* ActingForTwo: As usual, Grey Griffin voices many characters throughout the show, including Mrs. Sartori, Cotton, Camille (in Season 3), Loretta, and a few other minor characters.
* TheCastShowOff: Everyone in the cast does their own singing.
* CelebrityVoiceActor: Creator/SterlingKBrown, Creator/DanStevens, Music/JoanJett, and [[Music/WuTangClan GZA]] are included in the cast.
* ChildrenVoicingChildren: {{Playing With}}. Wolf is implied to be not much older than eleven, but her voice actress, Sydney Mikayla, was sixteen when the show premiered.
* CreatorsFavoriteEpisode: Rad Sechrist has said on Twitter that "Mute-Eat-Mute World" is his favorite episode.
* DawsonCasting: Kipo and Benson are both voiced by actors in their twenties.
* DubNameChange: In German, Charlemagne is usually called ''Karl der Große'' (Charles the Great), so Scarlemagne was likewise changed to ''Scarl der Große.''
* ExecutiveMeddling:
** Kipo [[spoiler:was originally a normal human. Her having mutant powers]] was a request from executives who believed Kipo needed something special. Her odd skin colour is a holdover from the comics, where [[AmazingTechnicolorPopulation many characters had crazy skin tones]], kept in order to foreshadow the eventual twist.
** The show's artsyle is also a result of this. The animators were concerned about their ability to render the art style, and there were plans to switch to a more "anime" appearance to accommodate Creator/StudioMir before the same executive that greenlit the show demanded that the original art direction be kept.
** Benson's reveal of his sexual orientation. Dreamworks executives had no issue with one of the main protagonists being openly LGBT. In fact, their only note concerning it was that he had to ''explicitly'' say "I'm gay."
** The crew went to great lengths to ensure fans this was ''not'' the case for the show's brief run, as they'd always intended it to just be three seasons as it felt like the natural length for the story (and in fact production of the entire series was completed even before the first season was released).
* FakeNationality: Japanese American actress Creator/KarenFukuhara voices Kipo, who is of mixed black and Korean descent.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The short-lived 2015 ''Kipo'' webcomic. The website was taken down in early 2019, before the first teaser trailer for the show was released. Some of the pages are still available to view on [[https://www.deviantart.com/radsechrist the creator's DeviantArt page]], but you'll need to fire up the Wayback Machine if you want the rest.
* TheOtherDarrin: In her debut appearance, Camille is voiced by Joan Jett. When she returns in Season 3 (most likely for budgetary reasons), [[Creator/GreyDelisle Grey Griffin]] voices her. The same goes for Bad Billions being voiced by Guy Lockard in Season 3 instead of his original actor GZA.
* QueerCharacterQueerActor: Asher is non-binary, just like their voice actor River Butcher.
* ShrugOfGod: The nature of the apocalypse that occurred 200 years before the beginning of the show. Sechrist states he and all the writers have their own separate theories concerning it, and that no one in-universe knows any details either. There are also no plans to ever explore it, since whatever they'd decide on would inevitably be [[PlotDetour too divorced from the main plot to matter]], and Wolkoff additionally noted that [[LeaveThePlotThreadsHanging no answer would satisfy all the fans anyway]].[[note]]For what it's worth, Sechrist's theory is that it was an attempt at solving world hunger gone wrong, while Wolkoff thinks it may have been a supernatural act of nature pushing back against humanity's reign and influence.[[/note]]
* TributeToFido: The white Mega Bichon is based on Bill Wolkoff’s dog Oatmeal.
* TwoVoicesOneCharacter: Kipo ‘s mother Song is voiced by Creator/JeeYoungHan, but during her time [[spoiler: as a Mega Monkey, her sounds are provided by Creator/DeeBradleyBaker.]]
* WholePlotReference: A human child emerges from an [[UndergroundCity Apocalypse Bunker]] after their home is attacked and subsequently has adventures in the RuinsOfTheModernAge, which are populated with (among other things) various groups of [[AnthropomorphicTransformation anthropomorphic animal]] {{mutants}}. ''Series/TheWalkingDead'' may have been the main inspiration for ''Kipo'', but are we sure ''ComicBook/{{Kamandi}}'' wasn't an influence here?
* WordOfGay: As shown [[https://spidaerman.tumblr.com/post/621465710235877376/i-dont-think-i-saw-anything-about-asher-on-tumblr here]], Rad Sechrist -- the creator of ''Kipo'' -- confirmed that Asher is non-binary. Troy was also confirmed to be pansexual.
