Go To

* The strip often makes reference to other newspaper comics, including LampshadeHanging [=FoxTrot=]'s [[NotAllowedToGrowUp perpetually-stuck-at-the-same-age]] style versus ''ComicStrip/ForBetterOrForWorse'' and its realtime progression.
* A few comics have featured background portraits with characters from other cartoons, such as ''Calvin And Hobbes'', ''Dilbert'', etc.
* Various ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'' characters, including Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and Snoopy, have actually made cameo appearances in the strip.
* One particular one has Jason and Marcus creating an identical snow sculpture of a snowman with a hole in his chest and a cannon right next to it to one in a ''ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes'' strip -- then creating {{sculptures}} of Calvin and Hobbes goofing around with the cannonball. "See, this way it's an homage, not a ripoff."
* Jason and Marcus often go to a store called [[ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes Calvin's Hobbies]].
* There are also several references to movies and TV shows, most often ''Film/TheMatrix'' and ''Franchise/StarWars''.
* When Peter shaves his head after losing a bet, Andy asks him how he could be so stupid. Peter responds (apparently unaware of the reference) ''"[[Film/TheKingAndI It's a puzzlement.]]"''
* In one strip, Jason started paraphrasing Frasier Crane on ''Series/{{Frasier}}'' (namely something about Le Fou Cheval restaurant switching to an all-domestic cheese list all while he is hosting a soiree at the restaurant to impress the membership chair of the chamber music board). Andy points out that no one is likely to pay Jason what Creator/KelseyGrammer gets paid for acting like Frasier.
* One strip has Jason and Marcus acting out the famous 'quarter pounder' exchange from ''Film/PulpFiction''.
-->'''Jason/Marcus''': ''(wearing knight helmets and aiming water pistols)'' Mind if we get medieval on your grass?
* This exchange was later referenced in another strip in an arc involving Jason attempting to take over Michael Eisner's position as CEO. Andy claims that Jason isn't even old enough to see some Disney films, with Peter thinking that he'll have them tamed down. Cut to [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 Timon and Pumbaa]], in the roles of Vincent Vega and Jules Winnefeld, respectively, holding guns with Timon stating "You know what they call a Water Buffalo with Cheese in the Pridelands?" and Pumbaa, who even went as far as to wear Winnefeld's afro, replying "They don't call it a Water Buffalo with Cheese?".
* In [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2011/06/05 one strip]], part of it is in a first-person perspective with an Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. The person asks Paige, who is sitting at the computer, if they can get on to play VideoGame/{{Portal 2}}. She promptly tells the person to go away. A portal is shot above and below her as she then falls through. [[IndulgentFantasySegue It then goes into a third-person perspective]] as you see Jason pointing a poorly made portal gun at Paige.
* [[http://www.foxtrot.com/2011/10/10092011/ A brutal, oafish football player is named]] [[TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}} Ogryn]]ski.
* [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2004/10/31 This]] Halloween strip has Marcus dressed as VideoGame/MegaManX, while Eileen was [[Franchise/TheIncredibles Elastigirl]], Phoebe was [[ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes Hobbes]], Eugene was [[Franchise/StarTrek Spock]] and Jason was [[Franchise/StarWars Jabba the Hutt]] (although Jason's costume was part of the joke).
* Shout outs to ''Creator/MontyPython'' have appeared at least twice. In one strip Paige and Peter sport heads as swollen as [[Film/MontyPythonsTheMeaningOfLife Mr. Creosote's]] belly after cramming for math tests, with Jason offering them a "waffer theen" math formula.
* In another, Jason drew a flip-book of his sister being crushed by a [[Series/MontyPythonsFlyingCircus 16 ton weight.]]
* Jason and Marcus once used toy soldiers to re-enact a scene from ''Film/SavingPrivateRyan'' (specifically the rallying scene to rescue him, although the beginning of the strip was a direct reference to when Miller first learns of his orders to retrieve Private Ryan). Jason's version dealt with retrieving Ryan from a grill after he ended up melting before Roger used the grill.
* Another referenced ''ComicStrip/PearlsBeforeSwine'' and its crazy rhyming [[http://www.foxtrot.com/2009/12/12062009/ here.]]
* The [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2012/04/01 April 1st 2012 strip]] brought us ''Series/GameOfThrones'', if sponsored by [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Hasbro]]. There have been two more ''Series/GameOfThrones'' jokes since.
* [[http://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2013/07/14 This one]]; most of the costumes are easy to identify, but Eilene's Hit Girl costume is rather obscure unless you've seen [[Film/KickAss the movie.]]
* One strip features a WholePlotReference parody to {{Creator/Lewis Carroll}}'s poem ''{{Literature/Jabberwocky}}'', with the words changed to be about Andy making guacamole.
* ''Franchise/StarTrek'': Jason is a fan of all things sci-fi, including Trek.
** Roger has also mentioned getting "one of those flip-top jobbies that Captain Kirk uses", implying it'll take until the 23rd century for his phone contract to expire.
** In the summer camp arc, Jason and Marcus's project is a miniature warp drive. We never get to see it in action though, since [[spoiler:they accidentally sabotage their own project when trying to sabotage Eileen and Phoebe's]].
** Jason and Paige once fought over the remote since ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'' and ''Series/MelrosePlace'' were on at the same time.
** Jason once [[NerdsSpeakKlingon memorized the Klingon dictionary]], and [[https://foxtrot.com/2014/03/09/spring-forwarder/ sings Klingon in the shower]].
** Jason puts his gingerbread men in {{red shirt}}s so they'll be eaten.
** He [[https://foxtrot.com/2010/03/14/saint-patricks/ dressed as Picard for St. Patrick's Day]].
* One story arc had Jason going through the events of ''Literature/AChristmasCarol'' [[AcidRefluxNightmare in a dream]] after being forced to watch it and eat his mother's chili (or similar bad-dream-inducing food).
* Another featured Roger going through a ''WesternAnimation/ThePolarExpress'' parody after drinking bad eggnog.
* Roger's PlaneAwfulFlight featured ''Film/{{Alive}}'' as the in-flight movie.
* The entire "[[Film/JurassicPark Jasorassic Park]]" storyline.
* Jason's "Lone Iguana" shtick with Quincy is an obvious reference to ''Franchise/TheLoneRanger''.
* In the strip for [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2000/12/31 December 31, 2000]], Jason dresses in an ape costume and throws a bunch of bones over a snow monolith, hoping [[Film/TwoThousandOneASpaceOdyssey one of them will turn into a spaceship]].
* [[https://foxtrot.com/2020/03/08/witchering/ Jason decides to be]] a [[Franchise/TheWitcher witcher]], despite knowing nothing about it since his mom won't let him read, watch, or play any of the media in the franchise.
* In the [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2022/05/08 May 18, 2022 strip]], Amend directly quotes ''Literature/{{The Hobbit}}'' to compare Jason's pet iguana Quincy sleeping on his piggy bank to Smaug slumbering on top of his treasure horde.
