!!Heroes

[[folder:Link]]

A young boy living in the Kokiri Forest, and one made (in)famous for being the only one without a fairy companion.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Link did not have an easy time living in the Kokiri Forest. As the only child without a fairy, he grew up thinking of himself as defective and faced bullying at the hands of Mido and his cronies.
* BashBrothers: Despite their mutual dislike of each other, Link and Mido typically make a good time when they are forced to fight monsters together.
* BowAndSwordInAccord: Link uses an old bow and arrow in the Forest Temple to kill Phantom Ganon. He later uses it against Volvagia and a swarm of monsters summoned by Kotake and Koume.
* BratsWithSlingshots: In this version of the story, Link himself invents the Fairy Slingshot instead of finding it inside the Great Deku Tree. While he initially only used it to knock down fruit from trees, he also discovers it has some limited effectiveness against monsters as well.
* ButIWouldReallyEnjoyIt: After [[SheIsAllGrownUp Ruto]] awakens as the Sage of Water, she reminisces on her dream to marry Link before remarking that their contrasting duties means that the marriage she arranged will have to be called off.
-->'''Link:''' (''quietly'') Oh, gee...that's such a...a shame. Really.
* ChickMagnet: Link attracts attention from Zelda, Malon, and Ruto. Even Kaepora Gaebora lampshades it.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: The manga plays up Link's connection to Zelda. They first meet when Zelda, while pretending to be a common girl, saves Link from trouble for not paying for food, and in turn Link defends her from a pack of Gerudo thieves. Link makes it his mission to find Zelda after the TimeSkip, and if [[spoiler:what Sheik looks like under the hood is any indication, Link was always in Zelda's thoughts, too]].
* {{Determinator}}: Link does not give up, ever. He endures harsh terrains, monsters, and all manner of psychological torment for the sake of his friends, Zelda, and Hyrule.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: As close as Link becomes to Princess Zelda, she makes it clear that heroes will not be needed for peacetime, and that she wants to send him back to his own time so he can have another chance at childhood. Reluctantly, Link agrees.
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes: Link tries his best to be an AllLovingHero, really. But he absolutely cannot stand Ganondorf, who is responsible for devastating Hyrule, causing Princess Zelda's disappearance, and [[spoiler:turning his old pet dragon into the monstrous Volvagia]]. Even Darunia is uncharacteristically somber over just how good Ganondorf is at getting under Link's skin.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Even with the bad blood between him and Mido, Link moves quickly to save the other boy from Queen Gohma when the monster begins to attack.
* FishOutOfWater: For someone who dreamed of seeing the world outside the Kokiri Forest, Link is initially completely unprepared for it. He doesn't even know at first that he's supposed to pay "money" for food until the Hylians gang up on him and a disguised Zelda has to bail him out.
* HeroicLineage: Rauru tells Link that his late father was a knight who served the royal family in the Hyrulean Civil War.
* MyGreatestFailure: Despite Link's best efforts, he was unable to reunite with Princess Zelda or stop Ganondorf after collecting the three Spiritual Stones. In fact, collecting the Stones and taking the Master Sword allowed Ganondorf to steal a piece of the Triforce. After reawakening as the Hero of Time, Link sets out to defeat Ganondorf and relocate Zelda no matter the cost.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: Even as a child, Link was willing to face down monsters like Queen Gohma and King Dodongo.
* RageBreakingPoint: In the prologue, Link straight up tackles Mido for one insult too many.
* SamuraiPonytail: As an adult, Link is shown to have his hair tied into a knot beneath his hat.
* VitriolicBestBuds: As much as Mido looks down on Link for having been the boy without a fairy and as much as the otherwise understanding Link despises him for his bullying, the two of them can be counted on to join forces whenever the Kokiri are in danger.
* YouKilledMyFather: Ganondorf sent Queen Gohma to take the Kokiri's Emerald from the Great Deku Tree, killing Link's ParentalSubstitute in the process. This is the first in a ''long'' list of atrocities that earn Ganondorf Link's uncharacteristic hatred.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Navi]]
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: This Navi isn't above being snarky at times.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Link forms what he believes is a LikeBrotherAndSister-type relationship with her, although it is revealed at the end that Navi developed a one-side romantic love for him.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Although Link and Navi have a brief falling out in the "Rouru of the Watarara" omake, she rushes back to his aid when the Flare Dancers attack.
* ButNowIMustGo: As in the game, she leaves Link when he returns to the past for good.
* ServileSnarker: Although Navi's role is that of Link's FairyCompanion, she's not afraid of being a DeadpanSnarker, even at Link's expense.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Princess Zelda]]
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Downplayed. Due to being a partial CompositeCharacter with Malon, Zelda meets with Link right as he enters Hyrule Castle Town as opposed to first seeing him in Hyrule Castle.
* DamselInDistress: As in the game, Zelda is ultimately captured by Ganondorf and used to lure Link into a final battle.
* DemotedToExtra: To a degree. [[spoiler:In the game, Zelda was entirely conscious while disguised as Sheik. Here, Sheik is an alternate personality that leaves Zelda's mind dormant]].
* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: Even at a young age, Zelda was able to accurately gauge Link's depth of character and Ganondorf's lack of it, unlike her father.
* LonelyRichKid: Zelda all but states that she lived a very sheltered and isolated life in the castle, musing to Link at the end of their playdate that she always wanted to know what it would be like to go outside and shop by herself.
* NervesOfSteel: Even as a child, she is perfectly prepared to stare down Ganondorf even after the Gerudo king lit her castle ablaze and killed her father.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Zelda's normally compassionate and patient, but is not above "accidentally" hitting Link with a Bombchu for talking smack about the princess while she is disguised as a commoner.
* PromotedToLoveInterest: Zelda's romantic interest in Link, and vice versa, is much clearer.
* SplitPersonalityMerge: To a degree. [[spoiler:After Sheik expires, Zelda gains all of his memories. Including, unfortunately, all the times Sheik misled and deceived Link for the greater good]].
