* ActingForTwo:
** One of the guards Phoenix speaks with is voiced by [=TheGoldCrow=], who also voices Nick.
** Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie are voiced by [=ShiroiUsagine=], with the two talking to each other in ''Part 3 - Twilight''.
** Fluttershy and Rarity are both voiced by Tomoyo Ichijouji.
** [[DefiedTrope Defied]] in ''Part 3 - Twilight'', where the Judge notices Doctor Whooves staring at him the entire time, but too afraid to talk to him as it might [[RealityBreakingParadox cause some sort of paradox]]. The Judge is voiced by Dr. Whooves' original actor from ''AudioPlay/DoctorWhoovesAndAssistant'', Keikoandgilly, but the Doctor never appears or talks in ''Turnabout Storm'' to any of the cast involved in the investigation and is only seen in the background as a cameo.
** Both Mia Fey and Moonlight Sonata are voiced by [=AderuMoro=], which overlaps with SignificantDoubleCasting, as [[YouRemindMeOfX the latter reminds Phoenix of Mia]], and serves to contrast how different the two are. [[spoiler:Near the end of the trial in Part 5, Moonlight Sonata even briefly sees the spirit of Mia Fey next to Phoenix when proving that [[AccidentalMurder the murder was an accident]]]].
** In Part 5, Princess Celestia [[TheOtherDarrin has a different voice actor]], portrayed by [[Creator/KiraBuckland Rina-chan]] while also voicing Maya Fey.
* CrossDressingVoices: Like the show it's based on, Spike is voiced by a woman, who was Rainbow Dash's VA at first.
* LyingCreator: [=NeoArtimus=] either lied or gave misleading information as an effort to keep stuff like the character's roles under wraps for those not involved in the project. For example, while making the voice casting for ''Part 2'', which included Edgeworth and Trixie, she said the former was going to prosecute and the latter was going to be a witness.
* MidDevelopmentGenreShift: This work evolved from a written fanfiction to an attempt at a game[[note]]In order to be able to put music in it[[/note]], then to a radio play[[note]]The game didn't work out[[/note]], and then they settled for a game-walkthrough like video[[note]]So visual elements could be added[[/note]]. However, an official game version of the series is in the works.
* OfficialFanSubmittedContent: The bad ending, decided in the "[[{{Pun}} Wright]] a bad ending contest".
* ScheduleSlip: There were several important gaps in-between releases of the episodes. The most important ones were between both sides of ''Part 3'', who were originally planned to be released at the same time, and between the fourth and final, due to the huge length of the conclusion.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Due to the original voice actress being busy dealing with other matters, Rainbow Dash was played by a different person in ''Part 2''. This new actress stood as the voice for Rainbow Dash for the rest of the series' run, with the original actress changing roles to Spike. Likewise, Princess Celestia's voice actress also changed between her appearance in ''Part 3 - Twilight'' and ''Part 5''.
** Subverted with Apple Bloom's voice actress: there were enough negative comments on the videos because the voices [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks "weren't as good as the original"]] that she wanted to quit at one point. However, many less hateful [=YouTube=] users (including ''[[Creator/MichelleCreber Apple Bloom's VA herself]]'') did their best to support her in the project, and she decided to join once again.
* TrollingCreator: Ending ''Part 4/4'' on a cliffhanger and stated it'll be continued in ''Part 5/4''? Yeah, that's fits the bill alright. Although WordOfGod did confirm that the main reason to end it this way was practical; the conclusion would have been too long otherwise.
-->''"The reason there is a part 5/4 is because it simply got way too long. Heck, part 5 still is probably going to be the longest part even being split like this. I really want to take my time on this part as I've seen lots of stories be ruined by a sloppy ending."''
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Ace Swift was originally going to be named RedHerring. It was later changed to fit the style of ''Friendship is Magic's'' names[[note]]It was adapted from Ace Baron, the name of a character in a previous ''Ace Attorney'' fanfic of the author[[/note]].
** Lenora's role was originally taken by the G1 pony Firefly, who would have been an overseas mailpony. Her role was changed in that of a friendly griffon to have a way to introduce the Griffon Express to the protagonists.
** ''Part 3'' wasn't going to be a two-parter at first, it was going to be only Phoenix investigating with Apple Bloom. After realizing that Twilight would basically do nothing through the whole chapter, the story was reworked to make her take an active role. With this change, the author also found a way to work Rarity, Pinkie, and Applejack into the story.
** ''Part 3 - Phoenix'' was going to have a song, but it was cut due to time constraints.
** ''Part 3 - Phoenix'' and ''Part 3 - Twilight'' were scheduled to be released one just after the other, as both of them had plot holes that the other explained, but due to some problems at getting the resources for the latter, there was a significant gap between them. Also, the original plan was to release ''Part 3 - Twilight'' first.
** There was originally a scene where [[spoiler:the reason behind Trixie's black psyche-locks would have been stated outright]], but it was cut due to the already huge length of the final episode, and because the author considered it would add awkward exposition to something that was already implied strongly enough.
** The creator was considering making a sequel called ''Crisis Of Turnabout'' after finishing with ''Turnabout Storm''. Apparently, [[EnsembleDarkhorse Princess Luna]] was going to be a big part of it, but [[LargeHam her new and fleshed]]-[[NoIndoorVoice out characterization]] in the episode "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E4LunaEclipsed Luna Eclipsed]]" made the author scrap the idea. After the release of the conclusion, she confirmed other motives behind the decision to not make a sequel [[http://neoartimus.deviantart.com/journal/Why-you-no-sequel-411156623 in her deviantArt journal.]]
*** For those unwilling to go and read it, here's the gist of what Jen said: (1) She doesn't believe she can make another story that would live up to fans' expectations, or her own. (2) She had to constantly fight burnout during ''Turnabout Storm'' and [[{{Determinator}} only finished it through sheer determination to not be one of "those" creators that abandons a project halfway through]]; she doubts she'd be able to push herself so hard again. (3) She hated the outcome of [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E13MagicalMysteryCure "Magical Mystery Cure"]] to the point that it sapped most of her enjoyment of the MLP series; she does not want to ''ever'' write about or for "Princess" Twilight.
