riddler, but he's the current animated Batman!
* PlayingAgainstType: Aside from being a CoolOldGuy, Commissioner Gordon is nothing like the [[EvilIsCool type of characters]] Creator/JonathanBanks is known for. [[spoiler: [[AvertedTrope And not only does he]] [[ChronicallyKilledActor survive the entire ordeal]], [[EarnYourHappyEnding the 100% ending reveals he's successfully run for mayor of Gotham.]]]]
* PreOrderBonus:
** All preorders get [[PromotedToPlayable Harley Quinn]] and four challenge maps.
** Ordering from Gamestop gets you a [[AntiHero Red Hood]] story DLC and a [[MilestoneCelebration 75th Anniversary]] Batman poster in limited supply.
* PropRecycling:
** Besides the obvious reused assets from past games, the rocket-propelled grenades that carjackers will fire at the Batmobile during chase sequences are actually [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHiC1i608Ok&t=15m40s Deadshot's shell casings]] from ''Arkham City''. However, because they move so quickly you can only really tell [[FreezeFrameBonus in Photo Mode]].
** The waitress who serves Officer Owens at the beginning of the game is Poison Ivy with normal skin, blonde hair, and a different outfit.
* RefittedForSequel: The game draws influence from ''Batman Unchained'' of all things, the unmade Creator/JoelSchumacher sequel to ''Film/BatmanAndRobin''. The story in question featured Harley Quinn and Scarecrow as the main antagonists, it involved many characters in the Bat-Family, and it [[spoiler:featured Joker prominently in a number of hallucination sequences]].
** During development of ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamOrigins'', Warner Bros. Montreal stated they wanted to include air drones, but couldn't figure out the best way to make it work in gameplay.
* RoleReprise:
** In the Japanese dub of the game, Batman and [[spoiler:The Joker]] are dubbed by [[spoiler:their dub actors in ''Film/TheDarkKnightTrilogy'', Creator/ShinshuFuji and Creator/KeijiFujiwara, respectively. The latter has also previously done Joker in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold''.]]
** The Brazilian dub retains most of the reprises from ''Origins'' while bringing in the Scarecrow and Catwoman of ''Film/TheDarkKnightTrilogy''. There is also a weird variant, as Manolo Rey is Robin in both games... even if they're different people (''Knight'' has Tim Drake instead of Dick Grayson, who has already changed identities to Nightwing).
* SavedFromDevelopmentHell: If Kevin Conroy can be believed, the game was delayed several times before it was officially announced.[[note]]Mentioned in an interview that the game was supposed to come out in January 2014, though it may have been speculation[[/note]] ''Batman: Arkham Knight'' was officially announced on March 4, 2014 and was originally intended to be released on October 14, 2014. Soon after, rumors began surfacing online that it was being delayed to 2015, which was officially confirmed by Rocksteady on June 3, 2014, with it's new release date of June 2, 2015 being confirmed on September 9. Then on March 23, 2015, it was delayed another three weeks to June 23, nearly four years after ''Batman: Arkham City''. The reason being that Rocksteady needed more time to develop the game because they were not entirely familiar with the next-gen toolkit and wanted to push the game to perform to its high ambitions (no loading times and a large map). This was also a reason for the PC PortingDisaster since Rocksteady's attention entirely went towards the console release and hardware.
* TorchTheFranchiseAndRun: One possible interpretation of the ending, given how Rocksteady has said that this will be the last Batman game they will make. Batman [[spoiler:is forced to reveal his secret identity to the world, and in response to this activates the Knightfall Protocol, which involves blowing up Wayne Manor and the Batcave, seemingly killing Bruce and Alfred with it. While it's left ambiguous if Bruce and Alfred are actually killed (though the former is eventually revealed to have survived this game in ''VideoGame/SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague''...for a few more years anyway), and the 100% ending shows a shadowy Batman-like figure continuing to protect Gotham, the fact remains that it would be very difficult to continue making games in this continuity while keeping up at least a semblance of the traditional Batman mythos, clearing the slate for a reboot in the manner of ''Film/TheDarkKnightRises''.]]
* TrollingCreator: After the Community Challenge Pack was released, people quickly found an easter egg that seemingly had a date on it (4-25). The developers never addressed this, and people made all kinds of theories about Remaster announcements, ''Origins 2'' announcements, Season of Infamy 2 announcements, More skin packs releases, etc. The date came and... a moderator posts a "Happy birthday Joker" thread on the forums. (Joker first appeared 76 years ago that day). Some predicted this, some found it disappointing, some were demanding free content that was "promised" by the easter egg and some were telling [[BreadEggsMilkSquick how their dreams and hopes were crushed.]] [[spoiler: However, this EasterEgg might've been a [[SequelHook Prequel Hook]] for ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamVR'', as "425" is an ArcNumber throughout the game, it involves the Joker's blood infection, and part of the easter egg involved Bruce suspecting a murder victim was killed by someone they knew and ''VR'' was [[ItWasAllADream a nightmare about a Jokerified Bruce killing Nightwing]].]]
* TroubledProduction: The above near DevelopmentHell can go under here, but the PC port in particular needs mentioning. Not only was it outsourced to a completely new developer, but also had only 12 people working on it.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** [[https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/5jrxnv/im_sefton_hill_creative_director_at_rocksteady/?ref=search_posts According to Sefton Hill in a Reddit AMA event]], the ending credits were planned to have an interactive combat sequence where the player would beat down the ''[[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments game's developers]]''. Each knockout would have activated slow motion during which the game showed the name and role of the downed developer.
** There's a DummiedOut bio for Zsasz, hinting that he was originally going to be in this game (beyond minor references and a cameo) [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NpvarYe5e8 One data miner even found voice clips that basically prove a mission about Zsasz.]]
** Originally, the ''Season of Infamy'' DLC would include [[ComicBook/JLA1997 Prometheus]] as a villain, but it was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons, possibly because he is consistently portrayed as one of the few characters who could CurbStompBattle Batman with ease.
** Originally, Explosive Gel wasn't going to be a selectable gadget in this game, and would only be usable in "context specific situations".