* SweetTooth: On her first day outside Hyrule Castle, Zelda buys and shares a bag of ''manju'' with Link.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sheik]]
----
* AdaptationalBadass: Sheik is much more proactive and capable in this manga, being prepared to fight alongside Link with a kodachi and having the magical ability to disguise himself as other people.
* AdaptationalGenderIdentity: In the game, Sheik is simply Zelda in disguise. Here, he is a [[MultiGenderedSplitPersonalities male alter ego for Zelda with a separate consciousness]].
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Sheik is played like this in his early appearances. He is initially portrayed as a servant of Ganondorf, but he helps Link stop Volvagia from going on a rampage. Sheik then lures Link into Ingo's ambush while disguised as Talon and into getting captured in the Gerudo Fortress, but only to [[GoodAllAlong maintain his own cover]] as TheMole.
* AntiHero: Sheik is willing to cross lines Zelda would never consider drawing near, such as joining Ganondorf's side as TheMole and purposely misleading Link into ambushes, albeit with good intentions.
* DeathByAdaptation: To the extent that he is an alter ego of Zelda. After being hit by a magic blast by Twinrova, he transforms back into Zelda and never resurfaces again.
* ExactWords: Sheik tells Link that he may find Zelda at the Haunted Wasteland. He meets the hero there himself, not bothering to explain who his alter ego is.
* {{Foil}}: To both Link and his own alter ego, Zelda.
** Link is open, warm, friendly, loyal to all his friends, and proudly wears his Kokiri tunic long after leaving the forest. Sheik is withdrawn, cold, reserved, has no compunction in lying or using ExactWords, and wears a full-body costume after abandoning his alter ego's old garments.
** Zelda lived a sheltered life, opposes Ganondorf at every turn, and has a romantic fixation on Link. Sheik is a roaming servant of Ganondorf who plays the Evil King under his nose and has [[WithFriendsLikeThese a strained dynamic with Link]].
* IdenticalStranger: Under his mask and cap, Sheik is revealed to look exactly like Link, which kind of goes to show what Zelda had in mind when allowing Impa to create a new identity to safeguard her.
* HiredToHuntYourself: Sheik's foremost task as Ganondorf's servant is to bring Princess Zelda to him. Of course, since Zelda is Sheik's suppressed alter ego, he couldn't do that if he wanted to.
* KingIncognito: Sheik is an alter ego of Zelda who poses as a Sheikah mercenary.
* MagicKnight: Besides having some skill with a sword, Sheik can cast illusions to create disguises.
* TheMole: Sheik is a servant of Ganondorf who only joined his side to undermine him and ultimately help Link.
* ReverseGrip: Like Impa, Sheikh wields a kodachi upside-down.
* SplitPersonality: Sheik is a magically-created alter ego of Princess Zelda created by Impa.
* WildCard: Sheik works for Ganondorf, but goes behind his back to assist Link, and simultaneously misleads the Hero of Time as well.
[[/folder]]

!!Villains
[[folder:Ganondorf]]
----
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: When he finds out the truth, he grins and seems downright amused that [[spoiler:Princess Zelda had been standing right in front of him in the form of Sheik for seven years straight]].
* AdaptationalWeaponSwap: Although Ganondorf still carries a short sword pre-TimeSkip, his weapon is a longsword afterwards.
* ArchEnemy: Between killing the Great Deku Tree, killing the Hylian King, causing Zelda's exile, brainwashing Volvagia and practically turning Hyrule upside down in search of the Triforce pieces he was unable to claim, Ganondorf more than earns Link's undying determination to take him down.
* BondVillainStupidity: After beating Link down in their first fight, Ganondorf leaves on horseback, not bothering to finish him off. He all but kicks himself when Link appears seven years later as the Hero of Time.
* CombatPragmatist: Ganondorf catches Link off-guard repeatedly thanks to having tactics absent from most swordsmen or monsters. Ganondorf uses every trick at his disposal, such using a reinforced gauntlet to block Link's blows, striking out with his blade's pommel, and channeling electricity through a sword during a BladeLock.
* DeathGlare: When Princess Zelda ponders if the thieves Link fought off had anything to do with him, Ganondorf sends a chilling sidelong glance at the boy.
* DisproportionateRetribution: When Ingo loses Epona to Link, the only thing that stops Ganondorf from having an Iron Knuckle chop his head off is a suggestion from Kotake and Koume to use the hapless rancher as a brainwashed pawn against Link.
* DragonTamer: Played horrifically. Under his influence, Volvagia grows up to be a monstrous dragon that nearly lets the land ablaze.
* EvilCounterpart: To Mido, of all people. Both are selfish, self-centered rivals to Link, and Link's calling out on Ganondorf for using his magic to gain an advantage in their duel parallels his calling out on Mido for using his fairy to catch him off guard. But while Mido had a microscopic heart of gold that allowed him some care for his peers and a potential to improve himself, Ganondorf is power-hungry to the very end.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Ganondorf is a near-PerpetualSmiler who puts on a show of deferentiality towards Princess Zelda when he first appears, but the young princess sees right through it.
* ForTheEvulz: Even beyond his lust for power, Ganondorf never gets tired of finding ways of getting under peoples' skin and hurting them on a physical, emotional, and mental level. This is probably best shown by him intentionally turning Link's old pet dragon into a rampaging monster and forcing the hero to put him down.
* NotWorthKilling: After blasting Link with his magic and taking what he assumes is the Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf leaves without sparing the boy a second glance. Kotake and Koume point out that he could have avoided all his troubles with the future Hero of Time by killing Link when he had the chance.
* ThePowerOfHate: After finally facing defeat at Link's hands, Ganondorf channels his hatred through the Triforce of Power to become the demon Ganon.
* SuperStrength: Even without the Triforce of Power, Ganondorf is strong enough to crack open a stone floor with his fist.
* UnknownRival: At first. Ganondorf barely acknowledges Link outside of the DeathGlare he shoots him inside of Hyrule Castle for not showing fear of him. This changes after he finds out that the "Ocarina of Time" he stole was actually the Fairy Ocarina, and the boy he beat down [[NotWorthKilling and dismissively abandoned]] is none other than the Hero of Time.
* TheUsurper: By his own admission, he explicitly killed the King of Hyrule to take his throne.
* WorthyOpponent: Subverted. He acknowledges that Link has "guts" to take him on in their initial CurbStompBattle and notes that he's improved when they meet again. When he actually loses against Link, he's so enraged that a "boy" bested him that he transforms into Ganon.
* WouldHurtAChild: During his encounter with Link outside Hyrule Castle, he whacks him across the face with the pommel of his sword and sends him flying with a magic blast.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kotake & Koume]]
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In the game, they only appear in the Gerudo Desert quest. The manga changes this by having them appear as early as Link awakening as the Hero of Time, showing up repeatedly to further Ganondorf's plans.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: While Kotake and Koume still have fire and ice magic, they do not combine into [[FusionDance Twinrova]]. They are shown using [[HypnoTrinket magic jewels]] to conduct brainwashing instead of directly using magic as they implied in the game, and demonstrate the ability to summon monsters from sand.
* CoDragons: As Ganondorf's surrogate mothers, court hypnotists, and go-to sorceresses, they carry out his commands unfailingly.
* CruelMercy: They talk Ganondorf of having Ingo's head cut off for costing him Epona...but only so they can brainwash him into holding Malon hostage and trying to kill Link.
* DirtyCoward: Kotake and Koume only ever attack when they believe their targets can't fight back, even turning invisible and literally hiding behind Sheik when Link breaks out of the Gerudo Fortress.
* EnemySummoner: They create a swarm of monsters from the desert sand in a bid to stop Link from getting to the Spirit Temple.
* HonestAdvisor: For all their evil, they are committed counselors to Ganondorf. They openly criticize him for letting Link escape with his life in the past, and later talk him out of executing Ingo when they have an opportunity to use him as a brainwashed pawn against Link.
* HypnoTrinket: Their ability to brainwash people is elaborated as the use of small magic jewels they use to force people to do their bidding, as shown with the gem they put in Ingo's ear and the crest they put on Nabooru's head.
* MoralMyopia: When Sheik [[spoiler:attacks them and reveals that he is in fact TheMole, they are outraged at the actions of the "traitor" even though they endorsed Ganondorf's usurpation of Hyrule's royal family]].
* ProperlyParanoid: They suspect, [[spoiler:correctly]], that Sheik is not really on Ganondorf's side, and so send Nabooru to supervise him later on in a addition to spying on him themselves.
* WiseOldFolkFacade: They pretend to be a pair of harmless old fortune tellers when Link first encounters them in the desert.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dark Link]]
----
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: To a degree. Instead of being a faceless shadow of Link, Dark Link looks just like the Hero of Time, except with a gray PaletteSwap.
* AnArmAndALeg: During their joust, Link cuts off Dark Link's sword hand before running him through with the Master Sword.
* ClippedWingAngel: After Link initially cuts him in half, Dark Link reforms itself with a shadow horse to ride on. But if anything, Dark Link actually becomes easier to beat this time; even though Link has little experience riding Epona into battle, he still manages to outmaneuver and take him down.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Dark Link confidently counters every single move Link makes, but gets caught off guard when Link copies a technique of Imp's that he had never done himself, a backflip that lets him hit Dark Link from behind.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: While Bongo Bongo has a cursory history as a demon sealed in Kakariko Well, Dark Link pops out of said well out of nowhere to attack Link.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Link's first successful strike on Dark Link cleaves the monster in two at the waist, although he manages to regenerate as a kind of centaur. He does not survive his second bisection.
* HealingFactor: As a being made of shadow, Dark Link can regenerate wounds given to him. However, Link eventually overtaxes his HealingFactor with the Master Sword.
* LivingShadow: While initially appearing as a blob of shadow similar to Bongo Bongo's first form, the monster reforms itself as a shadowy clone of Link.
* MirrorMatch: As in the game, Dark Link matches each of Link's blows, forcing the hero to act creatively to land a strike on him.
* NoNameGiven: He's a composite of Dark Link and Bongo Bongo, but is never actually referred to as either of them in the script.
* SuddenlyVoiced: Unlike his game counterpart, Dark Link has a few lines of dialogue.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Volvagia]]
----
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: In the games, Volvagia was an AncientEvil that was the bane of the Goron race before being killed with the Megaton Hammer and subsequently resurrected by Ganondorf. Here, Volvagia was Link's pet dragon before he was brainwashed by Ganondorf.
* AdaptationalFriendship: Volvagia used to be Link's pet dragon, in contrast to their game counterparts having no interaction with each other aside from their battle in the Fire Temple.
* AgeLift: Volvagia was a legendary AncientEvil in the game. Here, Volvagia could only be a decade old at most.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Under Ganondorf's influence, Volvagia becomes a rampaging monster that nearly dooms the Gorons.
* EyeScream: Despite every ounce of his being not wanting to go through with it, Link ultimately fires an arrow into Volvagia's eye so he can get a chance to take his head with the Master Sword.
* KillerRabbit: Volvagia used to be a cute little dragon that was nonetheless able to burn a Stalchild that tried to attack Link to a crisp.
* KillTheOnesYouLove: Tragically, with no means of nonlethally taking down Volvagia or undoing Ganondorf’s conditioning, Link is left with no choice but to cut his head off.
* TisOnlyABulletInTheBrain: Even after being decapitated, Volvagia remains lucid enough to recognize Link in his last few seconds of life.
* TragicMonster: In this manga, Volvagia was a baby dragon that had been freed from his cage in Hyrule Castle Town by Link, only to be found by Ganondorf and turned into a monster.
* TroublesomePet: Link found it very hard to manage Volvagia at first, since the baby dragon was not above biting him or burning him with his fire breath.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Volvagia was a friendly, if somewhat temperamental, baby dragon before Ganondorf found him while Link was sealed away for seven years.
[[/folder]]

!!Sages
[[folder:Rauru]]
----
* DeathByAdaptation: While it was a common fan theory that Rauru was DeadAllAlong, the manga has him explicitly say that he has been reduced to a spirit bound to the Chamber of Sages.
* DecompositeCharacter: Since the manga was released before the release of ''Literature/HyruleHistoria'', [[spoiler:this version of Rauru is not Kaepora Gaebora]].
* DemotedToExtra: Between [[spoiler:not being Kaepora Gaebora]] and Zelda/[[spoiler:Sheik]] having a slightly increased role in the story, Rauru is essentially a member of the Sages rather than the acting leader.
* MrExposition: As in the game, he explains the ramifications of Link becoming the Hero of Time and and details what his quest entails. He also tells Link how he lost his parents and ended up in the Kokiri Forest.
* SpiritAdvisor: Even with his mortal body having long perished, Rauru is able to provide Link with advice and insight.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Saria]]
----
* AccidentalAimingSkills: When she tries out Link's Fairy Slingshot, she ends up hitting Mido square in the face.
* ChildhoodFriends: Saria has always been Link's closest friend and strongest defender in the Kokiri Village.
* DamselInDistress:
** As in the original game, Saria has to be freed from the Forest Temple.
** In the omake, she is captured by the Skull Kid on behalf of the Baga Tree, but the Skull Kid later relents and sets her free.
* MoralityPet: While Mido's a JerkWithAHeartOfGold towards Link ''at best'' and doesn't even seem to get along with other Kokiri too well, he does really like and care about Saria.
* OnlyFriend: While Link didn't have an easy time growing up in the Kokiri Forest, Saria remained at his side and was his only friend before Navi appeared.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In the omake, Saria gets uncharacteristically angry when Mido hides the wooden mask Link made for their play.
* SealedGoodInACan: Saria is sealed inside a painting by Phantom Ganon. When Link defeats Phantom Ganon, Saria is freed and awakens as the Sage of Forest.
* UncertainDoom: When released from the painting in the Forest Temple, she appears in the form of what appears to be a spirit and says she can "no longer live in the same world" as Link.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Darunia]]
----
* AdaptationalWimp: In the game, Darunia was one of the few Gorons able to escape Ganondorf's grasp, and barged into the Fire Temple to try to take down Volvagia himself. Here, Ganondorf instead captures him and plans to feed him to Volvagia to make an example out of him before the Goron race.
* BadassInDistress: He is captured by Ganondorf, who puts him in a cage and leaves at the mercy of Volvagia.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Darunia seems like a rough, brutish fellow at first, but can be jovial in the right atmosphere and is nothing but empathic when he learns what Link had to do to save him.
* MakeAnExampleOfThem: As opposed to planning to sacrifice nine Gorons to Volvagia as he did in the game, Ganondorf captures Darunia with the intention of letting the dragon eat him.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Darunia is generally either in a good mood or a bad mood. A panel showing him in Ganondorf's captivity shows him looking absolutely crushed. Even when released, he acts very somber over the fact that Link had to kill his old pet dragon and warns him against letting hatred consume him.
* WarriorTherapist: When Link is recovering from the battle with Volvagia, Darunia personally visits the hero to offer advice.
-->'''Darunia:''' I understand how you feel. Stay here and cool your head. If your emotions erupt...you'll never defeat Ganondorf.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ruto]]
----
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: When Link saves her from Barinade, she gives him the Zora's Sapphire and tells him that she will treat it as an engagement ring for her future union with Link.
-->'''Link''': By the way, Navi, what's an engagement ring?
* DamselInDistress: Although it turns out that she went inside Lord Jabu-Jabu's body on purpose to escape her ArrangedMarriage, she ends up in danger for real when Barinade attacks. Link saves her life multiple times, eventually earning her affection.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Before allowing Link to run off and get the Zora's Sapphire, she demands that he carry her over. As Link points out, that means he has no hands with which to grab the stone.
* LuminescentBlush: Ruto blushes before giving Link the Zora's Sapphire, and, unbeknownst to him, arranging their marriage.
* RebelliousPrincess: As she later admits, Ruto fled Zora's Domain to escape the ArrangedMarriage her father wanted her to go through. She still manages to one-up King Zora after her rescue by handing the Zora's Sapphire off to Link before he could do anything about it.
* RescueRomance: Ruto falls in love with Link after he saves her from Barinade.
* RoyalBrat: Ruto is initially very haughty and elitist towards Link, even saying that he should be honored to carry her on his back.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: Ruto grows up to be a tall, shapely young woman.
* SingleTargetSexuality: She spurns her father's plans for her to marry a nameless court Zora, since she only has eyes for Link.
* UnwantedSpouse: Her father wanted her to marry a young Zora in his court. Ruto not only went inside Lord Jabu-Jabu just to avoid the ceremony, but handed the Zora's Sapphire off to Link to mark him as her betrothed.
* UpperClassTwit: Initially, Ruto seems astoundingly unconcerned by the dangers of Lord Jabu-Jabu's stomach and indifferent to the threat posed to Link's safety when he tries to help her. She does begin to grow out of this when Link slays Barinade, and becomes a selfless and determined princess as an adult.
* VerbalTic: Ruto sometimes ends her sentences with "Zora."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Impa]]
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Downplayed. Link first meets her searching for Princess Zelda in Hyrule Castle Town instead of running into her in Hyrule Castle.
* AdaptationalRelationshipOverhaul: Impa is a distant ally of Link in the game. When Link grows up, she eventually becomes a mentor and fencing instructor to him.
* AscendedExtra: Impa has a larger role as Zelda's confidant and Link's post-TimeSkip master.
* LightningBruiser: Impa is as much an acrobat as she is a warrior, splitting multiple Stalfos apart during Ganondorf's coup and expertly outmaneuvering Link in their sparring match.
* MasterSwordsman: With her kodachi in her hand, Impa can fight off any enemy short of Ganondorf himself. In fact, she instructs Link on swordsmanship while he stays in Kakariko Village.
* MentorArchetype: Impa serves as Zelda's emotional support and, later, Link's combat instructor.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Impa is very dignified and stoic most of the time, but has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it facial expression of exaggerated shock when Link calls her [[MaamShock "ma'am"]] while jumping out of Hyrule Castle.
* OrnamentalWeapon: Subverted. She keeps her kodachi sheathed behind her waist, as in the game, but later shows that she's perfectly prepared to pull it when Zelda is in danger.
* PassingTheTorch: After Link defeats Dark Link, Impa declares that she will stay in Kakariko Village and gives Link her position as Zelda's protector.
* ReverseGrip: Impa is shown holding her kodachi in this way, likely in homage to Sheik doing so in some pieces of promotional art.
* SecretKeeper: As the one who [[spoiler:created the "Sheik" personality with her magic]], Impa is the only one who knows the whereabouts of Princess Zelda. She almost tells Link the truth before Dark Link attacks, and then decides against letting Link know too early.
* SheathStrike: She's shown winning one of her sparring matches with Link by hitting him with her sheathed sword.
* UndyingLoyalty: Impa's first and foremost mission is to keep Princess Zelda safe from harm. This is made even more notable later on in the story, where it is revealed that the Royal Family of Hyrule turned against and exiled the Sheikah, and yet this does not make Impa's commitment to the girl waver a bit.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nabooru]]
----
* AdaptationalBadass: This version of Nabooru is a capable swordswoman capable of matching even Link.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: She join's Link's side after he breaks the jewel on her forehead, undoing the brainwashing spell Koume and Kotake put on her.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy:
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller:
* DualWielding: Nabooru wields two scimitars as she saves Link and Sheik from the Gerudo Fortress guards, although she throws one of them at Koume and Kotake.
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
* HeelFaceTurn:
* MasterSwordsman: This version of Nabooru is never turned into an Iron Knuckle, and thus forgoes the heavy axe for a superb sword. Link is shocked to find that even with the training he got from Impa, it's very difficult to get the drop on Nabooru in a fight.
* OneManArmy: To cover Link's escape with an injured Sheik, Nabooru fights off an entire gang of Gerudo thieves and shows up later without a scratch on her.
* SinisterScimitar: Played with. Nabooru's weapon of choice is a scimitar, and she is initially portrayed as an enemy to Link. However, it's revealed that she was actually brainwashed by Koume and Kotake, and after the spell is undone she continues using a scimitar after joining Link's side.
* YouShallNotPass:

[[folder:Link]]

A young apple farmer who lives with his ex-swordsman of an uncle, Link abruptly finds himself in the role of Zelda’s champion and Hyrule’s salvation.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Link starts off as woefully unprepared for adventure, only getting through the Ball & Chain Trooper's attack and Ghanti's raid through a combination of luck and quick thinking.
* AdaptationalWimp: This Link isn't a OneManArmy like his game counterpart, being heavily reliant on improvisation and the Master Sword to get through scrapes.
* BadassOnPaper: Link might be TheChosenOne, but he's far from the WorldsBestWarrior. Zelda lampshades that Link need not have any great accomplishments to his name before saving her; he just needs the kind of character that will convince the Master Sword to accept him.
-->''' Sahasrahla:''' I've been waiting for you. You beat the Armos with a combination of heroic courage and wisdom.
-->'''Ghanti:''' ''This'' guy's heroic?
* ChickMagnet: Link gets attention from both Princess Zelda and Ghanti.
* FarmBoy: This Link started off as a simple apple farmer, not knowing what his HeroicLineage entails or what role he'll have in Hyrule's salvation.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Link starts off with his fallen uncle's sword, and Zelda tasks him with finding the Master Sword, lampshading the dynamic by pointing out that only an ideal heroic spirit like Link's would be acknowledged by the Blade of Evil's Bane.
* HeroicLineage: Link is a descendant of the Hylian Knights, and his father [[spoiler:was a swordsman and aspiring royal guard who defied Agahnim]].
* ItsPersonalWithTheDragon: While Ganon is the one responsible for the Imprisoning War and the mastermind behind the abduction of the Seven Maidens, Link's archenemy is Agahnim, who not only enforces Ganon's orders by stabbed Link's uncle to death, [[spoiler:but banished his parents to the Dark World]]. While Link is the purest-hearted character besides Zelda herself and sees taking out Ganon as his duty, Agahnim stands out as the one character who's earned Link's hatred.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: At the end, Link finally gets his hands on the Triforce, and by extension the one chance he has at bringing his uncle [[spoiler:and parents]] back from the grave. Instead, with his loved one's approval, he chooses to use his wish to bring peace and prosperity to Hyrule.
* ThePoorlyChosenOne: Link is gobsmacked when Zelda singles him out as the one to claim the Master Sword, protesting that he'd never so much as held a sword of any kind before his mission to save Zelda.
* SmarterThanYouLook: It is easy to mistake Link for a callow, even dim, greenhorn of a youth. But he manages to take out the Ball & Chain Trooper with nothing but a pot and trick an Armos into drowning itself.
* TookALevelInBadass: He barely qualifies as an ActionSurvivor at first. Adventuring in Hyrule and the Dark World makes him a hero worthy of facing down Ganon.
* UnskilledButStrong: By his own admission, Link never held a sword before being summoned to save Zelda. The Master Sword, an eternal EmpathicWeapon that can restore any damage done to itself and counter dark magic, evens the gap between himself and the likes of Agahnim and Ganon.

[[folder:Princess Zelda]]
The noble young princess of Hyrule and the last of the Seven Maidens, Zelda becomes Link’s emotional balance and spiritual guide.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: Zelda actually manages to break out of her CrystalPrison of her own accord, something neither her original counterpart or any of the other maidens could do in the game.
* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: After Ganon's defeat, she returns home to be take the throne and be crowned as Queen Zelda.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Both Zelda and Link are young, idealistic, and noble Hylians who lost family to Agahnim.
* DamselInDistress: She is initially held captive and guarded by the Ball & Chain Trooper, as in the game. When Link does manage to get her out of the castle, Agahnim quickly finds her and undoes Link's success by kidnapping her again.
* DeathGlare: After freeing herself of her CrystalPrison to save Link, Zelda sends a harsh gaze at Agahnim, who actually steps back.
* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: She correctly predicted that the FakeUltimateHero Agahnim was a backstabbing snake and the unassuming Link is the only one able to draw the Master Sword.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Zelda is kind, considerate, and emphatic to everyone. She even one-ups Link in this regard, successfully calming him down from a FreakOut that caused the Master Sword to reject him.
* SilkHidingSteel: Zelda may seem delicate and dainty, but she shows nerves of steel even when captured or threatened by Agahnim.

[[quoteright:251:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ghanti.png]]
->''"I'll be your bodyguard. How about a 60/40 split?"''

A bandit made up for the [[Manga/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast2005 Akira Himekawa manga]], who ends up joining Link on his quest.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: She fills in the role of Trinexx in the manga, but ends up being [[ForcedTransformation unwillingly transfigured]] by Agahnim while [[spoiler:in the middle of berating herself for having feelings for Link while Zelda -- whom she sees as the far more likely to win his favour -- does, too. Even as she's being transformed, she's screaming at him the whole time that she didn't mean anything by it.]]
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Ghanti has darker skin than most of the cast, with both that and her being a scimitar-wielding female bandit hinting that she might be of Gerudo descent.
* BadassAdorable: With her boundless energy, optimism, big cute eyes and penchant for pulling [[PlayfulCatSmile cat smiles]] -- while still being an experienced bandit who's able to take skilled warriors like Link in a direct fight and fearlessly backtalk to both [[SinisterMinister Agahnim]] and [[BigBad Ganon]] -- it's safe to say Ghanti is this. [[spoiler:Even more so when she gets to deal the killing shot on Ganon himself with the Silver Arrow.]]
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Despite getting him involved in a botched robbery earlier, Ghanti helps Link escape from soldiers trying to arrest him and joins his quest because he insisted on helping her while she was wounded. Despite later declaring him her enemy on the basis of his Hylian Knight heritage -- and having an opportunity to kill him in the Desert of Mystery while he's comatose from scorpion venom -- it's implied that this is the reason that Ghanti first spares him, and later ends up growing feelings for him.
* BerserkButton: The Hylian Knights, who killed her real parents and left her to fend for herself in a bandit clan, ''really'' set Ghanti off, and [[MisplacedRetribution even tries to kill Link at one point when she finds he's descended from them]]. [[spoiler:As it turns out, it was the ''other'' way round; she's descended from the Knights, who were killed by bandits, and was then taken in by them. [[TomatoInTheMirror When she learns the truth from Zelda]], Ghanti loses this trait.]]
* BettyAndVeronica: Ghanti (the Veronica) -- a bandit who has dark hair and a rebellious, headstrong personality -- is jealous of Link's feelings for the blonde and more kind, meek Princess Zelda (the Betty). [[spoiler:It becomes a plot point later on; Agahnim finds her [[GreenEyedMonster quietly berating herself for thinking a lowly bandit like herself could compare to Zelda]], and uses her negative feelings to fuel Ghanti's unwilling transformation into Trinexx.]]
* BigEater: Link brings the injured Ghanti into the Kakariko Village Inn after his first battle with her; while there, she's seen scarfing down several meals in a row and leaving behind a ''huge'' stack of plates.
-->'''Innkeeper''': (''awed'') It seems that the only thing that's injured is her ''stomach!''
* CanonCharacterAllAlong: Agahnim [[OneWingedAngel forcibly transforms her into]] Trinexx, a boss from the game.
* CanonImmigrant: The author's note at the end said they hoped she'd become this, but it probably won't happen. That being said, a Thief Girl based on her ''does'' appear in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds'', who helps Link find the Sage Painting in Thieves' Town.
* CursedWithAwesome: Ghanti likes fighting in her Dark World beast form -- a wolf or fox, it's hard to tell due to the black-and-white pages -- and has learned to control her transformations at will.
* CleavageWindow: As seen right, Ghanti's top has a round hole in the middle that exposes her upper chest, as well as fitting around her neck to [[SexyBacklessOutfit reveal her shoulders and upper back]].
* CompositeCharacter: She is temporarily transformed into Trinexx, and her storyline of being a Light World bandit who is turned into a monster in the Dark World is taken from Blind the Thief. [[spoiler:Much like Zelda in the Ishinomori comic, she also takes Link's place as the one who finishes off Ganon with the Silver Arrow]].
* TheDogBitesBack: Clearly furious about being [[spoiler:unwillingly transfigured into Trinexx by Agahnim]], she [[spoiler:takes her revenge by proxy when she destroys Ganon with the Silver Arrow after Link wounds him]].
-->'''Ghanti''': Right. Let me show you my ''true'' value, [[spoiler:Pig-Face]]!
* EarnYourHappyEnding: After losing her birth parents and spending most of her life as a bandit, [[spoiler:she finally gets to kill Ganon and works with Link on his now-thriving apple farm]].
* FacialMarkings: She has a star-shaped mark under her left eye.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Twofold. Ghanti can be seen wearing two different armored cuffs around her wrists, and has a star-shaped marking just under her left eye.
* GenkiGirl: Aside from some notable {{tsundere}} bouts and when she tries to assassinate Link with a dagger when [[BerserkButton she finds out that he's descended from the Hylian Knights]], Ghanti has a very energetic and upbeat nature, and likes to joke around with and tease Link as she's travelling with him. As mentioned in her original concept sketches, "her presence lifts everyone's spirits".
* HeelFaceTurn: She's initially a bandit who meets Link through a robbery, before becoming his friend.
* InconsistentSpelling: Ghanti's name can also be spelled "Ganty" or "Ghanty".
* ItWasWithYouAllAlong: [[spoiler:Ghanti's earrings]] turn out to be the weapon they will need to defeat their enemy.
* JustLikeRobinHood: This is how she operates as a bandit; when Ghanti initially raids the carriage Link is on, she leaves him be because she only targets rich travellers. She does follow him to Kakariko Village after mistakenly thinking he stole her loot when the raid goes wrong, but then helps him escape from the soldiers there after he [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe insists on helping her when she's wounded]], later joining him on his quest.
* KillTheParentRaiseTheChild: Towards the end of the story, [[spoiler:Zelda reveals to Ghanti that this is how she ended up being raised by the thieves who took her in. They killed Ghanti's parents in a robbery, who were members of the Hylian Knights, and then lied to her about her origins; claiming that the Knights themselves were responsible for the deed. Zelda also reveals that Ghanti is a descendant of the Hylian Knights herself, and that [[ItWasWithYouAllAlong her earrings are the heads of the Silver Arrows]]]].
* LoveRedeems: Ghanti starts off as a self-serving bandit who vows to one day kill Link when she finds out he's a descendant of the Hylian Knights. Even so, she not only [[BigDamnHeroes rescues a scorpion-poisoned Link from Agahnim]] despite her [[WhatYouAreInTheDark having all the time in the world to finish him off]], but becomes his full-fledged companion in the Dark World and goes on to harbor a not-so subtle crush on him.
* LoveTriangle: Ghanti cites this as the reason for her reluctance to help Link rescue Zelda later on. She has a crush on Link but recognizes that he has feelings for Zelda, and quietly berates herself for thinking that "a lowly bandit" could compare to the princess. [[spoiler:Unfortunately for Ghanti, Agahnim finds her and powers her UnwillingTransformation into Trinexx using her feelings of anger and jealousy.]]
* MisplacedRetribution: When she finds out from Sahasrahla that Link is descended from the Hylian Knights after they obtain the Pendant Of Courage, she attacks and tries to kill him on the basis that they killed her parents, despite Link himself having nothing to do with it. [[spoiler:What's more, it turns out that her own parents were really members of the Knights themselves; [[KillTheParentRaiseTheChild they were murdered by the Bandits that took Ghanti in as a child]], and they lied to her about her true origins.]]
* MsFanservice: Ghanti is a pretty young woman with a CleavageWindow in her SexyBacklessOutfit.
* OneWingedAngel: Agahnim forcibly transforms her into Trinexx, which Link doesn't find out until after he's mortally wounded her. Thankfully, [[ChekhovsGun she's saved from death by the other half of the healing apple]].
* PiggybackCute: The way to the Eastern Palace has Ghanti doing this, with Link carrying her up a mountainside on his back when she says she's tired. Link is visibly annoyed by the request -- given that he's flagging himself -- but still goes ahead with it anyway.
-->'''Ghanti:''' (''teasingly'') Aww, thanks! [[HypocriticalHumor I bet people are always taking advantage of your kind nature~!]]
-->'''Link:''' (''grumbling'') [[LampshadeHanging Don't I know it...]]
* RetCanon: A thief girl who looks similar to her appears in ''A Link Between Worlds''.
* SinisterScimitar: Her weapon of choice, as well as a dagger and [[BowAndSwordInAccord a longbow]].
* TomatoInTheMirror: She hates Hylian Knights due the bandits she was raised by telling her that her parents were killed by them. [[spoiler:It turns out that it's the other way around: her parents were Hylian Knights who were killed by bandits, who then abducted her and raised her as a thief.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: She starts out as a minor antagonist, but begrudgingly finds herself developing feelings for Link.
-->'''Ghanti:''' Don't forget, I'm still out for revenge on my enemy! I'm waiting until we get the Triforce, is all. We just happen to share a common goal... for now!
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: In the Dark World, Ghanti has learned to control her transformations and can turn into a canine beast -- [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/zelda_gamepedia_en/images/9/9c/Ghantifox.png likely a fox,]] but it's tricky to tell due to the black-and-white drawings -- at will to fight and explore more easily. Unlike most who transform in the Dark World, she openly enjoys it.
-->'''Ghanti:''' I only turn into an animal when I fight. I guess that's when I'm greediest... but I kind of like this form~!
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Despite having previously tried to kill him and declaring him her enemy for [[MisplacedRetribution having been descended from the Hylian Knights]], Ghanti rescues Link in the Desert Of Mystery when Agahnim has him dead to rights after being poisoned by a deadly scorpion; throwing a sword at the evil wizard to send him away. Link passes out, and Ghanti has the perfect chance to finish him off there and then, but instead she bandages up his wound and leaves him the Healing Apple he gave her earlier.
* YouKilledMyFather: Ghanti declares Link her enemy because he's the last of the Hylian knights, whom she has been raised to believe killed her parents. She's, therefore, surprised to find that [[spoiler:her guardian lied to her and she herself is, in fact, also descended from the Hylian knights]].

[[folder:Agahnim]]
An ambitious scholar and aide to the King of Hyrule, Agahnim schemes to use the power loaned to him by Ganon to release the Demon King from his prison.
----
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: The original Agahnim had the appearance of a rather unsightly old man, with beady eyes, a mottled and discolored face, and sharp fingernails. Here, while retaining the nails, close-ups of his face beneath his veil show him as a younger man with more conventionally handsome features.
* AdaptationalJobChange: By means of his AdaptationalBackstoryChange. [[spoiler:Instead of sharing his role as a bandit king with the original Ganondorf, this Agahnim was an aspiring wizard-in-training]].
* AdaptationalWimp: Although Agahnim is hardly weak, being able to kill and usurp the King of Hyrule and fatally stab Link's uncle, he lacks his ability to self-duplicate and gets felled by a single redirected magic blast instead of six. In the final battle, he doesn't even try fighting Link and flees to Ganon to beg for more power.
* ArchEnemy: Between stabbing Link's uncle to death, [[spoiler:sending his parents to the Dark World]], abducting Zelda, and turning Ghanti into Trinexx, Agahnim earns a bigger share of the Hero of Hyrule's hatred than even Ganon.
* DecompositeCharacter: In this adaptation, [[spoiler:Agahnim is Ganon's pawn instead of his avatar. Ganon's AdaptationalVillainy coincides with Agahnim's past wish to use extreme means to bring about prosperity and peace for his people, harkening back to the original Ganondorf]].
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Considering what the original records of Ganon said about the Demon King, [[spoiler:Agahnim evidently dismissed or ignored the fact that a man who didn't think twice about slaughtering his entire bandit horde to keep the Triforce to himself wouldn't think twice about killing ''him'' for outliving his usefulness]].
* DirtyCoward: Agahnim isn't willing to attack anyone he thinks has a chance of fighting back, as shown by his ambushing Link's uncle in the sewer with a dagger. At the end, he resorts to outright fleeing from Zelda's DeathGlare after she breaks free of her CrystalPrison and gives Link another chance to use the Master Sword against him.
* {{Intangibility}}: Agahnim has the ability to become intangible, allowing even the Master Sword to pass harmlessly through his body while allowing him to attack with impunity. Link manages to counter this by repelling one of Agahnim's own magic blasts back at him.
* ItGetsEasier: In a flashback, Agahnim seems a touch regretful when confronted by Link's parents, reasoning that he has to do what he does for the sake of Hyrule. In the present, he gleefully plays the royal court like a fiddle, calls Link's father "foolish" for defying him, and gloats about how he finally has an opportunity to sacrifice Zelda.
* IveComeTooFar: In the past, Agahnim reasoned that he needed to make a deal with Ganon to use the Triforce for the sake of Hyrule. In the present, he's become the single biggest threat to Hyrule short of Ganon himself by killing the King, sacrificing the maidens, and falsely accusing Link. Whether or not he ever really had good intentions, it's clear that he has nothing to live for but hoping his DealWithTheDevil will pay off.
-->'''Agahnim:''' I did everything you asked! You promised to share the power of the Triforce with me! If not...th-then why did I serve you?
* TheHeavy: As in the original game, Agahnim is the foremost member of the Tribe of Evil that Link must defeat, and is indispensable to Ganon's plan to free himself by having the maidens sent to the Dark World.
* MinoredInAsskicking: Agahnim was trained as a wizard and scholar in his youth, but he's at least able to use a dagger to lethal effect when pressed.
* TheyLookJustLikeEveryoneElse: Beneath of the veil of Hyrule's most infamous FakeUltimateHero and betrayer is a nondescript young Hylian.
* VillainousBreakdown: Agahnim is struck with disbelief by Link surviving his first foray in the Dark World and getting even stronger from the time he defeated him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ganon]]
Once a member of a band of thieves who sought the Triforce, Ganondorf became the feared demon lord Ganon after killing his fellows to take the golden power for himself.
----
* BadBoss: Ganon rewards Agahnim for his lifetime of service by firing a laser straight through his heart. Even in the past, he was willing to personally slaughter every single one of his fellow bandits just so he wouldn't have to share the Triforce.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: He retains his now-retconned game counterpart's backstory of killing his fellow bandits to get his hands on the Triforce. In the present, he backstabs and kills Agahnim the second he's outlived his usefulness.
* DemotedToExtra: On account of [[spoiler:Agahnim being an entirely separate character]], Ganon has a far less personal conflict with the heroes and is simply the TrueFinalBoss.
* DevilsPitchfork: He wields a trident when he begins his first fight with Link, although the hero quickly disarms him.
* EvilLaugh: According to Sahasrahla, he went straight LaughingMad after becoming Ganon.
-->'''Sahasrahla:''' When he touched the Triforce, the symbol's spirit whispered...'thy wish is my wish.' He laughed so loud that his voice reached Hyrule across time and space.
* EyeBeam: A variation. He can fire a laser from between his eyes.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: The Triforce is normally supposed to grant the wishes of anyone who finds it, even if they are evil people with evil desires. However, after Ganon's death, the Triforce actually thanks the heroes for freeing it from Ganon.
* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: The feared pig-demon Ganon was once a mortal who stumbled upon the Sacred Realm by chance, killing all of his followers to get his hands on the Triforce and continue his plan to conquer Hyrule centuries after his initial defeat.
* TheSociopath: Ganon only cares about Ganon, period. Having slaughtered his followers to keep the Triforce all for himself, he decides he isn't content with even this and plans to free himself from the seal keeping him in the Dark World so he can conquer Hyrule, too. To this end, he recruits and manipulates Agahnim into kidnapping and sacrificing the maidens to undo the seal, fully intent on turning on Agahnim himself the second the wizard outlives his usefulness.
* ThirdEye: His LivingShadow form has an eye in his forehead, although it disappears when he returns to normal.
* TrueFinalBoss: Ganon is the ultimate enemy Link, Zelda, and Ghanti have to contend with after Agahnim's demise.
* WasOnceAMan: Ganondorf was a mortal who found the Triforce, turning him into the Demon King Ganon.

----
* CallToAgriculture: He is a retired swordsman who took to growing an apple orchard while raising his nephew Link.
* DeathByAdaptation: Unlike in the game, he is not brought back to life in the end.
* DiesDifferentlyInTheAdaptation: In the original game, there's no indication that he was felled by anything but the possessed soldiers in the room adjacent to the one Link finds him in. Here, he is killed by Agahnim.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: He reacts to his imminent doom with grace, handing off his sword and shield to Link and giving him his last request to save Zelda.
* ManlyFacialHair: He is a tough, determined swordsman with a heavy mustache. Flashbacks, on the other hand, show him clean-shaven.
* {{Nephewism}}: After losing his brother and sister-in-law to Agahnim, he escaped with an infant Link and raised him in an apple orchard.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: While he's hardly weak, he did not have the same prestige as his brother, he's not a chosen wielder of the Master Sword like Link, and he is absolutely no match for the magically empowered Agahnim.
* RetiredBadass: While he trained to be a swordsman, he hung up his blade to raise Link.

Link's long-last parents, presumed dead, who had a history with Agahnim.
----
* CanonForeigner: They do not appear in the original game.
* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: As far as Link's father knew, Agahnim wanted to be a wizard to make Hyrule a better place. He did not count on Agahnim making a deal with Ganon to reshape Hyrule in his image.
* KilledOffscreen: Although it turns out that [[spoiler:they were banished to the Dark World by Agahnim and Link finds out they lived in an old abbey for a time, their appearance as ghosts at the very end proves beyond a doubt that whatever they faced in the Dark World was too much for them]].
